Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 1000v Don't Use Private VLANs

Aug 28, 2012

We have a requirement for private VLANS for DMZ hosting within one of our datacentres. I just want to query how private VLANs would work in our environment.We have physical servers connected to fex ports (2 fex per rack for each 5k) of a 5548UP switch, virtual servers using the nexus 1000v (vmware hosts connected to fex ports) Out firewalls and load balancers are connected to an upstream pair of nexus 7ks using vPCs.My question is this, ordinarily the firewall would be in a promiscuous port but as these reside on a physically separate switch will the normal vPC trunk still be sufficient or would the "switchport mode private-vlan trunk promiscuous" be required on the vPC up to the northbound 7k.As these connections are already in production I do not want to affect the existing traffic that doesn’t use private VLANs.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Configure Nexus 1000v Switches With Vmware

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multiple VPC Domains On A Single Nexus 7000?

Nov 13, 2011

I have a customer with three rooms where teh access layer aggregation switches are run back to.

Access Switch Stack A -> room 1 + room 2
Access Switch Stack B -> room 2 + room 3

Is it possible to have three Nexus 7000s ie one in each room (1,2 and 3) and have them setup like this:

Nexus 7000#1     vPC domain 1
Nexus 7000#2     vPC domain 1 + vPC domain 2
Nexus 7000#3     vPC domain 2

Thus gving all access switch stacks redundant links to the core withouit spanning tree.

I know its not ideal but its a campus site and thats how the existing fibre runs go.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7K (6.x) / SPAN To Multiple Destinations Does Not Work

May 18, 2013

I have a single Nexus 7K (6.x) with only F2 modules and I would like to SPAN the same source interfaces and vlans to mulitple destination servers (interfaces).  When configuring SPAN to a single destination traffic gets replicated successfully but when I add an additional destination to the same SPAN session then none of the destination interfaces receive any traffic.  As soon as modify the SPAN to include only a single destination interface it works again.  I'm guess this is a limitation of the Nexus 7K 6.x code or the F2 modules.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7010 / Multiple VPCs Benefits?

Mar 30, 2012

I have a senario where i'm going to have 2 Nexus 7010 connected as a core, and i'm going to have 4 5510's connected in a star formation. Each nexus 5510 will connect to the nexus core Via two 10Gb links. Each nexus 5510 will have 2 links attached to The core switches in vPc's.

Nexus 7010-1 = Core 1
Nexus 7010-2 = Core 2
Nexus 5510-1 = vPC = 100 2 Ports in vPc 100 -- > 7010-1, 7010-2
Nexus 5510-2 = vPC = 200 2 Ports in vPC 200 -- > 7010-1, 7010-2
Nexus 5510-3 = vPC = 100 2 Ports in vPc 300 -- > 7010-1, 7010-2
Nexus 5510-4 = vPC = 200 2 Ports in vPC 400 -- > 7010-1, 7010-2

The way I intend to configure the vPC's is this the best way. If i get a vPC dual active scenario what would happen. All ports will be forwarding all VLAN traffic this is how I intend to have it work.

  So I even added him to the VSM configuration statically as VEM 7 the next available and nothing.

Is this actually the case? I know you could use portgroup based network  pools with vCD 1.0 and 1kv. Can I use the 1kv with VLAN-backed network  pools in vCD 1.5 without the Virtual Network Management Center or is it  required?

Cisco Infrastructure :: Installation Of Nexus 1000v 4.2.1.SV2.1.1 - Operation Timed Out

Nov 6, 2012

We are trying to install the latest version of Nexus 1000v to ESXi5.1 and the installer application is much better than the previos one, but we are having problems with implemetation, because deploying of OVA file times out.

First attempt: Nexus-1 was successfully deployed on ESXi-1, but Nexus-2 which should be deployed on ESXi-2 returned an error: "Deploy OVF template":"Operation timed out." Second attempt: Deploying of Nexus-1 returned the same error Third attempt: The same as the first attempt.

It looks like that there is a time limit which is used for deploying OVA file and since file needs to be uploaded to ESXi it takes too long, so the installation fails. Is it possible to extend this time?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5000 LAN Routing Connection Deployment

May 16, 2013

We have our Nexus as our default gateway (101.1) and the default VLAN1 is setup with two subnets 101.X and 102.X. The DHCP server is using a superscope setup to accomodate the overflow of devices requesting IPs on 101, so when 101 is consumed persons are able to obtain a 102.X IP address. The setup is basic on superscope. The issue is some times the routing to the firewall with a 102.X is not always 100%. Somedays all goes well and the 102 subnet is routed out to the firewall and its a good day. However, such as today a 102.X address is not routing as it did 24 hours ago. I am perplexed as to why this is behaving unpredicatable. Here is running-config for VLAN1 to show the 102 as secondary address to VLAN1.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7010 - Inter-VLAN Routing On Multilayer VPC Environment

Feb 16, 2011

you find attached my network architecture with 2 Nexus 7010 on core layer and 2 Nexus 5020 on distribution layer, each one with 1 N2148T fabric extender switch. PC-A1 and PC-A2 are connected to one N2148T, PC-B1 is connected to the other N2148T. Nexus-7000-1 is HSRP Active for all VLANs, Nexus-7000-2 is HSRP standby. PC-A1 and PC-A2 are connected to VLAN A, PC-B1 is connected to VLAN B. PC-A1 and PC-A2 have the same default gateway correspondent to IP HSRP on VLAN A. It happens that PC-A1 is able to ping PC-B1 while PC-A2 is unable to ping PC-B1. If I issue a traceroute from PC-A2 I see Nexus-7000-2’s physical IP address as the first hop even if Nexus-7000-2 is HSRP standby. After the first hop the traceroute is lost. If I shutdown Port-channel 20 on Nexus-5000-2, PC-A2 starts to ping PC-B1.I can’t understand what’s wrong in this architecture.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5548P Routing

Feb 6, 2012

I have a pair of 5548P switches with the L3 daughter cards installed.  Using the base license as I just need RIP routing.  I have the two switches setup and have the RIP routing feature enabled.  When I "turn on" routing using RIP I do not get any routes from my existing L3 switch (3750).  I probably don't have routing setup correctly.  With the 3750 IOS, I just turned on RIP with the router rip command and added a couple of network statements.  On the nexus I have run router rip {instance} and left it at that.  I am not getting any routes from my 3750.  The 5548s are using the management ports and are connected to my existing network with L2 trunks.  Does any know of a setup guide for RIP?  I have used the Nexus 7000 RIP guide but still can't get it to work.
