Desktop Can't Connect To Internet But Wireless Devices Can

Oct 31, 2012

I recently shut my computer down overnight, something I never do. When I booted it up the next day I had no internet connection. My computer is a desktop that's hard wired to a router and the modem. My son has a computer and an Xbox, both attached wirelessly to the router. Both of his computers are working mine is not. I keep getting a message saying "network is unidentified", but it won't let me pull up any networks. Its telling me there are no networks in my area. I have tried recycling both the router and modem numerous times, I even tried restoring my system to a date from last wk.

3 Devices - Desktop / Laptop And Xbox - Cannot Connect To Internet

Sep 14, 2012

At home, my current setup is:

1. Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard Cable Modem for internet
2. Rosewill 8 Port Switch RC-406X

And I have:

1. Dell Q6600 desktop running on Windows 7
2. Dell Latitude laptop running on Windows XP
3. Xbox 360

These all need access to the internet.Up until now, everything worked fine. The Motorola modem was connected in Slot 1 and my desktop, laptop and Xbox were all 3 connected into slots 2, 3 and 4.The other day, I accidentally pressed a switch in my home that switched off my modem. Anyway, once everything was reset, things changed.I can no longer be on the internet with all 3 devices at the same time. Either only the laptop can be connected, with the 2 other devices being offline, or just the desktop and not the laptop.Whenever I gain access to the internet via the desktop, it shows as Network 10 and if I try and repair the connection on the laptop, it says it is unable to renew the IP address. If I switch it up and I have access on my laptop but try and have access on the desktop, the network shows up as Unidentified.

Mac Desktop Cannot Connect To Wireless Or Ethernet Internet

Aug 15, 2012

My family just gave me their old Mac desktop, I wiped it clean and then tried to connect to the internet at my house and it tells me I have invalid password for the wireless. I also tried to connect it directly via ethernet cable that works and it will not connect. I want to connect my Mac directly with ethernet. All the other computers with internet work in my house so I know its not the internet. I will post below my computer specs and internet specs which I got from my other windows PC. I've tried manually putting in the ISP and DNS and nothing works.

How To Connect To Internet (also Wireless Networks) On A Desktop

Jul 10, 2011

I'm building a desktop PC from scratch, and since up until now I've always taken this for granted with a laptop, I'm a bit confused what it is I need to connect to the internet. First of all, I live in a student residence, so up until now I was able to just use an ethernet cable, connecting the wall to my laptop to gain access to the internet service I'm paying for, an I was also able to connect to wireless networks. So my question is what do I need to buy to get the same connectivity?Do I need to buy a network card, so that I will be able to connect from the wall to my computer and gain access to the internet (not wireless), or do motherboards have that capability already these days? This is the motherboard I'm buying, and if I buy a network card, this is probably the one I'm going with. Or should I go with one that has the IEEE 802.1p, as well?

And then for the gaining access to wireless networks part. Do I just buy a router and that's it? For example, would buying just this router enable me to connect to wireless networks? Or can I just buy this PCI adapter?Would it also be possible to go from the wall directly to the router, then to the computer gain access to both the non-wireless and wireless networks?

Connect Desktop To Wireless Internet Wifi Hotspot?

Jan 20, 2012

1st. I have a desktop and nearby there is wireless internet WiFi hotspot. How can I connect it to the wireless internet WiFi? I am thinking of buying this: http:[url]....Apart from that adapter do I need something else?

2nd. Where the desktop is, I have no reception. I mean because my cellphone has no reception when it is in the same place where the desktop is. But when I put my cellphone in the window around 12 feet away, there is reception. So I am wondering if I can make a 12 feet long USB cable from the desktop to the window and with the Wifi/WLAN Wireless Network USB Adapter in the window.

My son just moved back in with us and we can not figure out how to get his Acer Aspire AX1300 desktop to commect to our internet. When we do network search it pulls up our internet no problem. When we hit the connect button it comes up with a box with 2 options 1. add add'l information or 2. connect to another network.when we click the conect and add addl info it comes up with another box wanting us to list username, password and logon domain. We have tried adding our passcode and network id, but it does not work. He also has an Acer laptop, all he did was turn it on and search for the network then put in the key and password and it was connected. I believe both the CPU and the laptop are using windows vista. How to get his laptop connected to our network and have internet access?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT120N Get Better Internet Connection / Have More Capacity To Connect Different Devices

Jul 10, 2012

Reciently I bought a WRT120N Router to get a better internet connection and to have more capacity to connect different wireless devices, because the modem from my internet provider company is extremely restrictive.
I use an iMac, a Notebook with Windows 7 and a Netbook with Ubuntu 11.04, besides different devices (iPhone, iPod, PS3, Kindle). Although when I configured the router I connected every devices simultaneasly, with better signal quality than before, after using it for a couple of days I found that it disconnects itself, I can't access internet, and my only solution it's to switch it off and on.

Wireless Devices Can't Connect To Wired Devices?

Oct 11, 2012

All of a sudden my laptop, android phone and blu ray player (all wireless devices) can't communicate with my wired devices (marantz receiver and samsung tv). Everything still connects to the internet independently but i can't for instance play music from my wireless laptop to my wired marantz receiver. I had no trouble with this last week and didn't change anything (that I'm aware of) I did get Verizon to switch out my router but it didn't solve anything. My wife's computer also cannot connect to wired devices. Lastly, if I connect my laptop with via ethernet cable it sees wired devices fine. I tried shutting off windows firewall but didn't work. I have no other firewall/virus software installed. I can ping to all devices (wired and wireless) from my laptop.

Desktop Will Not Connect To The Internet At Home

For a little background, my son installed a router for a couple of months and when he disconnected his computer I lost connectivity with my desktop. The router is gone, I am directly connected to the modem. Seems like the ip address reverts back to the address that the router assigned for 30 seconds then to 169. ........ I have tried all sorts of fixes that I have found on the net, but none have worked. Have changed modems, ethernet cables, ISP has also tried but nothing has worked.

Will A Desktop Pc Connect To Internet On Wifi

I have a wireless network now but my desktop is hard wired via ethernet to the wireless router. I have DSL service now through my ISP. My question I guess is do I have to have a land line at my new location to connect my desktop to the internet or is the wireless technology built in and the ethernet cable is superfluous? I hooked up everything myself for my home network but just followed directions, so I have no clue what everything does. I just wondered about the desktop being able to connect to the internet. D-Link DIR-600 :: Not All Devices Connect To Internet

I have just switched to a new internet provider (UnityMedia in Germany) and they provided me with a CISCO cable modem (EPC3208G) and a 'wireless N 150 Home Router DIR-600' (hardware Bx and firmware 2.13). I had to ring the service desk to complete set up. I was told to connect the LAN cable (from the modem) into LAN number 1 rather than 'internet' (in the router). I was also told to change the router IP address to Thereafter the connection to the internet was established (they also asked me to make some other changes which I can no longer recall). However after the phone call with the D-link service desk I attempted to connect my other internet enabled devices (kindle, internet radio and smartphone) and apart from one other laptop nothing can connect to the internet.
