Jun 9, 2011My gateway vista m-6750 laptop will not connect with wifi. Why is this. I used the operating disk that came sigh the system and nothing. I aso used the two restore CDs that gateway sent me and still no wifi. It won't connect at the free wifi hotspots. I even have At&t wifi service for $19.99 and still no wifi.

May 5, 2011I have recently gotten a Virgin Super Hub router and everyone in the house is able to connect to the internet fine except me. I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista running on it. I am able to connect locally to the network however it lists it as an "unidentified network" and when I try to diagnose the problem I receive notifications such as "Cannot communicate with primary DNS server 194.168.4.100" and "Network Diagnostic pinged remote host but did not receive a response. When I have a cable plugged into the router and my laptop I am able to connect but on a separate network "Network 3".

Sep 7, 2011My girlfriend has just had Virgin Media installed in her house. She has a vista laptop which she is trying to connect wirelessly to the network. She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet.She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually.There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.

I am trying to connect my Laptop to Media Player HDD connected via Ethernet to Router. I want to channel traffic to/fro HDD separately from that of internet to/fro laptop (to make it faster - my assumption)
I have successfully done this by using the router as a switch when I had a cable modem. But now I have an ADSL connection to internet and my internet gets kicked off while I connect these using VLAN.
What I want is best possible configuration of my hardware to access internet and play/transfer media files on my laptop

I restored an old Vista laptop to out-of-the-box state to give to my Dad. This laptop had a wireless connection to the internet and network previously. After the restore, I can't get a connection to the internet, even though my router sees it and it has an ip address. It says Unidentified Network Local Access only, and it doesn't see any of the computers on the network. Sometimes the other computers see it but can't connect, sometimes, the other computers don't see it. I hate Vista.

All my other eight devices have an internet connection no problem, but I powered off the modem and router a couple of times with no change. I tried updating the Atheros to the latest driver on Toshiba's website for this model, but it doesn't seem to take. If I uninstall the old drivers, Windows rudely just immediately reinstalls them again. If I just update the driver, and pick the new file, the driver version remains the same as the previous driver. I'm banging my head on the wall with the driver

Dec 3, 2012Suddenly Can't access shared folders but others can . Laptop with Vista. Had many Mapped [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue ! important]Network [COLOR=blue ! important]Drive[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] issues about 2 months ago. Finally all resolved. Laptop was gone from our shop for about 2 weeks. Now it cannot see the Shared Folders (except for Public and Printers), and could not re-connect the Mapped Drives. Accesses Internet, can Ping the other PCs(all running Win7). Connect thru Wireless.
Why SUDDENLY, there are no shared folders visible on a Laptop?
Notes: This is the 2nd time this has happened. I changed alot of settings the first time. I re-checked all the settings this time.
Update: Magically works today 12-3-12. But what caused it? Why does Vista loose the ability to map network drives, when nothing
changes...I still want to know why for the next time this happens.

Jun 17, 2012I have an Advent Laptop running vista and I have a problem with windows suddenly not being able to find one specific wifi network. I have no problem connecting to my home network, or that of any of my friends networks.However when I go to the holiday park where I have a caravan and go into the owners lounge to use the free wifi windows can't find it. (I used to be able to connect with no problem, it's just that for some reason windows can't find it now). Everybody else in the lounge can connect with no problem.If I use my phone's usb tethering feature I can connect to the wifi network. If go into another part of the complex I can connect to the wifi there with no problem.On the park they operate two networks, one in the owners lounge, the one I can no longer connect to, and one in the cafe/bar which I can connect to.I can only assume that some 'setting' on my laptop has changed and is stopping windows finding the network, but I have no idea what it could be.
