D-Link DIR-825 :: Data Transfer Across Network

Jun 19, 2011

I have recently been encountering file transfer probles across our network from wireless to wired, and vice versa. The transfer will start and process about 50% and then we lose internet connection, and it requires a router reboot to get connectivity again?

Adapter Breaks During Data Transfer Across Network

Feb 28, 2011

Windows 7 32 bit laptop ----> Windows 7 64 bit PC with USB network adapter.

I'm trying to move a folder from one computer to the other. There are about 300 files totalling 3mb.

At around "234 files remaining", the transfer freezes, and after a minute or so, the network connection on the destination computer is shown as Disabled. If I right click and choose "Enable", it makes the attempt, says "connection failed", and then "It is not possible to connect at this time. No network was detected. You may need to plug in your network cable to complete the connection."

What will fix it is unplugging the USB network adapter and replugging. But it only allows a little bit more transfer before it happens again.

I tried initiating the transfer from one computer, and again from the destination (bringing the files to it), but the problem occurs just the same. On additional attempts it will reconnect to the other computer and allow me to browse the files, but the connection crashes again without any more progress. My internet connection is fine otherwise, doesn't do this unless I'm transferring data across the network. I disabled Eset real-time protection but have windows firewall up (I'd rather not turn it off).

Cisco :: Linksys E3200 Router - Very Slow Network Data Transfer Rates?

Oct 12, 2011

Hardware Software profile;
Laptop - Windows 7
Desktop - Vista Ultimate SP2
Router - Cisco Linksys E3200
Cables - CAT6

I am a sales engineer, so I use my desktop and laptop all the time. When on road, I sync my desktop with my laptop using a program called ViceVersa. This a very good, reliable syncing program that I have been using for over 10 years  ( with upgrades ).

The program allows me to sync my desktop and laptop. The program also shows the data transfer rate during the syncing process. The typical data transfer speed is between 5MB/s and 10MB/s with sometimes up to 12MB/s. A typical sync between the computers will take about 3 - 5 minutes at the ~ 10 MB/s transfer rate using ethernet CAT6 cable inteface. At about 11pm last Tuesday, there was a Windows update on both my Vist and Win7 computers. On wednesday, I went to do a typical sync. The system has dramatically slowed to 59KB/s max. This is about 150 times slower than 5-10MB/s that I was used to for so many years. My typical sync was now taking about 2 hours....unacceptable ! I have tried everything to figure out what is going on and how to fix it but nothing has worked.

Then I tried to see what would happen if I disconnected my ethernet cable ( between the router and the laptop only ) and just sync using the wireless network. With that configuration, the transfer rate is ~ 2.5 MB/s which is not great but is much, much better than 59KB/s. I actually do not know what a reasonable wireless transfer rate should be since I never really did it before due to the faster speed of the wired configuration.

This is just a LAN. Only connecting my Desktop to my Laptop via the Cisco router.

How I can get my wired configuration back up to the 5-10MB/s transfer rate that it once was?

The 'wireless access point' I am using is the EnGenius EOC5611P - it can be configured for:
1. Access Point

2. Client Bridge

3. WDS Bridge

4. Client Router

I don't know which one of these I need,so working that out would be a good start!

D-Link DIR-615 :: Network File Transfer Speed

Feb 13, 2011

url...I have 2 PC's connected to a DIR-615 through 802.11n and each have a DWA-130 802.11n adapter. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on both computers. The specs of both systems are very high.I only have these 2 computers on wireless right now. Their signal is full strength, they are less than 10 feet away from the router.I am getting 2.0 MB/s when transferring files between them and although I am not expecting to get 17MB/s, but I should be getting better speed than 2 MB/s.Hard drive specs are Crucial C300 SATA 6.0, WD Caviar Blue SATA 3.0, and WD Caviar Green SATA 3.0. My Green drive reads/writes at 100MB/s, My Blue 125MB/s, and My SSD 225MB/s. So, those are not the bottleneck. Is there any other settings I can try? I have not messed with my DWA-130 settings nor have I messed with Windows.

Cisco :: Extremely Slow Data Transfer Speeds On 1130AG

May 16, 2013

I've recently upgraded the configuration on one of our 1130 series standalone access points.  I've implemented RADIUS authentication, WPA2 encryption etc. in an effort to make our network more secure.  While this part seems to be working as planned, our data transfer speeds have taken a major hit.  On our test AP, with only one laptop connected, the laptop will report a connection at 54 Mbits.  When using any speed test service the speed reported is approximately 15 Mbits.  We have 100 Mbit internet, and desktops connected to ethernet show much higher speeds. When transferring files via our own LAN, data transfer rates average approximately 2 Mbytes/second.  I've tested this on 3 separate laptops, some relatively new, and it seems they all get the same speeds.

Long story short, our wireless seems to be operating under a third of its reported speed.

D-Link DIR-825 :: How To Maximize Wireless Transfer Speed On A Network

May 16, 2013

My Home/Small Business network now utilizes several D-Link products.  It is comprised of a DLink 205 cable modem (old but reliable and perfectly adequate for the speed I get from my ISP); 2 - DIR-825 Dual Band WiFi Routers (Primary - Rev B1; Secondary - Rev A1); a DLink 5-port Unmanaged Smart Switch (GO series); an HP Proliant N54L Microserver with 6 internal and 2 external HDD's (total of 19TB); 4-5 workstations (HP Laptops); 2 - Brother Laser Printers/Scanner/Copiers; a Toshiba Thrive Android Tablet; an iPad Tablet; Android Smartphones; iPhones; and a large screen HDTV.  The Modem, WiFi Routers, Switch, and Server are connected together with CAT6E ethernet cable.  The printers are USB 2.0 to the server.  The external HDD's are USB 3.0 to the Server.

When I measure transfer speeds of Large files (single 30GB iso movie files) between HDD's internal to the Server and USB 3.0 external <=> internal, I can achieve transfer rates of 140MB/sec - 150MB/sec.  This is the limitation of 7200rpm HDD's.   When I measure the transfer rate from the Server to a Work Station by CAT6E ethernet cable (25ft length) connected to the DLink 5-port gigabit switch, I measure transfer speeds of around 65MB/sec - 70MB/sec with a peak transfer rate of around 95MB/sec.  This is ok but not as fast as other people seem to get.  I would be hope to see rates in excess of 100MB/sec.   Theoretical maximum for 1GB being 125MB/sec but the specs on the ports say they should operate up to 2GB (250MB/sec).

Wireless transfer rates are where I really am having trouble.  Transferring the same 30GB iso movie file over wireless between two Work Stations or between a Work Station and the Server gives a maximum transfer speed of 7.2MB/sec and an average transfer speed of around 4.5MB/sec.   If I am streaming multiple streams and trying to transfer a iso file, the transfer speed drops down to as low as 350KB/sec.  This is too slow.

My network is setup to do Bare Metal Backups of the Work Stations.   This can entail transferring up to 100GB of mixed files to the back-up drives on the Server for each Work Station.   At 4.5MB/sec it takes just under 7 hours to back up the Work Station.   If multiple Work Stations are backed up, it takes longer.  Too Long to be realistic.

How to increase the transfer speeds on the wireless network?  I have seen other people post wireless transfer speeds for their networks in excess of 13MB/sec.   If I could get 7MB/sec or above when backing up all the Work Stations simultaneously. That would be doable.

D-Link DIR-655 / E6400 - Increase Network Transfer Speed?

Jul 29, 2011

I am having issues with transfer speed on my network. I have a D-Link DIR-655 wireless N router. Two PC's. My gaming PC is also a server of sorts. E6600, 4 gb of RAM, Wireless N PCI card, Win 7 Pro 64.

I have a small e6400 machine, 4 gb ram, Win 7 Pro 32, 1gigabit connection, hardwired to the router. This one is hooked up to the TV. I want to stream my movie/tv collection from my gamin PC, which is on the other side of the room to the TV. The gaming machine/server has 4 drives, with a dedicated 1tb drive for video storage. The machine connected to the TV has one 300 gb drive. Right now, I am getting 1.8 mbps transfer speeds. This is causing very choppy playback. I am using VLC for playback. I am using WPA2 for network security.

How can i increase my transfer speeds across the network? Is 1.8mbps as good as it gets?

Can Transfer Files To External Hard Drive And Stream Data Over 5 Hz Signal

Jul 8, 2012

I am going back to college and I will need a router. Both my roommate and I were on the same router went over our bandwidth usage a number of times last year. I've done a bit of research and have come up with a few options: Asus rt-n56u, netgear wndr 4500, and the apple airport extreme. Both my desktop and laptop pc so I'm not sure if that effects the outcome. I am going to need a usb port for an ext hdd, which all of them have. All of the routers have a 5hz signal for better streaming. Would I be able to use the apple airport? It seems the have the best reviews. But I question the compatibility and some of the reviews due to possible fanboyism. Also, If I connect my desktop to the router via a crossover cable and have an ext hdd hooked into the router can I transfer files to the ext hdd and stream that data over a 5 hz signal?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2911 / Block All Traffic But Allow One Way Data Transfer?

Feb 5, 2013

I am trying to connect a Control network that can not have access to the Internet, or any other network for that matter, to my Admin network so that I can retrieve trend data about the plant that goes into a database. Right now the process is print information, hand jam into excel spreadsheet, print again, and hand jam into another excel spreadsheet on the other network. Reports are printed automatically once a day, but would like a simplified way of getting data from one network to the other without having to re-enter data several times. Current policies stipulate no USB drives connected to Control systems. Even if we could loosen that, personnel needed to transfer data is not available and going to each individual machine would take more time than current system. Now that background is laid, I have two 2911 ISR routers with EIGRP configured, each with a 4 port EHWIC card. The 3 L3 ports on the router are setup as follows: interface G0/1 to the internet, interface G0/2 to a wireless  back haul, and interface G0/0 for IT network. I then have 3 VLANs setup on the EHWICs for our Admin network. We will move the IT network to a VLAN on the remaining EHWIC port and connect the two 2911's through the G0/0 interface. I am going to have one computer on my Administration network dedicated to receiving the information and have a program that will take that data and import it to a database. I need to allow only that computer to receive traffic from the Control network and I need no traffic to flow back into the Control network. In other words I will transmit data from the control network to the admin computer using one protocol (TFTP more than likely) and block any other traffic coming out of and going into the Control network.

Home Network :: Setting Up A Direct Link Between 2 PCs For File Transfer

Mar 28, 2012

I have been trying to get this setup for 2 days now and so far NADA.....

Router: Linksys E3000 - below is a list of all devices connected (hardwired T568B) to the 4 ports with a laptop connected via wireless

1. Main PC - motherboard: ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z (dual GB LAN ports)
2. Media Server - motherboard: MSI Z68A-GD80 (dual GB LAN ports)
3. Test Bench AMD PC
4. WD TV Live

Currently: I have all 3 computers running Windows 7 and connected to a Homegroup. I have given the correct permissions to enable sharing of files between each of the 3 computers and can transfer files from one PC to the next w/o any issues.

Desired: I want to connect my Main PC and Media Sever with a crossover cable using the 2nd LAN port on each motherboard, so that I don't have to go through the router to transfer data to and from these 2 PCs. I will have each PC also connected to the Linksys E3000 router via the 1st LAN port on each motherboard to supply the internet connection, so I am also not trying to "share" an internet connection between these 2 PCs. Basically, I want to run my home network through the Linksys E3000 and then a 2nd network for the 2 PCs using the crossover cable.

Current Problem: I disconnected the straight-through cables from the router to each computer from the 1st LAN port. I then connected the crossover cable from the Main PC to the Media Server and setup a new Home network in the Network and Sharing Center in Windows 7. Everything worked and I could transfer data to and from each these 2 PCs, so i know I wired the crossover cable correctly. Then I reconnected the straight-through cables coming from the router to the 1st LAN ports of each mobo, thinking that each PC would auto-detect the internet connection and reacquire my existing home network, enabling an internet connection again. However, this did not happen.

[URL] I also followed this how-to guide on microsoft.com, but when I get to Step 3 where it says that an "Unidentified network icon" will aprear in the Network and Sharing Center, it does not!

From Googling, reading, and troubleshooting I believe I know 2 things:

1. All of the hardware is functioning properly - when the straight-through cables from the router are disconnected, the 2 PCs are networked through the crossover cable and files can be transferred.

2. The problem is with Windows 7 somewhere - I think?
