on how I can get my employees to use a share drive on an external drive for our company.. All employees are located in different locations. What products do you recommend and will I need any permission from my internet provider to allow this?
View 11 RepliesI have a Western Digital 500GB external hard drive and I want to know how can I share this particular drive throughout my house?Currently, it's connected via USB on my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop computer. In the medium term, I will consider getting an wireless router that has a USB port on it - so that way, I won't need to have my Windows 7 desktop computer to be on all the time - just to share my external hard drive.I also plugged in this particular external hard drive on APC backup UPS - so that way, if the power goes out - I can safely shutdown my system - until the power goes back on.As for the wireless router, I currently have the Linksys E2500 dual-band wireless N router - to share my computers with a single internet connection via Cable TV. how do I share my external hard drive on my network. What are your other suggestions on the best way to share an external hard drive?

It has a generous 500 GB of storage, but I'd like to store non-essential files on, an external hard drive. However, lugging around 3 TB of storage isn't exactly feasible, and with my experience with my current 1.5 TB portable drive, me running around everywhere with it bouncing in my bag is just going to abuse it until it stops functioning (which it has...)[URL]

This is for work purposes (specifically for a small business that I design for). Is this doable? I've been using Dropbox but that's proving too problematic as more and more files need to be managed. I would prefer it not be through software that has to be running on a computer, as there is no "machine" running 24/7 here besides the router itself.

But I can ping and I can access web base go inside Network Share drive management. But when I try to ma \sharedrivenamefolder, "Error code 0x80070035 Network path was not found ". I already restart the network drive, router and this computer also cannot. Last time we using vbscript to set at startup and let it map automatically when window boot up every day. Both computers are located in the living room and the wireless external drive is located in the office along with our wireless router and printer. I have no issues connecting to the router or printer, however it is extremely slow when I connect to the external drive if I can even get it to connect. My husband has no issues connecting to the external drive. I don't understand.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am not sure whether this is the right category to which I should submit my question, but I couldn't find a section for "other software support" or anything like that.I am running Windows SBS 2003 at one of my clients and we are using Syncback as the backup software to backup important files and folders that gets written to the server on a daily basis.Now we are using two external drives for this purpose, alternating the two every second day, for improved security.However...I have set up the backup profiles exaclty with the same configurations and everything...everything is identical. But the backup to one of my drives does not want to perform giving the error : "the folder on the destination drive does not exist and can't be created"The folder does exist though, and what puzzles me is that running the backup manually or even copying files manually from the same server backup folders to the drive works perfectly, but when running the scheduled backup, it fails...and yes, the logon and authentication is set to "run as administrator" and the username and password is entered correctly.Like I said, the configs of the two drives are exactly the same, and the backup to the other drive works perfectly.I am using the Syncback free version, and support for the free version on the 2Brightsparks website is unavailable

Last week I upgraded my "fileserver" and I am running OS X Mountain Lion Server on a regular Mac Pro tower. When I connect to my new fileserver via Finder I am only able to see the local hard drives but none of the external ones. I can add a share-point for the external drives but that is not very practical since I am always connecting different drives from the archive.
So what I would like to have is that when I plug in an external drive to my file server it shows up in the network shares without me having to create a share-point for every different drive I connect.
I want to share any folder or drive only one user amongst 20 at windows xp.How?

I have a Linksys ea3500 router to which I have connected a WD My Book external drive via the USB port. When I view the router's webpage, I can see my drive listed under the storage tab; however, I cannot map the drive on my laptop. Whenever I try to do so, it gives me the 0x80070035 error. If I run the Windows diagnostic, it tells me the drive will not accept the connection.

There is a USB port on my DPC3827 gateway device, and I'm trying to figure out if/how I can share an external portable hard drive I've connected to it. It's formatted FAT32. There are no places in the admin pages to configure storage sharing options.
