I've upgraded a 6509 switches wich are running in VSS, from IOS 12.2 (33)SHI1 to 12.2 (33)SHI5. After that I'm facing the folowing log messages periodically. [code] I know that this is a diagnostic result from TestUnusedPortLoopback feature. But this interface is disabled (shutdown).

I am trying to convince our Technical Lead that dual VSL links between our 6509-E chassis is a VERY good idea but he is fully convinced that the setup will work perfectly fine with only one VSL link. As I do agree that we can do this, I am looking for more concrete evidence that shows this would be a bad setup.
I know that we will lose the High Availably that comes with VSS, what I don't know is what will happen to all of the downstream switches that are connected and what will happen to the two 6509-E chassis..
How I can shutdown a module when I am running vsl.I can use the following command #hw-module module 2 shutdown.As I have modules in both switch 1 and switch 2 how can I ensure I only shut down module 2 in switch 1.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working at a company that has several 6509 switches running CatOS. They have two of the 6509's running in vtp server mode and the rest as clients. I set up a new vlan from one of the vtp servers and it propagated out. The problem comes when I try to assign a port on one of the vtp clients to this new vlan. It gives me an error that the switch must be in vtp server mode to add/delete vlans. I'm not trying to add/or delete a vlan just trying to add a port into an existing vlan. I'm hesitant to put the switch in vtp server mode. Is this a CatOS thing or is there a specific command to accomplish this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe recently installed Cisco 6509-E with dual Sup 720-BXL. We are using this switch on internet Edge. Internet connection is terminating on 10GIG fiber port.We do have following line cards installed.
1. 10 GIG * 4 port line card
2. 1 GIG * 8 port line card
3. Empty
4. Empty
5. Sup 720-3BXL
6. Sup 720-3BXL
7. 1 GIG * 48 ports
8. 1 GIG * 48 ports
9. 1 GIG * 48 ports
We do have 2 GB internet pipe.We are running load test sending http port 80 request and when load reach to arround 100 to 200 mbps and connections from out side to inside 80,000 switch start reponding very very slow and start packet loss and when I try to ping from one server to second server it show normal ping but if I tried to ping gateway IP of server which is SWITCH IP it show packet loss and very high letancy.
Switch also throw message "No memory available: Update of NVRAM configuration failed"
One of our customer , where there 2 6509 switch , one is Core_sw1 and other is Core_sw2 , catering about 32 Vlan , and HSRP in running for all Vlans , till here no problem , now there internet Router which having one Internet link , which connected and configured on Core_sw1 in a way that one interface of Core_sw1 is given Public IP and there is vlan 85 which internet vlan and vlan 85 ip are natted with that public IP with one simple static route given toward internet router , this is how internet is working ok.
Now i have configured vlan 85 in hsrp as all other are , how can give redundancy to vlan 85 user , that if Core_sw1 get down , internet traffic can get out through Core_sw2.using same internet router with single internet link .i am not talking of ISP redundancy , but Vlan 85 in Core_sw1 goes down , other Core_sw2 will server internet.
I have a Catalyst 4510 that is running IOS version 15.X that has a bug and Cisco recommends upgrading the IOS. Are there additional steps required to perform an IOS upgrade due to licencing Cisco put in place?

I guess i forgot to set the default route so now I can't login or ping from outside the local subnet and because of acl restrictions on the vty lines can't login from a device within the local subnet. I can login to the sup module so i'm trying to figure out if there is way to get to the switch from the sup like you would access the sup from the switch by inputting the command session 15 or session 16, is there a way to do the reverse to get to the switch from the sup?

View 8 Replies View RelatedSuffered a big outage on the network, the fix was to reload the module 3 on the 6509 switch, we had these errors on the log %CONST_DIAG-SW1_SP-3-HM_PORT_TEST_FAIL: Switch 1 Module 3 TestUnusedPortLoopback Port(s)[24,46] failed. System operation continues.in the end, we reloaded the card and it was all ok. is there anything I can do to check the card / or any deeper logs? would that error cause the card to crash?

Whenever I try to convert it by using the command "switch convert mode virtual" I get the msg %Please configure local switch number first". After doing so by entering the CLI cmd "switch set switch_num 1 local" I still get the same message.

I have a cisco 3750 swicth which i want to load a new ios to but unfortunately there's no enough space on the flash. This means that i need to backup the cureent (old) ios to my tftp server but the command keeps failing. It always gives 'No such file or directory' error .The free space on the flash is 8mb and my new ios is about 11mb.I also went inside the directory where the old is and inputed the same copy command but to no avail.Below are some of the command failure on the swicth:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to uplink a switch today on a 1500m run of SMF. I have a 6509 core switch with a 16 port GBIC module. On that end I have a WS-G5486-LX with a 3m SC to LC patch cable.On the other end I have a 3750G with a GLC-LH-SM SFP. I have checked my fiber path and it seems good, (by sight, did not have an OTDR avialable).I can't get the link up at all. Tried swapping Tx Rx at one end, Tried different transceivers. Tried different patch cables. Nothing worked. At about the mid-point of my fiber run the cable passes through another network closet with a core switch for a separate network. If I break my fiber path there and try to connect in either direction it works. The only differences are the length of the fiber run and that the core switch on the other network has a CLC-LX-SM SFP.Is it the distance? Or is there some issue connecting a GLC-LH-SM to a WS-G5486-LX?

i tried disabling the diagnostic monitor for the module, did a power enable module command and then reset it but it still fails. this is the third blade that i am replacing in a few weeks and i still get the same error. i am persuded that it is not a hardware since it is the third blade in a matter of weeks. after the module reset, i receive this error % module 3 is operationally off (FRU-power failed)
could an ios upgrade solve this issue? are there any ios related bugs?
We have a network of 30 VLANS and currently all the vlans have access to everything. We are using Cisco 6509 switch for Layer3 routing.I would like to prevent some VLANs accessing the server VLANs. How can I restrict access to the server VLANs?Do i need to implement access-lists on the 6500 switch? or do i need to create VLANS on the firewall so that all traffic i filtered ?
