This is a problem i had after i reinstalled windows vista on my laptop. I recently reinstalled windows vista onto a laptop. The laptop is unable to find the router. I checked the drivers, and i am not sure if im missing any. There is a yellow mark on my network controller, but there is no description or details for it. The internet works while connected to an etherent cable directly to my router. I went to the manufacture website (dell), and downloaded/updated the drivers. I ran PC diagnostics and the wireless still doesn't work.
I have a linksys system WRT54G at home. I had no problems with the Linksys router until about a month ago when I decided to make it a secure network. I run three computers of the wireless router (1 desktp and 2 laptops) Since making the wireless network secure I can not connect with my business laptop IBM Thinkpad X40, but thother e computers work just fine.
I have a netgear router. I have my kindle, 2 laptops, and a net book that are on the network. I bought my husband a "new" laptop. It will not accept the password in alphabet form.
I just got a linksys wireless adapter for my pc, but the cd drive won't read the setup disc. Is there a way to hook the laptop to the pc and load the program?
My problem is my laptop is not connecting to the only network in my home and I can connect to all other wireless networks around. Also there is no problem with the router/modem coz all my room mates can connect and access internet wireless and also through Ethernet.Even I'm able to connect to the home network using Ethernet but not wireless. Strange but true!
connect my partner's laptop to my wireless network?
The router is a Sagem provided by my ISP (Sky). The wireless connection works fine on my MacBook, and various other devices connect no problem with the security key.
However, his laptop (Windows Vista) will not connect wirelessly. After entering the password, it says it can't connect because it 'times out' (we are obviously entering the password immediately with no delay). It connects fine with an ethernet cable. It will also connect to an unsecured wireless network we can pick up.
The security setup is WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption, and we've made sure he is using these settings.
If it might be important, he has just moved here, and previously his laptop was connected to another Sky router with no problems.
My wireless connection will only let me connect one laptop at a time using the wlan cable connected it wont work without it.I Had no problems previously with it connecting to the wireless without having the cable connected so im stubbed.
my Acer laptop lost connection to my wireless router - had wireless component replaced but still won't connect. Will connect to other wireless sites. No problem with other 2 laptops connecting to my wireless
I'm trying to connect my XP laptop to a home wireless network and I keep getting the following error once I enter in the passcode provided by my ISP:The network passcode needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.I have an iphone, 3 ipads, one windows 7 pc and a mac connected to the network with no problems. The password provided by the ISP is 25 characters (letters and numbers). I would hate to have to change the password on all my devices for one Windows XP laptop. I've called Netgear who make the wireless router and they said the only solution was to change the password for all devices.
I have a wireless network at home but my laptop does not connect to it. The network works as my iPhone connects to it az well as my PS3. The laptop finds the network and has full bars for connectivity but it is only on a local network. I don't have a P.C in the home, the only time I can go online is when the laptop is plugged in. My laptop operates with vista.
Basically, my laptop won't connect to my wireless network, it just stopped connecting yesterday for no apparent reason, the wifi works with my phones and other laptop but not my laptop. I restarted my router, laptop did a system restore and factory restore but no luck. here are specs from ipcongif

At home i have a desktop Pc connected to the internet via ethernet, to a bt homehub, on the same homehub i also have a laptop connected to it but using the wireless connection. Both pcs are using windows 7.
I`m trying to file share between these 2 computers using a homegroup, but neither recognises another homegroup on their network. Is this because i`m not using the same connection method ( wirelss and wired) ? Even though both connections are going through the same Hub? I`ve tried renaming the homegroups on both pcs to the same name to see if that works, but it seems both pcs are on different networks. clear lack of pc intelligence, networking not really my thing.
When I try to connect to the internet via a wireless connection, I select the connection I want and it says it's connected.
However when I go to the wireless connection properties it is sending but not receiving and it won't connect to the internet. I went to the CMD and typed in IPCONFIG and get the message saying my "Media Not Connected."
I have pushed the green button on the router so my laptop can pick up the settings but it still won't connect. Also, I took my laptop to my friends house and was able to connect on their wireless.
after recently moving out of my parents house to go to university, my laptop has stopped connecting properly to my wireless network at my parents house. It connects, but says that I either have no internet access or limited access. This does not happen to any other device connecting to the network, and my laptop doesnt have trouble connecting to any other wireless network.
I have an acer laptop with Windows Vista. Every time i want to the internet it doesn't it keeps saying Local Only and it does it with anything other wireless network.
my hp laptop suddenly will not connect to our wireless router. It was fine but now it just stopped connecting. It says wireless connections are available but will not connect to ours. My husbands laptop has not been affected. We have tried everything...resetting the router (multiple times), reinstalling the router. I have not tried to connect anywhere else yet but that is something I am going to try today. What could have happened to the laptop for it to suddenly stop connecting?
My laptop all of a sudden stopped connecting to my wireless network. It was fine before. now it doesn't even find my network or any other networks in the area (it used to before). When i click on the search for available networks it shows "HP Computer Sharing Network".
My laptop will not connect to the internet. We are using a wireless router and have never had a problem before, it works if you plug the ethernet into it but otherwise it says no network available.
My laptop (Windows 7) has problems connecting the the wireless network at my school. I can connect fine at home. When I get to school, my laptop picks up the internet - there is internet connection/wireless. But I cannot access the internet after I open the web browser. As a school policy, as soon as the browser is open, it is directed automatically to a "Web Authentication" page. But my laptop does not allow it to connect to that page.
I asked the IT technician at school and he said that there is a problem with the DNS connecting automatically. He changed the settings to do so, but when he opens the network protocol again, the DNS is changed back to a preferred DNS number and it will not allow me to automatically pick up the DNS when I am at school. (Once again, it works fine at home).
I recently upgraded from a DI-624 to DIR-655. My wife's vista laptop connects without a problem, but neither my work XP laptop nor my home xp machine will connect wirelessly.
I did not have any problem with the DI-624.I went through my wife's laptop network settings and made sure the XP machine was the same.
Just got an HDTV, has a load of fancy internet stuff, but only has a wired connection and I can't put my router in this room, and would rather not have to run a wire up from downstairs.
I'm guessing there is a way of connecting to the wireless on my laptop in this room, connect the laptop to the tv via an ethernet cabe, and bridge the connections or something so that my tv gets the internet from the laptop. That's gotta be possible, no? When I try it tho, the connections bridge, but the tv says "Gateway is not connected, gateway address wrong or unavailable". Using auto IP.
Have three computers ( 2 are XP one is vista) connected via wireless router one computer is considered a host computer sitting on a docking station which has the printers connected to it. In the beginning once everything was connected we could print from any computer wireless, then one day we had a power outage and for some reason we can only print from the host computer. How to get the other computers back online to print. All computers are still able to connect to the internet via wireless router (Linksys E1000) but not able to print except the host which is directly connected to the printers.
I have updated drivers for my Toshiba laptop and it wont connect to wifi? why is it so?I had problem with mini port driver but even after updating the driver it is not working. I can see the icon of wifi and the connection options but when I try to it says "connection was unsuccessful this computer currently has limited connectivity to Hostel_06".
I have a user with a Mecer laptop using Windows 7. For some reason the laptop isnt working correctly when connecting to wireless. When I choose auto IP settings it doesnt even want to connect to the wireless access point (and gives the laptop some strange ip that isnt even on the range of the network), when I enter IP settings manually it connects but still cant access the internet. When I take another laptop with Windows XP, it connects to the wireless and can access the internet NO problem with auto IP settings.
I work in a mall and we have a strong unsecured wireless signal for "courtesy internet. If I connect to it with my laptop or iphone it says that I am connected, but I cannot access anything.Troubleshooting the network has not done anything.
Whenever i connect a particular acer laptop to the internet at work via the wireless, internet access is lost after a period that ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour and i have to reboot the VSAT modem to restore internet connectivity. This cycle of rebooting the vsat modem to restore internet access goes on and on until the problematic laptop is powered off.Initially i thought the problem was with the modem since i always had to restart it, but i noticed that if i didnt take that laptop to work, internet access stayed up the whole day.The acer laptop is enabled for DHCP and connects to a cisco wireless acess point that is connected to a cisco 2960 series switch which is in turn connected to the VSAT modem.
My wife has a COBY 10" netbook running Windows X home SP3., we use a NETGEAR N150 Wireless Router and for some time now, whether she boots from a cold startup or "wakes" this laptop, it has lost the network connection. It gets the "Wireless networks detected" message, sees our Security-enabled wireless network, but instead of automatically connecting, it always asks for the network key. I have a second laptop (Toshiba Qosmio) that I only use some othe time, primarily for vacations, and when I turn this on it always connects right to the network, even if we've been away and connected to a hotel network. I never have to use the key for our home network once I get back home.
She's getting pretty fed up having to constantly put in the network key on the COBY, this should be a "set it once" and it should remember it should it not? I'm sure it used to, have I missed something?
I have a compaq laptop running Vista. We recently had our Uverse wireless router/modem replaced. Now my laptop will not connect to the internet. The laptop connects to the router but shows up as local connection only. Uverse tried all kinds of differant things to no avail. The laptop will hookup with a USB modem but I would like to get it back to how it was before.
