I have 2 computers One desktop and one Laptop Both are Vista Home Premium I want to set up a network between them to share files-printer etc Done exactly what it says here [URL]Went to the Desktop pc - Chose turn on network discovery, both are in Workgroup name Picked Private Network and turn on Printer Sharing.and no passwords. Then tried to see a folder I shared. But the laptop could not see it Or the PrinterSo thought maybe I needed to set up sharing on the laptop too? Did I? So set the laptop up exactly the same.
My desktop is my main computer and is connected to a wireless router. I have added my laptop which i can see and can get into it's files. On the laptop, I cannot get into the desktop files and I cannot share the printer that is connected to the desktop.
We have a router and wireless network at my house, but i am the only one in the house who cannot connect to the wifi with my laptop. Well, i can connect to the network, but my computer won't connect to the internet. I've tried power cycling the router/modem several different times, to no avail. In the Network and Sharing center, it says the access is Local Only.
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium , Service Pack 2, 32 bit Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60, x64 Family 15 Model 104 Stepping 2
I am having internet connected to my Desktop with Win XP. Internet mode is Wireless Data Card that can be inserted into USB port. Now I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I was able to connect both of them using ethernet cross over cable and successfully enabled file sharing through Local Area Network. But I want to access Internet from the laptop. Is it possible? when I typed ipconfig in cmd prompt in desktop, [code] And for Vista , I have IPv4 with ipadress as 192.168.0.2
My entire floor receives wifi from a D-Link router box. For the first 4 months, my laptop was able to find and connect to our wifi fine. Last night the internet crashed. All of my German housemates have internet again, but my laptop does not show the network anymore. My wireless card picks up all the other signals in range, but not our router's. I can only get internet with an ethernet cable.
I restored an old Vista laptop to out-of-the-box state to give to my Dad. This laptop had a wireless connection to the internet and network previously. After the restore, I can't get a connection to the internet, even though my router sees it and it has an ip address. It says Unidentified Network Local Access only, and it doesn't see any of the computers on the network. Sometimes the other computers see it but can't connect, sometimes, the other computers don't see it. I hate Vista.
Stats on Laptop: Toshiba A215-S4747 Atheros AR5007EG
All my other eight devices have an internet connection no problem, but I powered off the modem and router a couple of times with no change. I tried updating the Atheros to the latest driver on Toshiba's website for this model, but it doesn't seem to take. If I uninstall the old drivers, Windows rudely just immediately reinstalls them again. If I just update the driver, and pick the new file, the driver version remains the same as the previous driver. I'm banging my head on the wall with the driver
Ping successful on: 192.168.1.11 (the laptop's IP address) localhost
I have an Advent Laptop running vista and I have a problem with windows suddenly not being able to find one specific wifi network. I have no problem connecting to my home network, or that of any of my friends networks. However when I go to the holiday park where I have a caravan and go into the owners lounge to use the free wifi windows can't find it. (I used to be able to connect with no problem, it's just that for some reason windows can't find it now). Everybody else in the lounge can connect with no problem. If I use my phone's usb tethering feature I can connect to the wifi network. If go into another part of the complex I can connect to the wifi there with no problem. On the park they operate two networks, one in the owners lounge, the one I can no longer connect to, and one in the cafe/bar which I can connect to.I can only assume that some 'setting' on my laptop has changed and is stopping windows finding the network, but I have no idea what it could be.
I've got a Vista Business PC and a Vista Business Laptop connected via a virgin media router (Netgear CG2100D) and I cannot get the two machines to see each other correctly over the network. The laptop is connected via wireless, whilst the pc is wired. Both are set to recieve their network settings automatically (DHCP) and both have the windows firewall (the only firewall on either) turned off completely.
I can ping each machine fine from one another using the ip addresses, and I can also connect via . However, connections via fail, and I cannot see the machines in the network map.
I have tried turning netBIOS to be "always on" on both adapters, but this makes no difference.
I've been messing around pretty much for 6 hours now and am getting quite fustrated by this! (my original aim was to get media sharing working, but I've pretty much abandoned that for now).

error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. The router is Cisco Linksys E2000. No problems before and not with apple products going online, this hp is about 7 years old. Seemed to suddenly stop accessing internet.
My girlfriend has just had Virgin Media installed in her house. She has a vista laptop which she is trying to connect wirelessly to the network. She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet. She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually. There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.
my laptop isn't showing my wireless internet connection in the list. But my phone is connecting to my wireless internet connection without any problem.I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows Vista.
we have netgear wireless router. plug in the line from the dsl or cable modem to router and line out to our reg pc. Our wireless laptop shows that there is a connection to our wireless network but will not bring up a web page. The line out to the home computer will not bring up a web page when coming out of router to pc or to laptop. Is it the router? we have powered it down and hit the red button on the back to reset router but still nothing, how do we fix the router?
So, I happened to do CD recovery a day ago; *Due to forgetting Administrator password* and now my laptop seems to not be able to pick up any wireless connections when there usually is a ton. Also every time my laptop restarts it always loads saying "Preparing for first time use" Like I used the CD recovery again. which I didn't. I thought that maybe it has to do with the Drivers and such, though im not very tech fancy, so I wouldn't exactly know where to find the correct driver to install, and which to install.[code] Oh and lastly, I happened to notice on Driver manager, that on "other devices" there is a yellow exclamation point, on both of them: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 and Network Controller.
I am having trouble getting internet access on my daughters laptop. she has os vista while my pc is windows xp. keep getting connection unsuccessful...this computer is connected to dlink but does not have access to the internet. showing currently connected to unidentified network(dlink) access:local only. took it to a shop where the man connected to his internet straight away? I'm also on a hp laptop (dv8000 vista 32) and have the same problem. Other hp and dell laptops in the house have no problem (xp and win 7). Tried system restore, turning off firewall but so far no luck.I found a microsoft "fix" mentioned here: Smoke & Mirrors: Vista - Access: Limited Connectivity but unsure since the first time didn't work (before system restore).

I am trying to connect my Laptop to Media Player HDD connected via Ethernet to Router. I want to channel traffic to/fro HDD separately from that of internet to/fro laptop (to make it faster - my assumption)
I have successfully done this by using the router as a switch when I had a cable modem. But now I have an ADSL connection to internet and my internet gets kicked off while I connect these using VLAN.
What I want is best possible configuration of my hardware to access internet and play/transfer media files on my laptop
My os is vista I have belkin Wireless router Iam trying to connect my laptop to wireless.it wont have any problem outside of home but at home i click on connect to a network and click on my wireless network and it says sucesfully connected but it is not connected to internet network and sharing center shows unidentified network?
I have one laptop (Windows Vista) and one PC (Windows 7) in my house and I am trying to share folders between them. The problem is I can access my laptop's files from my pc, but I can't access my pc's files from my laptop.
And when I go to Network and Sharing Center, on "View your active networks" part, I click joined to give check mark on Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents, and Printers (the default setting: only printers that got checked). After I checked those all, I click "Save changes". But, if I go back to click "Joined" It was set as default, it is like it doesn't save my setting.
