Cisco VPN :: ASA 5505 - Configure AnyConnect And IPSec VPN Connection?
Mar 3, 2012
This is for an ASA 5505. I am trying to configure an AnyConnect and IPSec VPN connection and I think it's almost there but not quite yet. When I login from an outside network it gives me the following error for the SSL AnyConnect "The VPN client was unable to setup IP filtering" and "Secure VPN connection terminated by peer" for the IPSec. I previously had this working since Oct, but I was trying to modify it a little to accept LT2P for native Android VPN clients and that messed up everything that I had working perfectly. I checked everything as best as I could to try and match the previous settings but still can't get the darn thing to work. I am trying to also do Hairpinning, I want all VPN traffic to pass through this router... remote LAN and Internet traffic for times when I am at unfamiliar wifi hotspots and need to check email securely. I have included my running config. I also need to configure the ASA to accept native Android VPN connections. I read the most popular thread that worked for a few users but while doing those modifications that is where everything went downhill. T

I'm trying to connect two ASA 5505s for a IPSec L2L VPN. They can connect, but not pass traffic from the AnyConnect subnet. I've added the config from ASA-2, with the LAN subnet of 192.168.138.0 and a subnet of 192.168.238.0 for AnyConnect client.
I'm trying to get the AnyConnect Clients access to the 192.168.137.0 LAN behind ASA-1 at 1.1.1.1. Having both 192.168.238.0 and 192.168.138.0 both access 192.168.137.0 is acceptable.
There's probably a lot of cruft in this config, as I've been reading all over forums and docs without much success.

A customer has a 5505. According to the datasheet the limit of IPSEC sessions is 25 and the limit of anyconnect sessions is 25. Does that mean I can have 25 IPSEC tunnels and 25 Anyconnect tunnels at the same time? The customer needs at least 50 concurrent tunnels on his ASA. Am I understanding it correctly?
I was thinking the customer could pay for the anyconnect essentials license and connect his anyconnect clients to the ASA. Is that a good option to get the 50 concurrent clients connected?

We currently have a tunnel configured between 2 ASAs
1- Is it possible to assign 1.5 Mbits of Bandwidth(BW) to this tunnel?. Then if Tunnel number 2 is configured I could assign 2 Mbits to that one for example?
I am not referring to prioritizing certain type of traffic over the IPsec tunnel, I am referring to Tunnel 1 has 1.5 Mbits of BW guaranteed for all traffic that goes thru it. Same for tunnel 2
Then
2- How to monitor the amount of BW in an IPsec tunnel?

I am trying to configure a Cisco ASA 5505 for Remote Clients.I am using ASDM interface and used the startup and ipsec wizards for my configuration but im hitting a stumbling block. For the last 2 days i have tried a number of configuration changes in attempt to make this work but failed, so i have done a factory reset and gone through the wizards again, so i have a clean configuration. Currently i have a Static Public IP Address 81.137.x.x and i am using a Netgear ADSL router, which is forwarding VPN traffic (UDP 500) to 192.168.171.35 (the wan port on the ASA 5505).The Cisco ASA has a default address of 192.168.1.1 I am using Cisco Client 5.0.06.0160.I have configured the client to use Group Authentication with the same credentials as setup through the wizard and im using Transparent Tunneling IPSec over UDP.I have attached 2 documents running_config.txt - which is shows the current ASA configuration Log-View.txt - showing error messages displayed in the real-time log viewer when i try to connect from the remote client.Im not sure whether i need to do any additional configurations for my setup other than simply run the wizards.

I have a Cisco ASA5520 with Software Version 8.2(5) in place, most my users are Mac Users and I am currently looking into Cisco AnyConnect in comparison to using VPN client.
I have a couple of questions
1) Does Cisco AnyConnect make use of IPsec or is it soley SSL VPN based?
2) From the license information I have below in my ASA I understand that I can have max 750 vpn peers however am I right in saying that this does not apply to Cisco AnyConnect peers? and that with Cisco AnyConnect I can only have 2 peers? Also what are the disabled anyconnect options for?
Licensed features for this platform:
Maximum Physical Interfaces : Unlimited
Maximum VLANs : 150
[Code]....
3) When trying to set up Cisco Anyconnect on the ASA using ASDM, I noticed I needed to upload AnyConnect client images however when I did this by uploading the .dmg file for mac machines I got the error message "not a valid SVC image". Is this because I am running 8.2?

There's also no option to use PCF files from the previous Cisco IPSec VPN client. How to get IPSec VPN working on AnyConnect 3.0?

I'm planning to upgrade Cisco ASA 8.2 to an anyconnect essentials and mobile license. Are there any concerns with some users continuing to utilize the cisco vpn IPSEC client while others migrate to the Anyconnect? I just want to make sure when I upgrade the license that there will not be an immediate requirment to have all users switch to Anyconnect immediately.

I was wondering if it is needed to license the IPsec VPN clients in the ASA5500 firewalls...I know that you have license the SSL VPN peers (AnyConnect). I am almost sure that for the IPsec you don't have to.

I am a little new to Cisco ASA's but we bought two new 5540's to use as a new VPN solution for our company. We want to implement Cisco Anyconnect full client and Clientless based solutions for our end users. I am having problems working with setting up access lists based on groups. I simply want to create access-lists to certain IP's based on groups. I ultimately want to get to the point where we have Dynamic Access Policies that are based on Active Directory Groups allowing access to back end servers based solely on their group membership in AD. But first I need to figure out how to just apply an ACL on a group.

We have an ASA 5520 with two VPN profiles working fine.Since some users are now working with Windows 8, VPN clients for Cisco ASA is not able to connect.I have read there are problems for such VPN Clients in that OS, and I should use now Anyconnect for them to connect. I thought we had anyconnect working also, because some users can connect to a web page they can do some kind of connections to internal servers, (web, telnet, rdp, etc) so I installed cisco anyconnect VPN client in a laptop and try to connect (same IP and port I used for that web page) but after signing I get the message AnyConnect is not enabled on the VPN Server. So I tried to follow a configuration guide for Anyconnect, but there's a step in which I am trapped, these are the steps: Click Configuration, and then click Remote Access VPN.

I am familiar with PIX and IOS prior to 8.3 so this is my 1st time with newer versions. My equipment is in a lab environment at the moment but will be placed into production shortly. I recieve the following errors when trying to establish an Anyconnect VPN connection with the local account on the ASA. Below is my config

how to configure AnyConnect on an ASA5505, but I wanted to check before to make sure I was going the right direction.
Setup: I have a very simple setup and basic goal. I currently just have one laptop on E0/1 of my ASA5505 and then the ASA configured with a static IP plugged to the Internet. I have the ASA correctly configured and can browse the web through the laptop. I also have the AnyConnect and AnyConnect Mobile licenses as well.
Goal: I want to set up AnyConnect on the ASA5505 and just establish a successful connection from an android mobile device running the necessary AnyConnect software from the market.
There are lots of guides for specifc set ups, but as described, I want to keep this as simple as possible.

Also, I'm more comfortable with the CLI. Is it simpler to use the ASDM wizard for this?

I have a CIsco ASA 5505 with the default license that only allows the use of 3 interfaces (inside, outside, DMZ). I'm already utilizing all 3 but I'd like to configure the AnyConnect Client VPN stuff. I know with solutions like OpenVPN you can configure it to use NAT instead of actually giving it an interface with a different network and configuring routing.

I have an ASA 5505 and i recently for some reason cannot connect to the VPN using anyconnect.Usually users would connect using the Anyconnect URL with the configured port number: https://publicipaddress:8443
Right now we are getting "page cannot be displayed" since it doesn't connect to the Anyconnect URL page.
I haven't done any recent configuration for this to have failed. I have checked the and both ports 443, and 8443 are allowed in the firewall. NAT is also allowing an exemption for the VPN Pool.

We have a RA Vpn split_tunnel setup in one of our locations which is working fine in all areas except for traffic destinged for one specific website using https. This vendor only allows the HTTPS connections to them to come from certain outside IP addresses. ssentially it should work like this:RAVPN_client (10.4.4.0/27) --> https request to vendor_ip (208.x.x.x) ---> ASA55XX --> NAT_to_outside_ip --> https request to vendor_ip (208.x.x.x) need to understand how you would go about NATing ONLY this specific https traffic from the RA VPN while not having to alter the setup otherwise. Internal hosts (aka behind the ASA physically) do not have any issue getting to this site, as its nat'd to the outside ip address as we expect. Here is what we are using for the NAT Exemption list he 10.2.2.x, 192.168.100.x and 172.23.2.x are other remote sites that we have. RA VPN users are using the 10.4.4.0/27 do not have any issues connecting to them, no matter the protocol.

I have a ASA5505 with the Sec Plus license on it. This allows 25 VPN peers at any time according to the show version output:
Licensed features for this platform:
Maximum Physical Interfaces : 8
VLANs : 20, DMZ Unrestricted
Inside Hosts : Unlimited
Failover : Active/Standby
VPN-DES : Enabled
VPN-3DES-AES : Enabled
VPN Peers : 25
WebVPN Peers : 2
Dual ISPs : Enabled
VLAN Trunk Ports : 8
AnyConnect for Mobile : Disabled
AnyConnect for Linksys phone : Disabled
Advanced Endpoint Assessment : Disabled
UC Proxy Sessions : 2
This platform has an ASA 5505 Security Plus license.
1.)As far as I understand this means RA users and peer2peer combined?
2.)I need additional RA clients to be able to connect in at any time, as far as I know there is no way to allow more IPSEC clients then this due to hardware limitations?
3.)If I go for the Anyconnect option (10 users license), does this then mean that I can use the 25 IPSEC VPNs and at the same time have users using the 10 SSL Anyconnect VPNs at the same time?
4.)Which Anyconnect license am I supposed to buy if this is the route I go, the clients will all be connecting from their desktops most of the time?
5.)Is it difficult to set up?

I'm having problems getting AnyConnect clients to reach a server (192.168.139.3) on the Inside interface of my ASA 5505. Ideally, this would be accessible from the DfltAccessPolicy or another dedicated policy, but right now I'm happy with any access. Everything else seems to be working as expected. I've rebuilt this config a number of times without success. I can ping the IP from the ASA itself.

So I have an asa 5505 running ipsec and anyconnect and it has been working great for months. I have not made any changes to the config, but suddenly all of my anyconnect traffic is being dropped. The vpn uses the same subnet as the LAN. I tried putting a rule in to allow all traffic from the LAN subnet on the outside interface. Now I just get the WEBVPN-SVC Action-Drop in packet tracer.
