Aug 3, 2012my computer doesn't have a COM port, so i connected an EthernetCOM cable to my laptop (ehternet end) and COM to the switch. Question now is, how can i establish connection?

Jan 18, 2011I recently had to completely gut my computer and start from scratch, reinstalling windows xp, and all hardware. I only have a basic knowledge of computers, and their inner workings. I had my modem connected to my computer via ethernet, and i enjoyed fast browsing. Since the rebuild, i can only use the usb (and it's sloooooow!). I have learnt all i know about drivers because of this issue.

Jul 2, 2012I've recently bought a new computer with a wireless card. However, the wireless signal is terrible, so I'm looking to try and get my PC plugged directly into my rooter (or by other means).
Do I have any other options of doing this, other than a wire from my rooter to my PC. Is there any other solution which enables me not have to plug into my rooter directly?? (as my rooter is in an awkward spot and has to stay there). Can I plug into an ADSL port for example? Or any other alternatives???
I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to anything to do with networks, internet access, LAN etc etc.

May 16, 2011I had one straight through cable connecting one switch and a pc in my office. The cable is approx 90 metres in length. The cable has been cut in between by rat. Now can I join those 2 cables by a coupler, if so will it increase latency, what type of crimping is required, straight through or cross cables. I think 2 cross cables connected by a coupler becomes straight.

For some reason my laptop cannot pick up any internet signal from them displaying 'no network access'. When I've run the troubleshoot it occasionally will say that the IP address is not valid. Sep 3, 2012I've been trying to use my laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad Y580) as a wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 by bridging the LAN/Wireless networks and connecting the Xbox to the laptop via Ethernet. The wireless works fine normally, but when I plug the Ethernet cable into the computer, the laptop automatically disables WiFi and changes to a LAN connection. It doesn't give any options whatsoever to reconnect to wireless, just forces me to use the Ethernet connection. As soon as the cable is removed the wireless connection returns, but for what I'm trying to do to work, I need both LAN and wireless to be working simultaneously, and the wireless providing the Internet connection. I've also tried connecting the laptop to a router via Ethernet and received the same result, so I'm pretty sure it's something on the laptop that's causing it. Is there a way to change this so the laptop can use the wireless connection while plugged into another device via Ethernet?

Dec 20, 2012Although I haven't looked through all the forum topics I couldn't find anything very similar to my situation. I have a rather large house and my modem/router (Netgear DGND3300 v2 due to DSL) is in the very corner. Given this most of the opposite corner of my house gets either poor or no connection; however, I do have an ethernet cable run across the house through the basement to my home theatre setup. This is where I encounter another problem, I need multiple devices to be connected via ethernet and I also need to have wireless in that same area. In my mind I picture myself connecting a second router to this ethernet cable through which I could have wired connections to all my devices, and a second router broadcasting wirelessly. I'm familiar with some types of wireless bridging, but I'd rather use more of a wired bridge concept if possible, but I've never really seen something like this. The question is, is this possible? Or, what is another possible way to achieve the same results? The only other thing I can think of is to run an ethernet hub from the original wired connection to my home theatre so I can connect multiple ethernet devices and run a separate wireless extender or something, but this just seems pricy.

Oct 25, 2012I've got a Cisco DPC3825 modem that I also use as a wifi router. Conntected to it I have 4 eithernet cables:
1. From PC to Router
2. From another PC to router
3. From TV to router
4. From a Dlink Powerline Adapter to Router.It took me a while to figure this out but when I unplug all the eithernet cables and plug back in #1 and #2 (from above) the internet works. When I plug back in #3 and #4, the internet dies. Meaning, I am connected to the network but not the internet. I've reset the modem, changed SSID and restarted the PC many times but still can't figure out this issue.

Oct 18, 2012I am having problems connecting my PC (Win7) to my Router (Netgear DGN2000) via ethernet cable.Wi-fi is working fine but I want to speed up my connection using the PC's Gigabit port. Here are the problems:
- When connecting via wi-fi everything is fine
- When enabling my LAN WITH wi-fi still enabled I lose all internet connectivity
- When enabling my LAN and disabling wi-fi lose all internet connectivity

Jun 17, 2012My main PC and modem is in a back room of the house, my secondary PC and game systems are in the living room.My main PC HAS to have a wired internet connection because that is what I want.My game systems and second PC need a wired connection.I would like to have my D-Link wireless router in the living room so I can use the WiFi for my iPods, iPad, laptop, and anything else that I am looking at when I am sitting on the front porch. I have an Epson printer that I can hook up to my network that I want to be in the back room with my main PC.To get the internet into the living room I am going to run a CAT5E ethernet cable under my house (off the ground and away from electric wires and copper pipe) from my back room to the living room.Is it possible for me to go from the modem to a switch box (I actually have two switch boxes, but I believe I will only need one)which would be connected to my main PC, the printer, and the ethernet wire going under the house to the living room... Then in the living room have the wire that comes from under the house (from the back room) go directly into the wireless router and then from the router have cables going to my game systems and the second PC?If this will work, will I still be able to control the wireless router with my main PC?

Whenever i switch on my computer and opens the browser it first redirects to the page url... where it asks for Username & Password, our ISP gives us a IP Address which displays on the web page after logging in.I want the internet connection to be shared with my roommates so i bought a 8 port Ethernet switch (url..), which is having a uplink port also. I have connected the wire given by the ISP to the up link port of the switch & i connected my PC to one port of the switch with another network cable. I also connected my friends PC to second port of switch with another network cable, my problem is that when i sign into my ISP web page and start using the internet & my friend also wants internet in his PC & when he opens the browser the ISP's webpage is appearing and when he sign's in internet is disconnecting in my Pc. I tried to change the IP but as a default IP is given by the ISP if change the IP internet is not working.
