Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Or E4200 USB Printer Sharing Possible

Oct 10, 2011

Is it possible to share a usb printer over a network if I use the E3200 or E4200 router as an acces point?  (I already have a router and will use the cisco as an access point only) I checked the documentation for "cisco connect" as best I could but I couldn't figure it out.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 - Printer Sharing On Macs?

Sep 22, 2011

I've had the Airport Extreme router on our Macs at home for years.  Finally upgraded and got the E3200.

With the airports, my wife could print wirelessly to our HP LaserJet, which is still showing as an available printer on the wireless network. However, since removing the Apple router and using the E3200 it won't print.  When you choose to print wirelessly from the application, it says "looking for printer" and eventually fails and says printer is offline.  (which it isn't).

The printer is connected via USB to an external USB hub connected to a Mac.  The printer is not (and has never been) connected directly to a router - not the Apple one, or the new E3200.

On the Mac sharing settings, Printer sharing is turned on, so anyone on our network should be able to print wirelessly.

Does the Linksys require some special permission or setup w/ the CiscoConnect software in order to allow the wireless printing?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 And Sharing A Printer On Subnet?

Apr 2, 2012

My issue is sharing a printer across my main Network and the wireless one, the description of the setting: I have my main Network 10.1.1.0/24 (RV082) and I hooked the wireless router E4200 at an IP 10.1.1.82 and the wireless network is 192.168.1.0/24 I setup a printer/scanner with an IP 192.168.1.72 for sharing on both Networks. Now everyone on 192.168.1.0 network is able to access and print  but none on 10.1.1.0 I did put a static route on the RV082 to direct the requests for the printer to be redirected to 10.1.1.82 but no success.

The E4200 is setup by default out of the box I had just to set the static IP, Gateway and DNS and of course the wireless security key nothing else. the NAT is enabled on the E4200 and RIP is disabled, I tested the connection by disabling NAT and enabling RIP, at which I was able to connect to the printer but the Internet went down for All Wireless users (192.168.1.0 network)

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 USB Drive Not Sharing With PS3?

Feb 3, 2012

Im having trouble with my E3200.  The router is working fine in all areas, with the exception that I cannot get my PS3 to detect the shared USB drive that is connected to the router.  The drive is detected /mapped on the connected Windows desktop, but files/folder/drive is not appearing on PS3.  The PS3 is connecting successfully to the router, as I have a strong internet connection.  I believed that the E3200 would be able to share the USB drive with my PS3 for media file streaming... Or have I not done something correctly in the settings?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting USB Printer To E3200?

Apr 1, 2012

I managed to connect my USB printer (and tested ok) through the E3200 router using the Cisco Connect programme on Windows 7.  I note that there was an option for a USB Printer connection in the set-up screen.

When I tried it on the Mac using Mac OSX 10.7.3 and Cisco Connect Ver 1.4, I noted that there was no option for a USB Printer connection.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Or E4200 - Which One Is Better

Jul 6, 2011

I have a 6 year old wrt54g that is working fine but old. I want to upgrade and will go with the 3200 or 4200.  I really don't need the extra features on the 4200 since everything I have is hardwired (directly to two laptops and to two switches in other parts of the house for tv and printer).  I want wireless for times when we move a laptop but it wouldn't be all the time, and we won't (for now) use the media options. The difference in price between the 3200 and 4200 is less than $25 so costs is NOT a factor in deciding. So should I just purchase the 4200 since price is not a factor or go with 3200; I want the most stable of the two and will never need the extra wireless features in the 4200.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 - Sharing Files Over Network Stopped Working

Sep 23, 2012

I tried searching google and Cisco Home Community for this answer, but no luck. Maybe I didn't phrase my search correctly. I have an external drive connected to a mac mini which is shared on the network. When transferring folders to or from that external drive, our internet connection stops working until the transfer finishes, then comes back up. I've tested this in a variety of ways. Any transfer of data from shared folders in any combination of devices causes internet to stop working both on wired and wireless devices until the transfer is done, then they all work again. Router firmware: 1.0.03.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 / E3200 Or E2500 Better For Home Access Point?

Jan 18, 2012

I am looking form accesspoint for home network. I do not need router and usb functionality, I have this already in my linux server. I need only wifi accesspoint with 2 bands and 300Mbps bandwith. Is there a big difference between E4200 or E3200 or E2500? I know that E4200 supports 450Mbps, but I am not planning to buy new devices which could go faster than 300Mbps. Beside of technical parameters in technical specyfication is there a difference in wifi bandwith or tranmission between wifi and cable network?

I also have a second wireless linksys E1000 router hardwired to the home office router. It serves my wifes's laptop in  the kitchen and also a ROKU in the den. I tried using the wireless router for the whole house, but the signal was too weak and unreliable. With the current layout, I get a strong signal thoughout the house and my home office uses the wired router.. My problem is that I can't access the printer in my home office.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Sharing Media Across Network Via USB

Mar 10, 2012

I have been using the e4200 for about a week.  So far, so good!  However, a primary reason I purch it was the ability to share via USB across my network (Files and such).  Read the approved USB drives that r compatible and although my specfic drive was not listed (WD, my Passport) I connected it to the e4200 and set a folder called "movies"to share.  In this folder I have both bluray rips (25-32GB) and standard rips (5gb or less).  Regardless of source, the content was not playable.  It buffered like crazy.  So, is it as simple as using an approved USB drive and I will be able to share appropriately?

The same folder plays great when connected directly to one of my media streamers USB drive, so don't think the drive/source is bad.

When I start iTunes I am able to access Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad. If I don't connect right away I will lose this capability. Also, the connection is lost after a seeminingly random amount of time. Also, when if I using the iPhone to listen to music and I pick up my iPad and access the wireless network, the phone gets kicked off Home Sharing. The only way to remedy the situation is to re-start iTunes on my computer. I've been messing around with every setting.

However I have heard reports that this might facility might be enabled in the spring.

I have also heard something about `virtual usb` but I don`t know whether this has anything to do with it.

The latest Firmware for the E4200 states that there is now the ability to attach a printer to the USB port of the router. It's possible that the MAC Firmware was not given the ability to add a USB printer like the PC Firmware upgrade.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Can't Connect E4200 To Brother MFC-J615W Printer

Apr 2, 2013

I have had the E4200 for a while with a Brother MFC-J615W printer.  I have been having problems keeping the connection between my laptop(HP) and the printer ever since I switched to this router.  The only thing that works is completely reinstalling the driver, and then it is touchy when searching the network for the printer.  The port and IP address for my printer match, and when I tried pinging my printer, I do not have any success.  My laptop registers the printer as offline, as does the router when I go into the devices on the router(via mylocalrouter).  To spot check the issue, I have switched the router back to my old one(Belkin) and the printer works flawlessly.  I have always been able to connect the printer to the network without any problems, but my laptop and router dont recognize it.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 USB Printer Requires Cisco Connect Software?

Jul 28, 2011

I was excited to learn that USB printer support was added to the E4200. I'm disappointed to find that the USB printer option that is available in firmware version 1.0.02 requires Cisco Connect software. There is no version of Cisco Connect for Linux. I was hoping that this would allow the printer to be shared among my Win7 desktop, Win7 laptop, and my Linux desktop running Ubuntu 10.10. No such luck. WIth the printer connected to the router I can print with any one computer. My previous configuration had the printer connected to my WIn7 desktop so that desktop had to be turned-on to print. The bottom line is that I still can't print from the Linux box without turning on the desktop machine. Cisco please provide a way to connect to the printer without using the Connect software! Or provide a java version that can be run on any OS.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Wireless Printer Won't Work?

May 8, 2012

I have a E4200 router and I was using it with a 1st generation MacBook Air for internet and also had my Samsung laser printer hooked up (USB) for wireless printing. It worked perfectly. Now I have upgraded to a new MacBook Air. The internet connection works fine, but printing won't work. Same printer. Same connections.

Do I need to refresh/reboot something? My new Mac has the printer driver. I get a message "printer if offline" "printer is not connected" -I feel like the router now does not recognize the new Mac's command to print. The older macbook air still works and prints wirelessly. The new one does not.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Cannot Print Via Hp Wireless Printer

I have an HP laser printer (network printer) plugged into one of the ethernet ports of the E4200.  I am able to print and communicate with the printer (via the built-in web interface) for the first few hours after the printer is powered on.  After a day or so, however, (when the printer has gone into sleep/power-save mode) I can no longer print or attach to it - it is seen as being offline.  The only way around this is to power the printer off and on again.I never had this problem with the E3000 or the (non-Cisco) router before that.  I do not see any settings that would cause this to happen.

HP 1022NW Wireless Printer Will Not Connect To Cisco E4200 Router

Jun 13, 2011

I recently bought a new Windows 7 system and a Cisco E4200 router. Previously, I had an old Linksys WRT54GS router with an HP 1022NW connected to the network. The HP printer has worked flawlessly all these years and did not even hiccup when Windows 7 came into play. But as soon as I changed out my router, the trouble started. I cannot for the life of me get these two devices to connect. Is the HP1022NW even compatible with the E4200 router when using wireless connections? I know you are supposed to match the settings, but the encryption types are different For example, the default router settings are mixed WPA/WPA2. Previously I had WPA-PSK, which is not an option on this new router. I have followed every instruction I can find in manuals and online to get the wireless connection working, but it either fails the installation, or it latches onto my neighbor's wireless signal, which is not nearly as strong as mine. I believe he has his router set to WEP, which seems to point to the encryption question above. Short of connecting this as a hard wired printer, is there any chance I can get this to work? I have tried resetting it to factory conditions and even that does not work.
