Cisco VPN :: 5512x / RA VPN Using AnyConnect In 2nd Site?

May 14, 2013

I am looking into a DR plan where should a primary site go down users with the Cisco anyconnect client will be able to VPN to a second site. The ASA I am configuring is a 5512x for the 2nd site. The main site has a pair of 5510's in a HA pair. Is it possible to setup a secondary Remote Access VPN connection for users to connect to? If I was to configure Anyconnect RA VPN on the ASA on the 2nd I would need to purchase an SSL cert in order to configure this?

Cisco Firewall :: Cannot Use FTP Passive / Active Of ASA5505

Sep 12, 2011

Users cannot download some files from a FTP in a software over VPN Explanation users work with a program and inside the program they download claim (the software goes to the FTP and download the file)

But the program returns an error 3018 in FTPGET. If the user goes to the old PPTP VPN it works like a charm  so the problem is the Cisco VPN.

I cannot post my complete config but we use the filter vpn value to associate a special access-list to a user.

The user that has this problem has this as an access-list.

access-list 201 extended ip permit 10.250.128.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.202.0 255.255.255.0

I've made some research and i've added this info

policy-map global_policy
class inspection_default
Inspection ftp

Still doesn't work.

I have to  add that normally the internal network is 2.0 and not 202.0 but since we have user with 2.0 at home we had to do this.

So when a user sends a request to 202. the cisco fowards it to the Juniper inside the network and it translate it back to 2.0 Also that is the ONLY thing that doesn't work.  The client can work all day on that program and it will work #1 exept when she does the claims

I am also been working on this VPN for 2-3 months without any problems.

Cisco WAN :: 5520 - Active / Passive ASA With Redundant ISP Connections

Apr 25, 2012

Currently we are using a single connection to our ISP and in the coming months will be moving to a two seperate connections (to same ISP). In our current setup we utilize active/passive ASA's (5520, single context) and would like to utilize that going forward as well, the reason being is our DMZ's all hang off of these ASA's and we have fiber connectivity between our datacenters. Our main datacenter and DR Datacenter are basically one big LAN with fiber between them, so we have our DMZ networks at both locations currently with both terminating in our ASA's. That way if the ASA at our current site fails the DMZ's are still accessible via the secondary firewall at our DR facility.

i have a problem with a Failover Pair of 5510. The Boxes run with the software version 8.2.5.

If the Active ASA goes down, the Standby ASA switch to Active.

If i switch on the old Active ASA, both ASA are Active. This problem don't solved with the command 'no failover active' on the Standby box. This problem only solved with the command 'no failover' and then 'failover' on the Standby box.

Cisco WAN :: 2921 - Network Design With BGP And Active / Passive ASA's

Mar 1, 2012

The following diagram is showing what I "Plan" on doing or "Hope" I can do. This is the most complicated deployment I have taken on in my profession, and Honestly it is very exciting, but had some questions.

1. The network between the ASA's and Routers, is that suppose to be a Private network or Public Network? I have to assume Public because I want my ASA's to take care of the NAT.

2. ASA's are runing single context Active/Standby so what way will the ASA push out going traffic?

3. The routers need to know about each other in a BGP configuration, correct? We accomplish this using iBGP so will that traffic need to be allowed through my firewall to allow the routers to share that information, or should these routers be talking to each other outside the firewalls?

Is this design possible? I am sure there are limitations as always, just trying to wrap my head around the flow of traffic and where to start.

Additional Details/Requirements -

BGP routers are 2921's that I have control of. Both routers have 4 port GigEtherswitches in them.

ASA's are Active/Passive and cannot be Active/Active due the limitations of the Active/Active Design (VPN limitations)

Both ISP's must be used for outbound traffic, I would like to be able to load balance, but can send some traffic one way and the rest of the traffic the other way based on Routes.

ISP's are not Symentrical, one is 50mbps and the other is 250mbps.

All NAT should take place at the ASA's

Additional Questions:

The routers that have gig etherswitches, can they run HSRP?

Should I be putting Layer 3 switches between the routers and the ASA's instead?

Where should I run my iBGP communication for the routers?

Cisco VPN :: ASA 5510 - AnyConnect Licensing With IP Phone

Feb 21, 2013

I am just getting more confused the more I try to work it out. Not sure if this goes in the IP Telephony section or here. We have an ASA 5510 with the base license. We are needing to install IP Phones at remote workers homes, and I understand there are Cisco IP phones which have VPN clients built in to allow a tunnel to the central private network. IT appears that you can only use Any connect VPN for this, ans I am trying to work out what licensing upgrade we need to apply to the ASA, as the two Any connect licenses you get free on the ASA is not enough.

This is the phone we are looking to get; {URL} . What I want to know is will the Any connect Essentials license work with these IP phones? When I do a show version,

Licensed features for this platform:
Maximum Physical Interfaces  : Unlimited
Maximum VLANs                : 50
Inside Hosts                 : Unlimited
Failover                     : Disabled
[code].....

This platform has a Base license. It shows "Any Connect for Linksys phone : Disabled", is this the same for Cisco IP Phones? Is this the specific licensing type I should be looking to get for Any connect on IP phones or will Essentials do?

Cisco VPN :: ASA 8.4(1) AnyConnect Premium User Upgrade Licensing?

Feb 22, 2012

Prior to version 8.4(1) Cisco called their licensing name for SSL/VPN users AnyConnect Premium SSL VPN and currently the new name of the licensing is simply AnyConnect Premium.  Also, the IOS display name for the amount of SSL/VPN users enabled via your licensing (ex. 2, 10, 25, 50, ...) by running a 'show activation-key' was changed from SSL VPN Peers to AnyConnect Premium Peers. With that said, my question is if the license for upgrading 10 users to 25 users (L-ASA-SSL-10-25= - ASA 5500 SSL VPN 10 to 25 Premium User Upgrade License) on an ASA prior to 8.4(1) and an ASA with 8.4(1) is still valid and the correct part number to peform these upgrades for both ASAs.  The description of this part number is throwing me off because it says SSL VPN to Premium User, which was the name prior to 8.4(1).  I could not locate any documentation regarding this part number or upgrading 10 users to 25 users for both ASAs.

My question is this - we have made a lot of changes since February 12th and I am planning on fixing this failover issue over the weekend. Will the secondary (now active) FW sync it's config to the non-active FW, or will the failed FW sync it's out-of-date config - removing any changes that we've made in the last month or so.

Thats all that's driving this effort currently. I already reminded mgmt that the 3030 and the IPSec client are end of life.I just think anyconnect is the better solution based on current skillset and the popularity of the solution.

No active temporary key.
Running Activation Key: XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Pair Of N7K Distribution Switches Connected To A Pair Of Aggregation Switches

Mar 11, 2012

We have a pair of N7K distribution switches connected to a pair of N7K Aggregation switches. We run vPC on both pairs of n7k's.

-n7k-d1 has two interfaces in a Port-Channel connecting to n7k-a1 & n7k-a2. (PC1)
-n7k-d2 also has two interfaces in a Port-Channel connecting to n7k-a1 & n7k-a2. (PC2)

My problem is that Spanning-Tree is blocking PC2 and all traffic from n7k-d2 is traversing the Peer-Link before reaching the Aggregation layer. Is this the best design for connecting two pairs of n7k's with vPC or if a better design would be to connect all 4 links into the same Port-Channel and vPC?

Cisco Firewall :: Upgrading From PIX To ASA 5512X

Mar 12, 2013

We are in the middle of upgrading from two PIX's to some new ASA5512X's. To give you some background on the situation we are upgrading these since the PIXs are fairly old. We had one extra that we had to use since one PIX has failed already. The guy that implemented the PIXs orginally was learning how to do so as he went so there is alot of needless config in the PIX, atleast from what I can tell. Another guy that works with me has done some configuration on the new ASAs and has done the majority of it so far. Today we went to install the new ASAs and switch everything over hoping it would work, but that didn't happen. It seems that there is something wrong with our NAT and ACLs somewhere along the lines. The way our network is laid out is that we have two school campus with a site-to-site VPN one is 172.17.0.0/16 and the other is 172.18.0.0/16. We also have a remote-access VPN on both ASA's. When we connected the new ASAs up and brought up the interfaces, nothing on the inside could ping the internet nor the other side. The VPN showed active on the ASA's and each ASA could ping the others outside interface, but that was it. I have posted the configs below.
