how we can prevent learners from creating files or folders on Drive C without restricting the users from running programs installed on the C drive. View 1 RepliesI have been using FrontPage 2003 successfully and recently as of 2 days ago...I wanted to edit the website and the files are ALL missing. UGH!!!! Its very frustrating that I cannot edit the website now and we are missing valuable information. I did see the files when I created a new Network Place with the prefix but I cannot edit and save to our website. Now I did ask MyHosting administrator but they are seriously taking longer to get back to me then needed. I can open Front Page, but of course, cannot publish anything to the website. More so, even just opening the files in server.com is the actual issue because I cannot change the website page. That's the files I need to change in Front Page. I did go to my account settings within myhosting server to the File Manager and YES! I could see all the files....but again I cannot save anything to the website or publish..I DID NOT DOWNLOAD anything over the past few days and have not gone to unauthorized websites that would have provided a virus. Everything else works fine.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a user that is trying to save an excel speadsheet that is located in a shared folder on a server, the user can open the file and edit ok but when they try to save the file the progress bar pops up but just hangs then a message pops up to saying "file not saved". They are using Windows 7.The user is new and I have just set up their account so thought it might be permission issues but I have logged the user in on two other different machines (1 win7 and 1 WinXP) and they have no problem at all.

I don't want either of us to be able to view or share files, folders, etc. I think I've done everything on my end: turned off Network Discovery; turned off file and printer sharing; turned off Public Folder sharing. Also turned off automatic file/printer sharing in Norton firewall.
1) do I need to do anything else, and;
2) what does room mate have to do on his computer (if anything)?

I have a server connected to my router with a CAT5. I usually manage the server from my laptop connected to the router via WLAN. I often need to add files to a public folder on the server so it can be dowloaded by my clients when they need them. I can access my personal laptop from the server, but I cannot access the server's files from my laptop. This is recent and used to work fine. I also cannot acces other personal computers on my network that I often connect to
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop pc, and a laptop both connected to wireless internet in a house with about 5 other computers getting internet off of the same wireless router.A while back I had figured out how to share my printer which is wired to my desktop, with my laptop but without sharing any files and figured i had done it.Today I had to figure out why the printer had stopped printing from the laptop and i noticed that in the network area of the explorer I could see my users files on the desktop from my laptop and vice versa. I have been trying everything that seems to be there to disable sharing these files, other then disconnecting from the internet.
On my desktop I can right click on the users folder and choose share>share with nobody. I did that.I also went into the advance sharing options on both devices and tried disabling everything but network discovery.From what I gather discovery is just letting me browse, and not actually showing me that things aren't available to share. So with everything else turned off, like file and printer sharing, all that other stuff, I can STILL see and move and use the files that I have "shared with nobody" even regardless of the fact that I have disabled printer and file sharing. Both machines are running Windows 7

I am trying to create a shared folder accessible to anyone on the network.The folowing are my settings under advanced sharing settings.
-Turn OFF network discovery
-Turn ON file and print sharing
-Turn ON sharing so anyone with network access can read/write files in the public folder
-USE 128 Bit encryption
-Turn ON password protected sharing.
The settings are as follows for the folder.Under the security tab, User EVERYONE, full control. There are no deny settings anywhere.Under The sharing Tab-Advanced Sharing- Share this folder is checked. After clicking Permissions, the only uder in here is EVERYONE with full control.When someone else on another computer clicks on my computers name, it asks for a username/password. I do not wish to give out the username/password of any user on this computer. I created another user on the computer that has the shared folder. When that username and password is entered on another computer, the computer does not accept it, and requests the username and password.WITHOUT totally reconfiging the network settings on the computer to share the folder, how do I create a folder that will permit everyone to read/write from? If reconfiguring of the network settings are required, what settings do I need to change to ensure high security, and will permit anyone on the network to access this folder?
our office has 2 branches recently the static ip of the branch was changed to a different subnet. earlier it used to be

after this change i am not able to access shared folders on the dmz server (1) (111.170.150.140). i am able to ping the ip and also able to open remote desktop connections from sub branch (2).i suspect that it is because of subnet change as i was earlier able to access shared folders?How can we access the shared folders across the subnet? what settings to change?

I'm trying to share my external HD from my desktop, to my laptop.What I did was gave the local administrators group full share permissions to the drive, and of course the local administrators group also has full NTFS permission.That being said, I went to my laptop and did a Code:net use X: \mydesktopexternal /user:mydesktopuser PasswordExternal is the share name for the external HD on my desktop. The command worked successfully, however, I am still getting Access Denied when trying to get inside of this mapped drive.How and why does the command map the drive properly, using those credentials, but there's no access when trying to navigate to it? It works if I give Everyone full share permission, but I don't want anyone to just connect to it. Use password protection file sharing is enabled, but of course with "Everyone" given permission, that won't apply (at least to my knowledge).
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe setup...DSL Modem (provides DHCP) LAN port to 24 Port switch. all hard wired PCs are directly attached to 24 port switch.All hard wired PCs can "see" each other.Linksys WRT54G router WAN port is connected to one of the LAN ports of the 24 port switch providing a separate network for my wireless devices.ALL wireless PCs can "see" each other.Problem is that the wired PCs can not "see" the wireless PCs.The wireless PCs can Ping the wired but not the other way around.What I want to do is share folders between the wired and wireless networks.( I know I can turn the router into an AP on the switches LAN, by disabling DHCP in the router, not using its WAN port and hooking one of its LAN ports to the 24 port switch.....BUT... View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 2003 SP2 server with a shared folder. This folder is accessed by 2 people on a regular basis. The problem we are experiencing is when a folder is created by user A, it cannot be moved by user B (and vice versa), as it says the folder is in use.The exact error is: Error Moving File or Folder.Cannot move <filename>: Access is denied.Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.I have explicitly set full control for both users on the folder. The drive has 70GB of 500GB remaining. I have also used File Server Management to verify the files were not in use when they were being moved.The server is Windows 2003, SP2. Domain environment, with all relevant users having permissions on the folder, and the everyone account removed. Any other operation inside the shared folder works fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm in a house on a network that has 2 Macbooks, 4 notebooks running either Windows Vista or Windows 7, and 3 desktops running either Windows Vista or Windows XP. (Sidenote: No, they're not all accessing the network at the same time; actually some of them are hardly ever even turned on but it's important to include them because of the questions to follow.) Out of all those machines, one desktop running XP and one notebook running Vista are mine.Now, my family's pretty private, so we have file sharing turned off on all the computers. The problem is it's really a pain to have to transfer files between my laptop and my desktop, which I do fairly often because some of my schoolwork is done on the desktop (bigger screen), while some is done on my laptop (portability), and I also have a partition on the desktop's hard drive specifically for backing up files. When I want to transfer files, whether it's one file or 10,000 files (which I had to do the other day, actually), I either have to:
a) e-mail the file to myself if it's not too large and open it on the other machine
b)use my flash drive to transfer files
c) use a usb transfer cable, start the software, log in to the connection, etc etc.
simply create a new Workgroup on the network with just my 2 machines in it, so I can put all the files I want to share/move between them on the network instead of manually transferring them. I've already taken care of that step (creating the Workgroup, that is), so for the sake of not being confusing, I'll call my network "Network" and my workgroup "Mygroup" and whatever workgroups the other computers might be in "Theirgroups". Now that I've figured out that it's possible for Mygroup and Theirgroups to co-exist on Network, what about the actual file sharing? If I set up file sharing will only the 2 computers in Mygroup have access to them, or will the computers in Theirgroups have access as well since we're all on the same network? If the computers on Theirgroups will have access as well, is there any way I can make it so that only Mygroup will have access?
Our home situation is: We have 3 Mac computers, 2 PC's (all home/office use) and loads of phones and other equipment. Each computer stores files independently, there is peer-to-peer wireless sharing (through the OS) but no true central file sharing.Our existing network situation is: We have O2 Broadband but don't use the O2 equipment. We use a Netgear ADSL2+ modem (delivering 5/6-7meg) connected to a Time Capsule that offers us home backup for our Mac computers and also acts as our wireless router. We broadcast in dual-band 802.11b/g and 802.11n simultaneously (as there are a range of systems that need different bands). We then use 2 Apple AirPort Express access points around the house to extend and amplify the signal - although these can sometimes be temperamental.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a small office network of 6 computers. I have just added the 6th computer running windows 7 home premium to the network and having a few problems. We are running sage accounts system and i cant connect to the main computer that is acting as the hub which runs of windows xp to acces the sage data.The main computer is visible on the network along with all other computers on the network but i cannot connect to it. when i click on it a box appears titles 'windows security' it asks me to 'enter network password' and says below 'enter your network password to connect to cornwall-31aae0' which is the name for the hub pc.
I type in the username and password for that computer and press ok and nothing happens the box flashes and remains the same as if stuck in a continual loop. i have tried various combinations of usernames and passwords including using the computer name as a username and none work.i have played around with the settings changing workgroups and network names etc to match the hub pc and none work either. i have disabled and enabled password protected sharing etc and none of this works either. i seem to have tried everything and also tried matching the settings so that it is the same to another pc on the network running windows 7 also but still makes no difference.
My new computer can't upload any of my files like in facebook and yahoo. I try some speed test, download is okay but upload is not. I turned off my firewall and nothing happens.
