Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - .77 Mbps Download And .17 Mbps Upload Speed
Mar 11, 2013I just ran some speedtests om my PC on the advice of my isp to see if my Linksys WRT54G router might be bad. As a result, I found that the router might not be entirely bad, but it might not be entirely good, either. I got .77 Mbps dowload and .17 Mbps upload on the first speedtest. I got .43 Mbps download on the second speedtest and the speed test hung hear the end. When I connected an IMac to the cable modem with an ethernet cable, the IMac ran strong. So the tech thought I should get a new router.
But wait a minute, isn't there a network adapter in the PC that the router talks to? Might the adapter be the problem, not the router? So I speedtested the wireless network to the IMac. That speedtest was fine, tiptop, like the ethernet direct connection test noted above. Did that tell me that the problem is in my PC network adapter, not the router? Then, I retested (speedtested) the connection on the PC and it was fine...excellent. Good up and down speeds, no hangs.Then, I checked the PC adapter (a Belkin). I saw three adapters on Device Manager, including the Belkin. I downloaded new drivers for the adapters (except for the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Minipoty Adapter - because it got a warning that the download software wasn't signed and might harm my computer).

I am currently getting a miserly 54 mbs wireless and 100 mbs on the wire (connected with cat6 all the way)... Anything I should try to get close to advertized speeds?

Mar 16, 2011I currently own a LinkSys-WRT54GL 802.11a/b/g wireless router, and my ISP is Comcast Cable providing me with 15 Mbps (that's bits per second, I believe) download speed. I am wondering if there is any benefit with using an 802.11n wireless router to access the Internet? The maximum theoretical speed of the WRT54GL router is 54 Mbps (802.11g), which is faster than the 15 Mbps provided by my ISP.
I know that 802.11n has a max bandwidth of 300 Mbps, and it would work for intra- house transfers, such as streaming video from one computer to another.
But is there any benefit to 802.11n for Internet activity, such as web browsing, gaming, and streaming video from Netflix.

Dual Band- 2,4 and 5 GHz
2,4 in 20MHz only - 5 GHz in 40 MHz only
2,4 Mixed - 5 Ghz only N
WPA2 personal in both
Channel - automatic (both)
I have checked that the 5 Ghz network can only use 4 channels: 36, 40, 44, 48. Where are the channels up to 100 (or more)? How to get all the power of the router?

Jul 13, 2011Why my internet was so slow .90mbps. They got on my mac and changed the Ethernet setting to "manually" instead of "Automatic", then changed the speed to 10mbps instead of "autoselect". Now the internet is going at the 10mbps im supposed to be getting, but when i plug it into my router (wall>router>laptop) i get the .90mbps again. So do i how do i change the same setting on the router?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Downlink Speed Limited To 6 Mbps
Dec 30, 2011I posted this in the wired forum, because it's the wired speed that is limited, but it looks like there's more E4200 expertise over here, so here it is again:
I have Hotwire fiber service and the plan is supposed to provide 20 megabit downlink speeds.
I just bought a Linksys/Cisco E4200 to replace an old Dell TrueMobile 2300 from 2004. With that router I got the full advertised downlink speed.
Now, when I run a speed test with the E4200 in place, the downlink speed is only 5168 kbps or so. Watching the speed test meters, I see the data arriving in bursts, every few seconds a whole lot of it gets through, then for a second or two nothing. It's pretty regular.
But, if I run a speed test with the ONT cable plugged right into a laptop, I see 19001 kbps - close enough to 20. This is the same cable that plugs into the back of the router.
With E4200 in place Direct into laptop what I can check or configure in the E4200 to change this behavior?

Aug 11, 2011I purchased a new router - cisco e1000. Currently, i have 2 laptops wirelessly connected to this router. When i do a broadband speed test, the speed drops down significantly to 8MBPS while if i connect it to the cable modem directly (wired) i.e., without router, i'm getting 15 MBPS download speed. I did a couple of times this speed check and the results are same. I tried changing the advanced settings in the router (which was specified in one of the post in this forum) but no luck. Is it that i need to buy e4200 to match the wired speed of 15 MBPS or what other things I can do to get the same speed of my cable modem (provided by my ISP)?

Jan 20, 2011I have a laptop with an Intel Centrino 6300 Ultimate-N wireless card. With the previous firmware I was able to reach 300mbps while on the 5GHz band. Since I updated my E3000 to the latest firmware (1.0.04) I can only reach speeds of 144mbps. I have done a factory reset on the router and stll get the same result. Is there any way I can get it to reach 300mbps again with the current firmware?
Also, yes I have uninstalled / updated the driver software for my wireless card. I have also changed the appropriate settings for the 5GHz band. (40MHz channel width, using WPA2 encryption)

Dec 8, 2012I've had this router for about 3 weeks. It's only 20 feet from the computer, but my computer on 2 or 3 separate days had trouble staying connected. The signal dropped to 5 Mbps and had a little yellow symbol that said no internet access and when I looked at the properties it said, "limited or no connectivity." I got impatient and purchased a 75 ft Ethernet cable online with plans to possibly return the router as I don't really need wireless anyways and since I spent $100 on this router I expect it to work at 20 ft distance.
For the last few days it has remained at 54 Mbps or more sometimes all the way up to 108 mbps. But now since it got pretty low a few times I don't trust it enough so I might return it anyways.IPv6 connectivity says no network access. This might be because when it asked for administrator password to recognize it as a trusted home network I closed it instead of putting in the password.

Oct 9, 2012I just "upgraded" from an E1000 to an E1200 wireless router. I had good performance with the E1000, and I only upgraded to the E1200 because it was on sale.My only complaint with the E1200 is the slower download speed on my desktop PC that is connected directly to the router. My normal download speed on the desktop PC was 25 Mbps with the E1000 model. After I disabled the WMM on the E1200 as others suggested, the download speed on the desktop machine immediately increased from 5 Mbps up to 15 Mbps. Any other suggestions to get the download speed up to 25 Mbps before I switch back to my E1000? The E1200 router is connected to my Arris TM602G modem. Both modem and router were reset during the installation process. I setup parental controls for a couple of iPods and configured Open DNS, but other than that, the router is using default settings. All wireless devices in the house seem to be performing fine with the E1200.

Aug 16, 2012I've recently subscribed to a 100Mbps fibre broadband service with the bundled Huawei EchoLife HG8240 ONT modem and speed-tested it with an achievable speed of almost 100Mbps (uplink and downlink) on my desktop PC.However, when I connect my new Cisco Linksys E1200 Wireless-N Router to it, I noticed the speed dropped by almost half (about 50Mbps both ways) when I conduct a similar speedtest .
note that I'm using wired cable and there's only 1 single PC connected to it and it is not shared. This includes upgrading the firmware to the latest version, disabling the IPV6 setting and configuring QOS.My current hardware/ firmware version is as follows:

Disable the E3200 DHCP server2. Change E3200ip address from 192.168.1.1 to something else3. Disable the firewall4.Make wireless settings5. Connect it lan port to lan port with primaryrouter.The problem I am having is that after I finish step 2 the routerreboots with the browser trying to access it at the new ip address. But thebrowser will not connect.I am doing this on a laptop that is disconnected from my network while I am working on the E3200. It is connected byan ethernet cable to an E3200 lan port. I also tried it wireless with the same result. Browser will not connect at any ip address except 192.168.1.1 and then only after I factory reset the beast to regain the 192.168.1.1 ip address

Sep 13, 2011I just bought a refurbished E2000 wireless-n router with 1 Gb LAN ports (from Cisco online).This router is meant to replace my Netgear wireless-n router that only have 100 Mb LAN ports.I have 10 devices in my home network, 6 of them are using wireless (1 'g' and 5 'n') and 4 are interconnected with cat5e cables (trough the router).The devices have some different operating systems and their network adapters are from different brands.When I set up the Netgear router I didn't have to adjust anything for the wireless network to work fine.All wireless-n devices worked at 150 Mbps (sometimes going down shortly to 130 Mbps).The wireless-g device worked at 54 Mbps.For the last 2 days I've been trying to set up the E2000 to achieve a wireless-n speed higher then 72 Mpbs... without success.I tried all the suggestions that I found in the Cisco Knowledge Base.
- Upgrading the firmware to the latest version
- Trying different channels and channel widths
- Different wireless security methods and many others.
Also trying different settings on the different devices doesn't work.Changing the distance between router and devices as well as changing the location of the router don't affect the results.Switching on only 1 device at a time doesn't change anything either.It looks like the E2000 is set to not transmit on a higher speed than 72 Mbps, when it's actually supposed to achieve a wireless-n speed of up to 300 Mbps. I would be lucky if I get the half of it, but not if it's only one fourth.

My only solution so far is to reboot the router. I realize that the client lease time is set to 1 day by default but isn't it supposed to ask the modem for another day of life when this happens?

Jul 6, 2011I have a 6 year old wrt54g that is working fine but old. I want to upgrade and will go with the 3200 or 4200. I really don't need the extra features on the 4200 since everything I have is hardwired (directly to two laptops and to two switches in other parts of the house for tv and printer). I want wireless for times when we move a laptop but it wouldn't be all the time, and we won't (for now) use the media options. The difference in price between the 3200 and 4200 is less than $25 so costs is NOT a factor in deciding.So should I just purchase the 4200 since price is not a factor or go with 3200; I want the most stable of the two and will never need the extra wireless features in the 4200.

Jan 11, 2012I used to have a Belkin router which was losing connectivity throughout the day for a few short moments. After looking at the logs it appears it was issueing a DHCP release randomy which explained the fault. Since it was old router I decided to replace it with a E3200. This worked fine for a few days but then I started to see similar symptions. So currently I am trying to figure out if it's the same issue as before. I tried looking for a log on the router to see if it was also losing/releasing the WAN IP, but apparently the router doesn't log it. I spoke to a tech rep on chat, but I don't think they understand what I was talking about (how frustrating). I even tried to explain it another way that if I hit the 'Release IP address' button and then hit the "Renew IP Adresss' button does this activity get logged.
Where can I find a log to see DHCP activity (on the WAN interface)? There is a DHCP log which shows all the LAN activity but this is not what I need for this issue. I find it hard to believe a mature vendor like Linksys doesn't log this activity?
Linksys Wireless Router :: 2 E3200 With The Same SSID?
Apr 19, 2012House has 2 floors. I want to install 2 E3200, one on each floor, but both with the same SSID/Password, etc. so internet connection/streaming throughout the floor is seamless.
Both floors have network wall sockets ready and they all lead to the same modem/router so all devices plugged lead to the same network.
PS. both E3200 have been update to Firmware Version: 1.0.03

Aug 28, 2012I have bought Linksys E3200 less than month ago.I have setup it, connected HD (WD My Book 1TB) through USB and it work good, without any problem.Than week ago, I turned off the router, because of my vacation. Yesterday, I came back, turned on the router. WiFi was working good, cable connection too. But there was no connection to HD. I had checked information about HD on admin page, router understood that it is HD, but not provided share access to folder, also, there was no button, to setup it.I disconnected HD, tried to connect it using the Cisco Connect, it provided mistake with USB connection to HD and than with HTTP connection to router. I disconnected HD, tried to connect it manually: connect HD -> go to admin page -> refresh to show HD -> admin page freeze... -> reboot of router manually.
There was a lot of tries to connect HD, but all was failed.I connect HD to computer, it works successfully.I checked connection to router through USB, using my card reader and SD flash card, it works successfully.Information about HW:
1. Linksys E3200, last update of firmware for German (was bought using German Amazon) country. (Cannot check it now, if needed will check)
2. Computer: Windows XP SP3
