Is it possible to connect a PC and Laptop together to network share, using a dial up USB dongle plugged in to either computer. I have a network connection cable if needed, but is it possible and how?

I'm having an irritating problem with an internet USB dongle in my new computer. I connected the dongle to a working USB port where the computer installed the drives/program that existed on the dongle. However, when I start the program it says no device found. I tried pulling out the USB and then plugging it back into the USB port whereas the computer first gives me a "pling" sound that it has detected the device and immediatly after that sad sound that says the device has been pulled out even though it's still securely in the USB slot[CODE]

It is on a wifi but I tried it at a local wifi spot & wont hook up there either , it shows a good wifi connection at both places . I checked the drivers, and i am not sure if im missing any. There is a yellow mark on my network controller, but there is no description or details for it. Today I took out my old HP zd8228ea and tried to fix it. I inserted the XP home cd and got it running. Now I'm trying to get it on my wi-fi connection. Im pretty sure it has a wi-fi chip, though im not sure how to tell. And under my connections, it doesnt show wireless connection.

I got a new isp today and it worked with a new modem connected with a wire .. When I connected the router it wouldn't find the network so i connected the modem again with just the wire and it still won't go online.

The router is a Sagem provided by my ISP (Sky). The wireless connection works fine on my MacBook, and various other devices connect no problem with the security key.
However, his laptop (Windows Vista) will not connect wirelessly. After entering the password, it says it can't connect because it 'times out' (we are obviously entering the password immediately with no delay). It connects fine with an ethernet cable. It will also connect to an unsecured wireless network we can pick up.
The security setup is WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption, and we've made sure he is using these settings.
If it might be important, he has just moved here, and previously his laptop was connected to another Sky router with no problems.
