Cisco Switching/Routing ::1002 Layer 3 Ether-channel Vs Two Separate Links

May 19, 2013

We were going to create a 2 port, layer 3 etherchannel between a 1002 router and a 3750X layer 3 core switch. We wanted to create bunled link between them but, now we are going to be putting a Riverbed device between the router and core switch. Because of this, would it be best to abandon the idea of creating a layer 3 etherchannel and just have 2 links from the router and core switch and have traffic load balance between the 2 links?The Riverbed will have 2 connections into it from the Core switch and 2 connections into it from the 1002 router. I was hoping to keep the layer 3 etherchannel but, do you think it would be best to create 2, /29 nets and have the router/Riverbed and Core Switch/Riverbed load balance.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Cross-stack Ether Channel 20Gb And STP

i want to realize a 20gb ring stp with 6  3750x stacked by 2. I want to install 2 3750x stacked configured in hsrp mode with other 2 3750 stacked. These 2 different stack are interconnected by a cross-stack ether channel 20Gb  fiber. On the other side of the room i want to create a new stack with 2 3750x with cross-stack ether channel 20gb connected with the previous 2 stacks. So, in total 3 different cross-stack ether channel 20Gb stacks interconnected creating a ring stp of 20 Gb.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 891W 10Gbs Multi-Chassis Ether Channel

Mar 15, 2011

I have an 891W that I initially configured using CCP Express (2.5).  So it has a WAN IP set, and through CCP Express I had enabled via the checkboxes the various default settings for security.  This includes zone-based firewall.  I then added a number of NAT entries in the setup wizard.

What never occured to me at the time was that I should have added entries that allow for remote access.  So it seems I've locked myself out of accessing the router via the WAN interface even though I know it's IP.  I'm sure it's just a matter of adding port exceptions for SSH and/or whatever port(s) CCP uses.

So I"m wondering what the proces woudl be.  In the IOS while showing the running config., I see pages and pages of class-map stuff which at present I don't know enough about to risk editing anything directly.  But maybe I don't have to?  What would be the best way to, for example, enable SSH access through the firewall?  I already have transport input ssh set on the interface itself so I believe it's ready to allow the connection, just that I can't get to it via WAN int. so I assume it's the firewall.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960G Configuring Ether-channel On Stack-wise Stack

Sep 24, 2012

A site that i am responsible for has the following equipment installed:

2 x 3750G Switches configured as a stack using Stackwise - Collapsed Core/Distribution Layer
5 x 2960G Switches as Access Layer switches

WAN connections into the Core/Distribution Layer are all Gigabit Ethernet over Fibre.This is a dedicated CCTV Network with 50 Cameras all streaming video into the Core (decoders connected to access switches)Each 2960G has 2 links to the Core/Distribution 3750G Switches, 1 to each switch - Gigabit.I'm running rapid-pvst on all switches, so spanning tree is blocking one of the ports and effectively halving the 2 gig bandwidth. Next year our customer is going to add in a further 50 - 60 cameras.After monitoring the current loading on the ports in use, we have suggested to the customer that the 2 connections to each should be Ether-channeled together. [code]

First interface takes commands no problem, keep getting the message that etherchannel cannot be configured across different switches in a stack when i try to put the second interface commands on.

1) Is it best to configure a separate Vpc VLAN i.e 1010

2) Is it best to configure a vrf context keep-alive

3) just have the management address as the peer ip's.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509E Port-channel Flapping When Two More Links Are Added?

Sep 11, 2012

I have two Core 6509E SUP2T configued as VSS and has two 48 ports fiber blades. I have two 3750s, I have two gig on each 3750 port-channle to po1 and connected to both the core, one link to each core.Now, I was asked ot add two more links on each 3750 switch to make it a total of 4 gigs on each 3750s (all 4 gig ports/uplinks will be in used an dtwo links to core one an dtwo links to core 2).when i added two additional links on 3750s and bundled them to po1, I created another port channel on core and bundeled the additional two gigs on each core to accomodate for the two additional links (ports on core switches are not consequtives).

adding these two additional ports makes the 3750 switches flap between managemnet vlan and po1.now, i am not sure if I must have added the two additional links on the core to teh current port-channel or core!? I have created another port-channel on core to accomodate for this currently!?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509-E Switches Interconnected On Layer 3 Port Channel

Oct 3, 2012

We are currently designing  Layer 3 to the edge EIGRP solution  for our customers. The network is a hybrid of collapsed  core (Core to access) as well as a three layer design (Core/Distro/Access) for connectivity to the Data Centre, Internet, Wireless Blocks etc.The  core of the network contains two 6509-E switches interconnected on a  Layer 3 Port channel (no VSS). Access Layer switches (3750-X series running Stackwiseplus protocol)  connect to the core switches over p2p routed links and Distribution layer switches (3750X stackwiseplus) provide connectivity to the  Data centre, Internet, wireless blocks etc.

The access and distribution switch stacks(Cisco 3750-X) are set up with two or three member switches with uplinks multihomed to the primary and secondary core switch with each uplink included in EIGRP. In each of the stacks, one of the switches controls the operation of the stack, which will be  the stack master.As the Cisco Stackwise architecture is not SSO-capable but NSF aware, all Layer 3 fuctions must be re-established during a master switch outage. To minimize control plane impact and improve Layer3 convergence, uplinks should be diverse and originate from the member switches instead of the Master switches in the respective stack. This is as per Cisco recommended design solution.The above solution can be setup if there are more than two switches in the stack. i.e. uplinks are configured on the backup member switch modules.

1.But what about stack with two switches..Which switch should be set up as the Master for a two member stack with uplinks to the core primary and secondary from each switch(Master and Backup)

2. For Layer 3 routing, does the routing takes precedene over switch failures? Say for eg. In a two member stack, the master switch with uplink to primary fails, does EIGRP provide a fast convergence to route traffic via backup secondary and does not wait for the control plane on the switch stack to converge? All the access to core links will be set up for ECMP.

2) How to fix if the answer to #1 is yes?
3) What line cards work with which for etherchannel creation?

Cisco Application :: CSS 11503 Ether-channel Configuration For Redundant Server Link

Jun 18, 2011

I have already raised this discussion on "LAN, Switching and Routing" group. But I guess this is the right group for my queries. So I am sending my queries in this group again.

We are using CSS 11503 with one 16FE line card. We have connected 3 servers with redundant link. So FE1-2 in Server1, FE 3-4 in Server2 and FE5-6 in Server3. Our system team has configured APA in their servers as they are using HP-Ux.

1) Do we need to do any configuration at line card.

2) Do we need to do ether-channel at loadbalancer end. if yes, can you share me any cisco doc on how to do it.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: L2 Vs L3 Between 1002 And 3750X Core?

Feb 4, 2013

we are replacing network equipment at one of our sites. The network will have 12, 3750X switches(6 stacks) - one stack will be the core. A 1002 will be the WAN router to the Main campus. The 1002 will connect to the core via 2 ethernet cables. I'm debating whether to use L3 or L2 between the router and Core. I've heard that routing is more efficient if L3 is used and also I will be able to create an L3 etherchannel  between the 1002 and Core switch. See the attached doc.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 / MST Pre-standard And Links Down

Sep 3, 2012

Checking the logs we have seen the following messages:

%SPANTREE-3-PRESTD_NEIGH: pre-standard MST interaction not configured (Port-channel3). Please, configure: 'spanning-tree mst pre-standard' on ports connected to MST pre-standard switches.
%LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1, changed state to down
%LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet2/0/1, changed state to down
%LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Port-channel3, changed state to down
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Port-channel3, changed state to down
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1, changed state to down
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet2/0/1, changed state to down

When this happened, the interface that was actually blocked by STP didn't come to forwarding state, and as a result this switch became isolated.This switch is connected to a switch that runs standard MST, and to some switches that run PVST but have bpdufilter enabled as we don't want them to participate on the STP. It is a 3750 switch with software version 12.2(55)SE5.

 As far as I knew, when a MST pre-standard BPDU was received, the interface was able to receive more pre-standard BPDUs, but I didn't know it would turn the link down. Why the links went down, and if there is any way we can configure those links to accept only MST standard BPDUs.

I would also like to know if there is any chance a switch running PVST can send a MST pre-standard BPDU if it has a software version 12.2(25)SEE3.
