View 1 RepliesI have only one computer right now.Had two, and got very weak signal to laptop (since discarded) upstairs from Linksys g 54Mbits downstairs at main desktop computer desktop.I have tried three different kinds of 54Mbits wifi routers, all with no success.I'm going to get my wife a new wifi laptop for Christmas, and she wants to be able to use it all over the house.The 54Mbits will cover the downstairs, but, based on previous efforts, I am thinking of putting my modem in the garage, where the cable enters my house, and using a splitter on the cable coming out of the modem to make two IN cables, using one cable for my comp and a 54Mbits router (for downstairs coverage), and putting a second wifi router on the end of the upstairs cable, to cover the upstairs rooms.My house has cable outlets in every room, so I won't have to do any wiring.
I plan to leave the routers on all the time (at this time) subject to how much of a bandwidth drop they cause. I have a 100 Mbps connection, and I play games, so I'd like to retain as much bandwidth as possible. I assume the two "on" wifi routers will pull zero bandwidth as long as the laptop is off. (??)Or maybe I should just try an "n" wifi router, since they get twice the distance, and forget the cable splitter idea.
I am having problems connecting my PC (Win7) to my Router (Netgear DGN2000) via ethernet cable.Wi-fi is working fine but I want to speed up my connection using the PC's Gigabit port. Here are the problems:
- When connecting via wi-fi everything is fine
- When enabling my LAN WITH wi-fi still enabled I lose all internet connectivity
- When enabling my LAN and disabling wi-fi lose all internet connectivity

The last time I had to reconfigure the connections it took me hours!My son had to wipe his desktop clean and reinstall everything. Now when he tried to connect to the internet we can't get a connection at all. My desktop is still working fine as well as the wireless laptops.What do we have to do to get him reconnected?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just received a computer from a relative since they do not use it anymore. I just reformatted the hard drive and I can't seem to get it to connect to the internet. Every time I try my computer says there is no ethernet cable connected but I know it is. I read around on the forums and one thread (that is now closed), was about the same problem and to diagnose the problem they asked to use IPCONFIG/ALL in the cmd.exe. The results are this:

I've got a wireless adapter for my desktop and thats what i've been using for years to connect, but now i'm am trying to get a more reliable connection by having the ethernet cable plugged in. Problem is, as soon as I plug it in the whole computer gets extreamly sluggish or sometimes freezes up completely. If I am very patient, I can very slowly do something things. If I open the browser, it probably takes a minute for it to load. Opening the control panel, the window pops-up but none of the icons will appear until it times out. And trying to use the network icons on the taskbar to get into network settings is impossible. Weird thing is as soon as I unplug it and turn the wifi back on, the PC starts responding super quick again within seconds.

For some reason, whenever I connect a ehternet cable to my computer, I cannot seem to get internet connection through it. Some days ago I installed this Wireless Lan device from a CD, that came with a sort of antenne I had to put on my computer. It works great, BUT its slow. Thats why i would like to go on internet with cable again. I remember one day to another that my computer didn't detect the cables anymore, what could be the problem?

I have a rather large house and my modem/router (Netgear DGND3300 v2 due to DSL) is in the very corner. Given this most of the opposite corner of my house gets either poor or no connection; however, I do have an ethernet cable run across the house through the basement to my home theatre setup. This is where I encounter another problem, I need multiple devices to be connected via ethernet and I also need to have wireless in that same area. In my mind I picture myself connecting a second router to this ethernet cable through which I could have wired connections to all my devices, and a second router broadcasting wirelessly. I'm familiar with some types of wireless bridging, but I'd rather use more of a wired bridge concept if possible, but I've never really seen something like this. The question is, is this possible? Or, what is another possible way to achieve the same results? The only other thing I can think of is to run an ethernet hub from the original wired connection to my home theatre so I can connect multiple ethernet devices and run a separate wireless extender or something, but this just seems pricy.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect a pc with a cable modem using a cat5 UTP cable.I initially checked all the wires of the cable with a meter and then punched the RJ45 connectors to both ends and also checked them with a cable testing device and the straight through mappings were correct, but when i connect the two ends to the cable modem the respective lights do not show up. I have not tried the wire from the pc to the cable modem yet. The cable length is 72 meters.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've got a Cisco DPC3825 modem that I also use as a wifi router. Conntected to it I have 4 eithernet cables:
1. From PC to Router
2. From another PC to router
3. From TV to router
4. From a Dlink Powerline Adapter to Router.It took me a while to figure this out but when I unplug all the eithernet cables and plug back in #1 and #2 (from above) the internet works. When I plug back in #3 and #4, the internet dies. Meaning, I am connected to the network but not the internet. I've reset the modem, changed SSID and restarted the PC many times but still can't figure out this issue.
I ran driver verifier and when I rebooted for it to start verifying the Internet didn't work. I thought it was a driver verifier problem so I turned off it and I still had the Internet problem. I tried going back using system restore and I still have the problem. Screen shots are attached.

My roommate and I are trying to set up the internet, but my computer won't detect the Ethernet Cable. Whenever I go to Network and Sharing Center and try connecting to the internet, the computer simply says "Windows did not detect any networking hardware", even though the light is clearly on and should be working. The cable is also new so it should be fine. I've also been looking around on the internet a bit, and in trying to fix the problem it looks like some of my Services are turned off, which seems to be causing the problem. However, whenever I try and turn them on, I get an error message saying "The dependency service or group failed to start".

Currently, this building has 3 wiring closets, and each closet has 2 Intel Standalone 460 switches (24 ports). We use them as simple Layer 2 Switches. Nothing fancy.We recently bought 3 48 port HP Procurve Gigabit switches.I was planning on going in and swapping the 2 Intel Switches out with the HP Procurve Switches. The first closet went fine, and we had immediate connectivity (servers, Internet, etc.). However, when I went to the second closet I found that I could not connectivity back to the first closet.I then noticed the patch cable going from Closet A to Closet B is terminated with a female connection on both end. And then a patch cable is connected from the end, to the switch at both sites. I have never seen this before. And I hope I am making sense. Why would this method work with the old Intel switches (that are close to 10 years old) and not with the HP?
View 5 Replies View RelatedDaughter is at college with brand new Vostro 3450. Was working on school network during summer but drops the connection multiple times during the day. She runs the Troubleshooting which then allows her to connect and 30 minutes later the connection is dropped again. The laptop works fine when connected to the internet via the ethernet cable. Here is what has been done by the IT support at the school.
1 - Deleted the Intel wireless utility as they thought it was "fighting" with the Windows software for control over the wireless.
2 - Increased the power for the wireless card to "high performance".
3 - Reinstalled Windows 7 to eliminate that there is a software issue.
4 - Replaced the Intel Wireless Card with new part sent by Dell.
Now the IT supports recommendation is to "get a new system" and that perhaps the Vostro's wireless card is "not compatible with their network". For Dell computers they sell the Latitude to the students.
My daugther likes the Vostro. She doesn't want to give it up. Wants the system to work. She had the laptop during the summer session and had problems with connection. The Windows software was reinstalled thinking there was a virus (although no evidence of one) and then she had no connection problems for the whole summer. She came home for 2 weeks and returned back to school and then the system would not work again.
I don't know what to do. Can I buy a USB wireless adapter for her to temporarily use until I can figure out how to fix this problem. Personally, I think there is a design flaw with the vostro.
Is there a difference in an ethernet cable and an Ethernet networking cable? I have an Ethernet cable and a 6 port splitter I am trying to connect. I have 4 ports in the router that are in use. When I connect them to the splitter nothing s working.

Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?
when i try to log on to google chrom...it states not connect to the network...at thr bottom of the computer it say noy connected connection avaiable

It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I cant run an ethernet cable through my house from my router to my desktop PC (Which is where I use the internet/play games etc) and connect directly that way because my parents dont want cables going through the house etc etc.For the past 2 months or more I used my old laptop to pick up the wireless connection downstairs then I bridged the connection and used my ethernet cable from the laptop into my PC/Xbox or whatever, no problems until today, I wouldnt even have to log into the laptop, i would just turn it on and leave it at the login screen and I would have internet on my desktop/Xbox.Tried to do that today and was getting unidentified network on my desktop, i dont know what the problem is, I can connect directly to my router with the ethernet (I tried it) but not the old way anymore, i'm on the laptop now on the wireless internet.In network connections there LAN network isnt there anymore, its just the 'Unidentified Network' which is the bridged connection.

The Local Area Connection adapter is disabled: Detected
Enable the wired network adapter: Not run
My computer ethernet port recognizes any modem but will not recognize any wireless routers. My ISP (DSL) spent 3 hours on the phone with me and can't figure it out. I have also contacted Gateway, figuring it must be my computer. I make money on the side fixing computers, so I do have a good idea as to what is what. I run Win7 on a Gateway DX4822 with Intel Pentium Dou-core. I have searched and searched for months and have found nothing. I have asked this question on various forums (including Microsoft) and still nothing.
I have wireless connectivity with a USB 2.0 WAN antenna. I also have a blu-ray player, XBox 360, and Wii all hooked up through this router. The player and XBox are wired, the Wii and a printer is wireless.I have had all things disconnected while trying to solve this issue, thinking that somehow there wasn't enough juice getting through. The cable works. I have tried resets, powerdowns, restarts, system recovery (at one point for a few days it did work as I shared internet from a friend upstairs from me), system restore, many different wireless routers AND modems. With the router connected, the ethernet port light does NOT come on. With the modem directly connected, the light DOES come on. Other computers/laptops in the house work wired into the router.
Laptop has 2 ethernet ports and receives the internet via one of those Ethernet ports. Can I plug a ethernet lead from my spare port on my laptop to a wireless router and create a wireless network (via the internet from my laptop)? Is this possible and how do I do it ?
