Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5548UP - FCoE QoS Configuration
Dec 6, 2012I am looking to implement a QoS policy on a pair of Nexus 5548 UPs. FCoE is a factor here. I have created the following configuration and would like to get a few pairs of eyes to take a look at this for a quick sanity check.
How to make sure this config is valid. Also, I realize I'm applying an MTU of 9216 to all classes right now, this will be phased out incrementally.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7009 / Maximum Distance For FCOE?
Apr 3, 2012We are looking to deploy two Nexus 7009 cores at our two datacenters. They are approximately 2 miles apart. We are hoping to have 10G Dark Fiber between the buildings and therefore dedicate a pair for FCOE between the cores using 10G Long Range SFP's. I read that the Nexus 5000 series had a limit of ~3 km for FCOE. Does the same hold true for the 7000 series? I thought I read somehwere that the buffers were larger on the 7000 series and therefore would be able to do ~30 km.

Apr 20, 2012if vPC is supported between a single 2232PP FEX and two 7000 switches running 6.0(1)? I have been researching this for an implementation I am doing for a client and was able to determine it was not supported with earlier versions of 5.0 when the FEX is connected via vPC as I described above, but I can't find anything related to version 6.0(1). I have done this for other clients with 5000 and 2000 switches, but I don't have too much experience with 7000 switches.

Jan 7, 2013I am trying to install SFP-GE-T module on Nexus 5548UP Switch, but is giving the ‘SFP validation Failed’ error. The details of the switch is given below
Model : N5K-C5548UP-FA
The interface is configured with speed 1000 before inserting the module, still we are getting the same error. PFA logs for more details We have 8 Nos of SFP-GE-T modules , all are giving same error. We tried to insert the module on onboard as well as expansion module.
The same module is working fine on Cisco 3750X-24T-L Switch As per the Hardware installation guide , SFP-GE-T transciever is supported on N5K platform. Please extend your support in configuring SFP-GE-T module on N5K platform? We tried with SFP-GE-S module on the same switch , and the same is found working fine.

Mar 3, 2013I have a customer who is having some issues with 5m passive HP twinax cables, 537965-001, with a Chelsio 10G NIC. Aside from NIC driver issue, if NX-OS recognizes this SFP+, should it be expected to work in a 5020 running 4.2(1)N1(1)? Whether Cisco has certified passive HP twinax cables? I have included output to 'transceiver details' to a Cisco twinax and the HP (WL GORE) cables.

Feb 20, 2013the phone connects to the 3750-A access layer switch (VTP mode client) which connects to the nexus 5596 (The nexus is the layer 3 device and set to vtp mode server) and finally we have a Voice recorder that connects to another access layer 3750-B switch.(VTP mode client)
For voice recording I need to setup RSPAN and the nexus5596 does not support RSPAN will the following have any impact on the nexus
IF I move the 3750-B to VTP server mode and run the command remote span on the VLan I need to Rspan its going to update the VTP data base in short it will update the vlan.dat file for all the switch in that VTP domain.
AS the vtp update reaches the nexus saying there is a change (keeping in mind the nexus does not support rspan not sure hows its going to handle that request and how its going to update its vlan.dat file)
Is it going to incremment the VTP revision number? can it crash the vlan.dat file on the nexus ? or do nothing and ignore the update and stop the update from proceeding to the 3750 A switch?

May 16, 2013We have our Nexus as our default gateway (101.1) and the default VLAN1 is setup with two subnets 101.X and 102.X. The DHCP server is using a superscope setup to accomodate the overflow of devices requesting IPs on 101, so when 101 is consumed persons are able to obtain a 102.X IP address. The setup is basic on superscope. The issue is some times the routing to the firewall with a 102.X is not always 100%. Somedays all goes well and the 102 subnet is routed out to the firewall and its a good day. However, such as today a 102.X address is not routing as it did 24 hours ago. I am perplexed as to why this is behaving unpredicatable. Here is running-config for VLAN1 to show the 102 as secondary address to VLAN1.

Feb 16, 2011you find attached my network architecture with 2 Nexus 7010 on core layer and 2 Nexus 5020 on distribution layer, each one with 1 N2148T fabric extender switch. PC-A1 and PC-A2 are connected to one N2148T, PC-B1 is connected to the other N2148T. Nexus-7000-1 is HSRP Active for all VLANs, Nexus-7000-2 is HSRP standby. PC-A1 and PC-A2 are connected to VLAN A, PC-B1 is connected to VLAN B. PC-A1 and PC-A2 have the same default gateway correspondent to IP HSRP on VLAN A. It happens that PC-A1 is able to ping PC-B1 while PC-A2 is unable to ping PC-B1. If I issue a traceroute from PC-A2 I see Nexus-7000-2’s physical IP address as the first hop even if Nexus-7000-2 is HSRP standby. After the first hop the traceroute is lost. If I shutdown Port-channel 20 on Nexus-5000-2, PC-A2 starts to ping PC-B1.I can’t understand what’s wrong in this architecture.

Mar 25, 2012I have an environment where i have two nexus 7010 switches, along with 2 nexus 5510's. I need to run OSPF as a layer 3 routing protocol between the vpc peer links. I have 1 link being used as a keep alive link, and 3 other links being used as a VpC link.
1) Is it best to configure a separate Vpc VLAN i.e 1010
2) Is it best to configure a vrf context keep-alive
3) just have the management address as the peer ip's.
