View 5 RepliesI'm looking for some input on configuring vPC on the Nexus 3048.I know that it's supported to use 1G interfaces for the vPC Peer-Link, but using 2x1G for the Peer-Link would make the Peer-Link a bottle-neck if the 10G ports are used in a vPC. What about using 2x10G ports for the Peer-Link and using the remaining 10G ports in one, or potentially two vPCs. Should that work or is it in any way not recommended? The reason I'm asking is that the 10G ports are called "Uplink" ports in the data sheets for the 3048.
We are planning to connect some servers to the 3048s using vPC with each server connected by 4x1G interface (2x1G for each switch), and then we want to connect a Netapp storage system with two controllers using 2x10G each (the controllers are active/passive, so you can think of it as two separate systems). We would connect controller A with vPC 1x10G to each switch, and controller B in the same way with vPC 1x10G to each switch.
I am building up vPC on 2 x Nexus 3048 and found that it did not work properly.The current config as follows,
1. OS: n3000-uk9.5.0.3.U2.2.bin
2. Peer link: 10 x 1G (E1/1 - E1/10) on both devices (I am wondering that 1G interface supports vPC Peer-Link. I heard that upgrading to U3.2 image will work for 1G rather than 10G... )
3. They can ping each other via management IPs
4. Edge switches vPC have not been built yet (I am focusing on Peer-Link and vPC role selection)

I have been assigned the task of trunking VLAN between a Nexus 3048 and a Force10 S4810. This would seem easy enough but I am really having a bear of a time getting it to work. I have devices configured on VLAN 602 on both sides but they just are not talking.

I have a brand new Nexus switch that I cannot log into. I do not know the user/pw and think I may have to do a pw reset. Any proc for doing pw recovery on these new devices?

Vlan 10 is 10.1.X.X/24 and Vlan 19 is 192.168.X.X/24, connected two pcs one is Vl 10 and second pc 19. But not able to communicate both Vlans.Nexus 3048 are not Support VTP Mode Server, running version 5.0. [code]

We will be using Nexus 3048 and we have 3750 catalyst switches as our distro switches.
Any recommendations for top of rack switch for within our data centre.Dual power is a requirement, but bandwidth and through put will not be huge as such I have been looking atthe WS-C3560X-48T-L and the Nexus 3048.

This replication is unidirectional so I will refer to the 2 server subnet as the source subnet and the single server subnet as the destination subnet. I plan to apply the following configuration, with an ACL that denies 10.0.0.0 / 24 then accept 10.0.0.0 / 8. I am quite sure of the answer but need a confirmation about the following configuration correct ? (10.0.0.0 / 24 will be not blocked, and no policing will be apply on it?)

I have a customer who requires to identify and police traffic on egress on a 3560 trunk link. I cannot use ingress classifications because we do not know what route the traffic will take yet. The egress interface connects to multipoint wireless equipment with 4 different bandwidth point to point links. So the ingress traffic may be routed via any one of 4 point to point wireless links connected to the single egress interface. Am I correct in assuming we cannot mark on the egress direction then put the traffic in a SRR shaped egress queue based on the marking ? So we would only have the option to egress queue based on markings applied or trusted on the inbound direction ? I had thought of some kind of policy map/aggregate policer configuration based on the exit VLAN but it seems we can only apply this type of config inbound. From reading the 3560 configuration guides it seems the 3560 cannot deploy the kind of requirements this customer needs. Perhaps they should have deployed some kind of Metro switch ?

Trying to control capacity utilization for guest users connecting to a 2960 switch. No problem for IPv4 users, but IPv6 is giving me fits. What I've found out by trial and error so far implies that there is just enough IPv6 smarts in a WS-C2960-24TT-L running c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-1.SE to make it impossible to control IPv6 traffic. Blocking IPv6 would be sufficient short term, but MAC filtering on type 0x86DD does not appear to work either. Here are the results I've gotten so far:
What "works":
* Protocol ipv6 or an IPv6 ACL in a class map.
* Using a class map referencing ipv6 protocol or an ipv6 ACL in a policy map.
* IPv4 inbound filters and policing.
* Blocking of IPv4 traffic by a MAC ACL blocking type 0x0800 (IPv4) - note that the docs explicitly state that MAC filters do NOT filter IP traffic, except for on this box on this release they do.
What does not work:
* Applying a policy map referencing a class map referencing protocol ipv6 or an IPv6 ACL to an interface. The service policy is accepted by the parser, but is not inserted into the running configuration.
* "class-default" in a policy map only matches IPv4 traffic, not all other traffic.
* Blocking of IPv6 traffic by a MAC ACL blocking type 0X86DD. No problem applying the access-group to the interface, it just doesn't do anything.
I am aware that this box is not supposed to support IPv6 other than for multicast, but as implemented, this is a hole an abuser could drive a MAC truck through.
My questions:
Is this situation unique to this particular 2960 switch or SW release (I also tried 12.2(58)SE2) or does it afflict all 2960's running LANbase?
Assuming the answers to the first two question are negative, what is the minimum requirement to get working IPv6 policing in an edge switch?
I am configuring a 3560 to provide internet access for our customers and I need to make sure they don't use more bandwidth than they have contracted for.I see that the 3560 supports the rate-limit command, but was told that I should use traffic shaping and policing along with access lists to manage the bandwidth.Is there a reason that I should avoid using the rate-limit command - it looks much simpler.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have our Nexus as our default gateway (101.1) and the default VLAN1 is setup with two subnets 101.X and 102.X. The DHCP server is using a superscope setup to accomodate the overflow of devices requesting IPs on 101, so when 101 is consumed persons are able to obtain a 102.X IP address. The setup is basic on superscope. The issue is some times the routing to the firewall with a 102.X is not always 100%. Somedays all goes well and the 102 subnet is routed out to the firewall and its a good day. However, such as today a 102.X address is not routing as it did 24 hours ago. I am perplexed as to why this is behaving unpredicatable. Here is running-config for VLAN1 to show the 102 as secondary address to VLAN1.
View 2 Replies View Relatedyou find attached my network architecture with 2 Nexus 7010 on core layer and 2 Nexus 5020 on distribution layer, each one with 1 N2148T fabric extender switch. PC-A1 and PC-A2 are connected to one N2148T, PC-B1 is connected to the other N2148T. Nexus-7000-1 is HSRP Active for all VLANs, Nexus-7000-2 is HSRP standby. PC-A1 and PC-A2 are connected to VLAN A, PC-B1 is connected to VLAN B. PC-A1 and PC-A2 have the same default gateway correspondent to IP HSRP on VLAN A. It happens that PC-A1 is able to ping PC-B1 while PC-A2 is unable to ping PC-B1. If I issue a traceroute from PC-A2 I see Nexus-7000-2’s physical IP address as the first hop even if Nexus-7000-2 is HSRP standby. After the first hop the traceroute is lost. If I shutdown Port-channel 20 on Nexus-5000-2, PC-A2 starts to ping PC-B1.I can’t understand what’s wrong in this architecture.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an environment where i have two nexus 7010 switches, along with 2 nexus 5510's. I need to run OSPF as a layer 3 routing protocol between the vpc peer links. I have 1 link being used as a keep alive link, and 3 other links being used as a VpC link.
1) Is it best to configure a separate Vpc VLAN i.e 1010
2) Is it best to configure a vrf context keep-alive
3) just have the management address as the peer ip's.
I have a pair of 5548P switches with the L3 daughter cards installed. Using the base license as I just need RIP routing. I have the two switches setup and have the RIP routing feature enabled. When I "turn on" routing using RIP I do not get any routes from my existing L3 switch (3750). I probably don't have routing setup correctly. With the 3750 IOS, I just turned on RIP with the router rip command and added a couple of network statements. On the nexus I have run router rip {instance} and left it at that. I am not getting any routes from my 3750. The 5548s are using the management ports and are connected to my existing network with L2 trunks. Does any know of a setup guide for RIP? I have used the Nexus 7000 RIP guide but still can't get it to work.

This is regarding Nexus core switch 7010. We are already running two nexus 7K with ten Nexus 5k. Currently we are going to add two new Nexus 5k in our DC. In the 7K we already running two VDC's.

I have replaced the fan from another operational Nexus5K, and the fans are fine in the other Nexus. The replacement fans also have the same issues, so it is not a fan hardware issue.
There are no threshold alarms. the only log entry that is related to this is as follows:

I was reading a QoS walkthrough earlier to try to solve my problem and I noticed that in IOS, you can specify "match vlan" in a class map. This is not available in NX-OS. I'm not doing any routing on the 5K so I cannot match on ACL, and port where traffic is received is a trunk sharing other types of traffic I'd like to classify elsewise.
How can I match traffic on a per-VLAN basis?

I have also ensured that this vlan is added to the port channel going to my Nexus5K's. I added the vlan to the 5K's and also ensured that vlan 555 is traversing the peer link. all is good there. I have also placed a device on a interface on the 2k as a access switchport on vlan 555

I have gone throug just about everything I can think of and I am still unable to get this L3 interface to come up. I have other L3 interfaces on this device that are configured exactly the sameway without any issue at all. All the existing interfaces are working properly, it's jut this new interface that I am trying to add.
I am running version 6.0.1 on the 7K and 5.2.1.N1.4 on the 5K.
