I have a Dell Vostro 3460 laptop that I would like to dual boot with Linux. I can't seem to get the wifi working in linux.
This laptop is listed as "ubuntu ready" but I can't seem to find a driver for it anywhere. I have tried many solutions from all over the linux community but nothing seems to work. It seems like most of the linux driver sets support all the broadcom chips except this one. I need drivers for the bcm43142.
System Configuration:
1. Dell Vostro 3460
2. Window 7 64 bit
3. Wireless adapter : Dell wireless 1702.802.11bg
(Driver : Atheros communication inc Ver 9.2.0.412)
I have installed all necessary drivers but the connection disconnects every 5 mins. I cannot connect even using a LAN cable.
I have changed the power settings from the device drivers (Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power) but the problem persists.
I just bought a brand new dell vostro 3460. for some reson the signal (WiFi signal) is poor and even disconccect from time to time and the internet surf is very slow.
the computer is located at the same place as two others laptop i have (the two others ave perfect signal).
I installed a clean Windows 8 Pro on my Vostro 3460 (HD was wiped beforhand).However, for the WLAN driver is not found.Here is what I did:
- I can confirm that the WLAN component is activated in BIOS. Actually, it worked just fine running Windows 7 until yesterday.
- After a clean Win8 install the missing component is enlisted as "Network Controller"
- Installing the "Dell Dell Wireless 1901 802.11a/b/g/n (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Dell Wireless 1901 Bluetooth" driver from your website (Network_Atheros_W8_A00_Setup-92GWH_ZPE.exe) didn't change anything,, the device is still missing its driver and thus not working.
- I tried to install the drivers coming with the driver CD for Windows 7. No change.
- I tried to install almost any driver on your web site related with WLAN, Vostro 3460 and Windows 8: no success.
Daughter is at college with brand new Vostro 3450. Was working on school network during summer but drops the connection multiple times during the day. She runs the Troubleshooting which then allows her to connect and 30 minutes later the connection is dropped again. The laptop works fine when connected to the internet via the ethernet cable. Here is what has been done by the IT support at the school.
1 - Deleted the Intel wireless utility as they thought it was "fighting" with the Windows software for control over the wireless.
2 - Increased the power for the wireless card to "high performance".
3 - Reinstalled Windows 7 to eliminate that there is a software issue.
4 - Replaced the Intel Wireless Card with new part sent by Dell.
Now the IT supports recommendation is to "get a new system" and that perhaps the Vostro's wireless card is "not compatible with their network". For Dell computers they sell the Latitude to the students.
My daugther likes the Vostro. She doesn't want to give it up. Wants the system to work. She had the laptop during the summer session and had problems with connection. The Windows software was reinstalled thinking there was a virus (although no evidence of one) and then she had no connection problems for the whole summer. She came home for 2 weeks and returned back to school and then the system would not work again.
I don't know what to do. Can I buy a USB wireless adapter for her to temporarily use until I can figure out how to fix this problem. Personally, I think there is a design flaw with the vostro.
I have Dell Vostro 1550 Laptop.Os- window 7 ,32 bit.Earlier I had window 7,64 bit on my laptop ,when I install 32 bit window on it after a clean format, Everything work perfectly except the bluetooth.I tried several bluetooth drivers but none of them fix my problem.I received an error while installing the bluetooth driver that the" system has been modified can't install the driver".when I tried another driver then it says please activate bluetooth first ,when I did so by pressing the function keys then a message appears on the screen saying "starting bluetooth" after few minutes the msg disappears and nothing happens,it doesn't start the bluetooth.

Now, when I type "Fn+F2", just the bluetouth interface start, but the wifi interface not.

I used the drivers CD which also came with the laptop to install the drivers but i am still having trouble with the network controller. On the device manager list it still says its not intalled and as a result i have been unable to use the wireless. When i try to install the wireless drivers an error message comes up saying no compatible hardware found, but the wireless worked fine before the format!

Symptoms: The notebook can't find bluetooth devices and bluetooth devices can't find the notebook.Additionally, trying to turn off the BT adapter from context menu or from mobility center does not work as well.when trying to turn off the BT adapter via Bluetooth settings.
I get an error saying "the following settings were not saved: discovery settings" (attached image)
Things I already tried:Tried updating the drivers, didn't work.
Checked BIOS settings - BT was ON.

I got my WiFi connected with good signal strength and also, LAN cable gets connected. But still the internet is not working. Not able to open any web pages. I don't have any clue. I've checked my modem which is working fine since I'm able to connect to internet through an another laptop. My laptop model is DELL Vostro 1500.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Vostro 3460 laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit. My wireless driver is Dell Wireless 1704.802.11b/g/n. I just got this computer in December, and it worked fine for a couple of months, then about a month ago, I started having these problems.
Whenever I turn off or put my computer to sleep and turn it back on, my wireless connection doesn't work. The wireless indicator light on the front of the laptop is not on, and I push the FN+F2 button (which is supposed to turn on wireless), but it does nothing. I checked under the device manager, and the wireless adapter is not there.
After the first time I ran the diagnostics, I reinstalled the driver. The I restarted the computer, and the wireless was working. However, that night I turned of the computer, and when I turned it back on the next morning, the wireless was not working again.Other things I have discovered that sometimes work as a temporary fix:
Sometimes, if I wait 5 or so minutes, the wireless indicator light will come on, and then I can restart my computer and connect to a network, but most of the time, I can wait for hours and it never comes on.If I start in computer into safe mode or the BIOS screen or diagnostic screen, sometimes the wireless will start working after I exit that mode and start into normal operating. For example, one of the times that I ran the PSA diagnostics, the wireless started working afterwards, but stopped working again the next day. Another time, I started the computer in safe mode with networking to see if that would work, and the wireless did not work while I was in safe mode, but then I restarted the computer in normal mode, and the wireless came on.
One time, I went under Device Manager and did "Scan for Hardware Changes." After that, the wireless indicator light came on, and I restarted the computer and was able to connect to a network.However, all of these solutions were temporary, and some of these solutions only work one time but not again.I called Dell Support a couple of weeks ago, and they said that my antivirus program might be stopping the wireless driver from starting up. I have Trend Micro, which came with the computer.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently received the blue screen and had to do a clean install of Windows XP on my Dell Vostro 1520. I then proceeded to install the Dell drivers and downloads in the order according to Dell's website. But the wireless driver continually gave me a Setup.rul 380 error, so I did a manual install of that. Unfortunately something is still incorrect. The internet connects, but the wireless icon at the bottom has a pop that says "Adapter Problem. Driver is not installed." I don't know a lot about computers and I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but I can't figure this one out.

When I connect directly from the modem to the laptop via the modem it's fine. My problem is that I bought an Advantek wireless router which a friend tried to install, I'm not sure if he was successful at any point as it was some time ago. I tried following the installation order as per the following link but I couldn't install the NSS/DSS as I could not find this download for my Vostro 3700. I also read somewhere that it is not needed for Windows 7, so I left it.
I installed the WLAN 1501 Half Mini-Card (4313bgn) (R270598) driver as this is the wireless card that I have and it installs. The problem I have is that the wireless software and windows says my wireless card's radio is disabled and that I need to switch the radio on using the switch on the laptop. This laptop has a physical switch and no matter if I turn it on or off.. the radio remains off. Even the wireless light above the keyboard does not switch on.The thing is, before the hard drive crashed, my wireless worked fine. Is it possible that the switch broke too, or am I missing some kind of driver or software for the wireless switch.
I am unable to install the driver for my wireless device on my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop running Windows XP Professional. The laptop originally came with Windows Vista Basic edition. I conntected it via my wireless accesspoint to get access to data on my NAS, which is within my home network.Then I noticed that the connection is not stable, although the computer says "excellent signal". Whenever I access files via explorer on the NAS I loose connection from time to time and the reaction time is very slow (sometimes I have to wait seconds).During search for the reason I pinged directly the access point and saw unacceptable slow response with large variation. I checked the connection with an other computer (running XP), using same position. There it works fine (see below) - stable connection.It seems that the configuration of the access point does not work well with the configuration of the Dell computer - or an hardware fault on the Vostro.
