Linksys Wireless Adapters :: How To Install WUSB600N Adapter With Windows 7
Nov 8, 2009
I am running Windows 7 with the WUSB600N (v.2). Here is how I got it to work. The driver support is not a .exe. You will have to install it yourself...but it's not a big deal.Download the Windows 7 driver for your OS version from the Linksys Support page.Save it to the desktop and then unzip it to the desktop so you can find it easier.Once unzipped you will see 3 folders: Mac, Win7 32 and Win7 64. Choose accordingly. What I did was install it through the "Device Manager". (Right click "My Computer", choose "Manage", then Device Manager",or use the "Search Bar under the Start Menu...whatever. Once you are in the Device Manager...
1. Make sure your WUSB600N is inserted in your computer.
2. Navigate down to "Network Adapters" If you see your WUSB600N adapter...great! Your halfway home!
3. Right click on the "Linksys WUSB600N Adapter.
4. Choose the option to " Update Driver Software"
5. Choose "Browse My Computer for Software"
6. Navigate to the desktop and choose the folder that contains the name of your Windows 7 platform.
7. It should update but, HOLD ON! We are not done yet!!!
In order for it to start transmitting in that shiny new 5GHZ band, you must go into "Network and Sharing Center". Once there, look on the left hand side of the main window and you will see "Change adapter settings"Go there. You should see here that your existing adapter is still working (enabled) and your new Linksys WUSB600N has a big fat red "X" under it (disabled).Right click on your existing adapter and choose, "DISABLE".Then, right click on the WUSB600N adapter and choose "ENABLE".The last thing you should have to do is choose the network you want to connect to (for me it was the 5GHZ one) ..and Viola!!

I've tried to connect the usb adapter with an Acer Aspire 7736ZG, installed with Windows 7 64bit edition. Well, I *can't*.
- I started the CD installation and when prompted, I've connected the USB stick. Well, the stick couldn't be detected, and the installation couldn't continue.
- Then, I used the Windows7 drivers and managed to install the device (device manager, sees the device normally). But, the CD still couldn't continue the installation of extra software.
- Ok, no linksys software - no big deal. I would use the Windosw wireless management program. NO! The card seems not be present, and the only wireless connections I get, is by the onboard 802.11n card of the laptop (don't ask why I bought an extra 802.11n card).
- Nothing happens by disabling the onboard 802.11n card and trying all over again.
- If I go to the connection and sharing center and select "change setting of adapter", well, my expensive and cisco-super-duper card, isn't there, and I can only find the Atheros ARB93 Wireless card and the local (wired) adapter.
So, to sum up, 64bit driver seems to be installed correctly on the device manager (as proposed on other threads) but the adapter is not present on the system. How cool is that?

I am trying to connect to the internet a second, older tower using the WUSB600N ver 2 adapter, the unfortunate part is that I have lost my CD's that originally came with the adapter. I am on my primary machine right now so I am able to get online. I am wondering if there is a way that I can get the proper drivers or software, put them on a USB drive and then put them on the computer that I am trying to connect?I have already tried this, but I cannot seem to get the steps right or I don't necessarily know what I am doing. I am at the Linksys support Page [URL] and I have tried to do as I mentioned before, but I am sort of just expecting it to GO and its not working. The computer i would like to make the WUSB600N adapter for is running windows XP pro Service Pack 3?

I recently upgraded my computer (not laptop) from Windows XP to Windows 7-32 bit. I redownloaded and installed Network Magic, Linksys Wireless Manager and my WUSB600N adapter properly (I hope). Now everything was working fine, I was able to get onto my network through the adapter but today I noticed that the Linksys Wireless Manager seemed to not connect to my network, instead my computer some how did it without the wireless manager. Now when I tried to connect to a network through the Wireless Manager it said Error: 211 and said My Adapter may not be installed properly and told me to remove the adapter and attach it back after 20 seconds. I tried that but again my computer connected to the network STILL through the computers own manager not through the Linksys Wireless Manager. That was still saying Error 211. So the problem really is that the Linksys Wireless Manager wont detect my adapter but my computer is still able to detect it and connect to my network.

I need to control the rate at which my WUSB600N adapter connects to my access point. By default, it rate adapts through negotiation with the access point based on a set of possible rates. Can I restrict the set of rates my adapter can use (without re-writing the driver ). I've looked at netsh which provides stats about the rate my adapter is actually using but doesn't appear to allow me to set the desired rate. I'm using Windows Vista by the way.

I purchased the AE1000 wireless adapter for use with my Linksys WRT54G router. I first tried to install by loading the CD, which went so far as the "Insert your adapter into a USB port" screen. The Windows "processing" circle spun for about twenty minutes, then I was prompted to "insert the wireless adapter" once more. Rinse, repeat. I absolutely cannot get past this step. I scoured the web for an answer and turned up little. I uninstalled my antivirus and firewall software, made certain that files associated with my prior adapter were removed, tried varying USB ports (all 2.0) on my desktop, and had no success. Today, I exchanged the adapter for a replacement, and I'm encountering all of the same difficulties.

I get the following error when running the setup executable downloaded from this site:
Error description: Adapter can't be Found
Model name: AE1200/AE2500
Operating system: Windows 7 SP 1
Software version: 2.1.0.6
Motherboard is an asus p7p55
I have tried all 8 usb ports on the back of my computer and the 2 case ports. Non of them detect the adapter when running the setup executable. I have no other usb devices connected. Windows 7 was installed on this machine at the begining of this month. I have attempted to install the AE2500 on another windows 7 pc and it installed with no problems. I suspect the problem is the motherboard.

I have tried installing this device on Windows 7 64bit machine. The install seems to go fine and the device works at 2.4G.
But I purchased this unit to be able to test a clients 5GHz system. There does not seem to be any place to switch from 2.4G to 5.0G.

I'm trying to install a WMP54G PCI Version 4.1 in my Windows 2000 Pro SP4 computer. I ran the setup cd before installing the card, then took out the disk. After installing the card and powering the computer, the Available Wireless Network screen didn't appear. I also didn't get the Network Monitor icon on the taskbar. Network Monitor appears in the start menu, but can't be started. Device Manager says the card is working properly and there are no conflicts.
I uninstalled the software, removed the card, and repeated the installation process with the same end result. The card light blinks like it is receiving data. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G2 router. Both my desktop (W7) and my laptop (Vista) connect just fine. How can I get my W2K computer on the network?

I've got a bit of an issue. A friend of mine has recently gotten windows 7 installed into his desktop. When he tried to install the network adapter (wusb11 version 2.8), it installed. However, when we searched for it in the device manager, it did not appear. does Version 2.8 only cover up to Windows XP or is there software to make it work for Windows 7?

I have been trying to get the WUSB600N v 1 to enable in Win 7 Pro 64 bit for quiet awhile. Been reading all the posts here and elsewhere. Have tried all the drivers I could down load and still no luck. The drivers would install but the adapater would not enable. Read about some of the problems with Kaspersky but I had Zone Alarm installed and it did not have the same problem. So tonight I decided to completely remove Zone Alarm from the system. Once I removed ZA and rebooted the adapter functioned correctly. I am able to enable and connect using the WUSB600N v 1. Reinstalled ZA and 600N is still working correctly. It just would not install correctly with ZA on the system. I had previously tried disabling ZA but it took a complete removal to get it to work, I even tried it in safe mode but no luck. I don't have a clue as to what ZA was doing to block the adapter from working but it did. So if you have any kind of anti-virus or firewall you might try removing it and see it the adapter will work. I am currently using the latest drivers from the Ralink site but they would not work either until I removed ZA.Message Edited by curlysir on 02-22-2010 06:30 PM

I've been getting lag spikes with the WUSB600N. I am using Windows 7 64bit with service pack 1 installed. I had drivers version 3.0.1.0 installed and upgraded to version 3.0.10.0. After upgrading the problem got so so bad that I can't play online games at all. I tried rolling back drivers to 3.0.1.0 but it won't go back. I already tried reinstalling the drivers a few times and even reinstalled windows.

I've spent several hours of my life trying to rectify this silly problem without peace. Maybe one of you can enlighten me. I've got a Win98 laptop and have loaded the driver specified from the Linksys website. The software from the website under "Version 1" downloads a file entitled "...driver utility v3.1." I've installed and uninstalled it 3 times with restarts inbetween. Each time Device Mngr shows it is installed correctly but the "inactive" status persists. I get a "Power" light indicator but never the "Link" indicator on the adapter. I do not have a firewall or any other software that would interfere with the access point I have at my home (which works just fine with my Vista laptop). Furthermore, the wireless router is not secured either, so it is wide open and broadcasting. But as I said, the adaptor isn't even showing as "active" so all that stuff is moot I guess. I can not upgrade the laptop to another OS, it is an antique from 1999 and can't cut the mustard with the RAM and processor speed it has. Besides, it should work just fine with Win98 anyway.

wireless N adapter wusb600N and win 7 pro fully upgraded:Ive tried this with multiple adapters and multiple 3g providers/usb modems. When I connect the adapter, after a while, the 3g modem disconnects and turns red, and the modem connection software says it cant find the usb 3g device. It feels like the windows is somehow mixing the adapter, and the 3g modem or somthing. Again this same problem happens with multiple devices. Is there some settting im missing.

I have a problem with my WUSB600N in that it periodically stalls my PC for about twenty seconds. It happens randomly, but particularly when I am using YouTube or playing online games. The symptoms are basically that the screen and process lock up. Sometimes I can continue to move the mouse for a short period, but usually that stops moving too. If I'm playing music in the background (iTunes usually or YouTube) then the music keeps going after the lockup, again only for a short period. Usually about twenty seconds or so later, the whole things recovers. I've tried Alt-Tab or Ctrl-Alt-Del while locked, but that does nothing until the system recovers, at which point i find myself with the Task Manager window or back in Windows, so clearly the keystroke has hit the system normally.
PC is running Windows 7 64, with Avast antivirus, Zonealarm firewall, Malwarebytes antimalware. Its an E6750 on a P5N32E Deluxe with 2G RAM.The wireless access point is about five metres away in a straight line through an open doorway. Signal strength is generally excellent (4 of 5 bars is almost invariably showing whenever I look).I've tried one site which suggested using the RALink drivers instead, but I could not even get that to recognise and activate the WUSB600N, so I'm back with the current (as of today) Linksys drivers straight off their site (18-Jan-10 3.0.10.0). Adhoc 11n disabled, 11h enable, Multimedia/Gaming disable, Radio on/off enable. I've tried with all enabled, but still happens. So I'm back with default configuration.

I've had the adapter for a while now, successfully running on XP SP3 with the linksys software. I could see networks, connect to them with WPA security and get an IP address. I recently tried uninstalling the software, then connecting the adapter to install only the drivers and let windows manage it. Since then, I haven't been able to acquire an IP address. It can see the SSID and connect to it, but continually tries to acquire an IP address. I've tried this with different SSIDs at work and home...same result. I've tried uninstalling the driver from device manager, but every time I restart and connect the adapter, windows recognizes the adapter. I probably made matters worse by connecting another adapter to it, in an attempt to work around the problem. That is a USB adapter, WUSB600N. Tried the same thing, but continually tries to acquire an IP address.

I am using the USB network adaptor, Model : WUSB600N version 2. It has worked fine whenever I have needed it. Except now. I received “Your adapter may not be installed properly”” ERROR 211: The network adapter is not installed properly” message last night. Also the Windows pop-up message: “USB device not recognized” message. I removed the adaptor and reinstalled it into another USB port. The same thing happened. I moved it again to a third USB port, I received the same error on all five of my PC’s USB ports. I was not able to access the network at all last night.
I brought in laptop into work today , because the antenna/extension is kept there. I inserted the adaptor and it started right up. After an hour of usage, I disconnected the antenna and the adaptor and reinserting the adaptor without the antenna directly into the USB port. And it still worked fine.I turned the PC off, disconnected everything and went to lunch. When I returned, booted up the PC, and inserted the adaptor and, once again got the error message: “ERROR 211 – The network adapter is not installed properly…. I tried again, this time using the antenna, and it is up and working for now.

I have a PC running Windows XP Home, SP 3. I've got a WUSB600N (old squarish v.1 hardware) attached to this PC via the extender cable and until recently it had been working perfectly. Now, however, something has gone drastically wrong with the setup somehow, because every time I shut down or restart the PC, the adapter refuses to start back up again when the PC is brought back up.The Linksys Network Monitor starts automatically on boot and appears in the systray but the icon is grayed out. If I check the Device Manager listing for the adapter under the system control panel, the adapter is listed there but with a yellow exclamation mark. If I check the properties of the adapter it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". If I remove and reinsert the adapter it simply disappears from the list and then reappears, again with the yellow exclamation mark.
If I uninstall the adapter completely (again, through the Device Manager), it uninstalls with no issues. When I reinsert the adapter, it detects it, says "Found new hardware", then after a moment or two says "A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your new hardware may not work properly".
If I uninstall the adapter AND the Linksys Network Monitor software, then reinstall the software and reinsert the adapter, it is properly detected, completes setup and connects successfully to my wireless network. And then stops working again as soon as I reboot the PC.
I'm using the latest driver and software monitor from the Linksys site, the 1.01 version.I'm considering removing the adapter and software and reinstalling JUST the adapter from the drivers, to see if that works. But it's been working fine till now so I'm at a loss to explain what's going on.

Checking the INF files shows that all the drivers are trying to install as region #0 (36-64 + 149-165) but they are always showing as region #2
