Can't Connect To Wireless Network With Vista Laptop

We have a router and wireless network at my house, but i am the only one in the house who cannot connect to the wifi with my laptop. Well, i can connect to the network, but my computer won't connect to the internet. I've tried power cycling the router/modem several different times, to no avail. In the Network and Sharing center, it says the access is Local Only.

How can I connect a vista laptop to existing wireless home network with other 3 [COLOR=#000096 !important][COLOR=#000096 !important]xp[/COLOR][/COLOR] machines.I followed googled info but keep chasing my tail as all effords end trying to make an internet connection. [code] is Negear wired & wireless capable in which 2 PCs are wired & an Acer netbook wireless connected, all 3 XP machines.
I am hoping to be able to connect remotely to my friend's Vista laptop (connected to the Internet via a dial-up in a developing country) from my own wireless broadband PC (Win 7).
Is there any recommended software that would enable me to do that or is Remote Desktop Connection able to do it, and what information would I need in order to be able to identify her on the Internet? I would have thought that any IP address that she can see under 'Network & Sharing Centre' or through the Command Prompt would only display the generic IP address of her ISP, wouldn't it? And would both of us need the same type of software to allow me to connect?
I am not able to connect my HP laptop (Windows Vista) to the internet via a wireless router/high speed internet.My internet service provider confirmed that it is a problem with my HP laptop.I have a Linksys router. My other laptop (Sony) connects fine.I have tried two browsers on my HP laptop to access the internet with no luck.My HP laptop does say that I am connected to the wireless network.
error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. The router is Cisco Linksys E2000. No problems before and not with apple products going online, this hp is about 7 years old. Seemed to suddenly stop accessing internet.
My girlfriend has just had Virgin Media installed in her house. She has a vista laptop which she is trying to connect wirelessly to the network. She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet.She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually.There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.
I cannot connect to Internet on a really Vista laptop, Here's pictures of my Ipconfig /all but I cannot copy and paste as I have no usb storage and cannot connect to the internet.
have a new netgear router my other lap top will connect to the internet but my vista lap top will not,,,its wireless....not sure what is going on ,,,feel like i tried everything
I have 2 computers One desktop and one Laptop Both are Vista Home Premium I want to set up a network between them to share files-printer etc Done exactly what it says here [URL]Went to the Desktop pc - Chose turn on network discovery, both are in Workgroup name Picked Private Network and turn on Printer Sharing.and no passwords.Then tried to see a folder I shared. But the laptop could not see it Or the PrinterSo thought maybe I needed to set up sharing on the laptop too? Did I? So set the laptop up exactly the same.
I recently bought a windows laptop running vista to do windows testing on for web development (I use macs normally).I was shocked to find that I can't simply push connect, enter a key and then be connected to our home wireless network... no of course not because it's windows and nothing is easy or practical.Anyhow, before I go on an anti windows rant, I actually need this working.So at home we have a wireless network secured by a 32bit WEP key.On our macs I simply push connect, enter this key and we're away.With my new vista machine I go to Network & Sharing Center -> Connect to a network and click our network.I'm then immediately met with a screen that says "Press the configuration button on your access point". I have no idea what this means.Down the bottom of the screen there is an option that says "I can't find the configuration button... I want to enter the network key or passphrase instead" Which I click.The next screen I click "Enter/Select additional log on information" but this brings up a user name/ password/ login domain screen... I just want to enter my 32 bit key and be connected. I'm using a D-Link DIR-615 wireless router.Also, when I run "ipconfig" in the command prompt I get."Media State....: Media disconnected"
I have vista installed in my HP m/c.Earlier the 'connect to Networ' list was showing my WIFI nw but suddenly it doesn't show now n the list while other wifi n/ws are still shown in the vicinity.I tied to setip the wireless n/w using 'HP Wireless Assstant' wizard but while I select the routr as Dlonk th mdel shown in the list doesn't show Dir-300 so it gives the message as 'HP network assistant currently doesn't support te router you selected'. What can be done to get wifi in the list of availale networks.
My gateway vista m-6750 laptop will not connect with wifi. Why is this. I used the operating disk that came sigh the system and nothing. I aso used the two restore CDs that gateway sent me and still no wifi. It won't connect at the free wifi hotspots. I even have At&t wifi service for $19.99 and still no wifi.
I have an HP laptop (vista) and I can connect to the internet when I use the ethernet cable but when I don't have the ethernet in, it just says that it is an unidentified network and an only connect locally. I have run an ipconfig/all and this is what I get:

I am having internet connected to my Desktop with Win XP. Internet mode is Wireless Data Card that can be inserted into USB port.Now I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I was able to connect both of them using ethernet cross over cable and successfully enabled file sharing through Local Area Network.But I want to access Internet from the laptop. Is it possible? when I typed ipconfig in cmd prompt in desktop, [code] And for Vista , I have IPv4 with ipadress as 192.168.0.2
My laptop simply decided to stop connecting to my wireless network.I'm at a loss as to why and what to do. All other devices in my house are getting a perfect signal from the network but my computer either can't find it, or only has 1 green bar and says it cannot connect. I've tried a system restore, I've tried to troubleshoot on my computer and can't figure it out. The weird thing is it is picking up other wireless signals fine (like my neighbors, ect) but just not my home one. Again, it was working one minute, then simply stopped working and hasn't been able to connect at all.
I have been trying to connect to the internet with my new adsl2+ wireless internet with dodo, i rang them and they say its my toshiba laptop windows vista that is the problem, it says that i can connect to the internet and from their end it confirms it however when i open a web browser it always comes up with page unavailable, i can connect no issues to the net via the modem connection cable but i need to connect wirelessly asap?
I restored an old Vista laptop to out-of-the-box state to give to my Dad. This laptop had a wireless connection to the internet and network previously. After the restore, I can't get a connection to the internet, even though my router sees it and it has an ip address. It says Unidentified Network Local Access only, and it doesn't see any of the computers on the network. Sometimes the other computers see it but can't connect, sometimes, the other computers don't see it. I hate Vista.

All my other eight devices have an internet connection no problem, but I powered off the modem and router a couple of times with no change. I tried updating the Atheros to the latest driver on Toshiba's website for this model, but it doesn't seem to take. If I uninstall the old drivers, Windows rudely just immediately reinstalls them again. If I just update the driver, and pick the new file, the driver version remains the same as the previous driver. I'm banging my head on the wall with the driver

I have an Advent Laptop running vista and I have a problem with windows suddenly not being able to find one specific wifi network. I have no problem connecting to my home network, or that of any of my friends networks.However when I go to the holiday park where I have a caravan and go into the owners lounge to use the free wifi windows can't find it. (I used to be able to connect with no problem, it's just that for some reason windows can't find it now). Everybody else in the lounge can connect with no problem.If I use my phone's usb tethering feature I can connect to the wifi network. If go into another part of the complex I can connect to the wifi there with no problem.On the park they operate two networks, one in the owners lounge, the one I can no longer connect to, and one in the cafe/bar which I can connect to.I can only assume that some 'setting' on my laptop has changed and is stopping windows finding the network, but I have no idea what it could be.
I've got a Vista Business PC and a Vista Business Laptop connected via a virgin media router (Netgear CG2100D) and I cannot get the two machines to see each other correctly over the network. The laptop is connected via wireless, whilst the pc is wired. Both are set to recieve their network settings automatically (DHCP) and both have the windows firewall (the only firewall on either) turned off completely.
I can ping each machine fine from one another using the ip addresses, and I can also connect via . However, connections via fail, and I cannot see the machines in the network map.
I have tried turning netBIOS to be "always on" on both adapters, but this makes no difference.
I've been messing around pretty much for 6 hours now and am getting quite fustrated by this! (my original aim was to get media sharing working, but I've pretty much abandoned that for now).
We have a HP Pavilion with Vista that we cannot get connected wirelessly to centurylink's pk5001z. It will connect to the internet if it is hooked up to the ethernet cable. We can take this laptop to McDonald's and use their wi-fi, or at my parents...or seemingly anywhere else. We have successfully connected 3 other laptops to the wireless signal thru the pk5001z. We had the geeksquad advise us several times...going as far as they accessed this laptop remotely...and still can't obtain a solution. Do we need a different modem? The laptop sees that there is a network available but won't allow access to it. (it shows the network name in () and indicates local connection only)

home network was working fine up until a few days ago. unsure what happened but my Vista laptop no longer can see my desktop, printer and backup F: drive on the network. My friends has a compaq computer running vista that can't connect to the internet. The computer can see networks, but when it tries to connect to them it says, "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual". We've tried hooking it up directly to the router with a LAN cable, but that doesn't work either. On his windows update it says there's an update ready for his wireless card driver, but you have to be able to connect to the internet to download it.
I have a computer running Windows Vista that has been unable to access the internet, either with wireless or cable. It just says that no connections are available.Troubleshoot doesn't detect any problems.I also realized that I cannot access device manager, nor can I add/uninstall anything. When trying to get into device manager, I get " the specified service does not exist as an installed device".
My Laptop stopped having internet access. I am able to connect to my Linksys (says Limited Access) but then it states I do not have internet access. I read other forums and tried to do the "command prompt" but when I try to run as administrator it tells me "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.

-Restarting the machine -Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically -Checking the connection on another computer, works fine. -Disabling the IpV6 -Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup -Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter -System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.
This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."
Is it normal to have packet losses of between 2 and 6% when using wireless. Laptop is running Vista Home premium. Internet is DSL light Router is Netgear WNR834B. Signal strength is good
I upgraded my old Linksys wrt54g to the E1500. All the XP os are connected via cable and wireless connection, but the Vista laptop i get local access only connection error. This laptop used to connect on the older router using wep but with E1500 wpa-2 it cannot connect. I am unable to ping the router from the laptop wireless. Connecting ethernet cable it works fine and logging in as a guest works does too.
