Linksys Wireless Router :: BEFSR41 - Sharing Printer Over Two Networks?

Jul 23, 2011

I have a home office with a network served by a Linksys BEFSR41 wired router. It includes a laptop and HP printer.. This router also connects to my cable modem for internet access. I also have a second wireless linksys E1000 router hardwired to the home office router. It serves my wifes's laptop in  the kitchen and also a ROKU in the den. I tried using the wireless router for the whole house, but the signal was too weak and unreliable. With the current layout, I get a strong signal thoughout the house and my home office uses the wired router.. My problem is that I can't access the printer in my home office.

Am I missing something in setup on the router that causes it to keep loosing connection?

Can't Enable File And Printer Sharing Across Two Networks At Home

Sep 1, 2011

My home network starts from the ISP/Cable modem to a Belkin wireless router.

A WIN XP box connects via ethernet cable in that room. A second WIN XP box connects via wireless in the next room. A Third box Win7 laptop connects via wireless in another room.

All machines have Internet Web browsing working fine, all machines can see each others shared files and printers across the home network.

Here's where I get creative... I added a fourth box WIN XP via ethernet (LAN to LAN) to the Win7 Laptop. It shows as an unidentified network of type Public in Network and Sharing.

Using Shared Internet Connections on the Win7 laptop, the fourth WIN XP now also has Web browsing working just fine across the LAN to the laptop over the wireless and out to the world.

The Win7 Laptop can see shared files and printers on either side of its networks (fourth WIN XP on the LAN side, and first and second WIN XP on the wireless side), and they can see its shared files and printers.

However, the fourth WIN XP on the LAN network won't see the first and second WIN XP on the wireless side. File and printer sharing doesn't see to make the jump across the Laptop Win7 in the middle.

How do I bridge the two networks for file and printer sharing ??

Is it possible to share a usb printer over a network if I use the E3200 or E4200 router as an acces point?  (I already have a router and will use the cisco as an access point only) I checked the documentation for "cisco connect" as best I could but I couldn't figure it out.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 - Printer Sharing On Macs?

Sep 22, 2011

I've had the Airport Extreme router on our Macs at home for years.  Finally upgraded and got the E3200.

With the airports, my wife could print wirelessly to our HP LaserJet, which is still showing as an available printer on the wireless network. However, since removing the Apple router and using the E3200 it won't print.  When you choose to print wirelessly from the application, it says "looking for printer" and eventually fails and says printer is offline.  (which it isn't).

The printer is connected via USB to an external USB hub connected to a Mac.  The printer is not (and has never been) connected directly to a router - not the Apple one, or the new E3200.

On the Mac sharing settings, Printer sharing is turned on, so anyone on our network should be able to print wirelessly.

Does the Linksys require some special permission or setup w/ the CiscoConnect software in order to allow the wireless printing?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 And Sharing A Printer On Subnet?

Apr 2, 2012

My issue is sharing a printer across my main Network and the wireless one, the description of the setting: I have my main Network 10.1.1.0/24 (RV082) and I hooked the wireless router E4200 at an IP 10.1.1.82 and the wireless network is 192.168.1.0/24 I setup a printer/scanner with an IP 192.168.1.72 for sharing on both Networks. Now everyone on 192.168.1.0 network is able to access and print  but none on 10.1.1.0 I did put a static route on the RV082 to direct the requests for the printer to be redirected to 10.1.1.82 but no success.

The E4200 is setup by default out of the box I had just to set the static IP, Gateway and DNS and of course the wireless security key nothing else. the NAT is enabled on the E4200 and RIP is disabled, I tested the connection by disabling NAT and enabling RIP, at which I was able to connect to the printer but the Internet went down for All Wireless users (192.168.1.0 network)

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Link Two Networks WRT54GL - Unable To Access Printer

Sep 18, 2011

I just bought a WRT54GL which is working perfectly. I needed it to extend my home network for my kids (I have not a very fast internet connection and my kids are eating all of it... With the WRT54GL I can choose how much they can have. So my own network has a netgear modem and a netgear wifi access point which is  in this network : 192.168.0.x.

This network is not blocked in any way (just password protected). For my kids network, the WRT54GL gives addresses in this network : 192.168.1.x and is limited in speed. Everything is perfect, I have internet connection on both of my network, There is just the problem that I cannot access my printers, my servers, my computers.... that are on the 192.168.0.x network from 192.168.1.x. Is there a solution ? I already tried to force the WRT54GL to go to 192.168.0.x network but no more connection. Should I "bridge" the two networks ? How can I do it ?

Linksys WRT54G Router / Folder Sharing Between Networks

Mar 8, 2011

The setup...DSL Modem (provides DHCP) LAN port to 24 Port switch. all hard wired PCs are directly attached to 24 port switch. All hard wired PCs can "see" each other.Linksys WRT54G router WAN port is connected to one of the LAN ports of the 24 port switch providing a separate network for my wireless devices.ALL wireless PCs can "see" each other.Problem is that the wired PCs can not "see" the wireless PCs.The wireless PCs can Ping the wired but not the other way around. What I want to do is share folders between the wired and wireless networks.( I know I can turn the router into an AP on the switches LAN, by disabling DHCP in the router, not using its WAN port and hooking one of its LAN ports to the 24 port switch.....BUT... I use the routers access restrictions to limit my kids internet time and without using the WAN port the router does not keep the date and time)It would be like doing file sharing from the internet to a private LAN but without the security concerns!

Linksys Wireless Router :: Replacing BEFSR41 With WRT54G / Can't Connect To 192.168.1.1

Jan 2, 2012

I am trying to replaced our wired router (BEFSR41) with a wireless router (WRT54G V5) that we have floating around.  When connected through the wireless router, I am unable to access 192.168.1.1.  I went to the command prompt and The IP Address and the Default gateway are both blank.  I even tried to manually set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 but I was still unable to connect.  Currently, I am connected directly to the modem so that I may use the internet for troubleshooting.  I've tried releasing and renewing the ip, but it will not renew.

Linksys Wireless Router :: BEFSR41 Removing 2nd Router From Home Network

Nov 12, 2011

My home computer accesses the Internet through an ADSL modem and a phone line. I added a wired router (Linksys BEFSR41).I've since bought a laptop computer, an iPhone4 and a wireless router (Linksys WRT160N).Again, on the advice of a friend, I ADDED the wireless router, so now have two routers connected. The devices are connected as follows:

-Wall jack to ADSL modem
-ADSL modem to BEFSR41
-BEFSR41 to WRT160N
-WRT160N to desktop computer.

As I understand Linksys routers, the default IP address for ALL Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1.Both the iPhone4 and the laptop are unable to connect to the wireless router.I'm assuming the two routers are conflicting with each other, so I thought I would remove the wired router..Can I change the IP address of the BEFSR41 router from 192.168.1.2?

Would this resolve the conflict between the two routers and allow the wireless devices to "see" the wireless router? What's the correct procedure for removing the BEFSR41 router from the system?

Linksys BEFSR41 Router Disconnects On Boot?

Jan 20, 2011

I have a 2 computers connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router which is connected to a Verizon Westell DSL/Cable modem. From time to time the Ethernet link between the modem and the router spontaneously disconnects. I can reconnect the link by going to the setup menu on the router with a browser @ 192.168.1.1 Sometimes I have to do an ipconfig/release and renew to fix the link. Sometimes I have to power cycle the PC and the modem and the router.Currently this disconnect problem has gotten much worse. It occurs about every 15-20 minutes while I'm connected to the net. It also occurs when either computer is booted or turned off (I see the link light on both the modem and the router flash red for a moment).

Linksys BEFSR41 - Xp Computer Won't See Router Or Vista Pc

Apr 21, 2011

I recently decided to set up my xp pc again in my bedroom. Set up everything and it wont connect to the router or see my other pc. The router and PC don't seem to see it either. So far I've made sure the Workgroup's are named the same. I've tried allowing it to obtain it's own IP as well as setting a manual default setting. When I allow it to obtain it's own IP I get a limited connectivity error. If I set default settings that error goes away but I still can't get online still or see the rest of the network. It will only ping itself. Pinging yahoo.com, my other PC or other ip addresses time out. Also there are no device errors in device manager. Everything says it's operating correctly. I've tried resetting default settings on the router. I've unplugged and replugged in everything, powering on modem/router/pc. Nothing seems to work.

The problem computer is an AMD Athlon (64) 3500+ 2.2ghz with 1g ram running Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 service pack 3. The Router is a Linksys BEFSR41. The Ipconfig /all for it is below:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

So I'm pretty sure its not my DSL modem or connection. All the lights come up on the Linksys as they should (power, internet and the Ethernet) but for some reason it seems the internet not getting trought the router. When its connected and I pull up my internet browser I type 192.168.1.1 and it takes me to the linksys config site. Without the router in the same address go to the Westell site as thats my DSL modem. Everything looks fine on the config site. All the correct IP, MAC, DNS address are there and still no internet access on any of my device.

Linksys Wired Router :: Replacing A BEFSR41 V2?

Feb 20, 2011

Comcast upgraded me to a 30 Mbps speed, and my trusty old BEFSR41 v2 doesn't cut it.    Cisco promotes wireless routers with a 1 Gbps ethernet, I would rather have a wired router, and use a WAP that I can unplug when I am not using it, since, for now, I only connect my work notebook wirelessly.    Most wireless routers also generate a lot more heat than a wired one does, and I don't need any more heat in my Houston home.A new BEFSR41 v4.3 is only 10/100 Mbps.  There doesn't seem to be any 1 Gbps wired routers for home use.  Will a new BEFSR41 give me 100% of the cable Dociss 3.0 speed, or would I need to get a 1 Gbps router to get the fastest throughput?  Or do I  only need to upgrade when the cable speed increases closer to 100 Gbps?If a 1 Gbps router is better, are there any simple business wired routers you could recommend?
