Cisco WAN :: Filtering Outbound Routes In OSPF (Catalyst 4500 IOS XR)

We are redistributing routes from BGP to OSPF and we want to filter out some of this routes from the OSPF proccess to be announced to neightbours.We want to announce some networks from ASR#1 to Catalyst. We are redistributing them from BGP to OSPF Area 0. Then, to prevent loops in the topology, these routes have to be filtered out from been redistributed from Area 0 to Area 1 in the Catalyst, so Enterasys appliances don't install those routes through OSPF but to point them out through default route to ASR#2.Is it possible with only one OSPF proccess or we have to separate OSPF in two proccess to redistribute between them?

I just want to know how many ospf routes a catalyst 3740 support ?The cisco doc or datasheets doesn't answer this clearly. Because there is only a statement "unicast routes"!? Does this means all unicast routes (eigrp, ospf....static)If so, there is a statement for about 10k routes ?

How can I filter outbound sys log messages, so they include only configuration changes messages..
 
On Cisco 2900 I used:
 
logging discriminator CFG LOG msg- body includes "PARSER" | "CONFIG"
 
logging host x.x.x.x discriminator CFG LOG
 
logging x.x.x.x
 
How can I do the same on 4507? This feature on Cisco routers is called "Reliable Delivery and Filtering for Sys log" and is available for 12.4(11)T  and 12.2(33)SRB (7600) . I am running Version 12.2(25)EWA6 on my Catalyst, so it is not available.
 
The software I am using is a simple solar winds sys log server.

Cisco WAN :: AS 300 Why Redistribution From OSPF To BGP Didn't Advertise O E2 Routes

I am facing two issues in BGP both the topology and Config files.Because the link between Vail and Telluride runs iBGP, both routers will learn about the networks in AS 300 and AS 400 through native BGP only and both AS's do reach each other. Both routers are also running OSPF with Aspen and BGP routes are redistributed into OSPF domain. Now, Aspen knows about the networks in AS 300 and AS 400. Now suppose the link between Vail and Telluride fails, both AS 300 and AS 400 can't reach each other anymore. The only solution to this is to redistribute OSPF routes to BGP on Vail and Telluride. But when i did this, only routes with "O" learned by Tahoe and Alta. In other words, Tahoe sees only 192.168.1.220, 192.168.1.196 and Alta sees only the same routes. Why the redistribution from OSPF to BGP didn't advertise the O E2 routes?
 
This actually was discussed before but i still can't get it. It is not an actual issue.It is about "Syncronization". I know that we've said many times to turn on Sync. when we do redistribution from BGP to an IGP to make sure that the routes are installed correctly in the IGP routing table. However, as you notice in the configuration, i didn't enable Sync. on Vail and Telluride for a long time and redistribution still works fine.

How can I make sure R11 is able to get the OSPF routes of all the areas. Make sure area-278 does not receive any ospf routes from other areas as well as from ASBR routes from other areas. At the same tim, area-278 should be able send successfully RIP routes that we receive from R2 to backbone area.

I have a Cisco 2620XM Router, running ver. 12.2 (7r). I have OSPF connected, however the OSPF routes are not populating in the sh ip route display. The  neighbor relationship is established. The sh ip ospf database does display the other routers running ospf, however only connected (C) and static (S) routes appear.

I am observing some strange behaviour related to the routing table, almost all external routes and some inter-area routes are getting refreshed every 10 seconds.
 
I am getting more than 1000 entries after running 'sh ip route | i 00:00:0', these external routes are being advertised by a neighbor 6500 which redistributing these static routes.
 
Platform is 6500 with SUP-720

We have multiple sites that are linked via MPLS (L3) circuits. We have good size circuits for Internet at two main sites (HQ and QC) and smaller sites come to HQ site to go to internet. We are running ospf (Cisco L3 switches) with service provider (ME3400) at these two main sites and service provider then redistributes routes back into MPLS via BGP and then smaller sites ME3400 learn these routes. i am injecting default routes from HQ and QC, but Telco is only redistributing default from HQ. So large pipe Internet at QC is not being used effeciently. Also if MPLS at HQ fails, then we are told, we need to call Telco and they will make change in their network to now start distributing default from QC.it was my understanding that telco can use BGP communities and advertize one default as prefered and second with higher cost, so that failover can occur automatically. And that they can also set up so that west cost sites use HQ and east cost sites can use QC for going to internet, but they say it is not possible.it the least, can I do something like this at my end for failover for internet, in case MPLS at HQ goes down (soon we will be setting up a point to point VPN tunnel between HQ and QC so that MPLS failure at HQ will trigger advertisement of HQ routes over tunnel via QC into MPLS, so other sites can then come to HQ thru QC over this tunnel. At QC Cisco router (to detect loss of default route from HQ and then start advertizing default from QC)

I want to configure accesslists on my Catalyst 3750X-switches to protect different VLANs/networks. Any best-practices about inbound versus outbound accesslists? In my head it is more readable and easier to understand the config when accesslists are assigned outbound on the VLAN to protect instead of assigning them inbound on all possible source-VLANs. But of course, from a performance point-of-view it is better to use inbound access-lists to avoid un-necessary routing etc.

i'd like to configure OSPF on a Catalyst 6503 IOS 12.2.17.i habe an Gi1/9 with the ip address 192.168.97.30/24 and a VLAN 19 with the IP Address 192.168.19.0/24.I configured OSPF like this

on the ospf peer is see that the adjaceny is established but i don't get the routes for the 192.168.19.0 network i checked the ip ospf interface vlan 19; i got ospf is not enabled on the interface then i tried to configure

int vlan 19
ip ospf 1 area 10.5.0.0
 
but it does not access ip ospf 1

I'm trying to work out if I need to order the "IP services" image for a couple of C3750-X.  I need to run OSPF on these switches, but find the IOS image requirements on Cisco contradict.
 
At the top of the data sheet it says: • Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) in IP Base image

On the product info page it says: IP Base: Enterprise Access Layer 3 Switching, including OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) for routed access 
 
But in lots of other places it says you need 'IP services' for OSPF.
  
As the IP services IOS is quite a bit more expensive I would like to avoid buying it. What image do I need to run OSPF?

I have a strange issue with 4500 E chassis loaded with SUP 7L-E which always remains in ORANGE LED status, also the uplink ports interface is down and the line protocol is down  but when i execute the command sh int gig1/5 it show me the media type sfp but there is no red laser light seen in the sfp transiever,The below command is configured for the uplink gig port on the SUP engine.hw-module uplink select gigabitethernet?

I am trying to setup the WOL for our enterprise. We have a C4500 setup with mutliple Vlans. We are using Microsoft SCCM server to wake up workstations for security update. The workstations are on vlan190 and the Microsoft server is on vlan 441

I've two Cisco 4500 running as core switches for huge and complex network. The two 4500 are going to act as dhcp server for several subnets. The easiest solution would be to split each DHCP pool  in two, and assign the first half of the pool to one of the core switch and  the second half of the pool to the second core switch. This would be a partial solution since if one of the two fails, the second core switch would not have enough dhcp leases available for all the devices connected for each subnet.For such a reason, I'm wondering if it the 4500 switches support a stateful redundant DHCP servers, so that the two switches can synchronize their DHCP lease tables. If this feature is available, I could define the same pools for both the switches without the risk of having duplicate ip addresses within the network.

We have a Switch Catalyst 4500, model WS-C4510R+E, with 2 Supervisors, models V-10GE, which is showing high CPU values all times.When this occures, the switch shows 95-100% for total cpu for a few hours at a time.show proccesses cpu shows process Cat4k Mgmt LoPri with an unusual cpu value of 56% The show platform heath command gave me a high reading for K2L2 Address Table R which is curently 9,45% but the last hour is around a 20% average CPU ?[URL] what the process K2L2 Address Table R means and what could be the cause of this peak?

is it possible to run a Catalyst 4500 as pure Layer 2 Switch, i.e. disabling "ip routing", but still managing the switch via Fa1, i.e. the defautl mgmtVrf vrf ?I tried the following:

I was not able to reach the Switch even from the same subnet. Only after enabling ip routing I could manage the Switch. I haven't found any command to set ip default-gateway for a vrf. Any workaround to keep routing disabled, but still manageable via VRF?

I was reading the documentation of the Catalyst 4500-X for creating VSS and MEC (multichassis etherchannel).In the VSS specific part, it's written"Cisco Release IOS XE 3.4.0SG does not support Layer 3 MEC".

Can I still use VlanX interfaces ad route through them?In my setup I only have IP addresses assigned to vlanX interfaces (with some VRF-lite magic)[code] Does that sentence only mean that I can't have IP assigned directly to the MEC?

If I'm upgrading dual redundant power supplies in a Catalyst 4507 from 1000W (data) to 1400W (data), can it be done without taking the switch through a power cycle? I'm guessing no as I read that the switch will not recognize a 1400W PSU in bay 2 if there is still an original 1000W PSU in bay 1.

I just received a new 4510R+E switch with CAT4500e SUP7e Universal Image cat4500e-universal.spa03.01.01.sg.150-1.x01.bin software imag with License Level ipbase. We specified in the order to receive CAT4500e Universal Crypto Image with License Level ipbase. I have since requested and received the latest CAT4500e Univeral Crypto Image cat4500e-universalk9-spa.03.04.00.sg.151-2.sg.bin. Is there anything other that just installing the new image that must be done to allow me to use the Crypto Image? Would this upgrade do anything to change my License Level ipbase?
