Both have All Printer and file sharing Enabledhe desktop cann see the Laptop in 'Network' but not the other way around. However, even though I cannot see the Desktop from the Laptop's 'Network' I can access the public folder of the desktop by using : \desktop-pcuserspublic command in cmd or search. Now why Is the Desktop not visible on the Laptop's network(though I can access it) and why can't the Desktop access the Laptop's shared public folder even though it can see it in his network?
I think that's what I want to do. I have an HP desktop with vista and cable high speed modem and a linkys attached to it for wireless. My laptop is a toshiba with wireless running windows 7 and I use it upstairs wireless to connect to the net. There are times I need a file from the desktop and I have to go down and put it on memory stick to copy it over. Is there any way I can access the desktop from the laptop without having to do that? Would need step by step instructions to set it up if it can be done with 2 different operating systems.
I have a desktop and a laptop. Both use Windows XP. The laptop has wireless access to the internet. The desktop is wired to the Internet. How do I use the laptop to access files on the desktop.
I have a laser printer that's connected to a desktop running Win 7. The printer is set to SHARE. I got a laptop that I want to print from through the desktop. Is this possible? The printer is not wireless and I don't have a print server. I have wireless network running on my Linksys router, but the desktop and the printer are not on it.I have the desktop and laptop on the same WORKGROUP, but when I try to add the printer on the laptop by selecting a NETWORKED PRINTER option, I get an error.
My desktop is connected to the same wireless network as my laptop yet my laptop has connection while my desktop does not.The desktop might actually be connected directly do a router (says 'local area connection 2 connected' right now but still no connection).I checked other posts on other websites that say to post all this command-prompt information that i cant necessarily access because i do not know the administrator password.
I currently have my ISP-supplied modem wired to both my router and an old, old desktop. Can I run this network without using a desktop ethernet connection & throw away the desktop?
I got a new laptop for Christmas and set up a new router which is working fine but now I can't access the laptop via the desktop. When I click on the laptop icon on the desktop network area windows asks for a username and password which I never set up and have no idea what the are. Any step by step guide to set up my network properly so I can transfer files back and forth.

I have a desktop and a laptop. I can't get wireless or a wired connection to the router so I need to use my laptop to connect to the internet in the short term. I have connected to the computers using an ethernet cable. I can get to local fine but no internet.
I have attempted to bridge the two connection but when I click on resolve it says there is an IP conflict. I can't see where.
I have also tried ICS but it keeps saying there was an error when attempting to enable it although I did manage to allow it to connect at one point before it reverted back to not working it still wouldn't allow the desktop internet access. All services are running.

Share the internet from my laptop to my desktop. I see that others have posted on this subject before but I have been unsuccessful so far. Maybe one of you can point out what is wrong (my guess is its something simple).I have:
*connected the 2 PCs with a Ethernet cable *I can successfully share/transfer files between the 2 PCs *When I found out the internet wasn't sharing, I manually changed the setting of the network adapter (IPv4) with the right ip/subnet *I was unable to ping the two computer before I changed the settings of the network adapter.Even with being able to ping, the laptop still wouldn't let me share the internet. *I have put everything back (all settings) that I changed to kind of start new.My laptop runs Windows 8 and my desktop runs Windows 7. [code]
OK, so I have a wireless/wifi connection at home. Problem is, the router is located in the bedroom (it's a rental house, and wired kinda odd). I have my desktop on a table in the kitchen.
I want to connect my Desktop to my Laptop....which I can do with an ethernet cable, but I don't know how to let them share the wireless/wifi connection. How to connect to the internet on my Desktop through the Laptop?
I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop. Both are running Win7 64 bit.My laptop's wireless card went kabloom and I'm too broke to afford a wireless adapter for my laptop. So I have the next best thing, connect the desktop to the laptop and share my desktop's internet connection with. But of course, it's not that simple. The problem is that the laptop isn't able to connect to the internet. I have shared my desktop's internet to my laptop before using the same cable and everything and it used to work, but now it doesn't.Now comes the 'weird' part. I reversed the order, or I shared my laptop's wireless connection with my desktop. Although slow and choppy, it did work and I was able to access the internet from my desktop using a connection to my laptop with a cable.
The setup:Desktop PC Win 7 home to Linksys router to ModemLaptop PC Win 7 home wifi to linksys router etcTwo external HDD, USB, (Mybook) connected to the Desktop.I've been able to use the setting to make a Home network, same workgroup name, basically set it up so that I can use the laptop to access the "libraries" on my desktop like the docs, photos, etc. Now, my plan was to be able to use that laptop to access the USB HDD connected to the desktop. I tried using the fhile sharing wizard, (right clicking and "include in library" and a link does appear. I try right clicking and "share with homegroup" in the libraries tree.I get an error: "The File Sharing Wizard can't share the root of a drive"With some research, I've set the HDD sharing on (checked the "share this folder" box) and under Security set it to "everyone".When I get to the laptop, I see the link to My Book in Homegroup. But there's nothing in it.
My desktop, which runs on Vista, is connected to the internet via a cable modem. I am trying to get my laptop, which runs on Windows 7, to connect to the same network without a router via the use of an Ad-Hoc network.
I have created the Ad-Hoc network on my desktop and have successfully connected to it through my laptop. The problem is that although I am connected to the Ad-Hoc network on the laptop I cant connect to the internet. It simply says Access Type: No Internet Access. I have internet sharing on and don't know what to do to successfully connect to the internet via the laptop. When I diagnose the connection it says "The network adapter does not have a valid IP configuration" I have both pcs set to "Obtain IPv6/v4 addresses automatically" and dont know what else to do.
enable file sharing between a XP desktop and a Win 7 64bit laptop? Both computers are on a wireless home network and can only share a wireless printer. I need to open and edit files on both computers from either computer.
I have a laptop PC with WiFi, so I download a bunch of stuff on here. Then I have my beast/monster desktop gaming PC with a kick-ass geforce gtx 650 Ti, and an i7 processor, etc etc.... The thing it DOESN'T have is WiFi, or any internet capabilities at all (until I get a WiFi card in it or something).I have some 4 GB movies in my laptop, and so far what I been doing to transfer those movies to my desktop PC is saving it in a USB memory stick from my laptop, then taking the memory stick to the desktop PC and saving it there. I have regular Ethernet cables, would that work? What do I need to do to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop PC more efficiently and fast?
i have a laptop i want to start network connection from my desktop.it have a dsl connection and i want to share this connection to my laptop via bluetooth connection
My desktop is my main computer and is connected to a wireless router. I have added my laptop which i can see and can get into it's files. On the laptop, I cannot get into the desktop files and I cannot share the printer that is connected to the desktop.
