Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 CIFS Doesn't Work For Share Folder On Windows Server 2008 R2

Jun 26, 2010

I am using ASA5520 with webvpn for file sharing. But recently we just upgraded the OS that accommodate file shared folder from win2003 R2 32bit to windows server 2008 R2 64bit. Now I have a problem with accessing file share by ASA webvpn, it appears error contacting host, we have tested the file shared of webvpn on the other OS windows 2003 and windows 2008, they are working on these OS except win2008 R2. Current the ASA OS version is 8.0(2). And the windows firewall has been disabed.

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 Identity Based Firewall Doesn't Work Using Citric Published

Jul 26, 2012

We are using the newest release of AD Agent (1.0.0.32.1, built 598). The ASA Firewalls 5520 are having the software release 8.4(3)8 installed. When somebody tries to connect thru the Identity based firewalls from a citrix published desktop environment (PDI) the connection is not possible. Checking the ip-of-user mapping on the firewalls (show user-identity ip-of-user USERNAME) mostly doesn't show the mapping of the USERNAME and the PDI the user is logged in. The user-of-ip mapping of the PDIs IP-address shows mostly other users, which then are used to authenticate the acces thru the firewalls.

What is interesting, that on the AD Agent using "adacfg.exe cache list | find /i "USERNAME"" i can't see the PDIs IP-address neither because it is mapped to another user.Is Citrix Published Desktop environment supported to connect thru Identity based Firewalls? How AD Agent, Domain Controllers and Firewalls are working together? On the firewalls with "show user-identity ad-agent we see, the following:

-Authentication Port: udp/1645
-Accounting Port: udp/1646
-ASA Listening Port: udp/3799

Why Cisco does use 1645 and 1646 and not 1812 and 1813?The Listening Port is used for what purpose? we tried the AD Agent modes full- download and on-demand with the same effect.

Cisco Firewall :: PIX 525 - Windows Server 2008 And PIX Packet Dropping?

Sep 6, 2011

I came across a situation where a client had an old PIX 525 running PIX 6.2.  There was a Windows 2008 R2 server running Exchange 2010 that was having trouble delivering email to a handful of email servers.  We then found out that we could telnet to these servers on port 25 but got no return traffic.  We then went back the old email server that was running Windows 2003 Server and could telnet to port 25 on these email servers and got a response, saw the banner and could issue commands.  The first thought was reverse DNS which we thoroughly checked and it was not.  I turned off the smtp fixup protocol and that didn't fix it either.  From workstations on the network running XP or Windows 7 or Linux you could telnet to these servers and you would get a response but just not with 2008 server.  I spent hours on the phone with Cisco support and it was determined that the packets were returning and we could capture the packets on the outside interface but they were then dropped by the firewall.  Using the 6.2 version of PIX we could not determine why the packets were being dropped.  I suggested upgrading to the next major version to be able to troubleshoot the issue further.  We then upgraded the PIX to version 7.0(8).  After the upgrade we were able to telnet to the problem mail servers from Windows 2008 Server and there were no issues. Is there a know issue with Windows 2008 Server and PIX 6.2?

Server 2008 R2 - Connect And Share Printers?

Sep 11, 2011

Here is what we are trying to do: (server names have been changed to protect the innocent, etc.)3 servers at 3 different locations - all running Server 2008 R2 and all on the same domain

setup:

server01 (has the print server role and printers are shared out)

server02 (has the print server role and printers are shared out)
terminal_server (a terminal server)

We have printers on server01 and on server02 that we need to install on terminal_server.The printers install just fine onto terminal_server from server01 when browsing and connecting or opening the shared printers.

The printers on server02 give thes error message when trying to connect to or open them from terminal_server:"The operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709). Double check and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."However, the printers from server02 will install and work just fine IF I install them as IP printers.

New Share Doesn't Work

Jan 27, 2011

Normally, when one right clicks on a drive letter having opened 'My computer', then select 'Sharing' there is a warning about sharing a whole disk and the option to accept anyway. One laptop doesn't offer that. It just shows the admin share of C$ immediately. If I choose 'New' at the bottom of the panel a new drive letter and drive name can be entered but it can never be accessed over the network! It shows up in the workgroup but I get a network error 'Network path not found' if I try to access it. I can ping the laptop from anywhere by name and IP address. The laptop can access all the other PCs without any problem.

Could Windows 2008 Work As A NAS

Jan 13, 2012

My computer has today 3x2 TB WD Green disks and thay are really slowing my system down so now I need to move them to somekind of NAS.I was first lookin at the "Synology Disk Station DS411j" but then I found that I got some old hardware laying around (AMD 3200+ CPU, 1 GB ram,XFX GeForce 7600GT, Seasonic SS-300FT in a Thermaltake Xaser II chassi). So now I got some questions :

1. I was looking into running FreeNas on my NAS but if the NAS is crashing then it will be alot of work to get the data back? Is it right that its not possible to just mount a drive from the FreeNas in to my Windows7 computer and read the data?

2. If I install Windows 2008(not r2 that demands 64bits CPU) and then uses dynamic volums to get one big volume, what will happen if this Windows2008 craches? will it be able to place one of the disks in my windows7 computer and reda the data?

3. What happens if one disk i a dynamicvolume craches? will all data be lost?

4. Is there any sleepmode in Windows2008? If would be nice if the computer shutsdown at night and startsup when it is about to be used.

5. Will a finished product like the "Synology Disk Station DS411j" demand less power? Will I earn anything to buy the DS411j instead of my old hardware if we look on the economics?

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 L2TP Pass Through To Windows Server

Oct 2, 2012

We have a Cisco ASA 5520

We are attempting to setup RRAS on Windows 2008R2 using L2TP. Server is on the inside of the network at 10.10.10.20 our ASA is 10.10.10.1 its outside interface is 68.0.0.0.3/28.

I set a static NAT rule to allow all traffic pointed at 68.0.0.4 to be directed to 10.10.10.20 and have ACLs allowing the following.
esp, ah, udp/500, udp/4500, udp/1701

Mac Clients have no issues with but windows clients seem to hang and never connect. I know the ASA configuration is somehow to blame, if I attempt to connect to LAN IP (10.10.10.20) from withn the same network every thing works fine (making sure all the Windows Issues are covered). We have 2 other IPSEC tunnels established to teh ASA from our COLO and a Satalite office, not sure if this makes it any harder.

Cisco VPN :: ASA5520 - Getting AnyConnect To Work With New 2008 Radius Server

Sep 14, 2011

We are in the process of upgrading our win2003 radius server with a new win2008 radius server.  We have an ASA5520 and FWSM  in 6509, using anyconnect client.  This has worked fine until we introduced the win2008 radius server.  When in the asdm on the asa, you can click on the new server and click test and authenticate ok with your AD credentials.  But when try to use anyconnect on your laptop, it takes the credentials password and the accept certificate, but then fails with "anyconnect was not able to connect to specified gateway.." message, then "the secure gateway has rejected the connection attempt due to network connectivity issue...host or network is 0" message. We thought we setup the new radius the same way, obviously not.  is therw an easy way to use debug on the firewalls to see what is wrong?  looked in event logs on radius server, have not found anything.

How To Use Windows Server 2008 As Router

Sep 4, 2012

I am involved in a huge project that requires Servers PCs to function as Routers in schools to prevent broadcast traffic issues (Thread here: Need Professional Advice on 3 MANs implementations - Long story short: Can't buy regular routers because of budget and neet to use current equipment to make the network work, that is, Windows Servers 2008 with 2 NICs.

Now to the point. We are making tests but can't make Static routes to work properly. Design is as follows:

Now we have seen that we need to use this command (in cmd) to add a static route in W2008:

route add [NETWORK DESTINATION] mask [SUBNETMASK] [GATEWAY] if [NIC]

Q1: What exact command(s) do we have to use to make the Laptop in 10.10.10.0 to access Internet? How would you fill those fields based on the diagram?
Q2: How many Static routes do we need to declare? I am guessing we just need one, but I have been told that I need to activate two (one for packets sent by the laptop to the router, and one for the packets sent by the router to the laptop?)

We have tried several combinations and can't make laptop to access Internet, not even to ping 192.168.1.5. We have just accomplished pinging to 192.168.1.181 from the Laptop, and to ping 10.10.10.2 from the Server but that's as far as we went.
