Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Really Poor Down / Up Speeds For Wireless

Dec 30, 2012

I just got my EA6500 router before the holidays and set it up before going on vacation so I can't be sure that wireless was ever working at full speed, due to lack of testing. As it stands now my desktop (hardwired into the router) gets d/u speeds of around 16 to 20 Mbps down and 1 to 2 Mbps up, this is pretty standard from my old router and in the range for what I pay RCN in Massachusetts for. When I connect my wife's Mac and my Laptop to the wireless I get in the range of 1 to 2 Mbps down and 1 to 2 Mbps up

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 With Poor Signal And Low Speeds

Nov 6, 2011

I just bought an E1200 router, which is downstairs and about 50 ft away from me. I have only about 60% signal strength, and my speed test when connected wireless is only 5mbit up,4mbit down. I plugged my computer into the router via ethernet and I get 30mbit up, and 5mbit down. Are there any settings you could suggest to improve this? I tried several channels already, none above 60% it seems.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Ea6500 / Log In Error And Poor Wifi Speed?

Jan 19, 2013

I just picked up a EA6500 wireless router today and I am a bit disappointed. I paid $199 for this router because I was hoping to take advantage of of fast N speeds and the advanced features it offers. When I first logged in to set up the router, I saw an amber exclamation point with a note that read "Updating Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Service". When I put my password in I was met with a "Unexpected Error" message. Also, the firmware updater doesn't work. Now on to the more bothersome issue. Wireless speed is poor. I replaced a WRT160NL router with this one. On my old router using WPA2-Personal (AES) I would see speeds of ~300 Mbps. On my EA6500, I see 120 Mbps. I have checked and double checked all wireless and security settings and don't see anything that looks wrong.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Speeds Extremely Slow

Jan 24, 2013

i just replaced my malfunctioning E4200 with the new EA6500 and the speeds are almost like dail-up. I haven't changed ANYTHING in regards to the setup, so I don't see what I could possibly be doing wrong. I even went as far as hooking up the old E4200 to my laptop while having the EA6500 hooked up to my desktop so that I could cross-reference the router settings. They were exactly the same.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WUMC710 Slow Speeds With EA6500?

Jan 21, 2013

Unlike other people, I haven't (yet) experienced any flapping of the wireless connection: it's stable but slow.

My problem is that Samba share speed are 50MB/s without using the WUMC710 (connected directly to the router) and about 10 MB/s with connection to the WUMC710. Computers have gigabit NICs and proper cables.

The WUMC710 is about 5 metres from EA6500 and there are no obstacles. The WUMC710 says that signal is 100%.

On the EA6500 the 5GHz band is on and I have tried almost every possible compination with the settings: all the way from Mixed and full automated to Only AC and 80MHz. I also tried resetting both devices.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Poor Wireless To Wired Transfer Speeds?

Oct 26, 2012

I have tried 2 DIR-655 routers now, revision B1, firmware versions 2.04, 2.07, 2.08beta and a number of laptops and wireless mini pci-e nics and I simply CAN'T get faster than about 10 megabytes/sec transfer speed from a wireless laptop to a wired gigabit desktop.

Is this just simply a limitation of these routers?  Can they simply not transfer data at decent speeds?  I've seen real world transfer speeds near 12 megabytes/sec on a DIR-615 and I assumed the limiting factor there was the 100megabit wired connection.

I've spoken to a dozen different D-Link phone support workers

D-Link DIR-655 :: Poor Download Speeds While Uploading?

Apr 13, 2011

I have a DSL connection with AT&T.  It is rated at 6Mbps / 768Kbps, but it closer to 4Mbps / 600Kbps.  I have a speed stream 5360 connected to the DIR655.  Devices on my network are primarily wireless and include; several laptops, a desktop (which is wireless n), a couple phones / Ipods and a Wii that I watch Netflix on.

I do a lot of Photography and a handful of video work, and backup / share everything online.  When I am uploading photos, even with "conserve bandwidth" turned on in the uploading application, browsing sites is very slow, but reasonably functional.  If I try to upload a video to YouTube, I can barely manage to do anything else the entire time it is uploading.  I've tried to plan and run all my uploads overnight, but then Netflix is unusable when I want to watch it at night.

I've tried several different things, first off, with getting the Wii to function for Netflix, I turned on the QOS engine, for the IP that is assigned to it, and set it to priority 1 for all ports.  I also have a entry in the QOS engine for SSH on port 23 with a priority of 10 because of how laggy my SSH sessions are.  I do not have any other entries in the QOS engine, is that a problem?  Should there be entries that cover other services and assign them a lower priority?

I have enable traffic shaping and Automatic uplink speed turned on.  It measured the uplink speed at 695kbps, which is pretty accurate.  I have Automatic Classification off, and Dynamic Fragmentation on.  WISH is enabled also. I'm set to mixed n, g, and b, I'm not positive, but I do think my older laptops only use wireless b.

Even more importantly than the Netflix would be to allow me to use the Internet in a functional manner while I am uploading, that would solve a lot of problems.  It seems that the uploads just hog every last bit of upload bandwidth and don't want to make room for even the small requests that one needs to send to view a web page.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Performance Is Very Poor

Aug 24, 2012

I recently purchased an EA4500.  It started out working really well, but recently I noticed that my speed on my iPhone and iPad has dropped significantly.  When I'm in my office where the router is set up, I'm getting around 15 to 20 mb download speed and 5+ upload speed.  When I go to my living room about 40 feet away my speed drops to 1mb down and less than 1 up.  I expect to see a drop in my performance the further away I get from the router, but this seems really unacceptable to me.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Poor Range On 5.0 GHz?

Jan 9, 2013

Well I spent last night installing a new WIFI router on my home network. I had problems from the start. I found out that Linksys had changed their default IP address on their routers since I installed my previous router, a Linksys also. So I had to used their setup utility to configure the new router. Thats when I found the change in the IP address. The Linksys setup utility is not the most friendly user setup utility. Finally got the new router setup. I went to bed and when I went to check today's weather forecast I found that the new router's WIFI signal strength was much lower than my old router. Ended up re-installing my old router. I can't return the new router now because I threw out the box for the router. Guess it will sit on the shelf as a spare if needed.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA2700 - Getting Poor Download Speed?

Sep 20, 2012

I have tried all the speed test sites and tried downloads with and without my EA2700. Every test shows about half the perfomance when connected through the router. My speed tests at speedtest.net with a direct connection are in the 21-26Mbps range, the same tests run about a minute later through the EA2700 fall in the 10-12Mbps range with spikes up to 17Mbps.I've reset the router and modem.I've gone back to the 1.0.14.129982 Firmware (which it's currently on)I've set the MTU everywhere from 1400 to 1500 (literally EVERY setting for at least a couple of hours) it is 1492 currently. None of these have worked. In addition, when a large stream starts, such as a Steam download, I will lose ALL connectivity. Going in to Network and Sharing and clicking to connect to the internet restores the connection, no need to reset any hardware (which is odd in itself). I have had MANY routers over the years and I've all but exhausted support with service provider as the connection is solid if I eliminate the router.Main machine is a Windows 7 Home edition Total of 5 machines, 3 of which see regular use All machines go through a Trendnet 16 port switch and performance is the same direct or through the switch I m on Brighthouse in Central Florida and have all but exhausted their support.

Belkin F7D4301 - Router Has Slow Wireless Speeds But Fast Ethernet Speeds

May 19, 2013

My Belkin F7D4301 Router has the fastest wireless speed of maybe 2MBps but wired with a cat5e cable to my asus laptop of almost 7MBps. I have a one smart TV, one blue ray, one roku, and a nexus 7 using the 2.4 channel.

My Wireless 2.4 settings are channel 11, Extension channel 7, Wireless mode N (have tried with just g and b, g, and n modes), Bandwidth 20/40, Protected mode on, QOS off.

I've talked to Belkin tech support, they are the ones who had me set up my 2.4 channel this way but my wireless speeds stay just under 2MBps, they just want to keep sending me the same model Router because they think each of the new ones they send me is defective.

Am I doing something wrong or is 2MBps the best wireless speed I'm going to get?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 / Poor Performance As Master Browser?

Sep 28, 2012

I have EA4500 acting as a router on domainless all-Windows network of two XP machines.Unfortunately, EA4500 aggressively grabs the role of the Master Browser (I am talking about Computer Browser Service) on the network (regardless in which order you power the devices up) and then doesn't serve as a working Master Browser - both Windows machines stop listing the network computers in the "Network Neighborhood" and incur massive timeouts when attempting to view the listing.A quick look with 'browstat.exe status' reveals that indeed the router has announced itself as a Master Browser device, but returns errors when you query it.Quite predictably, without the router, both machinces figure out amongst each other who will be the Master Browser and everything works fine. The problems begin only when you add the router to the network.

1) Is there any way to make EA4500 work like a full-blown Master Browser (the one that not only announces itself, but also serves as such)? having a Master Browser integrated in "always-on" router would really improve the predictability of the network.

2) If not, is there any way to disable the Master Browser on EA4500? For now I managed to achieve that by assigning the router to different workgroup name, but this is lame, as I now can't connect a disk storage to the router and use it within the same workgroup.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GH Signal Strength Is Extremely Poor?

Oct 7, 2011

I have a WRT54gh, and the signal strength is extremely poor. Full strength at about 15 centimeters, Then drops to 50% at 50 centimeters. By 1.5 meters, the signal is extremely weak or not visible. Have updated to the latest firmware, factory reset and power cycled. There are no other wireless networks or devices that would provide interference Have experimented with channels, thresholds, transmit type, encrypted/open, intervals etc..No luck. Due to signal dropping off so quickly it seems like a transmit strength issue rather than an issue that can be solved in the menu. I'm wondering if there's a way I can console log-in to the Linux kernel and check the transmit strength and perhaps bump it up by a few DB? It's out of warranty so a solution involving opening the case is also acceptable.

Wireless Speeds With Linksys Router

Nov 21, 2012

Recently the Comcast internet service in my area was upgraded to 50+ Mbps/10+ Mbps download/upload respectively. If I have my computer wired to the router, I see the advertised speeds of 50/10. If I go wireless, the speeds drop to around 30 Mbps download, but stay at around 10 Mbps upload. The router I have is a Linksys WRT160Nv1.I believe the issue has to do with "WMM Support" in my router's settings. From what I've heard, the router has to have WMM enabled for true wireless N speeds, but when I have WMM enabled, my wireless download speeds drop to around .5 Mbps. However, this is the odd part. My upload speeds stay at 10+ Mbps. This happens for all devices in my house.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Slow Speeds In Both Wired And Wireless Usage

Nov 12, 2012

Why my E3200 is (for lack of a better word) "throttling" my internet speeds.I'm signed up for my ISP's 50Mbps data plan. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem (via LAN cable), I see close to 50Mbps as the internet speed (measure via speedtest.net). When I hook up my router to the cable modem, and connect via LAN cable to the router, the internet speed comes down to around a maximum of 26Mbps. NOTE, that I am still talking about a wired connection and not a wireless access. Speed tests with the wireless access do yield the same results as well. To rule out the obvious, I've confirmed that there aren't any other devices on the network and no other bandwidth hogging applications running while I performed these tests.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N Not Providing Fast Wireless Speeds?

Jan 26, 2012

I recently bought a WRT160N Wireless router and am not getting fast wireless speeds. My ISP told me my speeds are 10mbps download and 1 mbps upload. I realize that this is not lighting fast but it is all that I feel like i need. My speeds on the WRT160N are about 2-3 MBPS d/l and 600kbps u/l on my wireless connection, which is hooked up to my playstation 3. My wired connection, which goes to my pc, is 9.75 mbps d/l and about .95 mbps u/l, which seems right. Why am I getting such low speeds with a router that is suppose to be build for faster wireless and longer ranges. To make a comparison, I have been using an OLD linksys b-rated router. i can't exactly remember the model, but i think it is the bef11s4, it came with a network card and is about 6-7 years old. I was getting 3-3.5 mbps d/l and 800kbps u/l with the b rated router, and it seemed like a better reception, like in the 80's-90's. ThisWRT160N is getting like in the 70's and sometimes lower.I have tried setting the router to open all ports to a dedicated ip address, it made things a little better, maybe getting 2.5 mbps d/l at the most. What am i doing wrong? I have heard something about tomato firmware but am not real familiar with it?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Without Routing / Using WAN?

Dec 29, 2012

I would like to use the EA6500 in my network - but nor as primary router (or in fact routing at all). I would have thought, one could simply tell the device to use a particular gateway, but it does not seem to be easy. I have used many other home routers as combined switch/AP/USB-drive (latest a D-Link DIR-655), but the EA6500 seems very picky. The "easy" "Smart Wi-Fi" setup requires internet access through the WAN port - and that divides my home network, which then have two zones which cannot really "talk" to each other. Alternatively, I can reset the device and access it directly on the IP (initially 192.168.1.1). But then I can change only LAN and WLAN settings. Stuff like Guest Access, USB-devices etc. won't work. Do anybody have success with this device without using the WAN port and the DHCP server?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 NAT Redirection Bug?

Nov 20, 2012

I have a pair EA4500s that I am swapping out for a pair of EA6500s.  One EA6500 is a router.  The 2nd EA6500 is set as a bridge and us being used as an Access Point about 200ft and two floors above the main EA6500 router.  The two units are connected via DECA (200MB Ethernet over DirecTV cable - an alternative for others with a cable provider is called MOCA).  So, basically two EA6500s serving as two Access Points on opposite sides of the house and all wireless networks on different channels but all sharing the same SSID.  Everything works GREAT except for one unusual issue.

The issue is with wired or wireless clients.  If I try to use my PUBLIC address with port number to address a local client on the local network inside the NAT network the NAT redirection fails.  In other words if I use 172.16.16.8 for a local web cam while inside my network from an iPhone or PC all works great.  If I use the external public address, however, the connection times out.  If I pop out the EA6500 doing the routing/NAt and swap it with the old EA4500 with basically the same config as the EA6500 everything works again.  The EA6500 and the EA4500 are configured identical for the most part and with the EA4500 as the main router NAT redirection works great but with the EA6500 NAT redirection fails.  I have the firewall setting to FILTER NAT REDIRECTION unchecked so that's not the problem.

Seems very odd.... and only seems to happen with the EA6500..... the work around is to use the local IP address when the client is on the inside and the public address when on the outside, but what a pain that is....
