Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configure 1941 With Routed Subnet From ISP To Forward To Server
Feb 13, 2013
I have some questions about how to configure my Cisco 1941 with a routed subnet from my ISP to forward them to 1 or more servers in my LAN.1 Routed subnet /29 from my ISP (over a fiber connection). In my LAN I have (at the moment) 3 servers, and about 15 clients.I would like to use the first ip address from the routed subnet for internet traffic from all the clients in the LAN.I would like to use the second ip address from the routed subnet for server1 so that server1 accept some allowed connections and that server1 connects to the internet with the second ip address from the routed subnet
I would like to use the thirth ip address from the routed subnet for server2 so that server2 accept some allowed connections and that server2 connects to the internet with the thirth ip address from the routed subnet.I would like to use the fourth ip address from the routed subnet for server3 so that server3 accept some allowed connections and that server3 connects to the internet with the fourth ip address from the routed subnet.[code]

How to configure traffic flow between computers inside VLANs and a routed port? Here is the setup details:
1. Switch 3750-X
2. VLAN 100 - ( SVI IP address 192.168.100.1 /24)
3. VLAN 200 - ( SVI IP address 192.168.200.1 /24)
4. routed port gi1/0/48 (IP address 192.168.150.1 /24). Note: this port is directly connected to a firewall ASA 5520 port IP 192.168.150.100 /24
Ip routing is enabled on the switch and inter vlan traffic is flowing ok. I can ping the routed port gi1/0/48 from any computer connected in the VLAN 100 or 200. For example computer with IP 192.168.100.25 can ping the routed port 192.168.150.1. Switch can ping firewall port 192.168.150.100 and the 'sh ip route' command shows the network 192.168.150.0 /24 as directly connected network.
any computer in the two VLANs CANNOT ping firewall ASA port 192.168.150.100 Is it because inter VLAN routing does not work with a routed port on L3 switch? I looked up fallback bridging, but it is meant for non IP traffic. The goal is I am trying to set the ASA port as an internet gateway for VLANs.

I'm trying to forward ports for SQL and VNC using these commands in the CLI:
ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.150 5900 interface GigabitEthernet0 5900
ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.150 5800 interface GigabitEthernet0 5800
ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.150 1433 interface GigabitEthernet0 1433
where 192.168.1.150 is my server (that hosts SQL server and that I want to be able to connect to remotely using VNC) and GigabitEthernet0 is my configured WAN interface.
When I try to connect from an external client I get the error: "Failed to connect to server..." Is this a firewall issue? How do I get round it? The 819 is the only router/firewall in my network.

I Have a Cisco 1941 router which had its GE0/1 port burnt out and we have since plugged in a module with 4 fast ethernet ports. I need to reconfigure the router such that at least one of the Fast ethernet ports can server the purpose of the GE0/1. GE0/0 connects to our Service provider and GE0/1 connected to the inside network.Currently, while connected to one of the ethernet ports, i can telnet into the router on the address 192.168.29.1. when i'm on the router, i can ping our remote site, network address 192.168.24.0 with no problem, but when i use the command "Ping 192.168.24.0 source 192.168.29.1" there is no response.

Have our public IP address space masked on /24 at our Internet Router. The router portion of 3845 connects to Internet, while the internal switch connects to my internal network and seeds it with the public address space. The switch had a port configured no switchport (L3) with an ip address with /24 (ie 67.63.145.1 /24) this connects to internal IPS/IDS then to Firewall which NATs to internal, then packet shaper, web filter etc etc etc. I need to test my ISP speed so I need to "break in" to the link between the switch and the IPS/IDS. I figured I could configure another port on the switch on the 3845 but my problem is the port to my network is routed and is masked on entire /24. I tried to configure a port on VLAN 1 and give myself an available address in the L3 address space and this did not work (figured it would not but gave it a try)
Any way to get two ports configured to use the same subnet while one is a L3 routed port and the other is just part of that layer 3 routed network?

During an installation, we plugged a Ruckus wireless bridge (powered by a PoE injector) into G0/0 on the 1941. The port status remained down/down. We then tried connecting it to G0/1. Again, the port status remained down/down. We took another wireless bridge, plugged it into G0/0 and the port changed to up/up status within a few seconds. The same happened when connected to G0/1. Both ports are have speed/duplex set to auto/auto.We took the cable from the first wireless bridge and connected it a 3550 switch, the FastEthernet port went up/up. We then took the cable and connected it to a switchport card (HWIC-4ESW) that was installed in the 1941 router. The port came up/up.We connected to wireless bridge back to G0/0 in the 1941 and manually set the speed/duplex to 1000/full. The link light on the router became illuminated after a few seconds but no console message was displayed (nor did any events appear in the log) and a "show int g0/0" showed the port status as down/down. This was could not be duplicated as this only happened one time The wireless bridges sit atop of a water tower and are connected each via a shielded ethernet cable. The cable that we're having trouble with is cat5e STP and about 310feet in length. I should note that we have not yet swapped the PoE injector but it seams to be functioning properly as power is getting to the wireless bridge and its accessible. Also because if the wireless bridge for some reason didn't come back up after a power cycle it would potentially mean climbing the tower to perform a hard reset. We tried another 1941 with same results however we have not tried another router model to rule out a potential platform issue. Can you recommend any troubleshooting steps to determine why the port status of the gig interfaces on the 1941 don't come up?

we are trying to configure one to one NAT translations on a Cisco 527W-U, but are having some problems. We are running firmware version 1.2.4 (003) on the 527.
The DSL line is assigned with a /29 address range x.x.x.64 /29?
The DSL WAN interface picks up x.x.x.65 /32 from the Radius server. We are using the default private IP address range 192.168.15.0 /24 on the LAN (VLAN1), and can get to the internet ok with a PC connected to the LAN.
However when we try to set up a public IP address in the same range (eg x.x.x.66 /29) on VLAN1 (with x.x.x.67 on the PC) it will not connect. (won't allow us to configure an address from the same range as the WAN on a new VLAN interface).
we would want to be able to do one to one NAT translations eg x.x.x.66 on the outside to 192.168.15.2 inside, x.x.x.67 outside to 192.168.15.3 inside etc, but this will not either. We have tried this on a normal IOS router (887) and it worked ok. We have also tried the same on a small DSL router / modem product similar to the 527 from another manufacturer and it worked ok on that, but we wanted it to be able to work on the 527.
We have tried the NAT bypass feature without any success, reading several other discussion forums on this website leads me to believe that one to one NAT is not supported on this equipment at the moment, or at least not at the current firmware release.
One work around would be to just assign a /32 to the WAN interface on the DSL and route statically to a different routed subnet configured on the LAN, however we were wanting to avoid having to do that if possible.

This question is in the context of servers sitting in a colocation environment behind an ASA5510 with security plus license. Our colo provider is going to be statically routing a /28 public subnet to our ASA5510 (say 1.1.1.0/28). We will also be getting a single IP (say 2.2.2.2/30) on a small router-to-router subnet (2.2.2.0/30) to which the 1.1.1.0/28 subnet will be statically routed to our ASA5510 from our colo provider.I will obviously set the outside interface of the ASA to be 2.2.2.2/30 so that the colo provider can route the 1.1.1.0/28 subnet to it. I will also set a default route to 2.2.2.1 which is the IP of our colo providers gateway (and the router that will be statically routing the 1.1.1.0/28 subnet to us).
We have various servers in the same rack as the ASA (connected via a 3750G switch). Some of these servers need to be exposed to the internet (web, email, etc servers) and some do not (database servers).I'm considering 2 different ways of designing the network but I have questions about both and not sure which way to go:
1) Scenario #1: Using NAT and private IP's for all servers. In this scenario where/how do I assign the internal network (say 10.1.1.0/24) and the public routed subnet (1.1.1.0/28)? I assume the internal 10.1.1.0/24 is an inside network assigned to the interface connected to the 3750G (to which all the servers connect). However, where do I assign the public routed subnet (1.1.1.0/28) since it is somewhat "nebulous" in that it has to reside somewhere on the ASA so that it can then NAT to the internal (10.1.1.0/24) IP's. Also, is it considered an outside or inside network - and on which interface? My confusion is that If its added to the outside interface then won't that conflict with the 2.2.2.2 IP to which the colo provider is routing our 1.1.1.0/28 subnet to? And if its on the inside interface connected to the 3750G then wont that conflict with the 10.1.1.0/24 private IP range of the servers?
2) Scenario #2: Using public IP's for all servers:This scenario seems more straightforward to me: I would want to assign IP's from the statically routed subnet (1.1.1.0/28) to my servers so that range would be configured as an inside network on the interface connected to the 3750G (to which all the servers connect). This would be configured on a specific VLAN (say vlan 50). I would then have another VLAN (say VLAN 100) on the 3750G that has a private IP range (say 10.1.1.0/24) so that non-public servers (database, etc) would reside on there. All public servers that need access to private servers would have a NIC on both VLANS (50 + 100). My question is is this the correct way of approaching this? I also like this because I dont have to worry about NAT and the ASA can act as a router/firewall and things are clear in terms of whats happening.
Ultimately I'm not sure which is the best way to go in terms of having all servers on a private IP range and just NAT to them (as per scenario 1), or implement scenario 2 where servers have two interfaces. The main thing thats bugging me from scenario 1 is I'm not sure where/how to assign the statically routed subnet (1.1.1.0/28) on the ASA? (inside? outside? which interface?).

However I am running into some problems. I can go through the second guide up until it asks me to do this command
Step 5: Configure the transport input protocol on the async lines to Telnet.
Access_Server(config-line)#transport input telnet
I cannot put in Transport Input, I only have the option of doing Transport Output let me show some lines from my console:

Quick question here. Using 3750E series switches with multiple VLANS configured. These switches serve as our 'core'. I have SVIs configured for the different VLANs and add inbound ACLs in each of the SVIs to control traffic between VLANS. This switch also terminates a P2P Ethernet link which connects to our Colo facility. The port used for this is configured as an L3 port. I noticed today that I was able to send traffic across this L3 link that I thought should have been blocked by an ACL I had in place but it wasn't. So the traffic flowed from a port in say VLAN 20 across this L3 link (assigned with an IP address). Would this traffic flow not cause traffic to be checked against an ACL applied in the inbound direction on the SVI of VLAN 20 (int vlan 20)? Traffic does get checked when routing between SVIs. Why would it not get checked when routing between SVI and L3 interface?

I have a collapsed core design with routed ports between all components. Access layer switches, data center switches, core/aggregation. All routed (no spanning-tree at all).Now...I have to add an IBM BladeCenter with a BNT layer 3 switch to my topology. However, those nasties don't seem to support routed ports. How can I have a routed port on my cisco switch and a standard access port on the BNT and still establish an adjacency with an SVI? We've gotten two Nexus 7009's in and I'm starting to configure them when I found I couldn't add VDCs. I found there was no license installed but the only licenses I found that came with them are "Cisco DCNM for LAN Enterprise Lic for one Nexus 7000 Chassis". So my question is this - do I need to configure a DCNM server to get the license pushed to these two 7009s or should there be another PAK for each chassis that I can register and get my enterprise services?

Is there a way to configure a DHCP server for my internal subnet of 192.168.20.1 which is on a 3550 layer 3 switch from my 5505 ASA Firewall. My subnet of 10.1.1.0/30 is connecting my 5505 to 3550. All I'm trying to do is run a DHCP server down to my hosts. The only options on ASA 5505 is
dhcpd address 192.168.20.1 - 192.168.20.254 outside or inside, which conflicts with my subnet of 10.1.1.0 used to connect my internal subnet of 192.168.20.1 for the whole network.
When I used my router it did not need the (inside, outside) keywords and just an ip helper-address command. How do I configure my my firewall DHCP server to propagate the 192.168.20.0 network through my 10.1.1.0 connection.

DHCP addresses would be 192.168.1.1 - 200, GW=???? (10.1.2.3?) and subnet would be 255.255.255.0

The port is generating lot of giants and after a while it also distrubs other routes ( Port1 to Port 16), configured with Vlan11 and port 22 as routed port.I have checked the routed port through wireshark the maximum frame size is 1514 and configured the MTU to 1514, giants are not showing any more but after 10 to 12 hours switch gets hang. Either to shut the port or to reload the switch to get switch and other layer routes to be normal.
I have checked speed and duplex settings same as E1 converter. Full duplex. 100 Speed. Why switch is not behaving normal. If I shutdown the routed port it is normal.

I have two V LANS 2 & 3. There is one device (D1) on V LAN 2 and three (D2,D3,D4) devices on V LAN 3. D1 can talk only to D2 and D3. D4 can talk only to D2 and D3. D1 and D4 cannot talk at all. I got the IP access list all set, but I was asked to get the MAC ACL on it. The problem is that as soon as packet is routed, its MAC addresses will change, correct? Is there way of preventing device with same IP but different MAC from talking to device it should not to, keeping in mind that the packet will be routed?
