High Ping And Packet Loss During Online Games?

Jan 24, 2013

about 4 weeks ago we started experiencing Packet Loss and High Pings while playing games. This affects our 2 PC's and our PlayStation 3 (Since we use them for gaming). We have contacted our ISP several times regarding the issue but each representative we have talked to has had different ideas of what the problem is. They replaced the modem twice which did nothing, so I then purchased 2 new Router's (DIR 601 N150 & DIR 835 N750+). Neither of them solved the issue. my ISP also says it isn't the Internet Cable that is causing the issue. My Download Speeds and Upload Speeds are right where they should be but the ping and the packet loss is the problem. I also contacted DLINK (Router Manufacturer) to see if they had and all we did was upgrade the firmware version and change the Wireless channels which also did nothing. I have plugged this PC into the modem with an Ethernet Cord and played games and all the issues were gone which leads me to believe that Modem and the ISP aren't the issue.

Things I've Tried:

-Resetting the Modem
-Testing each Wireless Channel on my Router
-Enabling and Disabling 802.11n and 802.11g on the router
-Changing the QoS settings
-Installing Software such as Gamebooster and Advanced System Care
-Disabling all Antivirus programs and Firewalls on the PC's
-Using a friends Modem instead of the Cogeco one

High Latency / Ping In Online Games

Jan 4, 2012

So I am at a bit of a loss here. For the past week or so, I have been getting random spikes of high latency in online games like World of Warcraft/Star Wars: The Old Republic/League of Legends/etc and I have no idea what could be causing it. My ping used to run around 30-80 and lately is has been spiking from 100 to over 700 randomly. I have tried everything I could think of like not using my router, power cycling my modem several times, making sure my drivers are updated, no programs in the background causing it, no firewalls/anti-virus programs causing it, and several other little things like that. I have also called my ISP and they said everything seems to be working fine. And here's another weird thing, according to speedtest.net, my service is running as it should be: [URL]. The server my service is connecting to is in the next town over which is ~15 minutes away so that couldn't be it either.

Here is my system specs:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 4

High Ping And Packet Loss In Game?

Nov 3, 2012

I recently moved from an old apartment in Downtown Montreal, to a suburb area, but still close to where I was before (10 km). I am using the same ISP provider, Videotron. The same speed. I was playing games perfectly fine before, but now something is really wrong. Whenever I join a server, my ping skyrockets up to close to 200, sometimes drifting to 130 but never going below... and often rising back up again.Keep in mind that I filter servers by their pings. I only join servers that display a low ping (although often I won't see any, when I refresh.. there they are). I'll see a server with 30 ping, join it, and be at 200. I'm mainly trying to play Chivalry Medieval Warfare. It's entirely unplayable. Not only is it impossible to properly time parries anymore, but I also get a lot of rubberbanding. I've tested the internet here, and the speeds are accurate. 10 mbps down, 1 mbps up. I am connected to a Linksys E1200 router. I've tried everything I can possibly think of.I went into the router setup, disabled the firewall, added myself to a DMZ, tried to forward every port for steam (although it didn't seem to recognize it as a program)... rebooted the modem, my computer, the router, tried a different Ethernet cable.. nothing is working. It's very depressing. Nothing has changed on my own computer in the move.

Packet Loss On Shooting Games But Not WoW

Jan 25, 2013

But I have finally diagnosed the problem. When I try to play games like Combat Arms, Arma II /OA, BF3 and run a ping test on pingtest.net my ping is steady, and my jitter is fine but the packet loss is ridiculous! I will have a packet loss of 90-100% causing the game to be unplayable. But when I run this test playing WoW I have 0% packet loss, steady ping, and good jitter. I am completely lost on what to do, other than contact my useless ISP that will not know what to do. I am really frustrated by this and am not sure what the cause of this is or what to do. I have been researching for over a week and have no where else to turn.

High Packet Loss - Long Round Trip (only One Laptop)

Jan 14, 2012

I have a home (wireless) router. All computers have had good internet access for awhile. Yesterday, one particular laptop (Sony Vaio Z2) started intermittently having a poor connection. I've pinged the router (192.168.1.1) and it shows high packet loss and long round-trip times. Another laptop sitting right next to it (the one I'm on now) does just fine (no packet loss, round trips 1 ms or less).

What procedure can I go through on the Vaio, to figure out why its not working? Just before the trouble, I had updated the various drivers, but I really don't look forward to rolling them all back..

Cisco :: Packet Loss Due To Ping Priority

Feb 12, 2013

When I ping my video streaming host's IP address (the IP that they gave me where I can view my IP web camera's video stream), I get anywhere from 0% to 8% packet loss at various times of the day. They're claiming that there's no problem, that this is because this is a router and it's dropping ping packets due to "ping priority giving preference to more important network traffic."

Connecting To Different Online Services And Games

Jan 14, 2013

Problems connecting to different online services and an online game.Examples:

1.) "Connection timed out" in Teamspeak 2. (debug log not really yielding much useful information).
2.) Torchlight 2 reported "Connection failed - Firewall errors detected."

almost all other online applications work just fine (including voice over ip and games)What I've tried (without any success):

1.) I could connect in either case using my old laptop! Thus it works on a different computer, from the same network, at the same/similar time. Thus I concluded it must be somehow related to this laptop (its a new laptop).
2.) The TS2 server & entered information is 100% working, same applies to torchlight2 - also latest updates installed and of course the game is totally legal.
3.) Windows firewall: all the mentioned programs are on the allowed list. Also check whether its correctly set to "home network". Futhermore I also tried disabling the windows firewall entirely.
4.) No other firewall program in use.
5.) Check all programs I know of which might be related to network traffic (e.g. Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Manager - disabled it).
6.) Tried both, wireless and ethernet cable connection.
7.) Tried all common solutions from similar problems from the forums of the affected programs (e.g. teamspeak2 and torchlight 2 forums).
8.) I even tried running the game, torchlight 2, via Tunngle (explained in a layman's words: a program that simulates Lan over the internet).

Its a new laptop. Network card is labled as "Killer e2200 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.Runs Windows 7 and did start out empty: i.e. I installed every single program running on the machine and as far as I know none of them should have anything to do with network. Virus scanner is the lastest version of AVG free (no firewall included).

Constant Disconnects In Online Games?

Feb 6, 2011

I've recently been being disconnected or dropped in multiple online games, but this is mostly aimed at World of Warcraft, It can be fine for hours or even days but it often comes to a point where I can't stay online for more then 10 seconds. The thing is, it works fine if I connect directly to the modem with out the router, but I have the same problem with 3 different routers including a rather expensive new one I just got.

- The Problem persists on multiple differnt computers with differnt OS and anti viruses

- I've forwarded all the necessary ports

- I've updated all the routers firmware

- I've adjusted my networking card

- I've power cycled the router many times

Strange Disconnection Only On Online Games

Jul 6, 2012

Basically I started disconnecting when I logged onto Blacklight Retribution after a recent game patch, after a few days the problem stopped and I was able to play again (with no changes to my computer) a few days later another patch was added and the problem occurred again, at first I thought it was a Blacklight specific problem (as this was my only installed game) however i installed a few other games (Kabold Online, Perfect World, Forsaken World, TF2, MW2 and C9) and I got the same problem on each of these games. I haven't been able to log onto a single Online game for more than 5 minutes, normally I'm disconnected at login, HOWEVER, my internet works completely fine in for everything else, i can browse the web, download game clients etc with no problem whatsoever.(Forgot to add, When i disconnect my LAN Cable mysteriously Unpluggs itself (according to computer) and a disable/enable in network manager reconnects it)

- Checked to see if drivers were up to date (they were)
- Rolled back NIC Driver (and put it back when this didn't work)
- Checked device manager for any problems with my NIC, (working as normal apparently)
- Tried setting my NIC to 100mbps Full Duplex
- Setting my power options to not interfere with NIC
- Had a DHCP error in my event logs so i set my gaming machine to a static IP
- Turned of UnUP, Turned on DMZ
- Turned off "Green Ethernet"
- I had other Errors in the form of a service stopping my NIC
- Phoned ISP, Everything is OK there end but they sent out a new router, but problem still occurs
- Noticed that a service was sending a stop control to my NIC, looked on forums for fixes and applied several of them
- Reformatted computer with old XP (switched from windows 7), updated, installed latest drivers etc and still same problem except now I don't get anything in event viewer when the problem occurs.

The only thing i haven't tried is replacing my NIC, but considering the internet works completely fine for everything but Online games I'm unsure how this could be the problem.

Online Games Connectivity Drops Periodically

Mar 22, 2012

I can install things, run CCleaner, and do other basic tasks. I've been stumped about this issue for months and after repeated, and failed, attempts to resolve it via the ISP. I've done searches via Google, this website, and all the other places I can think of, so hopefully I didn't miss a solution to my problem. When playing games online, my internet connection will occasionally drop for 5-8 seconds, every 5-10 minutes. Sometimes, the game will allow me to reconnect after a short lag spike. Other times, I must meet a breakpoint for getting booted, and I'll have to leave the game.

90% Fail Rate Connecting To Online Games?

Jun 23, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT54G V8 and I share network with my brother. We're both connected to the router by wire. The problem is with online games (such as LoL or Diablo 3) where I fail to connect 90% of the time. This happens while trying to log in or creating/connecting to a game.I've already tried to port forward but it doesn't seem to work since ports still show as closed (also set to a static IP) when I check online.Edit: I forgot to add that my brother can connect to games just fine.

1) Restarting my router. Doing so allows me to log/connect to games normally for a minute or two, but after that time the problems come back. This is incredibly annoying though and it also disrupts the net for my brother.

2) Connecting directly to the modem. I can only do this if I'm alone, which isn't often.

My system specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
MB: Asus M4A88T-V EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU: Geforce 560 GTX Ti
RAM: 1x4GB Kingston

Dell :: Studio XPS 7100 Suddenly Drops Online Games

Aug 9, 2012

It was fine, online games like ARMA2 and Everquest2 worked w/o fail (for hours and hours).

My son went to get on one day and the ARMA game would let him sign in, then drop him. I told him it was the game as it is a bastardized program from several programmers and i just assumed it was a software issue. Then I decide to get on Everquest2 and it does the same thing to me, you log in, you get started and 1 min later in drops you. Both his game and mine give you a "server not found" error even when you were just online and playing. Everquest even starts looking for "log in servers" 1-6 and fails on all. I can log off and get right in again, but only for 1 to 2 min. then dropped.

My other internet connections work fine. Sony PS3, no problems....my wifes Dell laptop, no problems, my other Dell (while playing ARMA2 and Everquest2) no problem.

Belkin Wired Ethernet Router / Losing Connection With Online Games

Nov 3, 2011

I've recently replaced my router with this Belkin (F5D7230uk4) Router, (this one without the wireless reciever Whenever it's used for online gaming, either on my computer, my playstation 3, or my brothers computer the router will lose connection after about 5minutes, then return within about 30 seconds. This happens every single time without exception, and have not been able to play for longer than 10minutes on any occasion since changing the router. I've tried connecting straight to the modem and it all functions correctly with no problems, so I am certain that it is something that needs to be setup with the router. I've searched many forums and posts from people having similar problems, and followed instructions to disable router firewall, disabled UPnP and NAT etc with absolutely no success whatsoever.
