Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding 3750X To Stack Of 3750?

Jul 17, 2012

I am getting a version mismatch when adding the following 3750X to the 3750 stack:

   WS-C3750X-48       12.2(55)SE3           C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M
      2 0     WS-C3750-24TS     12.2(25)SEA           C3750-I9K91-M

Can I upgrade the 3750's to be able to correct this?  Which version does this require?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding 3750X To 3750G Stack?

Jun 13, 2012

Our customer has a stack of 6 3750G switches.  They want to add another switch to the stack.  I tried to quote another G, but I got a warning that the G series is EOS January 30,2013.  Can I add a 3750X to the stack?  I know that no matter what switch I get, I will have to upgrade the IOS in the stack, as the stack is running 12.2(25)SEE2.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding 3750 To Stack?

Dec 6, 2011

I have two  3750s stacked and one 3750 standalone all in one data closet. The both have the same versions. I want to combine them to make one stack. How do I force the standalone to be the master? sw 1 priority XX(Higher then the existing stack)? Both the stack and the standalone have management addresses. Would it be ok to delete the stack ip address? That way, the standalone(master's address will be the only management address)?How should I connect the standalone 3750 to the stack? At present, the 3750 stack is connected via a cascade cable going from the stack 1 port of the top switch to the stack 2 port of the bottom switch.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding A New 3750 To Stack

May 29, 2012

I had 2 3750 stacked and one of them decided to die (power supply) cisco replaced it and now i want to re-add that switch to stack. I have already upgraded my replacement switch to the same IOS version.I was reading that i can do it without powering down operational 3750 so the action plan so far is:

-power down NEW member
-connect stacking cable
-power up

as you can see my switch 2 is now a master and it still holds config of all Gi ports for switch 1. If i connect my NEW switch without any config (vlan.dat and startup-config) will my existing switch 2 copy all ports config to new switch ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding A New DHCP Scope To 3750 Stack

Apr 2, 2012

The company I work for owns a remote manufacturing facility that houses a stack of five 3750 switches that function as the core switching system for the plant.  DHCP services are configured on the 3750 stack.

There are currently three VLANs configured, one for data and one for voice (144 and 244 respectively) and one for UCM servers (200), with corresponding subnets of 10.44.32.0 /19, 10.44.0.0 /19 and 10.44.100.0 /24.

The current DHCP scope configurations are as follows:

ip dhcp pool Plant-44_DHCP
network 10.44.32.0 255.255.224.0
default-router 10.44.33.254

[Code].....

My question is will the addition of this scope in the manner presented cause any problems with PCs or IP phones outside the targeted recepents receiving the wrong IP information from this scope?

I plan to identify the users that should be members of this VLAN 444 and change the switchport mode access configuration on the corresponding switch ports from VLAN 144 to VLAN 444.  The voice VLAN 244 will remain the same.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding 3750 Switch To Existing Stack?

Nov 23, 2011

I am looking to add a new 3750 Switcch to an existing stack shown below

Switch   Ports Model             SW Version             SW Image
------   ----- -----             ----------             ----------
*   1   26     WS-C3750-24P       12.2(35)SE5             C3750-IPBASE-M
     2   26     WS-C3750-24P       12.2(35)SE5             C3750-IPBASE-M
     3   26     WS-C3750-24P       12.2(35)SE5             C3750-IPBASE-M

[code]....

I have looked on notes to add a switch to an existing stack and haven’t identified answers on how the IOS will be affected on the new switch – will it downgrade to the current stack version or will the current stack upgrade to its version. At this moment in time I would prefer if the new switch IOS downgraded to the current stack IOS version.The new switch is a 3750V2 – will this affect how it joins the stack?The new switch has the image of IPBASEK9-M – again will this affect how it joins the stack?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Adding Switch To Existing Stack 3750

I am attempting to add and Catalyst 3750 - 12 port Gigabit switch to an existing stack of 3750 48 port switches (non-X fabric). I am not sure how to proceed. These are the two questions/thoughts I have. Any additional perspective I should have before proceeding.

What kind of configuration should I apply to the Gig switch before adding it to the stack?I am sure I will need to assign priority to the new switch, ideally, it will act as master.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multicast In A 3750x Stack

Jan 31, 2012

I recently created a stack using (2) 3750x switches. I have three vlans on the stack (1,105,241) Vlan 105 is configured on 6509 core switches with multicasting and are connected to the stack via gigabit fiber. It is working well with clients on the Master or SW1, however clients on SW2 do not participate in multicasting Any client pc that is connected to SW2 vlan 105 does not show up in the "sh ip igmp snooping group" command. I can statically assign a client on SW2 to the mcast groups but but they fail to register on their own. I can take the cable connection from SW2 and plug it into an SW1 Vlan 105 port and it immediately becomes a member of the groups. I can then connect it back to the SW2 port and it disappears from the group membership. IGMP and PIM are configured with the defaults.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Rolling Stack Upgrade (RSU) With 3750X (IOS 15.0.1-SE3)?

Jun 17, 2012

Switch 2 has an interface configured in RSU Standby.Switch 3 has an interface configured in RSU active. The upgrading sequence is : Switch 2, Switch 1, Switch3.The aim of the test is to prove that there is no loss of IP connectivity throught the RSU process.During the RSU process, there are ping between all the computers.

IOS starting version : 15.0-1.SE3
IOS upgrading version (with OVERWRITE) : 15.0-1.SE3 (same version)

1rst step : Switch 2 reboot and come back master but isolated from original stack (switch 1 and 3)

2nd step : Switch 1 reboot, and come back with switch 2 into the upgrading stack.

Issue : at this step :

-  Switch 1 put its interface (IP 192.168.5.254) up :

-  Switch 3 has not reboot and still has its interface (IP 192.168.5.254) up

=> we have some OSPF adjencies and mac flapping issues : switch 1 and 3 are trying to mount there OSPF adjencies on the same IP. We loss our IP connectivity since step 3 is not over.

3rd step : Switch 3 reboot and come back up in the upgrading stack. The IP connectivity is back, and the RSU process is done.Is that a normal behaviour ?How can we avoid to loose IP connectivity during RSU process ?

I have a 3750X 24 port switch (with NM-1G network module) running IOS 15.0(1). Is there any benefit or reason to plug in the included Stack Wise cable and loop it back to itself in a single switch installation?

I don't see any recommendation in the documentation. The data sheet indicates a single switch is a non-blocking device so I'd think there's no bandwidth advantage like there is when connecting an actual multi-switch stack and needing to close the loop for the full 32 Gbps stack bandwidth.

The member switch has bad ports, so I need to replace it. I have spare 3750X unit. Is it possible to connect the spare unit to the stack and then move the RJ-45 cables from the member with bad ports to the new member? That way I can minimize servers downtime to just a few seconds..If that would work, then the last step would be to move the 10Gb networking module from old member to the new one, as well as the secondary PSU. Is it doable? Also according to the documentation, all I need to add new member is matching IOS version, correct?

I will need to break one of the stack rings between SW1 and SW2 in order to connect the new switches. Does it really matter which ring I break to connect the additional switches? Does one ring act as primary? If so, I'd rather not break that ring so this process is transparent as possible. Also, is there any benefit to disabling the stack port vs just disconnecting the cable?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X - Adding Ports To Existing Port-channel

It has three ports in it that will be added one each to three existing port-channels, I am assuming as long as the "channel-group" command is exactly the same as it is on the three existing port-channels I should be ok just adding the new port. One point to note is that the three existing port-channels all have three ports so this will be adding the fourth port to each port-channel. I know after reading that it is a best practice for load balancing to use either 2, 4, or 8 ports for a port-channel. Also what is the command to see all ports that are in a port channel?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750x Replacing 2nd Stack Wise Cable?

Nov 20, 2011

I have two 3750G switches stacked together however it's not in a full ring configuration:

Stack Ring Speed        : 16G
Stack Ring Configuration: Half
Stack Ring Protocol     : StackWise

And as shown below it's obvious which cable is not working:

show switch neighbors
Switch #    Port 1       Port 2
--------    ------       ------
1         2            None
2        None           1

It's not flapping - it's like the cable isn't there at all. I'm going to try reseating the cable in there and perhaps an all out replacement if necessary. My question - is there any threat of a reboot of the switch stack or of partitioning of the switch stack by trying to get the 2nd cable working?
