I would like to give selected friends and family access through Wi-fi to our home network (Vista windows) however I cannot or do not have the network security id written down anywhere and it is blocked from my viewing when I go to the Control Panel, Network Security page "Network Security Key". How might I reset this security password? And if I do, is this the password a friend would use to gain access to my network?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a D-Link router not too long ago and I set it up in an odd way, the router password I gave it during the setup would not be accepted but the Network Security Key (the randomly generated alphaneumeric code) was accepted. I used it to connect all of my wifi devices.
The router password (which doesn't work), the "network name (SSID)", the network security type, and the network security key were all saved on my desktop. My computer has since suffered a critical crash and had to have it's hard drive erased. I still remember the password, the network name, and the security type. But the NSK (the thing I need to connect in place of a password) has been lost. It was this long random string of letters and numbers that I couldn't remember for the life of me.
I also remembered my Admin password, so I am able to log into http://192.168.0.1, but in here I only know how to change the regular password. I don't know how to access or change the NSK. change the security setting so that I can use the actual password instead of the NSK? Because of the crash I lost my iTunes libraries so I'm going to have to reset all my iOS devices, which are primarily what I use wifi on. If I reset them, they'll forget the wifi network and the assosiated NSK password, so I won't be able to use wifi at all.

However, I can not access the internet when I chose a security password using WPA 2, WPA-PSK + WPA 2 PSK, or WPA/WPA 2. It only accesses the internet when I chose None.( no secured ).At this time, my network is unsecured because there isn't way I can access the internet when I create a security key using the 3 options the router offers.

I'm very new to WCS and the bloke that configured the bludger has left the company. I'm trying to get into it but I don't have the correct username/password combination.
My query is: How does one do a password reset on a WCS server? Or failing that, is there a way I can ascertain the current unknown password?
I have access to the actual server itself, but not the WCS application. Searching around Cisco.com shows that apparently there is a utility that can be used to reset usernames and passwords however I can't seem to find it. The WCS version is: 4.2.62.11
I bought a new connection with this router, and the first time i tried to access it it had the default <blank> username and password it, so i changed it. But now i really don't remember what it could be. I tried to reset the router, but it still didn't clear the password. I tried to contact my ISP, and they said they can't access my router remotely, i had to reset it myself. I've tried to reset it many times (holding down the reset button for 10-100 seconds), but by PASSWORD won't be reset.
How can i reset it? Is there perhaps any other reset trick for it?
So I decided to reset a wifi router, I have done this many times before and each time the process was quite smooth. But those routers were different models.This particular one is quite something. I reset it and when I tried to connect back to the network it asked me for a security key! I have tried everything from admin, password, 12345, the old passwords it had.. nothing seems to work.It gives a 'limited connectivity' message and the diagnosis tool asks whether the security key is correct. And it only accepts five characters (alphanumeric)So obviously I cannot try the default IP in the browser to access its settings, I can't even connect to the router.Are there known routers that ask for a security key even after resetting?
