I have a compaq laptop running Vista. We recently had our Uverse wireless router/modem replaced. Now my laptop will not connect to the internet. The laptop connects to the router but shows up as local connection only. Uverse tried all kinds of differant things to no avail. The laptop will hookup with a USB modem but I would like to get it back to how it was before.

The 3801 currently feeds a wired lan through three 16 and 8 port switches, and feeds way too many wireless users too. Plus, the 3801 also feeds the VOIP phone system and TV (non HD). I now know the 3801 has a max of 10 or 12 IP addresses that it can handle (where was that little detail in the AT&T material?). The 1701 can and has fed more than 50 wireless and wired connections easily for years. So, what needs to be done make the 1701 feed the wired and wireless lan from the 3801 gateway, as well as let the 3801 continue to feed the VOIP, TV, and some of the wireless lan needs at the same time?

I can connect fine at home.When I get to school, my laptop picks up the internet - there is internet connection/wireless. But I cannot access the internet after I open the web browser. As a school policy, as soon as the browser is open, it is directed automatically to a "Web Authentication" page. But my laptop does not allow it to connect to that page.
I asked the IT technician at school and he said that there is a problem with the DNS connecting automatically. He changed the settings to do so, but when he opens the network protocol again, the DNS is changed back to a preferred DNS number and it will not allow me to automatically pick up the DNS when I am at school. (Once again, it works fine at home).

I'm guessing there is a way of connecting to the wireless on my laptop in this room, connect the laptop to the tv via an ethernet cabe, and bridge the connections or something so that my tv gets the internet from the laptop. That's gotta be possible, no? When I try it tho, the connections bridge, but the tv says "Gateway is not connected, gateway address wrong or unavailable". Using auto IP.
Whenever i connect a particular acer laptop to the internet at work via the wireless, internet access is lost after a period that ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour and i have to reboot the VSAT modem to restore internet connectivity. This cycle of rebooting the vsat modem to restore internet access goes on and on until the problematic laptop is powered off.Initially i thought the problem was with the modem since i always had to restart it, but i noticed that if i didnt take that laptop to work, internet access stayed up the whole day.The acer laptop is enabled for DHCP and connects to a cisco wireless acess point that is connected to a cisco 2960 series switch which is in turn connected to the VSAT modem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Linksys EA 4500.I set up the wifi properly, with laptops, tablets, smartphones and printer. The wifi network worked fine for a couple of days.But now one of the laptop "refuses" to see the Linksys wifi network. The other devices are still connected and running regularly.
The notebook that does not connect anymore is an ACER 5740DG with an Atheros Network adapter and Windows 7 installed. This notebook is otherwise running fine.At the beginning it was connecting ok and we never had any problem at all with the previous router Belkin_N+_7991AC, that I changed just for speed.
Now the Linksys network is simply not visible to such notebook in the "Available Connections List" that I get clicking on the WiFi icon in the bottom right, while a number of other wifi networks (not mine) are clearly visible. Of course I restarted the notebook properly. For one time I got the visibility of the Linksys, I entered the password and then it was not possible to see the network anymore.No error message from Smart WiFi software.
I have been trying to connect to my 2Wire Uverse wireless router and it not going well. I had it connected and for other reasons I went into the router setup and disabled wireless, did nothing else. When I enabled wireless again (and did nothing else) I could not connect my Win 7 computer. Everything else connects just fine so I know it's not the router but this Win 7 computer.When I click on the connections icon it shows me all the available wireless networks and the Uverse show but has a red X on it and the popup says something to the effect it's trying to connect but the connections are not the same as are in the profile or the info.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLast week I purchased the E4200 and for simplicity, I configured it with basic settings using Cisco Connect. Today, I went into the web interface. The only thing I did was review settings and get the Routers PIN (it appears that Intel Chipset cards on Windows requires this PIN?) Close the browser (did not save any settings) and now I am completely locked out of the device. Cannot connect does not accept the wireless password. I hard reset the device, ran through the wizard. Everything was working again. Launch the browser and connected to the device closing window and balm?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI am using my wireless adapter..a Linksys AE1000..to connect to a friend's ATT U-Verse high speed internet for a few weeks. Due to a petty argument with his girlfriend..I overheard her and her friend and discovered that she had logged into the Uverse router/modem (192.168.1.254), which shows all devices that are connected. On this page it has links to access files for each device. Clicking on that, she was able to read all my files. Nothing to hide, I just don't like snoopers and even wonder if she could change settings or do something to mess up my computer. I cannot figure out how to block access by her Uverse thru my Linksys wireless adapter.
I normally do not allow any sort of file sharing and everywhere I have looked on my PC, nothing is enabled to file share or remote desktop share or anything like that. I'm not a total noob but have no clue if and how I can change this on my end so that she cannot get into my PC while I'm connected to their internet. Their router/modem is a 3800HGV-B.

When i tried to assign the PC it gets disconnected from Internet.The problem is : i want to access the PCs through internet from a Laptop. When I ping the Public IP of that lan network, it works. But when i use the Remote Desktop to connect to the PC or when i use the DOS command NET USE x: \IPaddressharename /USER:username password - It doesn't work. I usually only have an old Toshiba Satelite on the network, which runs G IIRC.I had the network setup as open without a password (I don't really have any neighbors nearbye) however when a new computer tries to get on my network, I usually have to hit the 'sync' or w/e button on the router for the computer to get on. I'm happy with that setup, and it seems to have been working fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop ( A Samsung NP550P5C-S02AU running windows 7 home premium) is not connecting to the modem (which is a D-link DSL-2740B-F1) For the past few weeks I have been able to fix this by resetting the modem/restarting the laptop and I also did a full restore on the laptop as well as completely reset the modem and updated the firmware. I've also tried two different wireless security settings, WPA and WPA2 neither of which have fixed the problem (though surprisingly it did work for a few days when changing over to to WPA). For the past couple of days the laptop has not been able to connect to the internet apart from a few times where the connection lasted 2-5 minutes. We have multiple computers and portable devices in the house all of which don't seem to have any issue connecting to the internet.
