Cisco Switching/Routing ::1002 Layer 3 Ether-channel Vs Two Separate Links

May 19, 2013

We were going to create a 2 port, layer 3 etherchannel between a 1002 router and a 3750X layer 3 core switch. We wanted to create bunled link between them but, now we are going to be putting a Riverbed device between the router and core switch. Because of this, would it be best to abandon the idea of creating a layer 3 etherchannel and just have 2 links from the router and core switch and have traffic load balance between the 2 links?The Riverbed will have 2 connections into it from the Core switch and 2 connections into it from the 1002 router. I was hoping to keep the layer 3 etherchannel but, do you think it would be best to create 2, /29 nets and have the router/Riverbed and Core Switch/Riverbed load balance.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 891W 10Gbs Multi-Chassis Ether Channel

Mar 15, 2011

I have an 891W that I initially configured using CCP Express (2.5).  So it has a WAN IP set, and through CCP Express I had enabled via the checkboxes the various default settings for security.  This includes zone-based firewall.  I then added a number of NAT entries in the setup wizard.

What never occured to me at the time was that I should have added entries that allow for remote access.  So it seems I've locked myself out of accessing the router via the WAN interface even though I know it's IP.  I'm sure it's just a matter of adding port exceptions for SSH and/or whatever port(s) CCP uses.

So I"m wondering what the proces woudl be.  In the IOS while showing the running config., I see pages and pages of class-map stuff which at present I don't know enough about to risk editing anything directly.  But maybe I don't have to?  What would be the best way to, for example, enable SSH access through the firewall?  I already have transport input ssh set on the interface itself so I believe it's ready to allow the connection, just that I can't get to it via WAN int. so I assume it's the firewall.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960G Configuring Ether-channel On Stack-wise Stack

Sep 24, 2012

A site that i am responsible for has the following equipment installed:

2 x 3750G Switches configured as a stack using Stackwise - Collapsed Core/Distribution Layer
5 x 2960G Switches as Access Layer switches

WAN connections into the Core/Distribution Layer are all Gigabit Ethernet over Fibre.This is a dedicated CCTV Network with 50 Cameras all streaming video into the Core (decoders connected to access switches)Each 2960G has 2 links to the Core/Distribution 3750G Switches, 1 to each switch - Gigabit.I'm running rapid-pvst on all switches, so spanning tree is blocking one of the ports and effectively halving the 2 gig bandwidth. Next year our customer is going to add in a further 50 - 60 cameras.After monitoring the current loading on the ports in use, we have suggested to the customer that the 2 connections to each should be Ether-channeled together. [code]

First interface takes commands no problem, keep getting the message that etherchannel cannot be configured across different switches in a stack when i try to put the second interface commands on.

Cisco :: 6500 Ether-channel On Two Different WS-X6416-GBIC Line Cards

I always thought it was line cards of different type, i.e. 6400 with a 6700 but these two line cards are exactly the same model with the same code level.

1) Are the error messages below from this incompatibility between line cards and etherchannel creation?
2) How to fix if the answer to #1 is yes?
3) What line cards work with which for etherchannel creation?

Cisco Application :: CSS 11503 Ether-channel Configuration For Redundant Server Link

Jun 18, 2011

I have already raised this discussion on "LAN, Switching and Routing" group. But I guess this is the right group for my queries. So I am sending my queries in this group again.

We are using CSS 11503 with one 16FE line card. We have connected 3 servers with redundant link. So FE1-2 in Server1, FE 3-4 in Server2 and FE5-6 in Server3. Our system team has configured APA in their servers as they are using HP-Ux.

1) Do we need to do any configuration at line card.

2) Do we need to do ether-channel at loadbalancer end. if yes, can you share me any cisco doc on how to do it.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Changing 4510-SUP-6E Redundant Mode To Share-Backplane Mode

Mar 12, 2013

I received the following info from Cisco's TAC and wanted to inquire further before I start reconfiguring the switch:

In a redundant Sup-6E setup, the following configuration is supported :

- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup

If you invoke shared backplane mode, the following configuration can also be supported:

- 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 TenGig uplink(blocking) on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup

Here's the command and information about the "shared-backplane" mode :- [URL]

Currently, we have 2  SUP 6-Es(Module 5 - Active and Module 6 - Stand-by) setup in a redundent mode. I am planning on changing the redundent mode to the shared backplane mode so I can use 2 TenGig converters to uplink 2 access-switches. We purchased 2 TenGig converters and here is how I am planning on using them:

1- One will be used  to uplink to two 3750 switches(stacked)
2- One will be used to uplink to a 2960 using a Gig SFP

My questions are:

1- Do I have to install the 2 TenGig converters(4-Gig Uplinks) in the same Module? Or can I use one one in module 5 and the second one in module 6?
2- Will changing the redundant mode to the shared backplane mode require rebooting the switch or disrupt the funtionality of the other linecards?

Cisco Wireless :: AP541N 802.11b/g/n Mode Channel Overlap

Apr 25, 2011

We have 3 AP541N units deployed in a doctors office.  All of them are set to 802.11b/g/n mode.  2 of these units are used to provide non-secured internet access to patients and are using channel 7.  The other AP is for our private network secured using WPA2/AES operating on channel 1.  There are several other access points in our proximity using channel 6 and I'm trying to minimize interference.When selecting wireless mode 802.11 b/g/n I have only channels 1-7 to choose from.  What I really want to do is change our public wlan to use channel 11 to avoid the other business's AP which are using channel 6.

Should I be using a different mode altogether?  In your expereince which mode will provide the best transmission rates and range?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 6500 BUS EoBC Channel

May 5, 2013

"How to display the EOBC error counters in the Catalyst 6500 series switches and a definition of the EOBC interface" document here on support forum stays that The Ethernet Out of Band Channel (EOBC) is a  half duplex channel that services many functions, which include the  Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and the packets that are  destined for the switch.

Previously i were thinking that EoBC used only for SCP  and SLP protocol. In addition i found other article (but not on cisco site, heh) where stays that The Results bus is a       control plane, while the C (EoBC) bus is more of an       "admin plane", thus you will never see data       packets (such as CDP, SNMP, etc.) going over the R or C bus.

So there is a big contradiction between those two statements. How to prove one of those and if first one right, what meaned under the packets that are  destined for the switch in it? SCP and SLP or other traffic as well?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 Trunk To Port Channel

I have 2 Cisco 6509 switches linked together via single Fibre as a trunk.I want to change this to a port channel where I will add another 3 fibre ports to the port channel but what order do I do this to minimise any disruption.

1-Configure PortChannel and add the 3 new ports, this will bring up the Port Channel but what effect will this have on traffic currently going over the single Trunk link? Will spanning tree go mad, how will switches react?

2-Convert existing Trunk link to Portchannel then add in new ports to PortChannel, I guess in doing this there will be a small hit on traffic as it changes to a port channel.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6506E SUP2T QOS Channel Consistency

May 21, 2012

I have a catalyst 6506E (WS-C6506-E) with a SUP2T supervisor (VS-S2T-10G) card and a 10G interface card (WS-X6816-10G-2T) + DFC4.I have configured an etherchannel to another switch with the 2 10Giga ports of the SUP2T card and 2 10giga ports of the interface card.I only use the 10Giga ports of the SUP2T card so the cards have the same QOS transmit capabilities.But they do not have the same receive capabilities.

So when I configure QOS (with the new commands on SUP2T) on my 4 ports within the Etherchannel, 2 ports move down because of the inconsistency.
Till this point, no surprise.

The problem is that the command "no platform qos channel consistency" replacing the "no mls qos channel-consistency" does not exist.I run the last IOS 12.2(50)SY1 IPSERVICESK9.

And I cannot have QOS on my Etherchannel on the 2 cards.Or I have to use 4 ports of my interface card but in case of failure of this card, I loose the whole etherchannel.I there a way to avoid the consistency check ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Min-Link Configuration On 3750-X Port-channel

Feb 27, 2013

I am building a new network and intended on using the min-link feature on my port-channels between a 3750-X series switch and Nexus 4k.

However reading further into this it seems this feature is only supported on higher end models. I cannot find any reference to the min-links feature in the 3750-X configuration guide. Is this an available feature?

The 3750-X model is WS-C3750X-24T-L running IOS 12.2(55)SE3 IP Services

My thoughts is that the is only an LACP supported feature so I may not see the command until I have entered an LACP specific command on the port-channel but unfortunately I do not have a 3750X to verify this on at present.
