Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7609 For Switching / Based On LAN (VRRP / HSRP) Feature

Oct 18, 2011

I am facing an isssues with 7609 for LAN switching , based on  LAN (VRRP/HSRP) feature.Actually  we are having ES+ cards (on 7609) and we are using multiple groups(say  350 vrrp groups) running on the router . the routers are connected as router 1>>> mux(which is working as switches)>>> router2

my questing are

1.  does their will be "multicast packets" (for VRRP/HSRP group) "from backup  router to Master router", when in stable state( ie when Master and  backup are already chosen) , or the packet from backup to master should  be unicast.I know for sure, the packet from master to back is multicast packets denstination to Multicast IP packet and To MAC address.I am not sure but I think from backup to master it should be multicast

2. what is frequency of these packets( from backup to master)

3.  As i have multiper group on a single interface ( we are using q-in-q),  when the connectivity from router's is broken, then does all the groups  will muticast their active roll in the lan sengment "at once" or it will  be in a groups say 100 groups at once, and after few ms few 100's and  sone ( as is on OSPF or RIP)

we are in between troubleshooting I hope we get the ans( Actul problem we are seeing in the router's that we have 2 ports on active routers and 2 ports on standby router , but we are not seeing muticast on 1 port on standby router where as all other 3 ports are seeing multicast packets) [code]

I cannot find anything on how to set this up on the internet. I found a PDF explaining the 4 different ways you can track objects but nothing more.

Is this service still supported in the newest versions?

Cisco WAN :: IP SLA And Object Tracking For Default Route On Nexus 7010

Mar 18, 2013

We have a Nexus 7010 running version 6.1(2).

I'd like to use IP SLAs and object tracking to define static routes for specific source/destination traffic across some WAN links we have.  I've done this in IOS and it's worked fantastically, but I've not found where/how to do this on the Nexus 7010 platform (or any Nexus platform) as of yet.  I could have sworn that this was going to be introduced in the 6.x code?  Below is an example of how we do this in the IOS world:

track 11 ip sla 1 reachability
delay down 15 up 15
ip sla 1

[Code]....

Esentially this gives us the option of using a "failover" default route.  I've attached a basic diagram to explain what we are trying to do with IP SLAs and object checking.  The tracking should be configured against an SLA that uses icmp and the static routes should be configured against the tracking.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 - Multiple Static Route Tracking

May 15, 2013

I am trying to set up my ASA5510 the fail over of ISP when it can't ping three different IP. I create three different tracking to three different IP using sla monitor & track rtr. But when I do

   route isp2  0 0  yy.yy.yy.yy  50
   route isp1  0 0  xx.xx.xx.xx  31  track 1
   route isp1  0 0  xx.xx.xx.xx  32  track 2
   route isp1  0 0  xx.xx.xx.xx  33  track 3

the last route will replace the previous two and only the last route command takes effect. Is there anyway I can set up the fail over to ISP2 only when it can't ping three different IP from ISP1?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Static Route Tracking On Catalyst 3560G?

I am trying to implement static route tracking on  a Catalyst 3560G ( WS-C3560G-48PS, IOS version 12.2(35)SE5 and SW image C3560-IPBASE-M). The configuration is as follows:

track 101 rtr 1 reachability
!
rtr 1
type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho 10.199.101.2
rtr schedule 1 life forever start-time now
!
IP address 10.199.101.2 is reachable via ICMP (its the next-hop router).

The static routes configured are the following:

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.199.101.2 track 101
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.200.52.1 20

But only the secondary route(ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.200.52.1 20) its being installed on the routing table by the switch.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASR 1001 - Trace Route / HSRP / VRF

Mar 24, 2013

when i make a trace route on an ASR 1001 router to 172.23.30.7 I get the following output:

VRF info: (vrf in name/id, vrf out name/id)
  1 192.168.99.192 0 msec
    192.168.99.191 1 msec
    192.168.99.192 0 msec
  2 172.23.30.243 1 msec 1 msec 1 msec
  3 172.23.30.7 1 msec 1 msec 1 msec

Is there a loop between 192.168.99.191 and .192 (this are two routers with hsrp .190) or is this normal behavior when using trace route on an asr 1001?

Cisco WAN :: Nexus 7010 - Advertise Default Route Based On HSRP State

Sep 24, 2012

I've got two Nexus 7010's running HSRP north bound to a pair of ASA's, and BGP south bound to four 6509's. Is it possible to advertise default route to BGP neighbor (or prefer it via MED), only if the node is HSRP-active?

Essentially the goal is to create symmetry for inbound/outbound traffic. Only way I can think of so far is via an EEM script, so that when it sees  HSRP go active via syslog, it would kick off an action to remove ASN prepend,  or reduce MED, and the opposite if HSRP goes standby.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - HSRP Setup / S2 Active And Route Traffic From Internet To Client?

Jan 14, 2012

i have a strange issue with an HSRP Setup. I  have two (S1+S2) 3560 as Core/Distribution Layer. Inter-vlan routing are  enabled on both Switches. S1 and S2 are connected with an ether channel  over four fibre ports. S3 -S5 are the (L2) access layer.

Gi0/1 on S1 and S2 are L3 ports, connect to a Linux Firewall.

HSRP is enabled, S1 is the active router and the STP root bridge.

But, my monitoring via cacti show me, that the Gi0/1 on S2 is active, too! But it should not be active? Only if S1 fails, should S2 the active switch.A client from the access ports on S3 - 5 gets traffic from the Internet via Gi0/1 from S2. Gi0/1 on S1 is active too, but will send mostly traffic to the Internet. Why is S2 active and why route it traffic from the Internet to the client?

I've enabled antispoof on all interfaces on asa 5510.If you start a traceroute to a network on the default route, everything works, since replies comes to an interface with route 0.0.0.0/0 defined. If you start a tracer route to a network that is NOT on the default route (let's assume coporate MPLS), you only get response from first carrier router, the other are discarded because of anti spoof violation.

I have ICMP inspection and icmp-error inspection enabled.

How To Do Packet Tracking

I have been playing with Wireshark for a little bit only analyzing my packets but now I want to try collecting a couple of computers on my network. I know there is a little service that I can run with WinPcap but I am pretty sure there is a way to do it through the settings on my switches but i'm not sure what setting I need to use. I have 4 switches 2x Netgear GS724TS 2x Netgear GS724TR. I'm not sure what feature needs to be used to do what I want. All the switches can do SNMP and LLDP and I think it is one of these I need to use but not sure switch one to use.

Cisco WAN :: AS5300 Interface Tracking And IP SLA

Jul 15, 2012

I have a dual connection from two service providers ( provider A & Provider B).In my internal network,  I have two Vlans (vlan10 & vlan 20).My requirement is users belonging to vlan10 should go via ISP A and for vlan 20, it should go via ISP B.So, for that purpose, I configured HSRP along with intervlan routing and that worked quite fine. I have two Cisco AS5300 routing connecting to both ISPs and they are terminated to a common switch Cisco2950.All are in ethernet technology, serial technology has not been used. "IP SLA" command is not supported in CiscoAS5300.I configured the interface tracking command for HSRP as well.

When one link goes down then it doesn't fail over and go through another link. To fail over, I should manually remove the external link connecting to the router. And another thing is, if i pulled the cable connecting to the internal network then it fails over. "IP SLA" command is not supported in CiscoAS5300.I am trying to implement a failover using HSRP in Cisco AS5300 but the interface tracking is not decreasing the priority value when the connection is lost with the ISP and IP SLA is also not supported. So, in this case what can i do to make a perfect failover for the network ?

Since LMS 4.0.1, UT should be supported on these devices. When adding the Nexus devices to DCR, provide the netadmin SNMP RO credential. When other SNMP RO credential is provided, user tracking will not collect end host data.I think I have this setup correctly as the device center test passes when cehcking snmp ro credentials. Our 7010s are running NX-OS 5.0(3) - earlier than the recommended version - might that cause issues? We are not using VRFs other than the default and management.

                               internal network

Both outside interfaces of 7204 gateways are connecting to 7609 with different public ip block. I used VRRP for my internal nework and failover have been tested working.

Even tried to remove link of 7204-A and 7609, the failover works perfect. If I shutdown/ remove the link between my 4507R-E and 7204-A (primary gw_higher vrrp priority), vrrp redundancy/failover still works, but pings from internal network to internet is only 50% success....alternate 4 ping reply and 4 time out.

Cisco :: LMS 4.1 User Tracking Not Sortable?

Nov 27, 2011

in LMS 4.1, under Monitor->Identity Dashboard, i have "user tracking summary" as a portlet, which tells me i have ~ 17,000 users.  when i click the report, it pops up a screen that shows mac address, ip address, hostname, subnet, etc.

If i try to do ANY filtering, it returns 0 records.  this could be from a specific IP, mac address, device name, or subnet.  i have tried every type of record.  every filter i attempt always ends with 0 records returned, even though in the unfiltered list they show up.  It would be problematic to manually sort through 17,000 users looking for the particular records i need without the ability to use the filter.

how to filter the User Tracking report? is there some feature in LMS i don't own or have enabled to allow this filtering?

Cisco :: LMS 4.0.1 And User Tracking With SNMP V3

Nov 4, 2011

I've another problem with our new LMS 4.0.1.We manage our devices with SNMP v3 but the user tracking don't want to work flawlessly.I've attached an example from our SNMP configuration. Basicly it's the same in our devices.

1st the problem was that no matter what I did the User tracking didn't want to find any host. I left it and worked on something else. After 2 weeks suddenly appeard couple of thousand end host.As earlier (LMS 2.6 or 3.2 with snmp v2) it is the same that LMS cannot differentiate normal end host and IP Phones although we have several thousand from both. But this is only one problem. The other is that there are switches with the same IOS and SNMP configuration and from one I get the UT data and from another one I didn't get anything. Only from some 4506 (aprox. 12-15) and 6506 (2) works and we have 20+ 4506 and 10+ 6506. Not to mention the other switches (couple of houndred 2960 and 3750).
