Pk5001z - CenturyLink And Their Modem Won't Allow Windows Vista Laptop To Connect Wirelessly

We have a HP Pavilion with Vista that we cannot get connected wirelessly to centurylink's pk5001z. It will connect to the internet if it is hooked up to the ethernet cable. We can take this laptop to McDonald's and use their wi-fi, or at my parents...or seemingly anywhere else. We have successfully connected 3 other laptops to the wireless signal thru the pk5001z. We had the geeksquad advise us several times...going as far as they accessed this laptop remotely...and still can't obtain a solution. Do we need a different modem? The laptop sees that there is a network available but won't allow access to it. (it shows the network name in () and indicates local connection only)
The problem I was having was my laptop wouldn't connect to my new router provided by them, it would say it was connected but 'Local Only'. Turned out in the end all I needed to do was update my Atheros and Realtek drivers. Months down the line, now having the same symptoms, I decide to update my drivers only to find out there are no updates available and my drivers are up to date and working. The only other thing that may be the root to the this problem is the fact last night I connected to my girlfriends router at her house with this same laptop. Now I come back to my router this evening and I'm having these symptoms I had months ago. It's also saying the network is 'Undentified' eventhough it SAYS it's connected. It doesnt allow me to access the internet at all. I removed the history of my girlfriends connection on manage wireless networks, including my own.
I wiped vista and installed windows Xp now my modem wont recognize and i dont have internet. i have tried burning the Drivers from Cisco onto another CD From another Machine but it says it needs internet connection to do so. i can't connect or anything i have a DPC2203 cable modem?
I am hoping to be able to connect remotely to my friend's Vista laptop (connected to the Internet via a dial-up in a developing country) from my own wireless broadband PC (Win 7).
Is there any recommended software that would enable me to do that or is Remote Desktop Connection able to do it, and what information would I need in order to be able to identify her on the Internet? I would have thought that any IP address that she can see under 'Network & Sharing Centre' or through the Command Prompt would only display the generic IP address of her ISP, wouldn't it? And would both of us need the same type of software to allow me to connect?
I have been trying to connect to the internet with my new adsl2+ wireless internet with dodo, i rang them and they say its my toshiba laptop windows vista that is the problem, it says that i can connect to the internet and from their end it confirms it however when i open a web browser it always comes up with page unavailable, i can connect no issues to the net via the modem connection cable but i need to connect wirelessly asap?
I am not able to connect my HP laptop (Windows Vista) to the internet via a wireless router/high speed internet.My internet service provider confirmed that it is a problem with my HP laptop.I have a Linksys router. My other laptop (Sony) connects fine.I have tried two browsers on my HP laptop to access the internet with no luck.My HP laptop does say that I am connected to the wireless network.
i have an Iomega Prestige Desktop External Hard drive usb 2.0.I also have a quest-centurylink ZyXEL modem model #PK5000Z.I would like to connect the iomega to the modem. However, I don't see a usb port on the modem.
I am having trouble getting internet access on my daughters laptop. she has os vista while my pc is windows xp. keep getting connection unsuccessful...this computer is connected to dlink but does not have access to the internet. showing currently connected to unidentified network(dlink) access:local only. took it to a shop where the man connected to his internet straight away? I have one laptop (Windows Vista) and one PC (Windows 7) in my house and I am trying to share folders between them. The problem is I can access my laptop's files from my pc, but I can't access my pc's files from my laptop.
And when I go to Network and Sharing Center, on "View your active networks" part, I click joined to give check mark on Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents, and Printers (the default setting: only printers that got checked). After I checked those all, I click "Save changes". But, if I go back to click "Joined" It was set as default, it is like it doesn't save my setting.
My Laptop will only connect to the internet if I directly connect the ethernet cable from the router to the computer. Otherwise it will 'connect' local only[CODE]
I have a laptop with a wireless connection to a netgear router. My Internet work perfectly, however after a certaiN amount of time I can't access the Internet although it still stats that I am connected. It reads " connected with limited access". I then have to restart my laptop to gain Internet access again. I have other computers and laptops and tablets that don't share this problem.
I have a friend whose Dell Latitude D800 and has been able to connect to the internet wirelessly using a Net Gear wireless adaptor.Comcast cable came several days ago to set them up to connect to the internet using their cable modem. The modem is working fine and packets are sent out but there is no internet connection and no packets received.
i really don't get it what caused this. There was a problem from the provider.. then this .. I resetted the router, could get to the Interface.. and now i can't And besides that, the internet connection get's picky to what lets work For example i could use gmail .. but not this page.. or instant messaging worked, but not browsing (and the speed was awful) at the moment the connection seems stable though (the changes from above were made)
This may seem blatantly obvious to some of you, but is it possible to connect a wireless router wirelessly to a wireless dsl modem. Due to geographic issues in the building, I would like to prevent running a cable from A to B if possible.
I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.
I have tried:
-Restarting the machine -Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically -Checking the connection on another computer, works fine. -Disabling the IpV6 -Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup -Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter -System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.
I want to work on quickbooks 2010 pro between my desktop which is windows vista and my lap top windows 7. I will be the only user, how do i set this up?
My wife can't access the internet on her laptop, The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1750 with Windows 32 bit vista. I have the Internet plugged into the wire on the side of the computer, I am not using the wireless at the home. The wire going to the computer works on another computer for the internet.

I received a new hard drive along with recovery discs from dell yesterday. They told me the new drive would be blank and I would have to run the discs. Not a problem. Installed the OS along with the drivers that had check marks next to them.
Today I plug in my home internet and it won't work. Unplug it and turn the wireless back on and it gets online just fine.
I'm having a big problem with my connectivity. I can connect to the internet (a BT Home Hub router) using my ethernet cable but not using wireless. My computer is searching and finding wireless networks, but when I try to connect to my router, it says limited access/connectivity.
I haven't used my computer in quite a long time (7 months) as it stopped working and is miraculously working again now (huzzah!) but the wireless does not, when it was perfect previously.

I just got a TL- WR740N router and somehow managed to configure it using my girlfriends Acer Aspire One Happy netbook.The internet works fine when the netbook is connected to the router via cable but it can't connect wirelessly to the network I have created. At first some massege appeared saying that there are 2 identical IP's and there is a conflict or something like that. Now it just stops trying to connect to the network. I can connect with my own laptop tho.
I was trying to configure a friend's router, but their laptop wouldn't connect wirelessly. Initially, I couldn't connect via ethernet cable either, but I went into the settings and set it to obtain an IP address automatically. After that, I could connect via ethernet no problem.I was able to successfully connect wirelessly on two different mobile phones.I still can't connect wirelessly to this router (well, technically it says it's connected to the network, but it won't connect to the internet, nor can I bring up the hub settings). However, I can connect to their old router no problem. I'm not sure whether the problem lies with the laptop or the router, and don't presently have another laptop to check
My desktop (that I am currently on) connects fine to the router but I can't get my laptop to wirelessly connect to the router.. it finds it and sometimes it says that it is connected but the connection is broken and can't be repaired. The wireless on the laptop itself says it is also loggen in. I really don't know what to do.. My laptop only connects wirelessly if it's in the same room (actually, at the same desk) as the router. I just installed a new router and that did not solve the problem. I took the laptop to a pc repair shop and it connected wirelessly there withouto a problem; I also took it to Best Buy and was able to connect wirelessly there as well). Okay so I have been troubleshooting my husband's toshiba laptop. Its only a couple years old, has windows vista, and works fine other than it wont' connect to the internet wirelessly. I looked at the adapter card and it says there are no issues and it will connect via ethernet, I just need it to connect wirelessly for school. I would try my wireless USB adapter but is in storage in Texas.
My laptop is not showing the option to connect wirelessly . i was using the internet wirelessly two days ago but now the only option that shows up is connect via broadband ethernet cable. if i go to the control panel and open network and sharing center and i pick connect to the internet the only option i get is broadband. and if i click show a list of options i dont have it only shows dial up connections
error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. The router is Cisco Linksys E2000. No problems before and not with apple products going online, this hp is about 7 years old. Seemed to suddenly stop accessing internet.
My girlfriend has just had Virgin Media installed in her house. She has a vista laptop which she is trying to connect wirelessly to the network. She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet.She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually.There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.
