Sharing :: How To Un-share A File Or Folder

Nov 23, 2012

I was having trouble sharing some folders, so I went in and "shared" some individual files. Now when I check what is shared, I not only have the files, I also have the folder they are located in and I don't need both. How do I get rid of the individual file sharing?

Sharing :: How To Share Specific Folder Via LAN And Enable Permissions

Jun 3, 2012

How to share a specific folder via LAN and enable permissions.More specifically, I'd like to share this laptop (Win 7 OS) with my Android PMP and Linux laptop (Mint OS) and grant it "full control" (read and write permissions) without granting "Everyone" control and without adding separate users with pw onto this laptop.(scroll to end of the post to skip details)Let's say the folder that I want to share is called "Bouncy." I right-clicked on "Bouncy", clicked on "Preferences", then enabled " Share.."to "Network Path: \MYCPUNAMEBouncy" and allowed Guest and Homegroup read/write privileges. From my Linux, I "Connected to Server" but couldn't connect.Under "Advanced Sharing" in Windows 7, I clicked "Share this folder" and created a profile under "Share name" => "Share name: Bouncy".I can connect from the Linux, but can't write to the Win 7 folder.

In "Advanced Sharing", under "Permissions for Bouncy", the "Group: Everyone" only has Read permissions. I clicked on "Add" and "Selected the object type: Users, Groups, or Built-in security principles" "From this location: MYCPUNAME". Under "Enter the object names to select" I wasn't quite sure what to write, so I clicked on "Advanced". The search results from "Find names" with these settings yield a ton of names that I'll omit. I first clicked on "MYNAME" in "My Folder": "MYCPUNAME". No access from Linux.I then changed the permissions to "Network", allowed full control permissions and now was able add files from my Linux. Which is good. How do I make it so that only a few specific IP addresses or Users (PMP and Linux laptop) have full control? How do I make it so that a password is required to access from LAN with full control?

Sharing :: File Share Accessible From Mac But Not PC?

Jan 20, 2012

I created a share on our server for a few AD users and set those users up in a group I set that group to have the permissions to read/write this share. When one of those users tries to connect to the share from a PC, he is denied permissions, but when the same user connects to the share from a Mac, the file permissions work as they are set.I checked effective permissions for each user in the group, and they have the access they are supposed to. I've tried re-creating the share, recreating the group, and comparing the permissions to another share that is set up the same way (but working properly).

Sharing :: How To Enable File / Print Share Through Comodo's Firewall

Oct 20, 2011

I've Googled without a relevant result. I've searched the Comodo forum at great length and in detail. I've read the Comodo guide (all 300+ pages of it). I cannot find a description, in language that I can understand, of how to enable file & print sharing through Comodo's Firewall, with their free Internet Security product, version 5.5.

Sharing :: Unable To File / Print Share Between Windows And Linux?

Oct 21, 2011

I have between 8 and 10 computers on my home LAN. They are split between the default workgroup name 'WORKGROUP' and the name I have assigned to my home LAN.There is a mixture of Win XP, Win 7 32 & 64 and various levels of Ubuntu.

After 6 long days of trying I have made not one step forward in allowing file/printer sharing. The Windows machines are all running Comodo Internet Security, on one of which I have created my idea of a set of rules to allow file/print sharing. The Windows XP machine, with a user created set of firewall rules, can see no computers on the network (using My Network Places), aside from itself and the shares created on it.It cannot see the computers which are not in the workgroup.

The most common error message this computer generates is 'network path not found'. A win 7 32 bit computer, in the workgroup, can see all other computers that are in the workgroup, including itself, twice. It cannot access any shares on the Linux computers. It is able to access shares on the Windows XP computer.ufw Firewall is installed and enabled on one Linux machine and has a vaguely similar set of file/print sharing rules. That machine can see nothing at the Network place.A couple of hours ago it could see the machines that are NOT in my workgroup but could not see the machines that are!

Another linux computer can see the two workgroups (named and default) within the windows network, but cannot browse either workgroup. The most common error message from sharing attempts with the Linux machines is 'unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server'.Right now I am reduced to transferring USB sticks between adjacent computers....

Sharing :: Network User Drive Showing (all Users) Personal File Share?

Jan 2, 2012

Having problem locating why when a user logs on to their profile, their personal network drive shows everyones personal drive file and they have acces to all files. This is a major security concern as uppper management files are then accessable. It is random, may not always be displayed, or always occur on the same user. The User drive normally displays.

joed on \serverusers$ (H:)

When this takes place the users name is replaced with just Users Users on \serverusers$ (H:) (This can sometimes change to Z drive)
This then exposes all user drives. This does not run from a script but is used in AD under the profile drive letter. Have tried to:Rebuild profile in Active Directory. (New Profile)Re Build user profile on workstation>Rebuild Operating system on Workstation.Change drive on the user profile in AD letter H to Z.Have also tried on a different workstation.

Set Permission For Just One Remote User To Share A Folder

Apr 19, 2011

I want to share the My Documents folder from an XP machine with ONLY one user (the administrator) on a networked Win 7 machine. I have turned off simple sharing on the XP machine. I hate XP!! So complicated to do anything. Anyway, under security, I have tried share this folder, and not to share folder. I have gone into Advanced and messed around with permissions, taking out Everyone, using Admin only, using Network. At one point I ended up not being able to access My Documents on the local computer and had to jump through many hoops to change ownership and disable read only so that the user could use her own files! The problem is, under Advanced in the permissions area, I cannot see the users on the remote pc to choose which one should be allowed access. how to actually find a particular user on the Win 7 pc and give ONLY that user permission to read (not to change) the files in My Documents on the XP pc.

Sharing A Folder With Everyone

May 1, 2011

I am trying to create a shared folder accessible to anyone on the network. The folowing are my settings under advanced sharing settings.

-Turn OFF network discovery
-Turn ON file and print sharing
-Turn ON sharing so anyone with network access can read/write files in the public folder
-USE 128 Bit encryption
-Turn ON password protected sharing.

The settings are as follows for the folder.Under the security tab, User EVERYONE, full control. There are no deny settings anywhere.Under The sharing Tab-Advanced Sharing- Share this folder is checked. After clicking Permissions, the only uder in here is EVERYONE with full control. When someone else on another computer clicks on my computers name, it asks for a username/password. I do not wish to give out the username/password of any user on this computer. I created another user on the computer that has the shared folder. When that username and password is entered on another computer, the computer does not accept it, and requests the username and password.WITHOUT totally reconfiging the network settings on the computer to share the folder, how do I create a folder that will permit everyone to read/write from? If reconfiguring of the network settings are required, what settings do I need to change to ensure high security, and will permit anyone on the network to access this folder?

Folder Sharing Between 2 Subnets?

May 11, 2012

our office has 2 branches recently the static ip of the branch was changed to a different subnet. earlier it used to be

111.170.150.140 subnet mask (255.255.255.128) main branch router (1) ip which forwards all request to server (dmz) - unchanged

111.170.150.141 subnet mask 255.255.255.128 sub branch (2) router ip changed to 111.170.150.61 subnet mask 255.255.255.224

after this change i am not able to access shared folders on the dmz server (1) (111.170.150.140). i am able to ping the ip and also able to open remote desktop connections from sub branch (2).i suspect that it is because of subnet change as i was earlier able to access shared folders? How can we access the shared folders across the subnet? what settings to change?

Sharing :: Small Business File-Sharing Among Employees

Mar 6, 2012

[code] Basically, we used to use Outlook for our customer management, but after I tried to design a custom form for customers that suited our needs better than Outlook's default form (i.e. we don't need state, country, region, etc. for each customer, and we'd prefer to have spots for Roof, Shingle, Shingle color, etc. in their place), we ended up turning OneNote into our new Customer Management System. Our problem is sharing files, and the security or lack thereof that goes along with it.We used to save all the files to a single computer, and use Windows 7 Home group to access them. That worked okay, but often we couldn't see the file-holding computer, and would have to disconnect/reconnect to the internet.

We recently bought a NAS HD, which actually works a lot better than I expected. Unfortunately, we've learned recently that new employees are not always the most trustworthy. So this is what we are trying to do:We want to set up some type of way for us to save, store, and access files, which allows us to keep track of who has done what (access, save, copy, delete, print, etc.), preferably one where we can set up alerts if certain things happen (i.e. someone copies and pastes the entire thing, or attempts to delete). We've run into the problem where, yes, we want people to be able to copy and paste certain documents, yes we want people to be able to print, but no we don't want someone to be able to print out our entire customer lists, current project lists, etc. This NAS HD (MyBook Live 2TB by Western Digital) could quite possibly have the most ridiculous set up I've ever encountered. I can set up accounts and passwords, but they are completely irrelevant because from "Computer" you can just select the z:/ drive and it will still take you to our files. We just brought on a couple new people, and its like, everyone tells them to come to me in regards to the computers, and I can't even hook them up to the internet because it would give them access to our network, which in turn gives them access to our z:/ drive, which contains every file our company has.

Sharing :: Network Places Web Folder Files Are Missing

Jan 29, 2012

I have been using FrontPage 2003 successfully and recently as of 2 days ago...I wanted to edit the website and the files are ALL missing. UGH!!!! Its very frustrating that I cannot edit the website now and we are missing valuable information. I did see the files when I created a new Network Place with the prefix but I cannot edit and save to our website. Now I did ask MyHosting administrator but they are seriously taking longer to get back to me then needed. I can open Front Page, but of course, cannot publish anything to the website. More so, even just opening the files in server.com is the actual issue because I cannot change the website page. That's the files I need to change in Front Page. I did go to my account settings within myhosting server to the File Manager and YES! I could see all the files....but again I cannot save anything to the website or publish..I DID NOT DOWNLOAD anything over the past few days and have not gone to unauthorized websites that would have provided a virus. Everything else works fine.

Folder Sharing On Mapped Drive - NTFS Permissions?

Nov 26, 2011

I have a desktop and a laptop. I'm trying to share my external HD from my desktop, to my laptop. What I did was gave the local administrators group full share permissions to the drive, and of course the local administrators group also has full NTFS permission. That being said, I went to my laptop and did a Code:net use X: \mydesktopexternal /user:mydesktopuser PasswordExternal is the share name for the external HD on my desktop. The command worked successfully, however, I am still getting Access Denied when trying to get inside of this mapped drive. How and why does the command map the drive properly, using those credentials, but there's no access when trying to navigate to it? It works if I give Everyone full share permission, but I don't want anyone to just connect to it. Use password protection file sharing is enabled, but of course with "Everyone" given permission, that won't apply (at least to my knowledge).

Linksys WRT54G Router / Folder Sharing Between Networks

The setup...DSL Modem (provides DHCP) LAN port to 24 Port switch. all hard wired PCs are directly attached to 24 port switch. All hard wired PCs can "see" each other.Linksys WRT54G router WAN port is connected to one of the LAN ports of the 24 port switch providing a separate network for my wireless devices.ALL wireless PCs can "see" each other.Problem is that the wired PCs can not "see" the wireless PCs.The wireless PCs can Ping the wired but not the other way around. What I want to do is share folders between the wired and wireless networks.( I know I can turn the router into an AP on the switches LAN, by disabling DHCP in the router, not using its WAN port and hooking one of its LAN ports to the 24 port switch.....BUT... I use the routers access restrictions to limit my kids internet time and without using the WAN port the router does not keep the date and time)It would be like doing file sharing from the internet to a private LAN but without the security concerns!
