Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASR 1002 - 2 Ports To Emulate At L2 Switched Port
Jun 12, 2012
I know that the ASR 1002 has 4 integrated ports but the problem that I am having is that I need two of those ports to emulate a L2 switched port. Is that doable?
If not than I need to purchase the following module below. Is that price really true?

The 2960s-48lpd-l comes with 2 SFP+ ports and is capable of supporting either SFP or SFP+ modules.
My question is:- if I have a SFP+ module in port 1, can I have a SFP in port 2? or do they both have to be either SFP+ or SFP?

I've created some port forwards from my public IP (Dialer0) to our private LAN but only the 25565 port forward works. I've even added an any statement to the Nat source list Homenet_NAT. Full config attached. My Cisco router is an 877W. [Code]

I've several production Catalyst switches that are listening on the same IPv4 and IPv6 ports. The problem is I don't want the switches listening on the IPv6 ports.[code] How to shut down these listening ports?I also have a few production switches listening on UDP/10000 and I cannot determine why this port is listening. [code] I've seen where UDP/10000 is Network Data Management Protocol and is related to Storage networks ###, but I've also seen where UDP/10000 is the default port for IPSEC data.I don't believe UDP/10000 is related to either NDMP or IPSEC data, though I could be very wrong.

I need to tear down an existing port-channel on a 3750X running c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-1.SE3.bin. This port channel is currently down down. It has three ports in it that will be added one each to three existing port-channels, I am assuming as long as the "channel-group" command is exactly the same as it is on the three existing port-channels I should be ok just adding the new port. One point to note is that the three existing port-channels all have three ports so this will be adding the fourth port to each port-channel. I know after reading that it is a best practice for load balancing to use either 2, 4, or 8 ports for a port-channel. Also what is the command to see all ports that are in a port channel?

I want to configure layer 2 switched netflow on my cat 6509 running vss,
I have configured the 2 commands below
ip flow ingress layer2-switched vlan 1,2,3
ip flow export layer2-switched vlan 1,2,3
However, if I look in the config the export bit isnt there after?
It is running a PFC
VS-F6K-PFC3C
Should layer 2 switched netflow work in this chassis ? it says on the Cisco site that it works on the below
"The command is supported on Supervisor Engine 720 in PFC3B and PFC3BXL mode only and on Supervisor Engine 2 with a PFC2"

we are replacing network equipment at one of our sites. The network will have 12, 3750X switches(6 stacks) - one stack will be the core. A 1002 will be the WAN router to the Main campus. The 1002 will connect to the core via 2 ethernet cables. I'm debating whether to use L3 or L2 between the router and Core. I've heard that routing is more efficient if L3 is used and also I will be able to create an L3 etherchannel between the 1002 and Core switch. See the attached doc.

Can you configure a Cisco 1941 to use an 8 port EHWic module and the 2 onboard GE ports in a single LAN?
I've discovered you can't have the on GE ports associated with a VLan, and I'm when I've previously researched for a solution, bridging was mentioned but I cannot seem to get it to work (or completely understand it)The reason I would like to use all 10 ports on for the LAN is becuase I have 10 devices I need to connect to the 1941?

We are having Cisco router 1002 ASR and 2841 switch. Some times perticular VLAN user will not be able to access the network but from the same switch others VLAN users can able to access. We were getting ARP entries in router but we cannot ping the IP's. Even we clear the ARP entries. Once we restart the switch users can access the network. We have changed vlan ports, uplink too. but problem not solved. and we observed CPU utilization will be going 70-80% some times and at same time switch hangs.

Can any share some useful links on how this works and how to configure it? Do you still need to configure FHRP or does configuring redundancy take care of active/standby relationship between the ASR's?

I was asked to configure a new ASR 1002 today and after successfully puttintg the config on the router (via TFTP) the router will no longer communicate with anything. There is nothing in the config to cause this (it was actually pulled off a working production ASR 1002) and I am unable to ping a local loop back IP while consoled into the router?? I removed the config, reloaded the router and configured a new loop back - same issue cannot ping the loop back or anything else connected to this router.

We were going to create a 2 port, layer 3 etherchannel between a 1002 router and a 3750X layer 3 core switch. We wanted to create bunled link between them but, now we are going to be putting a Riverbed device between the router and core switch. Because of this, would it be best to abandon the idea of creating a layer 3 etherchannel and just have 2 links from the router and core switch and have traffic load balance between the 2 links? The Riverbed will have 2 connections into it from the Core switch and 2 connections into it from the 1002 router. I was hoping to keep the layer 3 etherchannel but, do you think it would be best to create 2, /29 nets and have the router/Riverbed and Core Switch/Riverbed load balance.

I have 2 sub net directly connected to a ASR 1002. This is the configuration
interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0
ip address 193.145.14.114 255.255.255.252
negotiation auto
[Code] ....
The interface gi0/0/0 is connected directly to 193.147.14.113/30 in another router. And the Gi0/1/1 is connected to my internal infra structure. From my router I can ping 193.145.14.113 . So. I configure my PC with default-gateway 193.147.107.3 (ASR).
From my PC
I can ping 193.147.107.3 (gi 0/1/1)
I can ping 193.145.14.114 (gi 0/0/0)
But I can not ping 193.145.14.113 (the other point connected to gi0/0/0)
Why???? It is a IP inside of a sub net directly connected to the ASR. Why the ASR is not doing routing? ip routing is enable.

I am setting up a lab network to emulate our production network and am using a single 2851 to emulate both my MPLS provider (only running BGP, not actually running MPLS) and our ISP that we use for our DMVPN secondary network.
Because I am using one router to function as both service providers I am running VRF's to keep the routing tables separated. So far basic connectivity works fine, I can ping from the PE 'MPLS' VRF to the data center CE interface and the ISP side is working as well.
Pinging across the ISP VRF
lab-isp#ping vrf TW 66.193.134.46Type escape sequence to abort.Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP [code]...
BGP is up from both the data center MPLS CE and the data center internet router. BGP on the data center internet router:
lab-dc1-inet#sh ip bgp summ
BGP router identifier 66.193.134.46, local AS number 33415
BGP table version is 4, main routing table version 4
[code]...
BGP on the data center MPLS CE
lab-dc1-1#sh ip bgp summ
BGP router identifier 10.152.1.250, local AS number 65000
BGP table version is 2, main routing table version 2
[code]....
This is my first attempt at using VRF's in this fashion and could have easily missed something or used a config that is not necessary.
Here is the configuration on the MPLS PE/Internet router.
ip vrf CL
rd 1:1
route-target export 1:1
route-target import 1:1
[code]....

Im just wondering if it would be possible to emulate an adsl connection on a server. What i mean by this is if we were testing a vpn or something they would have to connect through this box on the network and act as if it were a ppoe connection. Has any ever done anything of a similar nature? Is it possible at all?

On the supervisor card of a cisco 6500 series, according to the following link, [URL] it only has 2 uplink ports on the card. Would I be correct in assuming that I only have those to ports that I can configure IP addresses on?
The cisco that is being devlivere is coming with a 48 port switch and 24 port fibre switch. Could I change any of those ports into a router port and configure IP addresses on those?
The supervisor card is a ws-sup-720-3b the 48 port switch is a ws-x6748-ge-tx the 24 port fibre switch is ws-x6724-sfp

I'm trying to enable port security on several 4507R's. When I try to configure a range of ports the switch will randomly put 1 or 2 in err-disable. It's different every time I apply the config to the same group of ports. However if I do them one at a time it seems to work. But I really don't want to configure 6 fully populated switches one port at a time. We also have a lot of 3750's and they gave me no problem using a port range. [code]

We just installed a hosted VOIP system using Cisco 7900 series IP phones. We are having a strange issue with a few computers where they pull DHCP information from our VOIP provider's DHCP server on the Internet and not our LAN DHCP server.
The switchports areconfigured as: switchport mode access
My rationale behind this is that the phones would use CDP to get their VLAN info from the providers Cisco router and the PCs would just ride on the default VLAN. But this is not the case. Computers randomly keep getting DHCP info from the provider's router. Do I have to use voice vlan x and make the switchports trunks?

I have an all gigE 3560. I don't use the management FE0 port on the back. I was thinking to use that for a 100Mbps WAN connection.
Seems to work just fine when I plugged in an test. But I am not routing across that link yet as I still need to setup the far end.
Is there any reason this would not work? I would like to not burn a gig port if the max throughput of the circuit is 100Mbps.

I have a 3750g connected to a "core" switch stack of 7 other 3750g's via 2 GigE ports in a trunk. This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack. I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to
-switchport trunk ecapsulation dot1q
-switchport mode dynamic desirable
also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk. My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports. So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it? I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).

I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level. I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other. I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it. This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports. I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port. It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere. I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port. However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.
It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.
