Sharing Connection Between Laptop And Desktop?
Oct 25, 2011
I have a desktop and a laptop. I can't get wireless or a wired connection to the router so I need to use my laptop to connect to the internet in the short term. I have connected to the computers using an ethernet cable. I can get to local fine but no internet.
I have attempted to bridge the two connection but when I click on resolve it says there is an IP conflict. I can't see where.
I have also tried ICS but it keeps saying there was an error when attempting to enable it although I did manage to allow it to connect at one point before it reverted back to not working it still wouldn't allow the desktop internet access. All services are running.
IP config without ICS or bridging:

Share the internet from my laptop to my desktop. I see that others have posted on this subject before but I have been unsuccessful so far. Maybe one of you can point out what is wrong (my guess is its something simple).I have:
*connected the 2 PCs with a Ethernet cable
*I can successfully share/transfer files between the 2 PCs
*When I found out the internet wasn't sharing, I manually changed the setting of the network adapter (IPv4) with the right ip/subnet
*I was unable to ping the two computer before I changed the settings of the network adapter.Even with being able to ping, the laptop still wouldn't let me share the internet.
*I have put everything back (all settings) that I changed to kind of start new.My laptop runs Windows 8 and my desktop runs Windows 7. [code]

The setup:Desktop PC Win 7 home to Linksys router to ModemLaptop PC Win 7 home wifi to linksys router etcTwo external HDD, USB, (Mybook) connected to the Desktop.I've been able to use the setting to make a Home network, same workgroup name, basically set it up so that I can use the laptop to access the "libraries" on my desktop like the docs, photos, etc. Now, my plan was to be able to use that laptop to access the USB HDD connected to the desktop. I tried using the fhile sharing wizard, (right clicking and "include in library" and a link does appear. I try right clicking and "share with homegroup" in the libraries tree.I get an error: "The File Sharing Wizard can't share the root of a drive"With some research, I've set the HDD sharing on (checked the "share this folder" box) and under Security set it to "everyone".When I get to the laptop, I see the link to My Book in Homegroup. But there's nothing in it.

I have been trying to share drives between my dekstop and laptop using a router. I have connected both PCs to the router and has made changes to the file sharing enability to both. However, when I changed the ip address to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 respectively, the one using the ip add 192.168.1.2 could not access internet. And if I set both to default networks, my laptop failed to see the shared drive.

I have recently upgraded my router to a Belkin N750 DB and am having issues getting remote desktop connection working. Previously I had a Netgear router and it was working no problems at all.I have port forwarded (virtual server on Belkin) port 3389 TCP to the servers IP address.I can get Remote desktop connection to work when I am within my LAN by just typing the computers name. However when I try to connect via the IP address, as I would if I were away from home, then I get the message that says "remote desktop cannot connect for one of these reasons
1) remote access not enabled (it is because it worked before)
2) remote computer is turned off (no it isn't)
3) remote computer is no available" (yes it is cause can connect from LAN)
Turned off static IP for my server and let the router assign IP, and changed the IP address in the port forward, same, no connection.Double, triple checked my IP address, as this obviously changed when I plugged in the new router.Have updated to latest firmware for router and NIC.

I am trying to bridge internet connection received from my laptop to my desktop with an ethernet cable. Both machines are running win 7.When I try to connect to my local area connection on the desktop most of the time it fails and I'm left with 'Unidentified network' and no internet connection. Sometimes, rarely it does connect properly but I get a notification about there being an IP conflict in the network, but things work as they should. When I diagnose the problem it tells me that "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

I also entered the shared secret key correctly. I do not know where to enter the "group" name that coincides with the key I was given.

I have some iMacs that I manage for, in addition to my primary PC computers, such as my Toshiba Windows 7 laptop, which is what I am currently most concerned with. What I would like to do, is Remote Desktop Control (I'll abbreviate that as RDC) these mac computers through the network from my Windows PC. I am aware that this is possible with either Google Chrome, or by checking an OSX setting that will allow for VNC applications to connect, but I would prefer it if there was some way to RDC these iMacs from my Windows laptop without needing to change their settings or install software-something like how Mac-Mac RDC connections work, where I can just select a computer from the network, type a password, and go.

I'm having some trouble connecting to my computer remotely via my iPad.I have a fairly strict router so i installed and am running Hamachi as my network through which i connect to my server computer via another computer. I realized as I was writing this that the reason i could not connect to my server computer via the Hamachi address was because my ipad is not connected to the Hamchi network. When i try to connect via the ip address i get from whatsmyip.org i simply get an error. I have absolutely no idea where to go from here, and I would really like to have remote access to my server computer from my ipad.

I recently built a new desktop computer and installed it with Windows 7 since our old xp desktop had crashed. I am now trying to setup our wireless network similar to the way it was on the old xp desktop but cannot seem to figure out how to do it on windows. The basic setup would be:
verizon usb card (internet soure) ---> Desktop ---> ethernet cable to router ---> wirless access for laptops etc.
This was fairly easy on xp. All I had to do was enable ICS on the verizon card and then run the little network setup wizard on xp and boom the router was broadcasting internet.
Now unfortunately windows 7 doesn't have that little wizard and I simply cannot figure out how to create the same setup. I enabled ICS on the verizon card but can't seem to get internet access to the router after that.

I am unable to connect to my desktop's shared folders, and get the message "network path not found" when attempting to go into the desktop. The desktop is connected to the router wirelessly, a pace 2wire gateway, and wirelessly on the laptop. I can see it in the list of devices connected to the gateway, as well as the network folder. I am unable to ping my desktop from the laptop, but i can do so the other way around (desktop can ping my laptop). This is despite turning off windows firewall on the desktop. This started happening right when i got the SP2 upgrade for the desktop, it's a vista system.
