D-Link DIR-655 :: Poor Download Speeds While Uploading?

Apr 13, 2011

I have a DSL connection with AT&T.  It is rated at 6Mbps / 768Kbps, but it closer to 4Mbps / 600Kbps.  I have a speed stream 5360 connected to the DIR655.  Devices on my network are primarily wireless and include; several laptops, a desktop (which is wireless n), a couple phones / Ipods and a Wii that I watch Netflix on.

I do a lot of Photography and a handful of video work, and backup / share everything online.  When I am uploading photos, even with "conserve bandwidth" turned on in the uploading application, browsing sites is very slow, but reasonably functional.  If I try to upload a video to YouTube, I can barely manage to do anything else the entire time it is uploading.  I've tried to plan and run all my uploads overnight, but then Netflix is unusable when I want to watch it at night.

I've tried several different things, first off, with getting the Wii to function for Netflix, I turned on the QOS engine, for the IP that is assigned to it, and set it to priority 1 for all ports.  I also have a entry in the QOS engine for SSH on port 23 with a priority of 10 because of how laggy my SSH sessions are.  I do not have any other entries in the QOS engine, is that a problem?  Should there be entries that cover other services and assign them a lower priority?

I have enable traffic shaping and Automatic uplink speed turned on.  It measured the uplink speed at 695kbps, which is pretty accurate.  I have Automatic Classification off, and Dynamic Fragmentation on.  WISH is enabled also. I'm set to mixed n, g, and b, I'm not positive, but I do think my older laptops only use wireless b.

Even more importantly than the Netflix would be to allow me to use the Internet in a functional manner while I am uploading, that would solve a lot of problems.  It seems that the uploads just hog every last bit of upload bandwidth and don't want to make room for even the small requests that one needs to send to view a web page.

Slow File Uploading With Normal Download Speeds?

Jul 12, 2012

I am having difficulty uploading files on the internet because the speeds are so slow. My download speed is 23.88 MBPS, bu upload is .3 mbps. This seems to be a recent problem. The other computers on the network get upload speeds of 5mbps and do not have any problem, so I think there is some problem unique to this computer, and not a network problem. I can't back up my files because the speed is too slow.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Poor Wireless To Wired Transfer Speeds?

Oct 26, 2012

I have tried 2 DIR-655 routers now, revision B1, firmware versions 2.04, 2.07, 2.08beta and a number of laptops and wireless mini pci-e nics and I simply CAN'T get faster than about 10 megabytes/sec transfer speed from a wireless laptop to a wired gigabit desktop.

Is this just simply a limitation of these routers?  Can they simply not transfer data at decent speeds?  I've seen real world transfer speeds near 12 megabytes/sec on a DIR-615 and I assumed the limiting factor there was the 100megabit wired connection.

I've spoken to a dozen different D-Link phone support workers

Uploading FTP / Slow Speeds Via Windows Command

Nov 7, 2011

First this is my setup, i have a 100x100 mb fiber pipe at a location i am working at. i am comming out of a cisco fiber router to ethernet. i am coming straight from the fiber switch to the computer at a 1gb connection. So my problem is when i try to upload to my ftp server via windows explorer i can never get about 1.5mb, but if i upload via command prompt it goes at about 60mb upload, so the pipe is good. So you say why dont you just use the command prompt, well i have specialized gear here that run xp emmbedded and it does this via the windows explorer. I have tried 4 other computers and they all do the same thing. I tried a UDP video stream and worked at over 10mb stream. but all the ftp uploads cap out at 1.5mb.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Download Speeds Very Slow?

Jan 12, 2010

I'm paying to get Download Speeds of 25Mbps from my cable provider.

If I plug my computer directly into my cable modem, I get 24.98 Mbps every time.

Using the same speed test, if I go through the DIR-655 I get rates from 2.92 to 10 Mbps.

I'm on Firmware 1.32NA. I'm ready to go out and buy a different brand Router.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Very Slow Download And Upload Speeds

Aug 17, 2012

We recently bought a home and just moved in.  That being the case, we got a new ISP (Cincinnati Bell DSL).  The service is advertised as "Up to 5Mbps."

My current equipment:

PC:
OS Name   Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Version   6.1.7600 Build 7600
Other OS Description    Not Available

[Code].....

So what can I do to achieve faster speeds?  Am I limited by the hardware I have?  My Dell is roughly 6 years old.  Am I limited by Cincinnati Bell?  Is it the location of the wireless router?  Are there settings I can adjust to create a faster connection?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Getting Super Slow Download Speeds With Router

Dec 14, 2011

I had my Dir-655 router for over a year & this is is a first. My firmware is 1.21 & I only use my router for gaming when I'm not on my PC for home use. I have only one PC in the house that is not shared, I have also not downloaded any virus or maleware. So the past month I decided to buy a wired ethernet cord to connect to my gaming systems rather than using the wireless option to get an extra bit of speed. That has been working fine up till yesterday when all of a sudden my download speeds dropped from around 20Mb down to barely 1Mb down (I can't even get the speed test site to fully load anymore). The upload & ping remains unchanged though. Only my Download speed is being affected. This is both when I'm on the PC & when I'm online gaming.

I unplugged my D-Link router & plugged my modem directly to my PC & I got back the 20+Mb speed, so the modem or cable company are not at fault (I even called them to see if there were any problems on there end).

-I tried turning off my Firewall on my PC.
-Resetting & rebooting both my modem/router/PC.
-using different DNS numbers.
-using /flushdns.
-using /Iprenew.
-Messing around with my router configurations such as:
 turning off QoS Engine.
 turning off wireless.
 turned of MAC filtering.
 unchecked "Add DHCP Reservation".
 unchecked SIP.

None of it worked. I'm still browsing at around 56k dial up speed for the past day+!I read up on the internet for similar problems, but the only solutions I saw was turning off the firewall on the PC, but that hasn't worked at all.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Slow Wired Download Speeds On Windows 7 64

Mar 24, 2011

Router:Dir-655 (Hardware Ver B1;Firmware Ver 2.01Na)
Modem: Motrola SB6120
Cables: Cat 6
Machines: 1. XP SP3 w/d-link DGE-530T desktop; 2. XP Pro SP3 w/dlink DGE-530T desktop; 3. Win7 64 (Latest Drivers)

Problem is that the XP machines can download 25Mbsp on speedtest.net but the Win 7 only manages 5Mbps through dir-655 -- ALL WIRED CONNECTS!.  Connect Win 7 directly to modem and d/l is 30Mbps 2 hour Netflex test of wireless indicates good performance. D-Link support had me going in circles for a while until I finally suggested that a firmware update was in order.  They assured me that this had been id'd as a problem and that latest firmwire would certainly solve it.  It did not.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Wireless Internet Download Speeds Slow?

Mar 1, 2010

I'm currently subscribed to Comcast's 22/5 Internet service. Internet upload speeds on both wired and wireless are about the same at ~ 5 Mbps. Wireless download speeds range from .5-3 Mbps. Wired or Wireless, I receive LAN speeds of ~32 Mbps or 3-4 MB/s. The noticeable issue is wireless internet download speed. I have tried every configuration possible with my router, updated drivers on devices, firmware and tested everything I could on all PCs, and even used the XBOX 360's media extender network tuning feature as a tool in my investigation to find this bottleneck. All reports point to internet download speed. Again, general LAN and internet upload speeds relatively meet expectations. The wired download speeds are slow at times, but consistently meet expectations.

My current Setup:

Wifi
A4 1.33NA
WPA2 Only - Personal
802.11 Mode : 802.11n only
Channel Width : 40MHz
Channel : 1

Cisco WAN :: C1861 And ZBF Performance With Download Is Poor

May 1, 2011

having a very strange problem with a Cisco 1861 running - Cisco IOS Software, C1861 Software (C1861-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T5

The issue  -I  have suddenly started to get performance issues with downloads and  access through the ZBF. Without the firewall enabled and just having NAT  enabled and routing  , downloads perform as expected - ( have been  using Itunes download as test file ) - with the ZBF enabled , and the  necessary rules installed to inspect & allow traffic - downloads  stall - and the only way to get the downlaod to start again is to pause ,  then resume. The stalls are anything between the first 25 - 120 secs.

I  have debugged and performed packet traces - but cant see anything  untoward. I have also placed another router ( just a cheap Belkin )  on  the ADSL service and again , the downloads work as expected.

one  further thing to add is that when im tunneling through the firewall (  VPN ) , then downloads do work as expected - suggesting that the issue  is with native HTTP(s) traffic.

I  have upgraded from T4 to T5 - and the symptons still remain - I am  thinking that these may have been introduced when i upgraded to T4 a few  monthes ago.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA2700 - Getting Poor Download Speed?

Sep 20, 2012

I have tried all the speed test sites and tried downloads with and without my EA2700. Every test shows about half the perfomance when connected through the router. My speed tests at speedtest.net with a direct connection are in the 21-26Mbps range, the same tests run about a minute later through the EA2700 fall in the 10-12Mbps range with spikes up to 17Mbps.I've reset the router and modem.I've gone back to the 1.0.14.129982 Firmware (which it's currently on)I've set the MTU everywhere from 1400 to 1500 (literally EVERY setting for at least a couple of hours) it is 1492 currently. None of these have worked. In addition, when a large stream starts, such as a Steam download, I will lose ALL connectivity. Going in to Network and Sharing and clicking to connect to the internet restores the connection, no need to reset any hardware (which is odd in itself). I have had MANY routers over the years and I've all but exhausted support with service provider as the connection is solid if I eliminate the router.Main machine is a Windows 7 Home edition Total of 5 machines, 3 of which see regular use All machines go through a Trendnet 16 port switch and performance is the same direct or through the switch I m on Brighthouse in Central Florida and have all but exhausted their support.

As it stands now my desktop (hardwired into the router) gets d/u speeds of around 16 to 20 Mbps down and 1 to 2 Mbps up, this is pretty standard from my old router and in the range for what I pay RCN in Massachusetts for. When I connect my wife's Mac and my Laptop to the wireless I get in the range of 1 to 2 Mbps down and 1 to 2 Mbps up

Download Speeds Couldn't Be Worse?

Oct 16, 2011

Yet I haven't been getting anywhere near that lately. I have been getting 30-50kbs for a speed lately on my linux server, and I am not sure how slow on my windows box.I have road runner internet, and I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router, and a ubee modem. I have done a little looking at the event log of the ubee modem and found that I am getting "Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - ..." every 3 -5 minutes. I don't know what that means but it says critical next too it. Something else I have found is that it has been raining for the last 3 day straight, don't know if that make a difference

Slow Download Speeds On Brand New Lenovo Laptop?

Dec 27, 2012

I just got a new Lenovo Ideapad y500 a few days ago, and the internet speed has been incredibly slow from the get-go. Loading images on pages takes way longer than it should, I can't watch streaming videos that last 4 minutes without it pausing to buffer every 5-10 seconds. It took about 20 minutes to download a 50mb file. My 4 year old laptop loads everything way faster, especially when downloading files. I did a ping test on both and everything was about the same, except I got a download speed of .75 mb/s on the new laptop, and between 12-17 mb/s on the old laptopI did a few ping tests, and this is what I got:Ping: 25 msDownload speed: .75 mbpsUpload speed: 4.10 mpbs.

And then I tried the same test with the laptop plugged directly in to the router with the ethernet cable and I got a ping of 20 + download speed of 25.12 mbps, and I tried loading a few youtube videos and they ran perfectly. Then I ran the test again over wifi, only this time I ran it sitting right next to the router. Still got download speeds of about 20 mbps. As soon as I got back to my room (which isn't that far from the router) the download speed dropped back to ~.80 and everything went back to loading slow again. The thing is, running the test from the exact same spot in my room on my old laptop, I still was able to get download speeds of around 18 mbps. My network card is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 and the router is Linksys WRT150N wireless-n.I've tried downloading the wireless drivers from Lenovo, and it didn't change anything. So those are up to date. There were no firmware updates available for the router on Linksys' site

I have noticed this many times when I am going from a cisco 800 series router to a Cisco ASA.This is severely limiting my ability to perform replication out from my locale.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slow Download Speeds With E1200

Apr 29, 2012

I have an E1200 that will work fine for a while, then suddenly the download speed for all wireless devices will drop to between 20-30 KB/sec.  It happened last night when we were watching videos on Hulu.  We were blazing along fine, when all of a sudden the connection was horrible enough that we had to stop watching.  We have no idea what changed - there are only two of us in the house and we were both passively watching Hulu.

This has happened before, and usually changing something like the wireless channel has fixed it, but not this time. The PCs we have that are connected to the router via Ethernet get between 1-3 MB/sec, so I know it's not the modem or the ISP.The signal strength is good (4-5 bars).  I have tried repositioning the router and the wireless reciever but that hasn't worked.I have the latest firmware for the router as far as I know (v2.0.02).

I have tried every channel available (including "Auto").  I have tried switching the Channel Width between Auto and 40 MHz.  I have tried resetting the router to factory settings and re-uploading my configuraiton.  I have tried setting QoS.

DSL-G604T - Slow Browsing But Fast Download Speeds On New Computer Build

Oct 8, 2012

I had recently upgraded my computer, which currently looks like this:

CPU: i5 3570
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP
RAM: G.Skill 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
HDD: Seagate ST1000DM003 1TB Barracuda + Seagate 320GB Barracuda
GFX: Sapphire HD4850 512MB Dual Slot Fan
PSU: OCZ StealthXtream 500W
(The bits in bold were the upgraded parts, up from an AMD Athlon64X2 6000+)

For some really strange reason, my web browsing has been ridiculously slow, with the words "Waiting for [website]" always showing up in the bottom corner of Chrome for a good 10-20 seconds before the website loads. This happens to every website I visit, bar Facebook (secret Facebook virus?). It's especially bad on shopping websites such as eBay, taking upwards of a minute to load pages. I have tried Internet Explorer and the same thing is happening.

My downloads, on the other hand, have been unaffected by the upgrade, with download speeds averaging 800KB/s.

If it matters, my current modem/router is a D-LINK DSL-G604T; my other devices work perfectly fine on this modem, with browsing speeds being faster on my 2G iPod Touch than my desktop computer.

I currently use Avira Internet Security 2012 as my anti-virus.

I also use these extensions in Chrome (if it matters):
4chan Plus 2.5.5
Adblock Plus (Beta) 1.2
LastModified 1.1.2
Neater Bookmarks 0.9.4
PhotoZoom for Facebook 1.1208.30.1
Session Buddy 3.0.16
Xmarks Bookmark Sync 1.0.22
Youtube Ratings preview 2.0

I have tried disabling all add-ons and the speed is still the same

In the middle of writing this, I decided to download Firefox, which has improved on my browsing speed somewhat, but still has hiccups here and there (Facebook takes forever to load in Firefox). But having been a Chrome user for a long time, I would like to stick with it.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Extremely Slow Download Speeds

Jun 5, 2011

All I want is functional Wi-Fi in my house like the rest of the world. Unfortunately, I cannot have that for whatever reason.

Now that I said that, Let's me get down to explaining my issue. I orginally owned a Linksys WRT350n. This router worked fine for years, untill one day I decided to do a speed test on my new Motrola Atrix. My Wired computer gets ~22000kbps down and 4000kbps up... My wireless speedtest on my Atrix yielded 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up. I assumed it was the phone, so i went and tried every other wireless device in my house. Everyone of them got the same result.. 2000kbps down.. 4000kbps up.

At this point I went into my router settings and tried every available channel, all of them yielded the same result of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up.. At this point, I assumed it was the router. Ive had it for a few years and figured it was just reaching EOL. I rushed to my nearest bestbuy to pick up a brand new Linksys E4200. I brought it home, hooked it up and was eager to test my new wireless speeds. Unfortunately the same results of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up was the yield. Once again, I've tried every possible channel with no change to my speeds. At this point I called up Linksys/Cisco support.. They were POSITIVE it was a hardware issue and had me exchange the router, even though I informed them i had the same issue with my older router of a different model. I went along with it anyway, and exchanged my router. Same issue. I called Cisco/Linksys back up and informed them, and basically they told me "they'd make a note of the issue and call me back at a later date."

I downloaded a WiFi Analyzer on my cell phone. Theres only two other dectable networks in my area, and they are low low low signal. So, I don't believe it's heavy saturation. The router is in the same room as 3 of the wireless devices that get 2000kbps down/4000kbps up. So it's not range either.
