Datagram Fragment Is Too Small

Sep 6, 2012

I use Mac OS and connect to a wireless network at work, along with two other PC computers running Windows 7.Recently when I connect to the network, the other two computers (which also run F-Secure) get a message stating "A suspiciously small Datagram Fragment was detected".I have recently updated to OS 10.8 Mountain Lion, which seems to be when these messages started appearing.if it is my computer, should it happen and/ or is it an issue?

Cisco WAN :: 2911 - Test Load On Line / Big Datagram Size?

I am pinging across the Wan to test the circuit and it is pinging fine with the default extended ping 5 repeat count and 100 Datagram size. I was told that I need to up the repeat count to 1000 and the datagram size to 17999 to test the line. Also when performing this test Txload is 255/255.Is this really needed to test the load on the line, that big of a datagram size?

Setting Up A Small LAN

Oct 14, 2012

I'm wanting to setup a small LAN in my office between 3 PC's for internet, file and printer sharing.each of the PC's has it's own printer connected to it and the idea here is to allow each of the PC's to have access to all printers at any time. Two of the PC's are running WinXP and one is based on Windows 7 Professional. The internet being used in our office is a shared 3G USB dongle (which we currently have to keep moving from one PC to another as the need be), so I'd like that when one PC is connected, all PC's should have access to the internet from that PC. (I would not like to connect the 3G USB dongle into the router).

Set Up Small Business Network?

Nov 16, 2012

I'm involved in setting up a new office for a business that's just starting out. I have some computer experience but not a whole lot in networking and security. We just have 3 people that will be working in the office and we need a way to store/backup/share files on the network as well as a way to access them remotely if need be. Our internet service is going to be providing us with a static IP. I was thinking that we could use an NAS with RAID 1 attached to the router, which is in turn connected to the cable modem, but I'm not sure if this is secure. Do we need some type of hardware firewall in between the cable modem and the router to protect us from the outside?

New Router For Small Server?

Dec 8, 2012

My father has a small office at home with a server, used to store some files and software he uses and provide a stable network for the house. The network looks something like this:

-Our wall socket line runs to a modem we have from our ISP

-The modem then is connected to our server computer

-Which is in turn connected to a switch

-...where the computers and a router are connected to

This was set up by some computer company. Now for the question: we have used the router connected to the switch to connect wirelessly to the server to receive emails on our mobile phones (email runs via the server too). Also, my father syncs his Outlook diary on his phone this way. Apparently this doesn't work when connected to the modem, I guess because that signal hasn't been processed by the server yet. Now we are unable to connect to the router, presumably because it is quite old and ready for a replacement.

The question is: Can I just replace it with some random router and expect it to work? Or do I need a more specific router/more specific settings in the router to make this work again?

Now, I am planning to buy 2 more computers and a printer. The printer will be shared by all 3 computers. what else I need to buy (modem?? wireless router??) and what type. I also request that you let me know how to set it up. Of course, I will follow the manufacturer's instructions.

The wireless network works great for using the internet, but we are having trouble with the wired network. The issue is being able to communicate with all of the computers on the wired network. The ability to speak with all of the computers on the network is hit or miss. Generally, computer A can speak with computer B, C, and D, but D can only speak with A.

Small Office Network Setup?

Feb 21, 2011

I have been tasked with the technology update of our office and have have MAJOR questions which I hope can be answered here, so here goes;

First a little history, I have an electronics degree and a certificate in computer technology, so computers are not something new to me, however networking IS.I have a VERY LIMITED budget to work with, which I'm sure is not unheard of before, with the following equipment already available:

1 MFP currently on lease connected via network
3 totally junk PCs running 3 different versions of Windows from XP to 7
A DSL internet connection
A wireless router
A wired 8 port switch

What I would like to do is begin with a basic server, 7 clients, shared internet on all machines (including external via login), An MFP, at least 1 NAS for data storage, 1 NAS for backup of all drives.

Setting Up A New Network For A Small Business?

Feb 13, 2012

He currently has 1 server, and 11 workstations, he also has a network switch that we will be replacing. We have picked out a Dell server, running Windows Server 2008 R2 that will be used as the main file server, as well as the domain controller. Where I seem to be confused is on setting up the networking component, particularly how the machines will get IP addresses. As mentioned, I will be purchasing a new Ethernet switch, in order to get the fastest LAN speed possible; I have selected the Dell PowerConnect 2816, which is a 10/100/1000Mbs switch. My question is, will I be letting the switch handle the IP's/DHCP or would I be better off, setting up the server for DHCP? If so, do I also setup the server as the DNS server? From what I am reading online using the server as the DHCP/DNS server gives us more management capabilities and is more "secure". As a test, I loaded Windows Server 2008 R2 on a home machine and played around with this. I got a bit lost on the DHCP and DNS setup and it appears that one needs a Static IP from your ISP in order to setup your serve as the DHCP/DNS server for the domain. Is this correct? I haven't been to his office yet to check out all the existing equipment, is it safe to assume that his ISP provides a router or whatever is needed to feed the switch?

Cisco :: SF 300-24 / LMS 3.2 Small Business Switches

Dec 29, 2011

I'm currently using LMS 3.2 to monitor my network. We've recently purchsed a few of the Cisco Small Business Switches, the SF 300-24 model to be exact. They're considered 'managed switches' (tho thier CLI is terrible) and I would like to monitor them in CWLMS. My problem is that once I add it to CS, it doesn't resolve to anything, just sits there as a blue box with a question mark. I'm assuming this means that these devices are not (currently) supported by LMS 3.2 - do you know if that will change, or how I can go about managing this device with LMS 3.2?

Cisco WAN :: C890 Bgp Small Network

Dec 21, 2011

I have a c890 switch is a default gateway for the lan behind it. The router is configured with bgp for 2 providers and local network is /24 rout able network (92.224.1.0/24). I think bgp is configured correctly because I can ping any ip from the router (92.224.1.1), for example I can ping 8.8.8.8.

The problem is that I can not ping anything from the local network, from example I can not ping 8.8.8.8 (Google dns) from 92.224.1.2.

92.224.1.2 has as default gw 92.224.1.1.
92.224.1.2 -> 92.224.1.1 -> BGP 2 ISP's

Network Setup For Small / Medium Office?

Aug 14, 2011

What are the best network engineering practises for a small/medium sized office?Currently I have set it up like this:The top floor has all the sales people, each desk has a hub underneath which connects all computers at that desk together, and the hum is connected to a switch under the floor. There are about about 8 desks each with about 4 computers, so 8 hubs. They all go into a 10/100 switch, which is then connected to an 1gb switch on the bottom floor via a 1gb port on the top floor switch, via a cat6 cable. We then have internet > modem > router > the 1gb switch. Our main server is also connected to that switch along with all the computers for the ground floor, except these computers have 1gb switches under the desks instead of hubs. The main server is the DHCP, DC, DNS and file server. We have also setup another server which acts as a backup DC and is also a DNS server. Is there anything wrong with this configuration? We have been having problems with the router losing connection to the internet and warnings on the main DNS server.

Small Business Physical Wiring Layout?

Sep 24, 2011

I am looking to start a proposal for the smallish business I work for. We have about 65 devices on the network with ~ 12 being VOIP phones. Currently our network consists of 2 cisco 2950's and a bunch of daisy chained consumer 5 port switches. I would like to get a couple of 48 port 2960S or 3XXX series catalysis' and run drops to all the devices. It's an older brick building with beamed 15 foot ceilings. It has a couple of semi-enclosed office spaces, with one large space for all the developers and designers. The plan I have involves running a cable tray down the length of the office and run drops off of the main run. I would like to be as cheap as possible with the cable tray, but it seems like all the trays I have seen are about ~50-100 dollars per 10' (not including mounting hardware). Seems extremely expensive for basically wire baskets.

Logging Network Traffic Of Small Home LAN?

Jun 6, 2011

We have a small download limit every month and keep ramming into only days into our billing period. I am trying to identify the culprit but need to find a way to log the traffic of individual IP address (which are all static) on the network to figure out where all the bandwidth is going. Any (preferably free) application that will allow me to monitor this?

Network Infrastructure:

Modem connected to NetGear N2000 (older model) Router 192.168.0.1
Family Desktop - 0.2 (Ethernet)
My Desktop - 0.3 (Powerline Ethernet)
Brothers Laptop - 0.5 (Wireless)
My PS3 - .0.30 (Wireless)
iPods - (Wireless)

Router only tells me when someone is on and can track total network traffic usage not individual hardware.
