Linksys Wireless Router :: Replacing BEFSR41 With WRT54G / Can't Connect To 192.168.1.1

I am trying to replaced our wired router (BEFSR41) with a wireless router (WRT54G V5) that we have floating around. Â When connected through the wireless router, I am unable to access 192.168.1.1. Â I went to the command prompt and The IP Address and the Default gateway are both blank. Â I even tried to manually set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 but I was still unable to connect. Â Currently, I am connected directly to the modem so that I may use the internet for troubleshooting. Â I've tried releasing and renewing the ip, but it will not renew.

Comcast upgraded me to a 30 Mbps speed, and my trusty old BEFSR41 v2 doesn't cut it.   Cisco promotes wireless routers with a 1 Gbps ethernet, I would rather have a wired router, and use a WAP that I can unplug when I am not using it, since, for now, I only connect my work notebook wirelessly.   Most wireless routers also generate a lot more heat than a wired one does, and I don't need any more heat in my Houston home.A new BEFSR41 v4.3 is only 10/100 Mbps. There doesn't seem to be any 1 Gbps wired routers for home use.  Will a new BEFSR41 give me 100% of the cable Dociss 3.0 speed, or would I need to get a 1 Gbps router to get the fastest throughput? Or do I only need to upgrade when the cable speed increases closer to 100 Gbps?If a 1 Gbps router is better, are there any simple business wired routers you could recommend?

My cable modem works fine when not running through the router. However, when running through the router, the internet won't work.I tried unplugging the power and plugging it back in, as well as holding down the reset button for 30 seconds, but nothing worked.

I have 2 PCs and am using a Linksys befsr41 router.The first PC connects fine. The 2nd PC does not find a connection. BTW, when I connect my laptop to the 2nd port, it sees the connection immediately - the lights flash on the ethernet connection. No lights on the 2nd desktop PC.

I upgraded the firmware on my BEFS41 v4.3 to the Ver.2.00.4 Build 8, off the cisco website. After I received the successfully upgraded message, I could no longer connect to the internet, nor could I connect to the router's configuration page. I tried to do a few hard resets and connecting it to other computers to see any other computers could connect to it, no luck. I tried connecting one computer just to the router, without the internet plugged in, and tried to ping 192.168.1.1 but I received a "transmit failed, error code 1231." Is there anyway I can access this and change the firmware, or am I screwed?

I'm on a Mac running OSX.  Qwest (my ISP) recently swapped my DSL modem for an Actiontec Q1000 combo modem/router.  The Q1000 firewall is not nearly as configurable as my Linksys BEFSR41 (v3) router.  I'd like to use the Q1000 just as a modem and use my Linksys as my router so I can access it's superior firewall configuration.

How do I configure the 2 items. Â The Q1000 uses 192.168.0.1 as it's web address. Â The Linksys uses 192.168.1.1. Â I have 2 Macs on my network, an iMac (OS 10.5.8) and a G4 (10.3.9).

Besides web browsing & email, I also have a torrent client I use (Azureus).

I have a BEFSR41 (wired) router. On the LAN side, I'm using all static IPs, and have the local DHCP server turned off. On the WAN side, I'm using DHCP. When I plug my laptop (which runs Windows 7, and has a static IP set up) into the router, sometimes I can't connect to any hosts on the WAN side, even though other machines on the LAN side can connect to hosts outside. If I run Wireshark, I see the following happening over and over. [code] When this occurs, the laptop can nevertheless connect to the embedded web server running on the router, and, there, I can tell the router to release and renew its WAN-side DHCP lease.Â

I have been having some issues connecting my PC to my XBox360 using the wired approach, it seems to be massively temperamental to a point i decided to not connect the XBox via my router and instead put it straight into my spare network port on my PC. The basic jist of mynetwork confirguration is something like this: Internet cable > Virgin Media 256 Modem > Linksys BEFSR41 Router > PC. I had no issues with this setup, but as soon as i wanted to add my XBox into the mix, things got tricky. I plugged the network cable from my Xbox originally into one of the ports on my router and then went through the settings on both my Xbox and router. Again, i had absolutely no confidence in doing this myself since i don't mess with it, but after reading guides i finally got it sorted. Well, partly sorted. I was able to connect to my Xbox Live, however i was unable to connect to my Xbox to my PC (To stream files onto the Xbox). This was what i wanted to do, i didn't really want to use the Live anyway. So i went off to work again. In the end nothing was working, so i opted to connect my Xbox directly into my PC - So it was no longer connected through my router. I could SEE my PC on my Xbox, but i was unable to connect to it to stream anything. I then opted to disconnect my router (For no other reason than to rule it out) - Sure enough, the very second i disconnected the router, i was able to instantly connect to my PC and was streaming straight away. Once i was streaming, i was able to reconnect my router and that was that. But if i turned off my Xbox i would need to also turn off my router the next time i wanted to stream. How can i fix this so i don't have to continually turn off my router, is there a setting somewhere in the options on my router which can allow me to connect to my Xbox? I have a BEFSR41 v2.1 wired router which was put aside when replaced with a wireless router. Today I wanted to hook it up and use it again, however my computer was not automatically assigned a connection, and I didn't remember how I last had it set up, so I simply reset the router and tried again.

Since the reset, I have not been able to get a connection to the router from any computer using any port or any cable. The LED lights for ports 1-4 do not light up, and setting a static IP address still does not permit me to connect or even ping the router.

The LEDs light up as normal and go through the patterns during the boot-up process. Once that is finished, all LEDs are off apart from the power light (which is steady). If I plug in the modem to the WAN port, the links light is solid and the Act LED blinks. A loopback connection between ports cause the LEDs to light up fine (tried all port combinations).

If I unplug the power, hold the reset button 15 seconds, then power it back on, plug a connection in from my secondary router to the WAN port, the router shows up in the Active Clients list, but I cannot connect to the IP listed, even if manually associating the IP with the MAC address listed..

Because of all this, I can't re-flash the firmware even using the tftp method, since it fails to connect to the IP address in the first place.

 - 30/30/30 reset (multiple times)
 - manually setting static IP 192.168.1.100 with gateway 192.168.1.1
 - manually associating the ip 192.168.1.1 with the mac address of the router with netsh

I have a few devices at my home that connect wirelessly to the internet via wrt54g. I want to connect to the internet via VPN. I would like to find out if it is possible to connect WRT54G router to the VPN via PPTP or L2TP? The VPN company provided me with PPTP and L2TP credentials. I can access vpn via OpenVPN on computers but I would like my TV connect to the internet also via VPN.

I have a WRT54G router and although the local connection works the wireless does not. I have tried unpluging the router and replugging, holding the reset button for 30 seconds powering off 30 seconds and then plugging back it for 30 seconds. The ipconfig /all is below.

My problem is that whenever 2 devices have joined the wireless network, I will not be able to do so despite placing the laptop or iPhone right next to the router, hence getting excellent signal strength. Or, if I am already connected to the network, I get knocked out repeatedly. I don't think it is a hardware or software issue because I'm still able to connect and get a very stable connection after someone leaves the wireless network.This is getting frustrating and I have tried all ways and means to resolve this but to no avail. Is this about some setting that I can tweak, e.g. to allow more users onto the network? But this has already been configured to '50'!

I could not log into any of the 4 FTP sites that I normally update without immediately getting disconnected. The message I am getting from the servers is "Port command failed, error loading directory - disconnected". To save some time and posts, here are the facts....1.) It is definately not my DSL modem. When I connect directly with the modem, without a router, I can connect to FTP fine2.) I have already done a /flushdns in IPconfig.3.) I have already done the typical power off/power on/reboot procedure numerous times.4.) I have already tried PASV mode, and tried turning PASV mode off as well.5.) My login information is correct, and I have problems on multiple sites.6.) This problem has been reported before by other users of WRT54G, but the other forums I see have no solution to the problem.7.) I have already tried using other PC's and different FTP clients on my home network. No matter which PC or laptop I use behind the router firewall, I can't maintain FTP connection. 8.) I have never had to open ports to be able to connect to FTP, since I am the one doing the request. I did also try opening ports 20 and 21. 9.) XP firewall is disabled. 10.) I have tried both ethernet ports on my PC. But then again, that is irrelevant because none of my other PC's which connect wirelessly, can connect either.

I my parents have a WRT54G linksys router, they have a DSL modem. Everything was working fine with the wireless network until one random day POOF! the wireless no longer would connect on laptops. However, the internet is working just fine with the computer that is hardwired up throught the router. Since this is working it lets me know that the router is working fine and routing the connection through hardwire. Hard wired works on laptops but all laptops are unable to join the network and most of the time it will not show up in the list of available networks.Even my iphone wont connect saying unable to join network. We bought a brand new linksys router and same problem. I then took his old router to my house and hooked it up...and WOW it works as it should all devices can connect...even my iphone.

i have a LINKSYS  WRT54G router .. i bought an apple ipod touch recently  and i am unable to connect it to my wifi network. My ipod detects the wifi network but when i select it , it asks for password. now i dont know which password is this bcoz everytime i poer on my computer or laptop i never type a password b4 accessing internet.. it is auto connected. i know the admin password for my router but that is denied by ipod to connect to internet. Is there any other password we have to give for connecting deveices through LINKSYS or some changes i need to do in my connection ?

I am replacing a WRH54G with a WRT54G. Â First I unplugged everything and waited 5 minutes. Then I plugged my ethernet cord from the DSL modem into the WRT54G. Then I plugged in the DSL modem. I waited for the lights to stop blinking. Then I plugged in the WRT54G and waited for LEDs to show connection. Then I plugged the ethernet cord from the WRT54G to the computer. Then I turned on the computer. I was able to access the Interface for the WRT54G but I was not able to connect to the internet. I tried power cycling multiple times both the DSL modem and the WRT54G. I was unable to access the internet. Finally I plugged the WRH54G back in and everything worked fine. why the old WRH54G can connect to the internet and the WRT54G cannot?

 I have a new android, MyTouch Q, through T-mobile.  The phone says it is connected and the wireless icon appears, but I can't access any data or websites.  I've done a hard reset, unplugged both the router and the modem for several minutes, called the phone manufacturer (LG), the carrier (t-mobile), and the internet provider (Cox cable).

My router used to work. I updated the firmware to 4.21. xx and after that I can't connect to internet.When I connect directly to modem, I can go to the internet . I power recycled etc but when I connect to the router, it says limited connectivity. It shows autoconfigurtion ip:169.254.251.135. I don't know why this is so.I don't have the setup cd disk but I read the users' guide and it seems that I really don;t need the cd. But no matter what I do , I can't get to 192.168.1.1 .

I have a wrt54g v5 router. I cannot connect to the internet through my router. I called the cable company and they told me that the router probably reset from a power outtage and reconnect. i power cycled, i tried to log onto the router via 192.168.1.1 but the connections were spanish to me.

Checked cable router (brighthouse), working. Router (all lights on but network traffic flashing indicates one way traffic). So I go to my wife's computer. It too has no connection. I open my laptop to connect to the wireless, IT WORKS! Pull power on Cable Modem and Router, wait 60 secs, power up Cable Modem and then power up Router (I know it wasn't nec to do modem but I wanted a clean start). Wireless is still working, no LAN. I can't even connect 192.168.1.1. Linksys software says it can't detect the modem. Reset time, hit the magic button in the back and sure enough everything stops working (which I figured). Still can't connect to it, and now I've lost wireless. I connect computer directly to Cable Modem and type this message. Seems to me that Router has failed.

All networking had been working great until recent power failure. Then laptops failed to connect, found my router WRT54G had become insecure. I open the router using "admin", reset Wireless Security and reset my password. Wireless laptops, wireless camera now works fine but now iPhone will not connect? I have double checked the password, it is the same as the router. Is there something else in the router that needs changing for the iPhone connection?

Now, the computer sees the router but it won't connect to the internet. I have other computers that connect fine, so I thought it was the wireless adapter in my computer. However, I went to someone else's house and connected perfectly.

Im running a linksys wireless router, WRT54G V6 with firmware 1.02.8. It worked before I moved after I moved I can't connect via wireless. hard line works. i've tried resting to factor, i've tried not using ses, not using custom ssid. I've rest it like 5 times retarted the computers. I've hit the little cisco systems button on the front, this makes it work for a few minutes. When I hit the button it will go out then come back on white, and blink around 1-2 blinks per second, it will do this for maybe 1-2min. then stops and changes back to orange. and i get nothing from it. the WLAN light is on like it's working but I cannot detect it with my desktop or laptop, can i can detect 3 other routers around me. I've tried pretty much everything i know to do, tried flashing it, updating, about the only option i have left is throwing it out the window.

I had a Linksys WRT54G Router with a Netgear GS116 Switch and everything worked great. Upgraded to a new Linksys E4200 Router for faster wiress, default settings, and it won't connect to my switch, here is the breakdown...- No LED's light up when I plug the Switch into the E4200 LAN ports via patch cable (Switch has auto uplink so no crossover needed)- E4200 Ports work fine when I plug devices directly into them, LED's light up and everything.- Switch works fine when connected to the WRT54G, LED's on both devices light up when connected to eachother.- Tried different ports, different patch cables, even tried setting E4200 to bridge mode to just see if I could get the LED's to light up.
