Laptop Won't Connect To One Particular Wireless Network?
Nov 16, 2011
My laptop won't connect to the wireless internet connection in my house, even though it will connect to any other wireless network and all other phones and computer seem to connect to this network fine. It just says the connection is local only. Every once in a while it will connect for a reason I don't know, but when I try it again the next day, it won't work. However, the laptop will connect with the ethernet cable. The wireless provider, TalkTalk, have said I might need to try installing or reconfiguring Wireless 0. I googled this and followed the instructions to set the WLAN autoconfig and wired autoconfig to automatic, but that hasn't fixed it

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption. My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

I have access to a wireless network, but when I try to connect my laptop to the network it says that it can not connect. And, of course, you can't troubleshoot it without a connection...I don't know if I accidentally changed my settings somehow or what, but I'd like to get the problem solved.

My laptop won't connect to my router however the wireless network connects to everything else in the house fine. It might work for a little bit ( sometimes an hour, sometimes only a few minutes) but then it will completely refuse to connect. The wireless LAN is enabled, it even shows full signal on the laptop it just will not connect. The LAN is enable but the button for it is blinking, I don't remember it blinking before. I'm not sure if that could be the problem. As its connecting it just says " waiting for the network" and that happens for about a minute then it just disappears.

All attempts to connect meets with the same error: "unable to connect to network" (preceded by the system hanging for a lengthy amount of time). Windows advises me to unplug the router and plug it back in, which obviously isn't an option. Here are some screenshots, for whatever they might be worth: ImageShack - Online Photo and Video Hosting
I'm not running any firewall but Windows Firewall. This problem has only cropped up recently. At first, I was only having the problem with public wifi networks -- at home, using my own wireless router, there was no trouble. Then I deleted my home wireless profile as a troubleshooting procedure, and I can no longer connect to it, either.
Here are some additional specs, for whatever they might be worth:
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @ 2.27GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 4

Well, i can connect to the network, but my computer won't connect to the internet. I've tried power cycling the router/modem several different times, to no avail. I have recently moved and I brought my wireless router with me from my last home. The wireless router is a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router. I reconfigured the router with a new connection name, password and security key. Upon trying to connect to the wireless network once it was fully reconfigured (no problems reconfiguring whatsoever), I was getting the "Windows was unable to connect" message. Since then, I have been able to connect successfully to the network with an iPod Touch, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and my roommate's laptop. I have tried resetting the router and modem with no success. I can see the wireless network in the available connections list and other networks in my area. I can also connect to the internet through this router manually using an ethernet cable (which I am doing now, to post this message). I submitted my computer's specs using the SysInfo app given at registration.
I will also include an IPCONFIG /ALL as I have seen this requested in other threads like this one. These are the results of that: (note: this was run while connected through the wireless router using an ethernet cable)

My laptop all of a sudden can't connect to my wireless internet connection and also seem unable to find any other wireless network but mine.I recently moved to a new flat, but brought my old modem/router with me (Scientific Atlanta 2434) and use the same ISP. Last week everything worked as a charm, but at the new location my laptop won't connect to my network, though I can connect to it through my mobile phone. My laptop only seem to find my own network ("Fidel") but with my mobile I can pick up 10-15 different networks from my flat. Connecting my laptop to the modem with a cable works all good. I tried to remove "Fidel" from my networks and added it again, typing wrong password gives a message saying "wrong network key" so my laptop and the modem seem to shake hands at least. Yesterday when trying I actually got connected, but the connection died after a few minutes and I wasn't able to connect again.Windows device manager display no errors nor conflicts around the ethernet controller or network adapter. Have tried to update the drivers through the device manager as well but it says they are up to date.Windows version is Windows 7 Home Premium.Don't know if my ISP uploaded new firmware to my modem when I connected it in my new flat, but on the other hand I can't see why this would affect my laptop's ability to pick up other networks in my house? I have a Gateway laptop the was recently brought back from the dead (basically)... So once the rescue and recovery was done some of the drivers were lost including the wireless adapter. I found most of the drivers and was connecting to the internet wireless fine. I just got internet installed in my house a few days ago, in the beginning the laptop would connet to the internet through the gateway set up in my home. Someone reset my modem back to the default settings by mistake. So I reset everything back to the way it was but now the laptop wont connect. I thought it may have been a problem with the modem but when I checke it it says everything is working fine so Im assuming that its something wrong with the laptop. It connects fine if I plug the ethernet cord in and I get the 'wireless networks detected' message and when I clikc on it my network is displayed but when I try to connect it says windows is unable to connect to the selected network. the network may nolonger be in range.

I stumbled upon a problem which i cannot resolve, the situation is as folows:
A router (Netgear wgt624v3) is connected to the internet. My smartphone and every other wireless device I tested is able to connect to it but not my laptop. My laptop is able to connect to any other wireless network. I can however get acces to the web using an ethernet cable plugged into the router.
I already installed the newest driver for my wireless network card (Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter) and I already upgraded the router to the newest firmware. I also disabled every security including the built in firewall. The strangest thing is that I can actually find the SSID of the network, I just cannot connect to it.
FYI: I use windows 7 64bit, laptop type is Packard Bell LM86

I have a HP Pavilion dv9930us laptop. I recently upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate from Visata Home Premium 64-bit. Everything worked fine until I decided that I didn't want WinAmp that I previously installed. I uninstalled WinAmp. However, when I rebooted the latop, it went into an infinte loop after startup (that is, it would load all the applicatons, but whenever it connected to the internet, it would go into an infinite loop). I also uninstalled HP Quick Launch Buttons. I thought the laptop was going into an infinite loop because it was looking for these programs since they may not have been properly uninstalled. I went ahead an reinstalled these programs but after 30 seconds after startup, when trying to connect to the wirless network, it would freeze (that is only the mouse would work but everything else on the desktop was unresponsive). I edited msconfig several times, at one point, went through each program to see which ones were responsible for the laptop freeze. I found two programs, the SSDP Discovery and the CNG Isolation Key that were causing the laptop to freeze up after startup. I later found out that these two programs, especially the CNG Isolation Key were important to connect wirelessly. The virus program I have is Kaspersky and I already ran a malwarebytes scan through safe mode. At this point, all applications work fine except that I cannot connect to the wireless network. I ran the troubleshoot for the wirless network and reinstalled the drivers but it still cannot detect any wireless networks. Is there anything I can do without reinstalling Win 7 or updating the BIOS? The radio button or the wireless adapter is blue telling me that its working ok. When I checked it through device manager, it says that the device is working properly. connect to my wireless network? (There is no problem with the wireless network through the wireless router since I can connect with no issues on another laptop).

I was given a dell latitude cpx laptop running windows xp recently with wireless b network adapter. My modem/router is a 2wire gateway DSL . When I brought the laptop home, it did not connect to my wireless network. It was able to find my ssid though, and the signal was weak even if I was close to the modem/router. Anway, someone suggested I switch from WPA to WEP encryption because old network adapters can only detect wep encryption ( or something like that) . So I did, and still no internet connection. i tried to ping yahoo.com and still not working. My DNS and Ip adress are set to automatic and still no internet. This laptop doesn't have an LAN port, so i guess it connects through internet wirelessly only. Someone also suggested i update my drivers for wireless adapter but i don't have the original disc that came along with it. This laptop was able to connect without problem before from a different network but not mine like a week ago.. I also have2 other laptops within this network and I never had a problem with it connecting wirelessly.

I have not been able to connect to my wireless network.I have downloaded and installed the drivers and installed in the recommended order. Issue is that I cannot get a dynamic IP address issued to me. It says I am on the network, but the only packets are outgoing. I have been trying to sort this for the last 2 days, and the laptop is close to being chucked out of the window.my wireless card is intel pro wireless 3945abg?

I provide support for a small business network. ISP: Silo Wireless (wireless point to point with ISP) Router: Cisco RV220W Wireless-N Network Security Firewall
The router is configured with two wireless access points with SSIDs: "abracadabra" and "abracadabra-guest". The only difference between these two wireless networks is their passcode. Up until now I have had no problem connecting devices to either wireless network.
My problem lies with an HP Pavilion laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit that I'm trying to connect to the "abracadabra" wireless network.
Network and Sharing Center shows "Identifying" for a while and then shows "Unidentified network" with no local or internet access. Wireless network connection status says that Media State is Enabled, Speed is 54Mbps and Signal Quality is Excellent. Network Connection Details shows that DHCP is Enabled but it's getting an Autoconfiguration IPv4 address of 169.254.107.138...
The laptop is running ESET Nod 32 Antivirus 5 and Windows Firewall and I've disabled Windows Firewall on the Wireless Network Connection. I've also tried re-installing the wireless nic driver, it's running the latest from Windows Updates.
what really gets me is that the laptop can connect to "abracadabra-guest" fine and access the internet

This was for a WRT160n v3.0.02 I looked up several suggestions online and decided to update the firmware to v3.0.03 This seemed to only make it worse as I could no longer connect, and when I turned the router off and back on it would allow me in for about a minute and drop me right away.I started tweaking with the settings, and came across some posts here such as this one, started tweaking with the channel settings and everything. Nothing. If anything I somehow made it worse since now instead of dropping repeatedly it wouldn't connect at all except for about a minute after restarting router, then it would drop completely (I would either get the limited access notification or I simply couldn't connect and windows said to unplug the access point. I recalled I had another Linksys router that I wasn't using in storage, a WRT54G2v 1.0.01 so I set that up, no problems... at first. All other devices picked it up right away, but once again, my new laptop decides it's too good for the freaking network and drops it repeatedly telling me there's a problem with the access point.
So at this point I'm thinking it might NOT be my network, but my wireless card or something, I uninstalled and reinstalled, updated drivers, (I use a Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC) I even came across this article and disabled browser service and NETBios (including all other devices on my network). It brought back the network on my laptop for a bit, only to smugly come crashing down again.
