Aug 29, 2011
I work as a System Administrator for a small company. Can i share a CD drive to all the computers in my domain. Or does this require any additional software to do all this. Because i tried to do it normally by sharing that CD drive and by which it was also available in my network. But when i was trying to access that it says "The drive is not ready". We use Windows operating system in our network. I even tried to google this but i could not find any exact answer for this till now.

I know this is sort of a stupid question, but I just spent over an hour with a Microsoft Tech Support guy who had absolutely no clue what he was doing. He frequently paused for five minute intervals to "confer with his resources" (I suspect he was reading an outline that told him what to do), and every time I explained that an issue did not work precisely as he expected, he had to put me on hold and talk to someone else. It was hellishly aggravating
I have several computers wirelessly connected through a "LevelOne" access pont. I have a Western Digital 500GB external hard drive and I want to know how can I share this particular drive throughout my house?Currently, it's connected via USB on my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop computer. In the medium term, I will consider getting an wireless router that has a USB port on it - so that way, I won't need to have my Windows 7 desktop computer to be on all the time - just to share my external hard drive.I also plugged in this particular external hard drive on APC backup UPS - so that way, if the power goes out - I can safely shutdown my system - until the power goes back on.As for the wireless router, I currently have the Linksys E2500 dual-band wireless N router - to share my computers with a single internet connection via Cable TV. how do I share my external hard drive on my network. What are your other suggestions on the best way to share an external hard drive?
i have 2 dell computers (and more but just worried about these two for now)... mainpc and sparepc, i had sparepc hooked to my tv and all pc's in the house, and a tv, networked to it... it all worked great, after a few minutes of setting it up... and then the hard drive crashed on spare pc and i got a new one, installed windows again both pc's use the same installation disk both pc's are hooked to a workswitch, which is hooked to a uverse gateway (router)... but it should be noted that hooking everything to wireless changes nothing... i get the same results can reach out to anything in the house and network great... but nothing can connect to sparepc... it keeps asking for username/password, even tho none is set I've gone through all the file sharing, homegroup, and folder options... ive reset ownership on folders and permissions... ive tried making/changing user profiles... but i cannot get from mainpc to sparepc home group does not work because the network does not work. as soon as the network works, homegroup will spring to life (at least, thats what happened the last time) if i right click on a folder, go to properties, share tab, and hit the share button... it asks for permissions for users... i set them, hit share, and it comes up and says, "you cant share this folder" ... with no explanation
Having problem locating why when a user logs on to their profile, their personal network drive shows everyones personal drive file and they have acces to all files. This is a major security concern as uppper management files are then accessable. It is random, may not always be displayed, or always occur on the same user. The User drive normally displays.
joed on \serverusers$ (H:)
When this takes place the users name is replaced with just Users Users on \serverusers$ (H:) (This can sometimes change to Z drive) This then exposes all user drives. This does not run from a script but is used in AD under the profile drive letter. Have tried to:Rebuild profile in Active Directory. (New Profile)Re Build user profile on workstation>Rebuild Operating system on Workstation.Change drive on the user profile in AD letter H to Z.Have also tried on a different workstation.
I am not able to share files with computers past my Client Bridge. I can see one computer past the bridge in my network and two more can see but all have internet, but still can not access ant to get to their shared folders. Do not know if operating systems would made a difference, I main computer run Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. all the rest run XP Home. Have two computers before the bridge no problem there.
I am having a problem with copying files onto my Storage device Connected to my WAG320N, the router is up to date with the latest updates and has been reset in an attempt to overcome this problem. I currently have attached a 2TB Seagate External Hard drive plugged directly into the router formatted in NTFS, and using Windows 7 Bit to access the Routers Webpage and the External Drive.
I am able to set up permissions and access control all okay, so some users can see some folders or have access in Read only or Read and Write Permissions, however I have been using the Admin account when accessing the drive which has Read and Write permissions to all Folders on the Drive. I can create a new document on the Drive (Right click > New > .Docx or .txt) and save file successfully and can view from other computers from the network, however I cannot Copy from any of the computers to the Network drive (e.g.. Copy .txt file from Computer to Network drive), I get the Windows Transfer Dialog and it Calculates Transfer Rate for a while before telling me it's unable to and that I can either select Try Again which comes up with the same error message, or Cancel the transfer. The reason why I want to be able to Copy files to the Network Drive is so I can centralise all the Photos, Videos and other files and documents to be shared to all computers on the network.
