View 1 RepliesHaving problem locating why when a user logs on to their profile, their personal network drive shows everyones personal drive file and they have acces to all files. This is a major security concern as uppper management files are then accessable. It is random, may not always be displayed, or always occur on the same user. The User drive normally displays.
joed on \serverusers$ (H:)
When this takes place the users name is replaced with just Users Users on \serverusers$ (H:) (This can sometimes change to Z drive)
This then exposes all user drives. This does not run from a script but is used in AD under the profile drive letter. Have tried to:Rebuild profile in Active Directory. (New Profile)Re Build user profile on workstation>Rebuild Operating system on Workstation.Change drive on the user profile in AD letter H to Z.Have also tried on a different workstation.
I need to share a folder on a machine to make a scheduled backup from a server. How can I give access to the server Administrator only?
I want to share the My Documents folder from an XP machine with ONLY one user (the administrator) on a networked Win 7 machine. I have turned off simple sharing on the XP machine. I hate XP!! So complicated to do anything. Anyway, under security, I have tried share this folder, and not to share folder. I have gone into Advanced and messed around with permissions, taking out Everyone, using Admin only, using Network. At one point I ended up not being able to access My Documents on the local computer and had to jump through many hoops to change ownership and disable read only so that the user could use her own files! The problem is, under Advanced in the permissions area, I cannot see the users on the remote pc to choose which one should be allowed access. how to actually find a particular user on the Win 7 pc and give ONLY that user permission to read (not to change) the files in My Documents on the XP pc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 2003 SP2 server with a shared folder. This folder is accessed by 2 people on a regular basis. The problem we are experiencing is when a folder is created by user A, it cannot be moved by user B (and vice versa), as it says the folder is in use.The exact error is: Error Moving File or Folder.Cannot move <filename>: Access is denied.Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.I have explicitly set full control for both users on the folder. The drive has 70GB of 500GB remaining. I have also used File Server Management to verify the files were not in use when they were being moved. The server is Windows 2003, SP2. Domain environment, with all relevant users having permissions on the folder, and the everyone account removed. Any other operation inside the shared folder works fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop pc, and a laptop both connected to wireless internet in a house with about 5 other computers getting internet off of the same wireless router.A while back I had figured out how to share my printer which is wired to my desktop, with my laptop but without sharing any files and figured i had done it.Today I had to figure out why the printer had stopped printing from the laptop and i noticed that in the network area of the explorer I could see my users files on the desktop from my laptop and vice versa. I have been trying everything that seems to be there to disable sharing these files, other then disconnecting from the internet.
On my desktop I can right click on the users folder and choose share>share with nobody. I did that.I also went into the advance sharing options on both devices and tried disabling everything but network discovery. From what I gather discovery is just letting me browse, and not actually showing me that things aren't available to share. So with everything else turned off, like file and printer sharing, all that other stuff, I can STILL see and move and use the files that I have "shared with nobody" even regardless of the fact that I have disabled printer and file sharing. Both machines are running Windows 7
So stupid old copy machine in office only recognizes an IP address to send scans to.Detail:We've had an old slow XP box hooked up on the network as that IP address and it works fine... scan on copy machine and it sends it to a folder on that desktop. Everyone gets scans from that folder from a mapped drive on their esire:Want to nix the XP box and put a share folder on my WinServer2003 box (which I already set up and set permissions on).n I set on my network (and how) for IP (192.168.1.199) to go to that share folder now instead of a PC with that IP#?

The shared folder's name is OFFICE.Whenever I type \SERVEROFFICE in a windows explorer window, I get a pop up window with a message that says that Windows does not find \SERVEROFFICE.I mean, I should be able to see the folder in this way because this OFFICE folder is shared and I am doing this from the same computer and not from another computer in the LAN.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Win 7 Pro x32. When I use RDP to connect to another computer, I noticed that on the remote computer (sometimes) as well as on my local machine (always), it creates a "Z:" drive. It isn't like a mapped network drive though, it shows under Hard Disk Drives. The free space is the same as the C: drive. When you open it, it is the %TEMP% folder on my machine. Going to the run command and typing %TEMP% will show you the same contents as the Z: drive. When I close the RD Connection, the Z drive goes away. I have no clue what is causing this and I did a little searching and couldn't find anything that resembled anything close to this online. I saw the same thing happen on a Win XP machine earlier as well.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop and a laptop. I'm trying to share my external HD from my desktop, to my laptop. What I did was gave the local administrators group full share permissions to the drive, and of course the local administrators group also has full NTFS permission. That being said, I went to my laptop and did a Code:net use X: \mydesktopexternal /user:mydesktopuser PasswordExternal is the share name for the external HD on my desktop. The command worked successfully, however, I am still getting Access Denied when trying to get inside of this mapped drive. How and why does the command map the drive properly, using those credentials, but there's no access when trying to navigate to it? It works if I give Everyone full share permission, but I don't want anyone to just connect to it. Use password protection file sharing is enabled, but of course with "Everyone" given permission, that won't apply (at least to my knowledge).

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to share a specific folder via LAN and enable permissions.More specifically, I'd like to share this laptop (Win 7 OS) with my Android PMP and Linux laptop (Mint OS) and grant it "full control" (read and write permissions) without granting "Everyone" control and without adding separate users with pw onto this laptop.(scroll to end of the post to skip details)Let's say the folder that I want to share is called "Bouncy." I right-clicked on "Bouncy", clicked on "Preferences", then enabled " Share.."to "Network Path: \MYCPUNAMEBouncy" and allowed Guest and Homegroup read/write privileges. From my Linux, I "Connected to Server" but couldn't connect.Under "Advanced Sharing" in Windows 7, I clicked "Share this folder" and created a profile under "Share name" => "Share name: Bouncy".I can connect from the Linux, but can't write to the Win 7 folder.
In "Advanced Sharing", under "Permissions for Bouncy", the "Group: Everyone" only has Read permissions. I clicked on "Add" and "Selected the object type: Users, Groups, or Built-in security principles" "From this location: MYCPUNAME". Under "Enter the object names to select" I wasn't quite sure what to write, so I clicked on "Advanced". The search results from "Find names" with these settings yield a ton of names that I'll omit. I first clicked on "MYNAME" in "My Folder": "MYCPUNAME". No access from Linux.I then changed the permissions to "Network", allowed full control permissions and now was able add files from my Linux. Which is good. How do I make it so that only a few specific IP addresses or Users (PMP and Linux laptop) have full control? How do I make it so that a password is required to access from LAN with full control?

I have created a share of the entire hard drive which I have mapped on all three computers. Basic connectivity seems to be working fine. From each computer, I am able to read and write to the disk. In Itunes however, I created a library including everything I want to share, but Itunes is unable to save the library. When I check security options on the hard drive, I see that it is owned by an unknown user and I am unable to change ownership of the drive. The owner is listed as "Account Unknown S-1-5-21 plus a long string of numbers) I think that if I can take ownership of the drive, I can get iTunes to save the library. how I can change the account ownership of the storage drive? View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying map the USB hard drive connected to my EA4500 router as a network drive in Windows 7, and it works perfectly until I enable secure folder access on the router.
After enabling secure folder access, and not changing any other settings on the router I first unmount the drive since it was set up without credentials and doesn't work that way any more. When I try to remap the drive I use the same address, but select "Connect using different credentials" When it prompts me for the log in info I try using the router admin account, but it fails to connect. Windows network diagnostics tells me the device refused the connection. I proceeded to set up an account on the router under the folder access settings with the same username, and password I use on my computer, and tried to connect it without checking "Connect using different credentials" (And typing them in manually if that matters) with the same results.
Even with secure folder access enabled I can still reach the drive just fine by typing "ftp://192.168.1.1/" into file explorer. It prompts me for a username and password, I put in the admin credentials, and I'm in. Even the account I created with the same username/password as my computer works this way.
After disabling secure folder access everything works perfectly fine again... I would MUCH rather do this with it though.
Following these directions: [URL] When clicking the browse button the router shows up when secure folder access is disabled, but does not after it is enabled. I've looked through my windows sharing settings, and haven't noticed anything that should cause problems, pretty much everything is enabled. I've also tried turning off my firewall with no success.
