My gateway vista m-6750 laptop will not connect with wifi. Why is this. I used the operating disk that came sigh the system and nothing. I aso used the two restore CDs that gateway sent me and still no wifi. It won't connect at the free wifi hotspots. I even have At&t wifi service for $19.99 and still no wifi.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo here is what happened, it started two days ago. I use a wifi connection at work, it's an unsecure wifi and I don't know where it comes from. But I am able to get on here at work and do stuff... two days ago I tried and it let me on like normal, but then I couldn't get on websites, it said local access only... so I was like mmm that's odd and the little CD looking thing wasn't there it was just two computers on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. So I restarted after attempting a few times... same problem, finally after a while it let me online but it was very slow and kept kicking me off. When I would try to reconnect sometimes it wouldn't let me and it would give me the option to diagnose the problem or try a new network, I'd move around and finally get on.
I restored back to a day when it was working fine, I did a disc clean up, I used my CCleaner, I defragged my laptop. Still the same problem, my laptop is a Gateway computer running on Windows Vista... so today at first my wifi wouldn't work unless I was standing and holding it... which I found the higher in the air the better it stays connected it seems sometimes.I chatted with gateway and they gave me a few links to download which failed to download once they got to like 30% or so, so I am all out of options I downloaded the wifi link here Download free driver for notebook Gateway ML3109 (Windows 7, XP, Vista) - DriverPack Solutio since that is my laptop
Have a new Gateway laptop running W8. I have to use Windows diagnostics in Sharing centre to reset the connection although it looks like it is still up.( page cannot be displayed ). Once reset and fixe all is ok until pc goes into sleep mode, then I have to reset again.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend has just had Virgin Media installed in her house. She has a vista laptop which she is trying to connect wirelessly to the network. She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet.She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually.There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy sister and brother live next door to each other and althought they both use my sisters wifi they want to be able to homegroup or network via wifi without either of them having to use the adsl cable from the router to their laptops.. I tried setting both computers up on a homegroup network but they cannot look at each others music and documents my sister has Win 7 64bit and my brother has Win vista 32 bit ? The win7 is in English so it does not seem to hard to find things. I downloaded for my sister -Advanced IPscanner - and Netcut but netcut does not seem to work on 64 bit and the IPscanner recognizes my brothers computer but will not shut it off - they wanted to be able to know when the other is online and also be able to cut one another off when they choose to.

I have a laptop that runs Windows Vista, and every time I want to connect to the Internet, I had it where I would enter the password each time, and I would always uncheck the boxes to save the connection. Today, my sister gets on my laptop and leaves the boxes checked, so now when I connect to my WiFi, I don't have to enter in a password anymore. Personally, I don't like this, and want to revert back to having to enter in the password each time. Is there a way that I can do that in Windows Vista, without having to reset the password itself or fooling with the router?

Is there any recommended software that would enable me to do that or is Remote Desktop Connection able to do it, and what information would I need in order to be able to identify her on the Internet? I would have thought that any IP address that she can see under 'Network & Sharing Centre' or through the Command Prompt would only display the generic IP address of her ISP, wouldn't it? We can take this laptop to McDonald's and use their wi-fi, or at my parents...or seemingly anywhere else. We have successfully connected 3 other laptops to the wireless signal thru the pk5001z. All other computers have been able to connect to the internet with no problems, and my computer will connect to other wifi connections, no problem.I can connect with a wire directly to the router, but no luck with wifi. I'm using a Dell Vostro, running Win Vista with all updates. I have Trend Micro Titanium and Comodo Firewall. I primarily use Firefox (completely updated) but also have IE 9. Until a few days ago I regularly connected to various public WIFIs, by: connecting to the WIFI network, opening Firefox which would then automatically take me the network's (Panera for example) user agreement page, clicking on "I accept" or "I agree" then gaining access to the internet. Two days ago I was at a local establishment where I have connected before. I connected to their network and opened Firefox as usual. Instead of connecting to their user agreement page as usual, Firefox tried to connect to my homepage (Washington Post) and failed.
The network icon in the sys tray showed I was connected to the local network but with local access only. This has now happened three times in three different public locations over the past 2 days. Each time I've successfully connect to the network but when opening Firefox or IE9 I am not directed to the user agreement page and therefore am not gaining access to the internet.Normally in the past once I had connected to the local network and opened my browser Comodo would open a warning window asking me if I wished to continue. This also is no longer happening as Comodo is not detecting me being connected to the internet, I'm sure.
Laptop has been connecting to internet for years. Originally using wireless Linksys router but wireless card in laptop stopped working. Have been connecting via Ethernet connection for over a year. View 5 Replies View RelatedOkay, so our old computer took a dump & our friend rebuilt us a new one and he threw in a new router to go with it. Its a D-Link router, which is directly connected to our desktop. However, upon completion of a new desk installment, we put the router into the cabinet and my gateway laptop immediately stopped being able to connect to the internet or the router at all.
1) The router is connected to the internet and broadcasting.
2) I've reset and refreshed the router and my window of available networks on my laptop, which did not work.
3) I've pulled it out of the cabinet, which also had no affect.
4) I did a manual search for the router, and it says the network already exists and asks if i would like to connect and upon agreeing to this, it returns me to the page of available networks, which does not include my router.
I'm unable to connect to the internet from my laptop. When I do a diagnostic test it tells me that the default gateway is not available. I've tried resetting it, resetting my IP address via command prompt, restarting the router, etc.

While both of our laptops can acquire a network connection, she is able to browse the internet almost immediately, while my computer takes 30 seconds to a minute longer to connect to the same network, and then can take up to 3 minutes before any web browser recognizes the connection. This happens on every connection I make (school, work, home, etc.)Steps I have taken:
-Updated the driver for my wireless adaptor (Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter), and nothing changed.
-Windows 7 service pack (6.1)
-Downloaded AVG, Spybot, Advanced System Care, and IObit Security and run scans in all 4 at least 3 times a week.
-Cleaned up hard drive files so that each of my two hard drives is less than 70% full.
-Removed superfluous internet connections and prioritized the important connections I use regularly.
My wifi was installed about two weeks ago and up until now its been fine. My ipod connects to the wifi just fine while my laptop acts as if it is non existent.

The idea is for HomeB which has a dynamic IP, to reach HomeA, which has a static IP and connect. But they just wont. I have not clue what's wrong, I followed the instructions, maybe i miss interpreted something. I could share the VPN logs for both., Im getting a lot of errors there.
