Cisco Wireless :: Use Location Tracking Feature Within WLC 4400s?
Sep 6, 2011
I have 2 Cisco WLC 4400's connected to a WCS. I want to use this Location Tracking feature within the WLC 4400s so that i can track movement of particular network devices throughout my facility. I cannot find anything on how to set this up on the internet. I found a PDF explaining the 4 different ways you can track objects but nothing more.
Is this service still supported in the newest versions?

I am involved in a project that wants to implement location based services using the WLAN to track users has they move around the estate. I have been conducting a survey using ESS and Air Magnet and both have difficulty in placing APs when the ceiling height goes above 4.0m I am using cisco 1140n APs to get signal readings, but does location tracking start to breakdown once the AP is at a significant height of 4-6m

I have a customer that have trouble with the update of the position of a client. Even if the clients walks across the whole building, the client will stay at the same place for several minutes. Is there any way to tune the refresh rate? When I push the load button in the map, the clients position will refresh, or it did when I was on the site, now they just test with an application.
The setup:
WiSM 7.0.220
WCS 7.0.220
MSE 7.0.220
They use the API for MSE to get the location information to the external application, and that will show the information on a cisco 7925 IP phone.know a way to increasing the refresh rate?

I downloaded and upgraded my router to the 3.0.03 firmware. Downloaded the bin file, saved the config, upgraded firmware, reset router and restored configuration. Everything went ok but router still shows 3.0.02 firmware. ?I have a camera system on the network routed through two opened ports on the router. Everything works fine. The camera system does not store any logs relative to remote access. I would like to log any incoming traffic on the camera open ports. Is there a way to do this on this router?

We have 2 5508 WLC's on site (5508-1 & 5508-2) and at the completion of this project we will have around 150 access points. We are also using WCS. 5508-1 is set as the primary/master controller. 5508-2 is the secondary controller, serves as backup if/when 5508-1 fails. All LAPs connect to 5508-1 by default, so 5508-2 is basically sitting there doing nothing. Is this the best way to take advantage of the resources that are available? Would wireless clients see improved performance if the access points were split between the two controllers? If we do split LAPs between the controllers should I make sure that all of the LAPs on a particular floor are connected to the same controller or does that matter?

The compatibility matrix shows no support for a Location Appliance 2700 for any version 7.0.x.x for WCS and WLC. However, I did see a thread here where a v6.0.x.0 had compatibility. v6.0.202.0 is MD. Is it compatible with v7 WCS and WLC?

I will be staying at a rental property that has ethernet cable & modem. If I bring my E4200 v2 router from home & connect it to their modem, will my Toshiba 16GB Thrive be able to access the internet via WiFi? When I initially set up the router, I ran the router CD on my laptop, and the Thrive automatically accessed the internet. Will the Thrive automatically do the same when I connect the router at the new location. There is no computer there to run the router software. Will the the network be secured as it is at home? Same network name & password?

I have a existing wireless setup of 4400 WLC with some AP's connected remotely, now i am migrating the whole setup to the new WLC 5500. All the AP has been registered to the new WLC 5500 except the remote location AP's.As there was no option of giving IP address in GUI of the controller in 4400 WLC, i have changed the controller name and restarted the AP, but even though it is going back to the old controller.

Using win7 64 bit 1 pc upstairs and laptop down stairs,no need for file or printer sharing so its disabled. Is it right that the public location setting is the safest setting with the sharing option disabled, and that wpa etc is not used, If you know you won’t need to share files or printers, the safest choice is public network.

I have a remote site that has an AP running in H-REAP mode which connects over our MPLS cloud to a WLC, which has one interface on the "inside" network and one on our DMZ. The remote AP in H-REAP mode currently only runs our Guest SSID, but now I need to established an isolated VLAN.
Two of the hosts on this isolated VLAN, which is need to support some conference room devices, need to run on wireless and communicate with two devices on the same VLAN that are hard-wired to the switch.
Getting the wireless devices to connect remotely is easy enough by setting up an SSID that uses an IP subnet which one of the WLC's interfaces actually connects to...but can I do that for a completely remote IP subnet (i.e. one that the WLC does NOT physically connect to?). I'm not sure and I'm wondering whether that's the purpose of the "Remote LAN" feature...which is a very new feature.

Has used the "Planned AP association" feature in WCS 7 planning mode? I haven't been able to find any documentation on it, but I was hoping that it allowed you to map your planning AP's and locations to freshly deployed AP's and place them on the floorplan when doing a synchronize, but I can't get it to complete successfully.

The Clean Air feature does not seem to work, however. "No information is available because CleanAir is disabled or otherwise not available for this radio. If no information is available and CleanAir is enabled then you can try rebooting the AP XXXX".The thing is that CleanAir is enabled on this AP.
