I am using windows 7 and i have a folder which I share between other computers and laptops at home, but I want to share that folder as a web page, for example if i type the www or the ip address it should appear like a web page, i guess that way it will be faster then normal shared folder, is it possible that I assign an IP to that folder and forward it to the network users?

I have been using FrontPage 2003 successfully and recently as of 2 days ago...I wanted to edit the website and the files are ALL missing. UGH!!!! Its very frustrating that I cannot edit the website now and we are missing valuable information. I did see the files when I created a new Network Place with the prefix but I cannot edit and save to our website. Now I did ask MyHosting administrator but they are seriously taking longer to get back to me then needed. I can open Front Page, but of course, cannot publish anything to the website. More so, even just opening the files in server.com is the actual issue because I cannot change the website page. That's the files I need to change in Front Page. I did go to my account settings within myhosting server to the File Manager and YES! I could see all the files....but again I cannot save anything to the website or publish..I DID NOT DOWNLOAD anything over the past few days and have not gone to unauthorized websites that would have provided a virus. Everything else works fine.

The problem we are experiencing is when a folder is created by user A, it cannot be moved by user B (and vice versa), as it says the folder is in use.The exact error is: Error Moving File or Folder.Cannot move <filename>: Access is denied.Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.I have explicitly set full control for both users on the folder. The drive has 70GB of 500GB remaining. I have also used File Server Management to verify the files were not in use when they were being moved.The server is Windows 2003, SP2. Domain environment, with all relevant users having permissions on the folder, and the everyone account removed. Any other operation inside the shared folder works fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a user that is trying to save an excel speadsheet that is located in a shared folder on a server, the user can open the file and edit ok but when they try to save the file the progress bar pops up but just hangs then a message pops up to saying "file not saved". They are using Windows 7.The user is new and I have just set up their account so thought it might be permission issues but I have logged the user in on two other different machines (1 win7 and 1 WinXP) and they have no problem at all.

I am having difficulty getting my HP Officejet Pro 8500(A910) configured to save digital faxes to my Iomega 2TB Home Media Sever (cloud edition). My home network is setup through a Linksys E4200.I was able to successfully configure it to save to a folder on my PC, but I do not want to leave it running 24/7.I believe the breakdown is in the Authentication part of the setup... It asks for the Windows username and password, which works fine for the PC setup but not for anywhere else. Do I use the UN & PW for the home media server if I'm saving to one of its folders? If so, how do I correctly type the path? It is communicating with the folder and leaving an alphanumeric file saved inside the folder when I use the 'save and test' option, but it breaks down from there.

-Turn OFF network discovery
-Turn ON file and print sharing
-Turn ON sharing so anyone with network access can read/write files in the public folder
-USE 128 Bit encryption
-Turn ON password protected sharing.
The settings are as follows for the folder.Under the security tab, User EVERYONE, full control. There are no deny settings anywhere.Under The sharing Tab-Advanced Sharing- Share this folder is checked. After clicking Permissions, the only uder in here is EVERYONE with full control.When someone else on another computer clicks on my computers name, it asks for a username/password. I do not wish to give out the username/password of any user on this computer. I created another user on the computer that has the shared folder. When that username and password is entered on another computer, the computer does not accept it, and requests the username and password.WITHOUT totally reconfiging the network settings on the computer to share the folder, how do I create a folder that will permit everyone to read/write from? If reconfiguring of the network settings are required, what settings do I need to change to ensure high security, and will permit anyone on the network to access this folder?
our office has 2 branches recently the static ip of the branch was changed to a different subnet. earlier it used to be

after this change i am not able to access shared folders on the dmz server (1) (111.170.150.140). i am able to ping the ip and also able to open remote desktop connections from sub branch (2).i suspect that it is because of subnet change as i was earlier able to access shared folders?How can we access the shared folders across the subnet? what settings to change?

These addressed are accessible within the university bu non routable outside on the internet. My plan is to setup a local HUB for DC++ for sharing data within the university intranet. So even if internet is unavailable data can be exchanged through LAN. This HUB must not be accessable outsied the university network.how should I do this all..implementing network sharing other than DC++. My basic idea is that everybody can share their data and the data is searchable from one common interface( Web interface is better option, if possible). The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

I'm trying to share my external HD from my desktop, to my laptop.What I did was gave the local administrators group full share permissions to the drive, and of course the local administrators group also has full NTFS permission.That being said, I went to my laptop and did a Code:net use X: \mydesktopexternal /user:mydesktopuser PasswordExternal is the share name for the external HD on my desktop. The command worked successfully, however, I am still getting Access Denied when trying to get inside of this mapped drive.How and why does the command map the drive properly, using those credentials, but there's no access when trying to navigate to it? It works if I give Everyone full share permission, but I don't want anyone to just connect to it. Use password protection file sharing is enabled, but of course with "Everyone" given permission, that won't apply (at least to my knowledge).

I have got 2 PC's (one ground floor, one up staris), printer, TV and router.Now, my router has got only 4 sockets for RJ45 (no usb connection available). My target is to have one storage hard drive of 2TB for sharing pictures, files and automatic backup from PC's. Make of my router is D-link DIR-615. I want to have PC's connected by RJ45 for quick file transfer and TV as well to load movies from external/network hard drive so 3 of 4 ports are already used.I want to have my printer online in network all the time, so any PC can print at any time without connecting USB cable. As I said, I got 2 devices to connect to my network, and there is also one port available. I know, we got many different hubs etc, but what about printer? It supports only USB 2.0.I have also found very basic NAS on ebay:

I thought I could by external hard drive because it is cheaper than network, and connect it together with my printer to this NAS and then NAS to router. Will I loose file transfer speed?
Okay so I had all this set up to be simple back in windows 7.
Basically, what I did was turn off password required sharing or whatever, so all I had to do was click on networks in the left side panel when i was in My Computer and click on say, my wifes laptop and it'd open the public folder she had there, and I could drag and drop stuff into and out of it. And same for her and seeing mine.
Now that I have windows 8 on my PC It's all buggered up.
I didn't change ANY settings on HER laptop, but when I try and access it (I used it to back up important files while fresh installing w8) it's asking me for a username and password

There are three up-to-date Windows Vista (Home edition, I think) laptops on the network all of which connect wirelessly to the router/modem. The network is password protected (for security purposes I turn off network discovery. And I don't use file sharing between the laptops). In other words, I have three laptops connected to a common wireless Internet connection (the router/modem). I also have a desktop computer (that I use for projects and gaming), but I don't have a wireless network adapter nor a long enough ethernet cable to connect to the router. I don't have any technical problems connecting to the Internet using a crossover ethernet cable. It's just impractical as I have to dismantle the whole desktop computer system (printer, monitor, scanner, etc etc) and carry it to a different room within cable distance of the router every time I need to update the software or activate a new application.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm sure this may appear to have been asked before but I've scoured the Internet and can't find anything exactly applicable to the setup I'm trying to achieve. I had a sky ADSL connection in my living room that had my tv, ps3, NAS and netbook wired in. I've since changed to a sky fibre connection but this had to be installed in the master phone line which is upstairs. This obviously isn't a problem for all of the wireless devices around the house including the netbook and ps3 in the living room. The NAS and TV are still wired to the old router so can see each other with no problems. Any pc trying to connect to the NAS can just switch to the old router via wifi if desired. The only problem I have is that the TV can no longer access the Internet.
I initially tried to use ICS on the netbook (it's left on permanently) - it's wired to the old router and wirelessly connected to the new one. This appeared to be working for a while but is no longer playing ball. I've tried bridging the connections and the tv and NAS both had Internet access but it's very sporadic.Is this a reasonable setup or should I be looking for another solution? I can specify a manual ip, subnet and default gateway on the tv if necessary - I was going to point it towards the bridge's gateway but I don't know about IP?
I live in an apartment and I am forced to only use the apartment's internet service to go online. There are two ways to access the apartments network; via ethernet port or wifi. Once im connected and try to browse, I will first be taken an http login page to enter my username and password. The problem with this is I can only use the username and password for one computer at a time. Trying to get my second laptop to access the web using the same user and password will give me an error saying it is currently being used. As I have two laptops (work and personal), I would like to share the internet connection using a device that will allow either or both machines to connect simutaneously. What device will I need?
