Connect Router To Dsl Modem Wirelessly?
Oct 19, 2011
This may seem blatantly obvious to some of you, but is it possible to connect a wireless router wirelessly to a wireless dsl modem. Due to geographic issues in the building, I would like to prevent running a cable from A to B if possible.

i really don't get it what caused this. There was a problem from the provider.. then this .. I resetted the router, could get to the Interface.. and now i can't And besides that, the internet connection get's picky to what lets work For example i could use gmail .. but not this page.. or instant messaging worked, but not browsing (and the speed was awful)
at the moment the connection seems stable though (the changes from above were made)

We have a HP Pavilion with Vista that we cannot get connected wirelessly to centurylink's pk5001z. It will connect to the internet if it is hooked up to the ethernet cable. We can take this laptop to McDonald's and use their wi-fi, or at my parents...or seemingly anywhere else. We have successfully connected 3 other laptops to the wireless signal thru the pk5001z. We had the geeksquad advise us several times...going as far as they accessed this laptop remotely...and still can't obtain a solution. Do we need a different modem? The laptop sees that there is a network available but won't allow access to it. (it shows the network name in () and indicates local connection only)

I'm having trouble connecting to my Belkin router wirelessly (Wired works fine). I try to get to the IP address (192.168.0.2 and every other version of that) but it does not connect. On the router only Security, Wired, and Router are lit up; Wireless, Modem, and Internet are dark. I have reached the end of my limited computer capabilities trying to fix this problem myself.

Yesterday everything was working fine, but when I got home today I couldn't connect to my router. I tried connecting on my computer, my mac, and my netbook ALL couldn't even find the SSID. I directly connected my mac and netbook to my modem and was able to connect to the internet, so I know it's not an ISP problem. I then re-connected the WAN cord from my modem to the back of my Netgear Wireless-G Router WGR614V10. All the lights come on but I still can't find the router when I tried connecting wirelessly. When I connect an Ethernet cord to a LAN port on the router, I can get connection.

I can't connect via wifi to my router, but can connect to the internet with an ethernet cable. However, my other computer connects via wifi without problems. I've gone through my troubleshooting and the wifi light is on, so that's not the issue. I also updated my driver (says it's working fine) and even tried to uninstall and reinstall it. I am not sure what else to do. If I try to connect via wifi though, the computer recognizes all the available networks, including my own, but just won't connect. It says a cable is unplugged (which at that time it is, because it's supposed to connect wirelessly).I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3147sb Entertainment notebook, and it uses Windows 7.

I have purchased a Sony bravia tv with built in wireless. However I am unable to connect the tv wirelessly but I am able to connect wired.I have tried changing various settings on the livebox including taking off the firewall and changing the channel nmber (frequency) and still unable to connect. The tv does pick up the SSID of the router but the router just doesn't seem to release an IP address within its range as I keep getting a 169.x.x.x instead of 192.x.x.x.

I just got a TL- WR740N router and somehow managed to configure it using my girlfriends Acer Aspire One Happy netbook. The internet works fine when the netbook is connected to the router via cable but it can't connect wirelessly to the network I have created. At first some massege appeared saying that there are 2 identical IP's and there is a conflict or something like that. Now it just stops trying to connect to the network. I can connect with my own laptop tho.

My laptop only connects wirelessly if it's in the same room (actually, at the same desk) as the router. I just installed a new router and that did not solve the problem. I took the laptop to a pc repair shop and it connected wirelessly there withouto a problem; I also took it to Best Buy and was able to connect wirelessly there as well). So, problem solvers figured it was the router (which was quite old)I've now replaced the router but still can't connect wirelessly unless I'm in the same room as the router!

I have the firmware 2.10NA. In my home we have about 4 laptops and 4 smartphones connecting to this router wirelessly and 3 of the laptops often lose connection for hours. We have tried unplugging the router and plugging it in again and factory reset and also resetting it through the IP address but the connection doesnt come back. Recently it has gone out for about 3 hours now. Also the wireless LED icon on the router constantly blinks is this normal? On the laptops where theres no connection it says limited connectivity. Is it possible that there is too many devices connected to the router or something. or could this be a problem with the laptops and not the router?

I have a WRT54G2 router with a desktop wired to it. The desktop is mine and my roommate wirelessly connects with her laptop and has been doing so no problem for about 6 months (ever since we got the router). On Christmas Eve, she was connected, went out, came home and found she'd lost her wireless connection. Now she can't get it back.I can still get online on the desktop.i've power cycled to no avail. What is weird is sometimes she will click on the list of available networks (so she can choose which she wants to connect to) and mine WILL be there, other times it will NOT. If she does happen to catch it at a moment when my network is there, and she tries to connect using the passphrase, it says "Trying to connect" or something to that effect, for like 3 minutes and then nothing happens. Also, not that I would need to, but if I go to "connect to" on my PC (as if I were looking to choose a network to connect to), my network name doesn't always show. It is random. Sometimes it does not even show when I go to "Networks" on my desktop.

My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

I have just bought a brand new Sony Vaio laptop VPCEH2. I have tried to connect wirelessly to my Netgear router (DG934G). The router and broadband is supplied by Sky. The laptop is running Windows 7. The router is sending a wireless sending fine to our desktop and two smartphones but the Vaio is unable to connect.
The Vaio finds the signal which is says is excellent but does not connect. Using an ethernet cable the internet connection is fine. I have been on the phone to Sky for nearly 2 hours across two nights and they have given up. We have tried setting up a new router password, disconnecting and reconnecting, establishing a connection in the Network and Sharing Cente using WPA security with no joy. I asked them if the router needed a firmware upgrade for Windows 7 and they were adamant that it did not - the firmware version is currently V2.02.44. I have checked the Windows 7 compatibility listings for Netgear routers but couldn't find the DG934G (or the DG834GT - which I believe is a newer version), listed.
The funny thing is that when Sky create a wireless connection in the sharing centre is did work for around 30 seconds where I was able to access around 5/6 webpages. The browser then stopped working and the connection was lost (with yellow warning triangle across the signal to bottom right of screen). Another thing to note was that Sky originally blamed the fault on a McAfee update. I looked into this and deinstalled McAfee and even spoke to them for a while and they confirmed that it had deinstalled and did some other tests and said it was definitely not their software causing the problem.

Im running a linksys wireless router, WRT54G V6 with firmware 1.02.8. It worked before I moved after I moved I can't connect via wireless. hard line works. i've tried resting to factor, i've tried not using ses, not using custom ssid. I've rest it like 5 times retarted the computers. I've hit the little cisco systems button on the front, this makes it work for a few minutes. When I hit the button it will go out then come back on white, and blink around 1-2 blinks per second, it will do this for maybe 1-2min. then stops and changes back to orange. and i get nothing from it. the WLAN light is on like it's working but I cannot detect it with my desktop or laptop, can i can detect 3 other routers around me. I've tried pretty much everything i know to do, tried flashing it, updating, about the only option i have left is throwing it out the window.

It happens every time. I then turn the router off and back on again. After this procedure I can successfully connect from both the desktop (wired) and laptop (wireless).

A couple nights ago, my wireless router (Linksys BEFW11S4 ver4) just stopped letting me connect to the internet. All the lights were still flashing as they should, I could still go to the setup page, I just could not connect to the internet, both through wired and wireless. I could connect straight through the modem though.
So I decided that since the router was probably over a decade old that maybe it was just its time, and I bought a new one (E1000). I connected it, and still could not connect to the internet. I then did some internet searching and found this [URL] and I followed what was mentioned in post 10 (MAC address clone and changing local IP). Now I can connect through the wired connection and I rejoiced thinking I solved it.
Then I checked my laptop and it won't even connect to the router. It sees the router, but when I ask it to connect, it just says it can't. I decided I was too exhausted to try searching and fixing it on my own and if I tried I'd just end up breaking something out of frustration.

I currently have an E1000 connected to my cable modem in my living room. It provides wireless access to my whole household.
I have a set of computers I want to have set up as a lab on their own router and have a WRT54GS available for me to modify.
The WRT is in the dining room (office) and the cable modem/E1000 are about 45 feet away.
I want to set up the wireless environment on the E1000 as 192.168.1.1-24 and the wired network as 192.168.2.1-24 with the wired network being able to wirelessly connect to the wired so all the machines in the house can see my server and other machines.

I have two E1200 routers, one of which I purchased last night. My table and netbook are only connecting wirelessly at 65Mbps max. These same devices connect to a WRT120N router at 150Mbps though.
I have the settings on the E1200 the same as the WRT120N.
So why is the the E1200 only connecting at 65Mbps then? Changing channels and MTU and beacons has no positive effect.
