I have 6509 with dual sups, the secondary sup has failed and I am not able to bring it up even after reboot. the state says unknown/other. What that state" unknown" means?. I could not find any documentation about this state. [code]

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe recently installed Cisco 6509-E with dual Sup 720-BXL. We are using this switch on internet Edge. Internet connection is terminating on 10GIG fiber port.We do have following line cards installed.
1. 10 GIG * 4 port line card
2. 1 GIG * 8 port line card
3. Empty
4. Empty
5. Sup 720-3BXL
6. Sup 720-3BXL
7. 1 GIG * 48 ports
8. 1 GIG * 48 ports
9. 1 GIG * 48 ports
We do have 2 GB internet pipe.We are running load test sending http port 80 request and when load reach to arround 100 to 200 mbps and connections from out side to inside 80,000 switch start reponding very very slow and start packet loss and when I try to ping from one server to second server it show normal ping but if I tried to ping gateway IP of server which is SWITCH IP it show packet loss and very high letancy.
Switch also throw message "No memory available: Update of NVRAM configuration failed"

I thought it may have had something to do with the rebuilt device not being joined tothe domain but it has now been joined albeit using a different ad account, but still cannot register to primary.

What would be correct procedure to install it back in production? Do i need to restore backed up config of the fallen unit or is it just enough to enable multimode and connect to existing (primary) unit? Any good link for documentation that deal with this issues.

I will be installing a secondary SUP720 in a 6509-E and will be upgrading the IOS on the existing SUP which is on 122-18.SXF6. I've read that this release has passed End of Critical Maintenance earlier this you. I thinking of upgrading the IOS to 12.2.33-SXJ1(ED) or 12.2.33-SXI8(ED) (possible more stable), but i'm not sure if i need any step upgrades from the current version. The SUP meets the required hardware specs and I will also be upgrading the ROMMON to 12.2(17r)SX7 first.
I have alot of experience upgrading IOS on routers and switches, but i just need to now if there are any gotchas that i need to know for the upgrade on the SUP.
The other issue is i don't believe the current IOS has been installed, are there any issue running on an IOS not installed. Patching is not available since the system is not running from an installed image. To install please use the "install file" command.

I have an MPLS network router(Router1) and an internet router(Internet1) at a site of mine(Site1). the MPLS router sends all unknown traffic out the internet router. Router1 is the default gateway for all hosts and directs the traffic.I also have another network at an alternate site (Site2) on the same mpls network also with an internet egress. It is composed of an MPLS router (router2) and an internet router (Internet2).I would like Router1 to send internet bound traffic out Internet2 if Internet1 is down. Basically the statement on Router1 for the unknown traffice is ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.31.1.254I have never heard of IP SLA before but it seems to be the best method for this situation.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a few old 2600 routers (2621, different IOS's) which I'm now replacing for new one's from the 2900 series (2901, Version 15.1(4)M4).In my configuration I have two IP addresses in my LAN interface and I have HSRP configured within the secondary IP subnet range. It would be something like this:

Now, in the new 2900 routers, my interface configuration hasn't changed however I can see that the hello packets are now sent with the source within the respective HSRP IP subnet so I had to edit my acl for that:
permit udp 172.x.x.x x.x.x.x host 224.0.0.2 eq 1985
Is there a way I can force the HSRP to work as it previously did in the old IOS's?
I have the above firewall which is working as it should but I have came across an issue with a recent upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2010 Autodiscovery due to the way the port forwarding has been configured for Outlook Web Access (OWA) on the router.
The router is forwarding OWA requests to the exchange server on port 8080 and the default website in IIS on the Exchange Server under which OWA sits and unfortunately Autodiscovery has been set with an SSL port of 8080. I think the reason for this is that we have an RDP server and the router is forwarding all port 443 requests to this server. Due to this Outlook clients cannot connect to Exchange through autodiscovery and cannot therefore get FREE/BUSY and a few other things.
I have 5 public IP addresses and only use two at the moment, one on the ADSL router and one on this firewall. I have no spare interfaces on either the router or the ADSL router.
My question is, is it possible to have a secondary ip address set on the public facing interface and set different rules for this IP which would allow me to forward requests on that IP to a different server?

When quoting a Catalyst 3750X with PoE (WS-C3750X-48P-E) the Dynamic Configurator Tool allows to include as the secondary power supply option the Catalyst 3K-X 350W AC Secondary Power Supply (C3KX-PWR-350WAC/2), but the default included primary power supply is the Catalyst 3K-X 715W AC Power Supply (C3KX-PWR-715WAC). My questions are the following:
1. Will this combination of power supply work?
2. Will the C3KX-PWR-350WAC/2 be able to power up the switch if the primary power supply of 715W fails?
3. Will the PoE will be lost if the primary power supply fails and only the secondary power supply of 350W keeps working?
4. If this secondary power supply of 350W is not suitable for PoE, why it is available as a secondary power supply option in the Dynamic Configurator Tool for a PoE switch?
I have recently configured secondary ip address on LAN Interface of Cisco C6509.. We have some application which needs to use broadcast traffic communication to communicate with client... Broadcast is working within subnet & also working from broadcast server to primary subnet. But not working from secondary subnet.. I have checked broadcast within secondary IP range & it's working fine... Secondary not working broadcast with primary and also with broadcast server... broadcast address is different for these subnet but both should be communicate since configured on same interface... When I went through Cisco website found that command "ip directed broadcast" which will pass broadcast to different subnet... But I'm not sure whether any other impact if I enable that command on particular Ethernet interface...
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just updated a VLAN interface on my router. I have two 6500's with GLBP configured. The particular interface had a primary and secondary IP address. I shutdown the interface on one router and deleted the secondary address then assigned the orignal secondary address to be the be the only address associated with the interface and enabled the interface and it came right back up...all looks good. I proceeded to do the same thing to the other router and once again all looked good. Now, I am able to PING the devices in the subnet from router, but am unable to ping them from any place else. We have two networks, 192.168.0.x and 192.168.11.x connected to router on the same interface (192.168.11.253 is a secondary ip) but I can seem to be able to route packets from one network to the other. Internet traffic is fine from both networks. I can't see what I'm doing wrong here. I can ping the 192.168.11.253 (router) from the 192.168.0 network but nothing beyond that.
I tried this at home with no other config and its the same. Is this by design?

View 2 Replies View Relatedwe've had an issue with our network, we have 2 6509 connected with redundancy, which are connected with 2 x 4900 Switches, from which are connected to a ESX Chassis for visualization, the thing is that the ESX stopped working, and the 4900 switches, and the main core were suffering from overload, they hang on it very well, in order to stop the overload, one of the links to the ESX Chassis were disconnected from one of the 4900 switches. The CPU usage from the 4900 and the core(6509) went down below 40%, and then they started to migrate the virtual servers from the chassis to another 2 chassis that were added right after. They were actually working well, but suddenly the 6509 changed to the other supervisor after everything was OK. We were wondering what could have been the cause of this, maybe the virtual servers migrations, maybe the overload from the ESX ? We also had a few question, is there any need to reload the cores every few months as a planned task ? Because the cores have been up for more than 1 year. And also is there any kind of of tool to monitor the CPU status, or the status overall from the cores or the switches ?

Core Switch:
1x Cisco c6509with a 48 port fast ethernet module (WS-X6248-RJ-45)
and an 8 port fibre module (WS-X6408A-GBIC)
I'm looking to replace this with something with 72 ethernet ports and 8 fibre ports
Access Switches:
2x 3500Replacement needs at least 48 ports and 2 fibre modules each
and 2x 5500Replacement needs at least 72 ports and 2 fibre modules each.

I know it's possible to do a route-map match ip-address ACL list. But is it possible to match on gateway?
Some info about hardware and config:
6509-E in VSS (IOS 12.2(17r)SX5) withVS-S720-10G supervisor.
All routes are static, IP for 192.168.64.9 is on SVI vlan.
I have two ISPs. Each is on it's own subnet connected to the 6509 MSFC/Switch. FW1 is on 100.1.100.0/30 and FW2 is on 200.1.200.0/30 subnet. My goal is route all traffice going to the Internet from subnet 10.133.3.0/24 to FW1 and all other subnets across the organization to FW2. I am not sure if I need to use ACL / Static route combo, or just a static routes or ACLS?

I've got a Cisco 6509 with 4 configured vlan interfaces
Int Vlan 10 10.10.1.0/24
Int Vlan 20 10.10.2.0/24
Int Vlan 30 10.10.3.0/24
Int Vlan 40 10.10.4.0/24
Vlan "10" is the phone voip Vlan and it must not talk with the others Vlan. The others Vlan can comunicate normally except with Vlan "10".
Pratically Vlan "10" needs to be isolated from the others.
This equirement comes becouse Vlan 10 is wireless and has the WEP key encryption (very weak protocol). Some Phone couldn't support the WPA2 key and I need to avoid an unauthorized external client, cracking the WEP key and connecting to this WiFi, could have free access to the others Vlan.
I have a problem on my catalyst 6509 on which I would like to do the following things :
I have some Vlans in which multicast is enabled.
In tose Vlan theres is a router which is default router for equipements.
I had enabled multicast routing because some Vlan needs to exchange multicast informations, but I wolud like to make difference between Multicast traffic. For example I have 5 vlans:
Vlan 1 and 2 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 3 and 4
Vlan 3 and 5 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 1 and 2
Vlan 5 is independant Vlan but doesn't need to have multicast information from all others vlan.
Last problem, equipement on differents vlan can use the same Mulkticast group address. In this case, Multicast routing is not working between Vlan 1 to Vlan 2 and Vlan 3 to Vlan 4.
I need to setup my 6509 with PBR going to two different Firewalls. The 6509 has vlans and multiple serial interfaces. What/where do I install the policy-maps? I want to direct one of the vlans to one firewall and the other vlans and wan subnets to the other firewall.
