Routers / Switches :: Connecting Uverse 2Wire3801 HGV To 2Wire 1701 HG?

Jan 25, 2011

How can I connect and configure a new AT&T Uverse 2Wire 3801HGV gateway with an older 2wire 1701HG gateway as a router to add more IP addresses in a home network? The 3801 currently feeds a wired lan through three 16 and 8 port switches, and feeds way too many wireless users too. Plus, the 3801 also feeds the VOIP phone system and TV (non HD). I now know the 3801 has a max of 10 or 12 IP addresses that it can handle (where was that little detail in the AT&T material?). The 1701 can and has fed more than 50 wireless and wired connections easily for years. So, what needs to be done make the 1701 feed the wired and wireless lan from the 3801 gateway, as well as let the 3801 continue to feed the VOIP, TV, and some of the wireless lan needs at the same time?

Using A Router And 8 Port Switch With ATT Uverse Modem

Oct 4, 2012

I have ATT u-verse currently and it connected to a router but I am going to need several more gigabit ports so I wanted to get an 8 port gigabit switch. I would plan on running a cable from my U-Verse modem to my router then to my switch giving me wireless and 8 gigabit ports. Would that work? I've never done this before so I wasn't sure if I was missing something or not.

Connecting PC To The Internet Using Ethernet?

Jul 2, 2012

I've recently bought a new computer with a wireless card. However, the wireless signal is terrible, so I'm looking to try and get my PC plugged directly into my rooter (or by other means).

Do I have any other options of doing this, other than a wire from my rooter to my PC. Is there any other solution which enables me not have to plug into my rooter directly?? (as my rooter is in an awkward spot and has to stay there). Can I plug into an ADSL port for example? Or any other alternatives???

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to anything to do with networks, internet access, LAN etc etc.

Connecting 2 Ethernet Cables Using Coupler?

May 16, 2011

I had one straight through cable connecting one switch and a pc in my office. The cable is approx 90 metres in length. The cable has been cut in between by rat. Now can I join those 2 cables by a coupler, if so will it increase latency, what type of crimping is required, straight through or cross cables. I think 2 cross cables connected by a coupler becomes straight.

Connecting Via Ethernet Disables Wireless Connection?

Sep 3, 2012

I've been trying to use my laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad Y580) as a wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 by bridging the LAN/Wireless networks and connecting the Xbox to the laptop via Ethernet. The wireless works fine normally, but when I plug the Ethernet cable into the computer, the laptop automatically disables WiFi and changes to a LAN connection. It doesn't give any options whatsoever to reconnect to wireless, just forces me to use the Ethernet connection. As soon as the cable is removed the wireless connection returns, but for what I'm trying to do to work, I need both LAN and wireless to be working simultaneously, and the wireless providing the Internet connection. I've also tried connecting the laptop to a router via Ethernet and received the same result, so I'm pretty sure it's something on the laptop that's causing it. Is there a way to change this so the laptop can use the wireless connection while plugged into another device via Ethernet?

Hp Dv6000 Can't Connect To Att Uverse Wifi?

Mar 24, 2011

I have an HP dv6000 that has an atheros ar5007 b/g card built in, windows vista home premium, the system was recently restored to start fresh for a new user (my daughter). The ethernet port on the side works fine to get online, the wifi is on and does find connections out there including our att uverse, it will connect to our library's and our community rooms free wifi, and to a neighbors unsecured connection as well, but no matter what I do I can't get it to connect to OUR att uverse!I do know the passkey and its verified with all our other laptops, iphones, ps3 etc, i tried updating the wifi cards drivers from the hp site, i turned off the firewall, re-tried the passkey, its not erroring on that just won't connect. There is this diagnose thing that does nothing, I have also reset the att uverse and restarted the laptop all same results. Then I thought maybe windows updates were needed, so plugged in via ethernet cord did those restarted, still same thing (won't connect to our att) but strangely still does connect to other wifi so i am pretty sure its not a bad card inside the machine or anything.

Uverse Lockups And Router Reboots?

Apr 6, 2011

We've had UVerse for about a year now - but lately we've had weird problems:

-about every 2-4 weeks, the router will spend a night constantly locking up and rebooting itself. ATT says they don't know why, and wanted me to check the power?? When it does this, it will do it for 30 minutes to TWO HOURS.

-every couple of days, the channels will freeze. If we change channels and then back, it returns to normal for a bit. Sometimes for a while, sometimes only for a minute. We have two boxes, each one does it. Even affects DVR playback. Internet doesn't seem to be affected, so I had originally though it was the boxes. ATT has remoted in, and can't find anything out of the ordinary.

Connecting Multiple Routers Via Ethernet Cable For Range?

Dec 20, 2012

Although I haven't looked through all the forum topics I couldn't find anything very similar to my situation. I have a rather large house and my modem/router (Netgear DGND3300 v2 due to DSL) is in the very corner. Given this most of the opposite corner of my house gets either poor or no connection; however, I do have an ethernet cable run across the house through the basement to my home theatre setup. This is where I encounter another problem, I need multiple devices to be connected via ethernet and I also need to have wireless in that same area. In my mind I picture myself connecting a second router to this ethernet cable through which I could have wired connections to all my devices, and a second router broadcasting wirelessly. I'm familiar with some types of wireless bridging, but I'd rather use more of a wired bridge concept if possible, but I've never really seen something like this. The question is, is this possible? Or, what is another possible way to achieve the same results? The only other thing I can think of is to run an ethernet hub from the original wired connection to my home theatre so I can connect multiple ethernet devices and run a separate wireless extender or something, but this just seems pricy.
